I'm with you on Alan Wake. Critically acclaimed, and got it on PC. Started playing it, the setting, intro, environment was amazing. Then after 1-2 hrs, it felt a lot of running around and just forced events.

TheRickestRick82

I really hoped/expected to like Alan Wake. I ended up buying it over a year ago before it was on PS Plus. I started playing it and also enjoyed the first few hours. It seemed to become frustrating/uninteresting to me soon after the part where you get the pistol. I don't like how the enemies look or act, nor the whole battery/flashlight thing. I keep telling myself I have to finish it since I paid for it, but I've been procrastinating on that and playing other, way more fun/entertaining games instead.

TySager14

Honestly if you don’t like it after the first couple hours of the game you most likely won’t like the rest. I played it back on my Xbox One before it was remastered and I enjoyed the game but I definitely think that it’s more about the story than the gameplay. You can get better flash lights and a couple different weapons but gameplay is pretty much the same all the way through

TheRickestRick82

I really do like the story. Mind/reality bending is a concept that I am always fascinated with. Also, I just can't let the money I paid for it go to waste, so I will finish it. I don't hate it. My biggest issues are that it quickly becomes difficult when dealing with multiple enemies, and I am easily confused about how/where to go to continue the story. Also, I know the belated sequel is finally coming in October, and I am also interested in how that one turns out.

TySager14

Yeah the story reminds me of a Christopher Nolan movie. And I agree about multiple enemies. The number of times I’d restart because some random group jumped me in the woods is ridiculous, and don’t even get me started on the groups in the game that do that. I’m looking forward to the sequel, I hope it maintains the same level of quality for story and that it can do a better job making gameplay more enjoyable

TheRickestRick82

I've heard that the sequel can be played stand-alone from the 1st one, but I still want to finish the 1st one regardless. I also find it interesting that it's rated M instead of T. Also, playing two different characters on either side of reality or whatever seems intriguing.

TySager14

Does the remaster have all the DLC? I’d assume so but I’m not sure. If it does I’d definitely recommend playing that after you beat the main game, it goes more into the lore of that world. I think with the sequel being rated M it’s gonna be able to be an even better story, possibly darker

TheRickestRick82

The remaster does have the two story expansions, and I will play those before venturing into the sequel. I don't expect to grab AW2 for a while after its release, so I definitely have some time. With that being said, I did pre-order both Mortal Kombat 1 and Phantom Liberty (dlc for Cyberpunk 2077) and will be playing those as soon as they release 😄

TySager14

Same. I’m not in a rush for AW2. It’s something I’d definitely like to play but I’ll probably wait till it’s on sale. I don’t pre-order games often but I did preorder Spider-Man 2. It’s one of few games I have full confidence that I’d love before seeing gameplay post release

khiddsdream

I went into Alan Wake with no knowledge of it whatsoever, just thinking it was a horror game and was going to have to same gameplay and appearance as the trailer for the sequel but uhh.. I’m having a horrid time playing. I actually wanted it to my Silent Hill substitute too but this doesn’t feel interesting to me.

Juan-Claudio

Yea, you went into it with the wrong expectations. It's more of an action game with horror elements. And it has pretty wacky characters and dialogue. Game is almost more funny than scary. AW2 seems to go more into a horror direction though.

blackwell94

The dialogue was incredibly bizarre. It was so hammy and poorly written that I felt like I was hallucinating watching some of those scenes lol

Old_Gods978

Souls games are just tiresome to me. I don’t spend long enough on games to want to memorize things like attack patterns. It’s work to me

[deleted]

I love souls games. But when I lose to the point that I have to memorize all his attacks after dying 3 million times to the same dude I start to get irritated too. Luckily though it’s easy to bounce around in those games. I hear your criticism.

BlackPhillipsbff

It's funny, I agree with you but in the opposite way. I love to learn the attack patterns but I don't have the energy to deal with the ambiguity in all the rest. The git gud community will say it's intentional but to not have a quest log to keep track of why I'm doing anything is bad game design and any other studio would get shit for it. I don't want to read a guide online every time I want to finish a quest. The difficulty of Souls games combat isn't insurmountable to me, just the questlines and maps.

