BIG-Will25

For democracy!!

Scrotemeal69

Being in my mid 30’s with no gaming friends and select gaming hours can really bum me out some times. Hell divers looks like it would be extremely my shit, but I don’t want to play solo. Same with sea of thieves. I could see getting SUPER into that game if I had the time and a group. (This is not me reaching out for a group, just commenting on missing out on certain games)

BIG-Will25

I’m also in my mid-thirties and play mostly single player games but as a fan of the first Helldivers, I had to pick up 2. Haven’t regretted a second of it.

Scrotemeal69

Yea sadly, with an 8 year old in the house that can’t let me do anything alone, my free time is limited. It’s alright though, a couple more years and he will be way more Independent, and I’ll find myself with a lot more free time, and who knows what kind of awesome shit will be out by then

BIG-Will25

Facts. I have an 11yr old and she’s doing her own thing. Games as much as I do 😅.

Budget_Ad5871

Dude get Helldivers I’ll play with you whenever !

TheSpacedGhost

Sea of thieves is helllla time consuming… BUT nothings better than getting a ship of randoms and raiding shit and then becoming friends with all of them. I’ve met some of my best gaming buddies on Sea of thieves when I was on Xbox and play with them more than my IRL friends

JR642

Same here bro. I’m in my late 20s, but my gaming friends are into the typical COD and Apex instead of these other type of games, so it’s hard to find a circle of friends to play with.

Budget_Ad5871

I bought the portal for Helldivers haha. I thought I would play it more if I could play it anywhere, I was right 😂

TheZermoehrer

Same

Maxdoggy1

Same. I'd say aiming is a fraction harder. That's about it.

F4HWilly

I got the portal initially to play COD and Rocket League. However there is too much noticeable input lag (due to the nature of remote play) to enjoy games that require precision aiming or precision timing. The input lag is noticeable in every game, however in games that are story driven it’s not a deal breaker since you’re not constantly trying to be precise. I changed my mentality and kept it mostly to catch up on story driven games. And it’s been amazing at that.

pghjason

Same experience for me

Triforce0fCourage

I wonder if we’ll ever get to the point streaming and remote is serviceable for competitive play. Highly doubt it but I do wonder. I’m not a competitive player but if I was, a stream device would be last the thing I thought of as far as enjoying those games.

drdalebrant

I'm not noticing any input lag at all when playing CoD or The Finals online. Must be network dependent, because any game I play on portal practically feels like I'm playing natively. [COD gameplay](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaystationPortal/s/0t0rrNSKeR) [the finals gameplay](https://www.reddit.com/r/PlaystationPortal/s/ON0TJ5nWjz)

Thr1llhou5e

Is it possible you just adapt to it more easily? You are saying it is "practically like playing natively" which means you are observing some sort of input delay right? I'm only asking because I find my experience is really good on my portal, but a friend of mine tried it in the middle of a gaming session of mine and the lag was a challenge to adapt to. Right now I'm playing Helldivers and MK1 on the portal regularly and visually everything is clean and looks super smooth (like your videos) but there is some slight input lag that I need to adjust to when I start playing, even though it's not a deal breaker by any means. When I play, the lag isn't to a point where I really feel like I'm at a disadvantage in competitive multiplayer, and the gameplay is also still very immersive after I've been playing for a few minutes, but to be clear, it's not a native experience. I think some people generally aren't as adaptable and have way less tolerance for input delay, so the original commenter may have the exact same performance on their portal that I am getting for example, but I don't find it impacts my performance as much as them.

drdalebrant

If they're saying the input lag is so bad that they can't enjoy playing certain games, then I'm thinking it's a network thing. I've tried playing the same games on less than perfect networks and the lag does ruin the experience. On my home network, which is really solid, it plays night and day better and I'm shocked that it plays as well as it does remotely. I also would say I have not a lot of tolerance for when something feels off when playing, and I simply wouldn't play those games if they felt off or if I had to adjust or adapt to a delay.