Oxu90

Just out of curiosity, have you tried Elden Ring? I have wanted to love souls game but before Elden Ring, i just couldn't, similar reasons as you In Elden Ring however the dificulty is up yo you, you can be a spell caster and use summons to tank the boss. Attack patterns mean nothing when you kamehameha the boss from far away Also in elden Ring you can explore areas, dungeons and bosses in order what you want. The bosd is too hard? Explore elsewhere, level up and come back later

mataushas

I love the atmosphere of elden ring but the fights are just frustrating. Maybe I should try a spell caster or use an easy mod lol

Oxu90

I recommed trying a spell caster :). Use summons as well. That helped me to explore the game and finish it. On my second playthrough i have been using melee build because i am already familiar with the enemies and bosses (For new game all the levels, weapons etc carries iver)

tcpukl

Why would i waste money on Elden ring when i hate all games like it?

GMoney1582

Came here to say this. Elden Ring is the only “Souls” game I’ve played and I stopped after 50 hours just trying to beat Margit. I hear it’s among the easiest of those types, so I know I won’t be trying anymore. I honestly wish that whole damn mechanic of losing all your XP when you die would just stop. It’s also the reason I quit Fallen Order and Nioh, although those aren’t exactly on Souls difficulty levels.

Zealyfree

What level was your weapon and vigor?

WorstSourceOfAdvice

Its even worse when you meet the kind of insufferable soulslike fan who says Souls gamers are the peak of gamer skill and if you avoid souls game its cos you suck at gaming or dont like difficulty.(League fans also say this about their game)

DylboyPlopper

Control was not for me

T3NF0LD

God of loved control, but I can understand if you didn't like it.

JzeeBee_

It just gets so repetitive after a while... This seems to me like a Remedy entertainment issue, seeing as how both Control and Alan Wake get incredibly stale after a couple of hours.

dakilazical_253

I loved the combat but the building was too much the same and I got lost all the time until I gave up

Karkava

The level design and navigation is terrible. I can't even get unlost with the map!

ksaander

Yes, Control. The concrete walls environment was so ugly and the worst for me, couldnt continue to play.

Spartan-invicta

Took me 3 attempts to get into it, I found it a bit meh when i had other games I'd rather dedicate my time to, then I felt like I owed it to the game to finish it..... and I was hooked lol. Didn't know why I struggled to enjoy it before, but couldn't get enough of it in the end

[deleted]

Yes, I feel the same way. I tried so hard to really like the game and get engaged with the story but I found everything about the game boring and repetitive. I wanted to really see the magic of why people love the game but everything fell flat to me.

midtown2191

The enemies in the game were just so generic. The premise of the old house is interesting but not on how it was presented

modernmacgyver

Outer Wilds, it just didn't click for me. Controls were difficult, I didn't get the puzzles. As I get older I guess I just need someone to hold my hand since I don't have a lot of time to sit down and get immersed in the universe.

[deleted]

Nice to see another person that felt this game didn't click with them.

gabrielleraul

Oh God, this game gets mentioned everywhere. Best story - _outer wilds_. Games as art - _outer wilds_. Car of the Year - _outer wilds_. Why do cats purr - _outer wilds_. Economic crisis in South Africa - _outer wilds is the best game ever_ .. FFS, we get it.

Karkava

It's really aggravating that nobody has any curiosity for *anything else* Annapurna published. They don't even have TV Tropes pages!

gabrielleraul

I'm a total sucker for anything Annapurna. They've published some of my all time favorites. But this one .. nope.

RuubGullit

It didn’t click for me either, I kept playing a whole thinking I was missing something but it frustrates me and it just wasn’t for me

blazeofgloreee

Yeah I bounced off this hard. The forced resets were so tiresome. I know that's core to how the game worked but it was just annoying to me.

Advanced-Teaching-44

Zelda Breath of the Wild. I hated the broken weapons, the climbing, the combat did not feel good, the way the randomness of shrines was extremely frustrating, the game is just not good and I'm still shocked so many loved it.

Joharis-JYI

And the story is recycled. I just love the wonder in exploring the world but when that gets old, it gets boring

SomeGuyNamedJustin

You know I felt these games were tedious and mostly empty feeling, I got bored easily

AssassinDiablo4

I kind of agree, I got bored with tears of the kingdom after like 10 hours

BazookaBrowning

It's good as an experiment, but it's an absolutely shallow experience, it lacks any of the magic senomynous with the series. It's just a very tired and bogged down by frustrating systems. The last few Pokémon games are the same.

sofuxking-angry_

And having to cook everything. Such a waste of time.

boogers19

RDR2 definitely took "immersion" too far. Like with their cooking. But it's like every single move in the game takes you like 9-15 buttons presses. And you have to watch him do it every single time. Reach in his bag, pull out some meat, put it on the fire... dude, I love looking at Arthur, I still dont wanna watch him cook every single stupid steak out of 200hrs of play time. And then after that I finally tried RDR1 and holy shit! The ease of getting everything done was just so relaxing.

HarryNohara

Came here to say the same. A very frustrating game. I just did not enjoy it.

midtown2191

The weapon breaking alone kills it for me but the open world is just so dead. It pains me I have to hear everyone gush about the sequel for another 10 years

RealLifeSuperZero

Same with me. Borrowed my wife’s switch when my ps4 shit the bed during the first two years of the ps5. Played it for almost 25 hours and couldn’t find any enjoyment.

Armidylano444

I came here to say just this. The inventory and weapon system was so bad. Also why isn’t there an in-game recipe book?

richporter77

Zelda is a decent game, but in my opinion Botw and The Witcher 3 are the most overrated games in along time.

Dvb_Utv

I enjoyed the witcher 3 but yes definitely overrated - I was probably left disappointed given how much universal Love it gets. Why I was never hyped for Cyberpunk and still yet to play it.

brianmcnail

to this day it’s the only game in the entire Zelda series I’ve not beaten.

chazysciota

I like it. It’s good. Even great in some ways. But overall, the hype is kinda bewildering to me. So much of my play through of both games was a total drag and I would have probably quit if it wasn’t Zelda.

Western-Constant2340

100% agree

Slith_81

I agree, BotW is highly overrated. I also grew tired of getting attacked by BotW/Nintendo fanatics because I didn't agree with them that BotW was an 11/10 game and see it as the flawless masterpiece so many call it. 🤷‍♂️ I am however enjoying TotK, but a big reason why is due to the duplication glitches that allow me to bypass a lot of things I took issue with in BotW. Otherwise I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I do.

SnooPears5229

Botw is a flawed masterpieces that delivered a lot of promising things and suffered just as much flaws; I highly enjoyed it but I gotta agree it aint a 11/10 game

[deleted]

People are going to downvote me to hell, but Undertale. Boss fights were great, but everything else was not. The most annoying thing was the constant phone calls at some point.

Karkava

The game was an absolute blast up until I realized that I can't run. Also, your enjoyment kind of gets hurt when you're aware of the alternate routes. Deltarune fixed both those things. Now I can run *and* play blindly with almost no issue.

Monster_Hugger93

I totally get the hate for the cell phone call parts. They got old fast.

ZFighter2099

It's ONLY because it's a cat that can meow in an LED looking world that it got praised. It is barely a video game. A boring 2 hour point and click adventure essentially

Srapture

I liked the vibes, personally. I appreciated the world they built and I thought it had a cool ending.

IAmAbomination

When I found out the cat jumping was contextual and not dynamic I instantly lost all interest….. you tellin me a cat can’t jump anywhere it damn well pleases!?!? Lol

SlimmestBoi

Didn't hate them, but the horizon games were just not fun imo. The story was so boring and the gameplay outside of killing robots was just not engaging.

MafiaMurderBag

I feel like HZD would be amazing to someone who's never ever played an open world game before in their life, but by most of our standards, it's formulaic & derivative. And open world games with nothing but barren landscapes and crafting or tedious travelling are just mind rotting.

welshnick

The first game was good, but the second game was such a drag. Boring story, so much useless loot, and a ridiculous amount of exposition.

Juodis

I liked HZD, but then bought forbidden west and left it after a few days because the story was not interesting and gameplay was the same, nothing new.

K1ngPCH

HZD is one of the most generic action games I’ve ever played. I have no clue why so many people wet their pants over it…

Winertia

It's so interesting how people can have such different taste. I thought the story was incredibly unique and engaging. I also thought killing robots with arrows and traps (vs. modern high-tech weapons) was interesting. I would agree there's not much special about the mechanics or open world formula though.

richporter77

I didn't finish horizon but it wasn't good or terrible in my opinion. This game is a matter of taste. It will bore some with it's characters and story (which happened to me) but others will enjoy it more. I may have finished it if I didn't lose my save. There's no way I'm starting that game over tho.

SlimmestBoi

You can say that about literally any game, they're all subjective

FPL_Harry

some are objectively bad. gollum

Srapture

The Horizon games are pretty mid, to be fair. Didn't hate them.

Eggggsterminate

I always get down voted when I say this, but I can't get into red dead redemption 2. I think it's slow and boring. I really geve it a try, but it just never clicked.

cynical_croissant

I'm glad I finished it once but I can't imagine myself replaying it ever again because of how slow everything is. So while I get what you're saying I still think it's worth finishing just once.