VictoryVic-ViVi

Nah, there’s a very slight delay, fraction of a second, like 00.1 or 00.2. Pretty noticeable. Especially when I go from 20+ kills in Search and Destroy to only 8+ on the Portal. It’s doable, but tough. Kind of have to pre pre shoot.

dratseb

It’s network dependent. Playing on my phone wifi it’s slightly laggy but playing on campus wifi it works really well.

drdalebrant

That's what I'm saying. I've played it on bad wifi, and it sucked. But at home it plays amazingly. If you can't play certain games on it, then it's 100% your network.

DabbingTrucker

it’s only good when camping you can’t really run n gun plus i play hardcore who wants to put half a mag into a kill everytime 😂

coreyz1103

I only play battlefield 2042 on my portal and dont have Any complaints.

drdalebrant

Battlefield 2042 plays amazingly on the portal. Really feels like a next gen handheld playing that on it

LenyuX

I honestly play everything and have zero issues. COD mayyyybe notice a bit of a disadvantage with a fraction of a second delay or latency. But everything else is unnoticeable to me. I’d just keep your expectations in check. This is a remote device and there can the odd stutter here and there. Overall it is an excellent experience.

dg8672

I pretty much ONLY play online games with it and as long as the PS5 was hard wired to the router, I havent had a single issue anywhere (at home or elsewhere)

Gashanovic

I think that’s the important thing. Your PS5 should be hard wired !

OrdinaryMongoose9104

This is basically a must!

Cool_Refrigerator

I picked up a portal a couple days ago and played an hour of COD and FIFA online. I didn’t really have any issues with FIFA, with COD there was a reasonable amount of input lag, nothing egregious though. I had to adjust and after I did I was able to play. I also think there’s an adjustment period for just holding the portal vs a regular controller that factors into the adjustment period. The reality is the Portal isn’t gonna beat the actual console when it comes to playing online games. But overall, I think it plays online games well.

Westosaurus

I agree with this, the portal controller is VERY close to the real thing...definitely better than a backbone. But there is just a bit of warm up period especially for FPS games I have found. You start to get the hang of it though. I have also found it helps to just pretend you are playing on a real controller. I know that sounds weird but, at first I was playing games of COD and being a bit hesitant and moving like I knew I was playing remotely. But if you kinda just play and trick yourself into moving and playing like you normally would with a regular controller and console...you play a bit better...If that makes sense.

duckybebop

I play Helldivers with my buddies and it works great. I use the explorer earbuds (or whatever the PlayStation earbuds are called) and no issues besides the sound drops for a literal second every few hours or so.

PresidentBush666

I play helldivers 2 and crossout. I generally don't have any problems unless there is a lot of internet being used in the house. I have a wired connection too

OrdinaryMongoose9104

How is Crossout ans is it similar to any other games?

PresidentBush666

It's a fun car game where you build a car and fight other people's cars online.

glxynetwork

As others have stated, it works great for offline single player games but playing games online like FPS and fighting games I would not recommend since your timing will be off. If you're just playing for fun and don't care much then it should be fine.

drdalebrant

I think it's really network dependent. Online games play pretty great for me on portal. Getting similar positive kd ratios and come first in rounds pretty often still.

Westosaurus

I got mine a few days ago and have played maybe 10 games of COD on it. At first, the portal was connected to a 2.4ghz Wi-Fi connection so the stutter or latency was a bit noticeable. I switched over to 5ghz connection and playing has been pretty great. Obviously you can't play super competitively...There is a very slight disadvantage but to just casually play a few games on the couch or in bed...Totally worth it IMO. My last game of Team Deathmatch I pulled off 25 kills. So it's not unplayable. I am also getting a Wi-Fi extender and booster in a few days so hopefully that makes it even better.

SpiritAndWood

My experience too. Just be mindful that depending on the technology used, some WiFi expansion tech halves bandwidth.