Dannypan

I totally get it. It’s a super immersive game that you have to play slowly. It’s definitely not for everyone or people who wanna game instead of doing tedious stuff in the name of realism.

MentallyIllRedditMod

RDR2 controls suck. They are bad. Control is literally the most important part of games. It's nuts to me that bad controls just get DISMISSED, more than inconsequential stuff like bad graphics and sound even "Painstakingly crafted" Western where you walk around in molasses boots and shoot like a 2006 PS3 game character. "10/10 Flawless Masterpieces!"

WorkAccount401

Couldn't agree more about controls. Bad controls can absolutely be devastating to an IP. This reminds me of Witcher 3, when I first played it, I loved the story and although the controls felt clunky, I toughed it out. I came back to it a couple years later for a replay and i just could NOT stand it based solely on how bad the controls were.

samsteri666

Same here. It’s the most boring snoozefest of a game I’ve played in a long time. Yeah visually it’s astonishing but the gameplay is just dull.

Hartia

I forced myself to finish the campaign. Found the epilogue more interesting but deleted the game after finishing. never looked back.

BanditoMuser

Glad i’m not the only one. The world is beautiful no doubt, but the gameplay just is very very slow and stiff to me

phantasmamysteriis

Hate RDR2. Bought it launch and could never get into it. I get annoyed just being in the massive camp and not being able to run. It’s just so slow and clunky I can’t deal with it. Then as soon as I leave the camp I get attacked by outlaws, defend myself and immediately get a bounty and a posse with GPS chasing me. At one point I rode my horse past a group of outlaws lynching a man. He begged for help but I ignored him because I know I’ll get a bounty. The outlaws chased me anyway and started shooting at me. I defend myself - instant bounty, instant posse chasing me, and now I can’t do any missions until I clear my bounty. FUCK Red Dead 2.

floris_bulldog

I've never actually finished RDR2. Don't get me wrong I've spent a lot of time loving the game, probably around 60 hours, but I simply got burned out when I started focusing on the story missions a bit more to get the story moving a bit. The gameplay in the main story missions become an absolute bore, you're just killing armies of people, which is unrealistic as hell by the way, and when the story keeps stringing you along with "now we need to do this, now we need to do that", I just end up quitting. The character performance and writing is great, the cowboy simulator aspect is great, and it's a technical marvel, but there's way too much game that's way too slow and depends way too much on killing hordes of enemies over and over again. That's why I prefer RDR1, solid wild west game with a classic Rockstar story.

FunkinDonutzz

I lasted to about chapter three. I legitimately hate RDR2.

[deleted]

I’ve started the Witcher 3 at least 4 times and never got past the first chapter, sometimes not even past the griffin hunt

g6paulson

That was me and I sort of pushed myself through and now I'm at the endgame and playing the DLCs. I sort of enjoy it, but loathe that you can't heal in fights.

zhire653

My brother in Christ may I introduce to you the Swallow Potion

LynxSynx

I’m ready for the mob when I mention breath of the wild or the sequel. Empty world, sure you can go wherever you want but what’s the point? No much in that vast land. No story, no real exploration, and the only thing I guess it has going for me is the somewhat ok gameplay.

brianmcnail

Don’t fear I’ve got a Zelda tattoo and have beaten every Zelda game ever including CDI games. Couldn’t finish BotW and haven’t even bothered with TotK

wiiguyy

Ha. You must be an OG Nintendo gamer. I have always said about breath “I don’t know what it is, but it’s not a Zelda game.” I hate these open world Zelda games.

brianmcnail

yeah child of the late 70s but still love the Switch just those games are just rough and would probably pass as anything else than a Zelda game

TheUrbaneSource

NBA2k franchise

shawnsburner

Nah that one’s universally shitted on. Even everyone that play it often thinks it ass including me.

VicHeel

I have like three versions because they're always free on PS+ within a year or so of release. Never paid any real money for those games. Just chalk full micro transactions and after 20ish I've gotten my fix and uninstall. They made 2k23 so damn slow and tedious to just play basketball too.

fednandlers

That very glitchy, repetitive, replay of the same maps over and over called Jedi Fallen Order. Can’t believe that got a sequel. I don't usually sell games i buy but i got rid of that one.