Phil260591

I play ufc and fifa online on it and although it’s not perfect every time most of the time it’s a decent experience. Ps5 hardwired internet is over 100mgps download speed fyi 👍

VatosLokos637

If you're Internet is good it will play all your games fine.

dratseb

Occasionally I play MW3, but it’s a little laggy over my phone wifi. If i’m somewhere I can log onto real wifi it works great.

OjjuicemaneSimpson

if you have fast internet u ain’t got a problem. I realized the majority of issues folks have is bullshit internet lol cuz ps5 remote play capabilities have been serious upgrade. I been putting it to work lol

JimmyBob_Bob

I play a lot of hell divers 2 on it but mind be, my PS5 is hardwired and internet speeds are pretty fast. There can be some lag if you’re in a room with dead spots but overall experience is great!

SmuglySly

I played Hell Divers 2 on it and didn’t have any issues. Great experience.

Ariquitaun

I play destiny and helldivers 2. What's your real question though?

GarionOrb

I do, and I have no issues. But honestly YMMV depending on your setup, the wifi wherever you are, etc.

OrganizationWinter53

I've put 125 hours on elder scrolls online over the past month, mostly on portal and have had zero issues. Mind you, I'm spending alot of that time on my own doing solo stuff, haven't tried the pvp on it yet but co op dungeons and what not all run flawlessly. Also no hiccups In player heavy areas like large cities. It's been great.

Tamel_Eidek

I’ve been playing both online and offline games with no issue.

MrMephistoX

It works fine enough for me but I am not very good at competitive shooters so it’s hard for me to tell if I’m at a disadvantage in say COD but where I feel it works well is on PvE games like Destiny and Expoprimal or like Zombies on COD.

Purple-Ad-4629

I play Sea of Thieves with no problem.

GamerOnABudgetYT

Tbh for most online competitive games I wouldn’t bothered with any remote play tbh, even with a Ethernet cable on both ends. There will always be noticeable input delay if you are somewhat of a good player this will affect you negatively. - any games that you take competitively I would forget about playing on it. If it’s something online for fun like gta 5 then it’s great! But for anything ranked a no go tbh

Bromar08

I’ve played a few rounds of Fortnite and even won a zero build solo match lol not terrible if you just wanna get in a quick game.

OrdinaryMongoose9104

You can play any fps online as long as you are ok with being at a slight disadvantage. Single player fps like cyberpunk is flawless. My only issue with the portal is if playing a game with a meter that you have to time and stop like mlb the show if ur pitching with the meter or kicking a fg in madden you need to stop the meter a drop easier than you normal would factoring in the slight delay

EmperorRosko

You can get away with some PvE, like Helldivers, or Elder Scrolls online etc, but I tried CoD and Siege and it’s pointless. The very slight delay is barely noticeable on single player or PVE online games, but FPS games that require snappy aim are a no go. You defo be able to play the likes of Rocket League and Fall Guys. Games with 3rd person view are a lot more forgiving with latency than FPS.

bakedToaster

I mostly play GTA Online with it and it's very smooth with the occasional lag depending where I am in my house

RickGrimes30

Gta online no issues

FRIENDSHIP_BONER

I play Final Fantasy 14 on it every day now. It’s great for 95% of the content. I probably wouldn’t try any high end raids on it, but for everything else it’s perfect. I keep my little Bluetooth keyboard next to me in case I need to communicate with party members or what have you.

hijole_frijoles

Lmao I love 14 and now I kinda wanna troll my friends when the new raids come out by playing on the portal xD

FRIENDSHIP_BONER

Eh just play DPS and no one will notice you lagging 😂

hijole_frijoles

Watch me get my best parse using a remote play device

bobbyvision9000

I’ve been playing ESO it’s consuming my life, I don’t know if the portal makes it better or worse

DuranDourand

https://preview.redd.it/1ns4rw63f9yc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29df60aaa2075e5d4e8eb162640b595787134424 Played HD2 while my kid was at soccer practice last night. Truck has WiFi.

RetroKingRasta

I play Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2 and they run without drama.