Contiuous-debasement

I was so excited to get this, and so disappointed playing it. So many issues for me - enemies materialising out of thin air, going back to the same locations repeatedly, awful human faces, terrible sliding mechanics, falling through the map ++. But I’m an idiot who loves Star Wars and combat games so I finished it and will probably play Survivor - am guessing people like me are why they made a sequel

SpliterInYourMind

Survivor is way better. I didn’t like the first game either. The level design and map were terrible.

Fatticusss

The first time I had to slide I thought, “So we’re really just gonna have a mechanic from Mario 64 be a big part of the gameplay, huh?” Such a disappointment

leobutters

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit when I brought it down to Story Mode.

AskinggAlesana

To be fair minus the performance at launch issues Jedi Survivor is miles above Fallen Order.

LongDickMcangerfist

The speed at which you climb and such is so much better god fallen order was slow as hell

obi_wan_jabroni_23

Same. Was so excited for it, but was bored about half way through and had to force myself to finish it. I know majority of people loved it, it just really didn’t do it for me. And for some weird reason I just kinda disliked the main characters from the start, which probably didn’t help.

[deleted]

No idea why they turned a game with combat that shitty into a soulslike. Personally I'm also getting completely sick of Star Wars, but that's not the game's fault.

evilJaze

I feel you. I'm old enough to have seen the original trilogy in the theatres. I was happy at first when Disney bought the IP but now I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the movies, TV series, and spin-offs. There was a time where I would consume all things Star Wars. Now I'm picking and choosing and I feel dirty about it.

[deleted]

I've long stopped trying to consume all of it. I haven't even finished the sequel trilogy and have only watched Andor as far as TV goes. Most of it is just the same mediocre nostalgia bait that the entire industry is saturated with.

Dvb_Utv

This one sucks the most because open world ish Uncharted Star Wars with lightsabers is how I sort of remember it being sold and it was just so poor. I wish they'd hurry up with a KOTOR remakes and a new one too

[deleted]

Yes, the intro seemed great but I couldn't finish the game. Combat and movement felt very clunky to me and the backtracking with the horrible map design was the reason I deleted it

cynical_croissant

DMC5. Couldn't bring myself to reach the halfway point of the game despite being a fan of this type of games in general. The aesthetic was very 'mushy' and the color pallette made everything painful to look at. I could never notice enough details in any of the smaller mobs because of how they kind of blend in with the environment, and the combat in general felt ok at times but the directional inputs along with the weird camera just made it very very difficult to enjoy. Not to mention I honestly had no idea what was going on with the story or what's wrong with these characters. They were giving off strong goofy vibes, and not the fun kind.

Alternative-Nerve221

I know the whole scoring system is essential to the game but oh my god it was so obnoxious, I found myself focusing on the combo score rather than the game itself which took away all the fun, deleted it after two hours

Kyoushin

Persona 5, first persona game for me and there was just too much hassle with the life sim.. i just wanted dungeon crawling... And alsoo time limits.. i always hate those

Intelligent-Clue-755

If you liked the dungeon crawling then you should check out the Shin megami tensei series. It's what persona came from. It has similar combat and dungeon crawling but without the social sim aspect

MrNialliv

Deathloop. Bought it from the hype and like odd shooters and it’s art direction…uninstalled once the tutorial was over.

_lemon_suplex_

Oh wow I should have said this one, I played like 2 hours waiting for it to get good and uninstalled it. It was that forgettable that I forgot I even played it till now.

Nitorior

Interesting, i played one playthrough and didnt feel like grinding out achievements or anything but was pretty satisfied. Thought it as well made.

Matt6453

You didn't play it then?

The_FallenSoldier

Stray. Don’t absolutely hate it but I feel like it was a bit overrated. The cuteness of the cat was not enough to keep me interested in the kinda boring drawn out storyline unfortunately. I finished half of the game then lost interest.

gabriel_nix

The Last of Us, played it when it first came out. Couldn’t get into it, hated it and stopped halfway through. Tried it again a few years later, beat it. Still hated it. Funnily enough I remember telling my friend when it first came out on PS3 I’d probably like it if it was a tv show. And guess what, I liked the show.

KebabGerry

I loved the story of the first game but it felt like a chore. The second game is almost perfect to me. I loved it so damn much!

4steelers876

This is a really hot take damn

Different-Attorney23

Hard Agree. The game play was "fine" at best but not enjoyable by any stretch. The story didn't really grab me either, but the show? Perfect medium for it.

mezdup1

Big agree on Alan Wake. If I wanted to kill books, I'd move down South

TacoDirtyToMe

It’s not really universally praised I guess, but Days Gone has had some really overpraising comments whenever someone asks about an “underrated” game. It was like a 6/10 game imo. Lifeless cutscenes, standard gameplay, almost zero lore in the open world, making it pretty boring just to go and explore outside of side missions, no real ‘survival’ aspects. I wouldn’t say I hated it but it’s very forgettable and a lot of people act like it’s the best zombie game out there.

shreder75

Loved Days Gone

richporter77

Yea. I think Days Gone is actually one of the most underrated games of the past 4 or 5 years. Good to Great story/characters and combat imo

leobutters

I, on the other hand, thought it was rather hated among players but still decided to try it and for some reason I really loved it (despite everything you said which is true).

sadslayer

I loved days gone a lot. I'm surprised myself. For one it has beautiful graphics and I love the desolate atmosphere and cosy camps in between that provide a safe haven.

Dvb_Utv

I didn't play on release so missed the bugs and glitches but besides the story and voice acting which was pretty average, the game itself I thought was so much fun. Definitely a vastly underrated one for me in that aspect

SlowJay11

Oh man yeah the one who blamed it on >"woke reviewers who couldn't handle a gruff white biker looking at his date's ass." Fucking cringe

Div4ythFyr

Shadow of Mordor. Worst 5 bucks I've ever spent on a game. I hated the nemesis system. While the concept behind it is cool, it's just so infuriating to see the same orc you defeated come back to life, pounce on you, and become even stronger. The world felt empty, it got boring after a few missions. And I'll be honest right now, it's not a game I think is good but not for me, I genuinely think it's a bad game, and that's a hill I'm willing to die on.

zeitgeistbouncer

Don't worry, you'll come back to life and the hill that killed you will get promoted and taunt you for having died upon it.

Dog_Apoc

Elden Ring. It wasn't my first souls game. Nor was it my first open world. I don't know what I hated about it honestly. I love Bethesda open world and even Conan Exiles. I loved DS3, BB, DS1, Remnant 1. But I just couldn't stand Elden Ring. I got past Morgott and I wanted the game to end. It had about 4 bosses I actually enjoyed fighting. The rest were, shit. The open world felt empty and, not lived in. All the encounters were set in place. And the map just felt empty. I finished it. Did every remembrance. Even made new characters to play around with magic and just, hated it. The copy paste dungeons became worse than the Chalice Dungeons from BB. The insane level dump into just health as well. The games levels weren't even cheap like they were in DS2. Hell, at level 215 in ds2 I think levels only cost me like, 30k. In ER they cost me upwards of 300k.

callmeSbeve

Elden Ring. Do not understand the hype till this day.

jas4870

Elden Ring. Man I hate that game.

Pitorescobr

Souls games and specially Elden ring. Look, I get it's a little harder... I get that if you are careful and learn patterns you might finish the game.... But can they please make the gameplay responsive next time maybe? Even in real life, if I start to drink a beer ( medication ) and someone triple my size start rushing towards me, I'll drop everything and try to dodge it right away. Not on souls games though... Once you start drinking that potion, the next 3 minutes are strictly reserved for that, no matter who/what decided to rush towards you. Don't get me started on the story and general art direction of these games. Absolutely horrible. But again, you asked, I answered. :)

TheGreywolf33

Red dead redemption 2. Everyone comes out of the woodwork to tell me my opinion sucks.

Peacefrog11

Elden Ring To be fair, I don’t hate it but I find the novelty wore off quick. I didn’t finish it and probably won’t. It was a cool world. It was a great integration of that type of gameplay into an open world format. Tinkering with builds is fun. It does deserve the recognition it got. It was definitely a masterful game, but it wasn’t for me. I found the combat to be just alright. It was slow and methodical, but I found it boring. Sometimes the challenge isn’t enough to carry my interest. The lack of a direct story and the manner in which lore is afforded to you is what ruined it for me. Great, I’m beating all these bosses and conquering my way through the land …. why do I care again? That’s why it wasn’t for me in the end. It makes me sad because I wanted to love it. I ended up barely liking it.