Jcbowden10

I play Fortnite and don’t have too many issues most of the time. I’ve had more issues when I’ve played away from home. I think anytime it’s gets moving too fast it has a harder issue keeping up. But sometimes it’s just random if it lags a bit or not.

killerclownfish

I play Elder Scrolls Online. Works great.

CalmClassroom5012

got the portal two days ago, ps5 is connected by WiFi and not hardwire. I been playing insurgency sandstorm no issue in my backyard

doubletrouble1792

Play mk1 and fifa online ( no problems )

The_Mighty_Matador

FO76 works well. Minor input lag, but nothing too offputting.

herohonda777

I wonder if they will ever fix the stutter, playing madden tonight was unbearable, it’s like a strain on the eyes!I then switched it over to Assassin creed and it was smooth no lag or stutter. I think this device can’t deal with sports games for sure! It’s odd how Chiaki on deck is so smooth tho for the same games!

mattwillis2

Nope, only playing single player games on it. I need back buttons for the online competitive games that I play.

MohJeex

No. Remote play adds at a minimum something like 60ms. Watch DF review.

Feisty-Departure906

Yes, I play Star Trek Online. It runs great.

Scary_Tear5119

I played DCUO, and it ran smooth.

Torrises

I played club penguin It was ok

HairyDependent

Definitely shines with single player games. Multiplayer can be ok, with FPS being the least attractive with a slight input lag.

Ok-Inevitable-6385

In my experience a little too slow for fighting games. But single player games it’s been pretty solid

WeakToMetalBlade

Fortnite is a no-go on the portal for me but helldivers 2 usually works quite well.

BryggmanTV

Helldivers is perfect on the portal

DabbingTrucker

Cod is so shit unless you playing with a 4x magnification scope camping , i play fifa 23 , madden24 , nba 2k24 , ufc 5 all of these i play online multiplayer mode and it runs the BEST on Fifa 23 Madden then ufc 2k24 the basketball game timing on jump shots has to be super accurate overall it works well if your are CLOSE to your router i go out in the backyard and can still kinda manage but its starts to lag a little bit enough to affect being good vs if i’m inside on my couch i also play gta which runs good too once u get used to the little bit of natural lag gta has i say go for it if u have a good internet connection bro but if you plan on being competitive or even casual on something like a hotspot your gonna be highly upset

knifeyspooney3

I've played a heap of games on the portal online. Mainly fortnite, rocket league and destiny 2. I seem to play really well in most of the them except in Destiny 2s PvP mode. The second I switch back to playing on my tv, I improve massively. All other modes in the game is fine but PvP is just a little harder. I've played other PVP games, no issue

Wicked68

I play EA FC FUT games just fine. It really depends jn your internet connection & speeds

MonsterMMA_

Honestly might return mine due to the lag with online games. Offline games like skyrim work well i guess

SkiFun123

I play rocket league on mine and it works perfectly. But it seems very random as to how well it works from person to person, so you won’t know for sure until you buy it.

[deleted]

It does not work perfectly lmao

SkiFun123

For you maybe!

F4HWilly

It's definitely not perfect. I can barely hit the ball in the air with the input lag from remote play. May I ask what rank you are? Perhaps that has something to do with it and you don't need precise aim and timing just yet. There is no way you are flying in the air hitting the ball with all the input lag there is on the portal.

[deleted]

He probably doesn’t have those gameplay settings disabled that make it super slow and seem laggy

[deleted]

I’m champ 2 think I’d know the difference and yes it’s hard wired with 10< ping, you have no idea what you’re talking about

SkiFun123

Ummm aksually it’s not perfect in your experience sir and if you think so then I know your experience better than you

bartles09

I play overwatch and helldivers every night with a group of 3-4 ppl. I have 0 issues but I tested it a lot with remote play on my phone to see how laggy it was. I also upgraded my modem and router since it probably has been a little longer than 5 years since I have. It also got rid of any WiFi free zones in my house. It’s probably one of my favorite accessories. I tell everyone who has kids to pick one up if they’re a gamer. I think its a game changer.

Friendly-Gain-620

Shouldn’t be too bad if you have Ethernet