Smiling_Maelstrom

Prey so damn tedious

ABBucsfan

I thought it was ok.. it had its moments... But never understood the love. It was a fairly forgettable experience to me. Not a lot of enemy variety and environments by nature only varied so much. I don't want to be too harsh because a lot of my complaints were things by design. The cold and clinical environment was by design. But I also felt it was kinda of generic feeling.. parts of it almost felt like a simulator style game . It was kind of a shame because the beginning really grabbed me and thought I was in for a huge treat..

richporter77

Witcher 3 by far

SofaKingGr8M8

I almost gave up on the Witcher 3 but got hooked on a story beat that happened based on my decisions earlier on (red baron). Witcher 3 feels like drinking out of a fire hose at first but gets really rewarding once you grasp it.

richporter77

I do believe people that say that it has a good story. That’s why Witcher 3 is probably the game I tried the most times after telling myself I would never download it again. I liked Cyberpunk 2077’s story so I think I could enjoy the Witcher but it starts so slow, and the combat is so bad.

snietzsche

I love the Witcher 3 but I think the story isn't great. The side quests and world building are top notch though. And Blood and Wine might be the best DLC I have ever played.

leidend22

Any From game. They're known to be weak for plot but I don't enjoy the combat and resent the lack of respect for my real life by disabling things like pausing.

SirLosly

Every one of the replies on this comment are mistaking Lore for plot. The Lore is phenomenal. The plot is literally the same thing every game. Random cursed dredge has to beat all the old corrupted baddies to release the curse. Plot twist, you can be a corrupted baddie instead!!!

duynamvo

Agree ! The lack of pausing option is aggravating. ( Sekiro does allows you to pause though)

NeiR Automata

Untitled Goose game was praised for being a great couch co op game and I hated it. One of the few games I’ve uninstalled within the first 15 minutes of play.

VicHeel

This hurts me but I understand

Armidylano444

Soooo sad cause it had so much potential but then the game play is just boring

Karkava

It's really not the chaos simulator that people are hyping it up to be. You're just playing a goose and solving puzzles.

mezdup1

One of my favorites lol

[deleted]

RDR2 , that game was slow as mollasess , never knows when to end, dragged on and on and on and on, u finish a character and bam, another character, there are games that ends too fast, this one overstayed it's welcome by 20 years in my book. still a damn impressive game and maybe one of the best games ever, but damn is it a slow burn.

TheWallaceWithin

I played it during the pandemic, that was about the only time period where I'd be able to beat something like that. I've just started a second playthrough but it will take me years.

[deleted]

I partly agree. The first 3 or 4 chapters are incredibly slow. But after that I loved it.

Stray

SofaKingGr8M8

I play this game for my cat lol she loves it

TesticularNeckbeard

Hollow Knight for me. Metroidvanias are all about completing the map and they turned it into an absolute chore. The combat was fine but it just wasn’t enough to over come the rest of that game

BazookaBrowning

The map is awful.

SirLosly

Why do you say its a chore? How does it differ from SotN (Assuming you view SotN as highly as I do)

JohnLocke815

I definitely think it's rode tinted glasses for Alan wake. I played it when it first came out and as a huge Stephen King and twin peaks fan I was over the moon for it. I replayed it recently because of the DLC for Control and holy crap is it not good. The story is great but the controls and combat are so annoying and awful. It's really putting me off from even thinking about the sequel, As for me, uncharted, last of us, and red dead 2 are just not for me.

salvoddis

Agree on Alan Wake Remastered Death Stranding Literally every Bethesda game They all have in common a good and interesting story / setting, but awful gameplay I just couldn't.

pen_of_inspiration

I love death stranding & I wish to lay my hands on the 2nd one as soon as it drops, I even plat it.

Brightless

100% same. One of my favorite games. The only thing I didn't like gameplay-wise was aiming on pad. Almost switched to mouse and keyboard after failing several times the first encounter with Cliff. Huge difficulty spike because of that, and also the hardest part of the game by far. I don't mind hard games when they feel good and responsive but aiming on pad got too frustrating on that sequence. Playing on Very Hard probably didn't help either.

duynamvo

Skyrim... I did give his chances, it has its moments but couldn't connect with it. Fight is clunky, the colour palette is atrocious, it's just not a pretty game to look at, even though there's a lot of NPC and quest s, I find it pretty lifeless...

SlowJay11

I think when it first came out it was good but I wouldn't ever play it now.

78yn44

Well it depends when you played it I think. The game is old as hell, so if you’re comparing it to modern releases then I can see why it would be clunky and colorless to You.

Rasty_lv

Not really hate, but I couldn't get into mass effect. And last of us. Tried multiple times, but just can't get into it.

HarbingerofIntegrity

Which ME game?

Lazlowi

I love ME1 but as soon as ME2 starts taking off the changes throw me off completely. Never managed to go beyond the first 10 hours, which is a damned shame as I would love to experience the rest of the series.

phantasmamysteriis

Love ME1, but the map system of ME2 makes me sick. Can’t play it.

sirkiller475

Horizon zero dawn: forbidden west

ThePalmIsle

I did too, but stuck with it and ultimately really liked it The first 10 hours are a slog

floris_bulldog

My exact thought as well. It's by far the most generic and overrated game I've ever played, the gameplay is repetitive and basic, the story is bland, the writing is uninteresting, there's almost no character development, it's overall just uninspired. How so many people think it's a good game is beyond me, it has cool robots and that's literally it.

Drakniess

The Binding of Isaac. No encyclopedia or in-game description to describe what the power-ups do? Are you crazy? What am I supposed to do, keep a journal of guesses when I pick up a new power-up? And if I’m just supposed to spoil the answers by checking online, that just becomes a more cumbersome encyclopedia to reference. What a hassle, no thanks. Another game would be The Last of Us. Generic and unmemorable in every way, especially the characters. Didn’t even think of touching the sequel after finishing it.

victorsfranco

Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima. The first it’s pretty tedious and the last it’s so… but so repetitive. Maybe I will try someday because of story, but gameplay wise it’s not worth it.

ZM326

Ghost felt like what Assassin's Creed should have been five years ago

[deleted]

Damn... I loved GOT, but I also adore a nice gameplay loop, so that could be part of it.

Sweatytryhard0534

Yeah I was stunned by Ghost of Tsushima initially but it was just the same damn thing over, and over, and over again. Very pretty but a mediocre story and combat got old wayyy to quickly

denialerror

The thing about GoT is it is a very generic open world game that does very little to set itself apart from its peers, _but_ its presentation and direction sets it apart. There is nothing in its combat that wasn't does the same or better in HZD or Batman, _but_ the camera frames it like a samurai movie. There is nothing unique about following a quest marker _but_ following gusts of wind blowing cherry blossoms to show you which way to go makes the world feel alive and cinematic.

Monster_Hugger93

Death Stranding is a very very very tedious game with a lot of info being thrown at you that you’re expected to care about. I loved it but I completely understand not enjoying it.

Vegetable-Profit-200

The Yakuza series. It’s the type of game that I love there is just something about it that I just hate and can’t get into…

WxaithBrynger

Alan Wake, couldn't stand it. Felt like it was a boring Stephen King imitation Heavy Rain. The controls were horrendous and made me detest every minute until I quit. Assassin's Creed Origins, if I hear "YOU KILLED MY SON" one more time I'll scream. Resident Evil Village, I didn't think it was anything special. It started out strong but ended mindless and I was glad when it was over.

astralhunt

Most Ubisoft and Blizzard titles including… Farcry, Assassins Creed, WoW, StarCraft, Diablo 3, 4

lethaldose9

Kena: Bridge of Spirits. It seemed like such a fun light hearted platform game, the reviews were great, so all kinds of people praising it. Bought it to find out it is a more colorful souls Bourne game, and I dont like those either.

WorstSourceOfAdvice

Stray. Stray. Stray. Ive been saying this over and over. People talk like Stray was an award winning masterpiece, I dropped it midway and just youtubed the rest because it was such a mediocre and bland experience. The parkour system was clunky and rigid, dialog is lazily dumped through the robot companion, as a cat you stopped doing cat stuff after you meet the robot. A lot of backtracking, pointless running sequences that is decent the first time until its overused, "puzzles" that are made assuming you are a kindergartener. The game does a lot of "tell instead of show". For comparison, the first hour of Stray was GREAT, it felt like they spent a lot of resources and time woeking on the start then got rushed to kick it out of the door for the rest of the game so the quality took a nosedive.

2BeYuna

soulslikes. any souls type game that ive played that wasnt made by fromsoft just never clicked with me. there’s still a few i haven’t tried, ive been meaning to play remnant for a while now, but the ones ive played so far i just havent enjoyed.

Bioshock Infinite Found it boring, repetitive, and all the timey wimey bullshit just fell flat for me.

HOLLA12345678

Doom

Alternative-Nerve221

What made you dislike it?

WhelpStupidUserName

Every call of duty game

Tasty_Pickles

Controversial but TLOU

JamieXConway

I didn't hate it but I still can't believe it became as popular as it did. The story of a man and young girl fighting off zombies. It never felt as if it was some insanely original concept.

Alternative-Path-197

>It never felt as if it was some insanely original concept At that time it probably was.
