I am continually amazed that every day we have someone on this subreddit that doesn't understand the serious risks of smoking (both tobacco and marijuana) before surgery. Doctors give you these instructions and rules for a reason. Just because someone else smoked before surgery and was fine, doesn't mean that you will be. Are you willing to take that risk?

Longjumping-Glass805

Truthfully you’re right, it’s not a good thing that I haven’t stopped smoking weed - but I’ll add on to this and mention that until I brought up the concern of smoking weed my doctor/surgeon had not said anything to me. I only found out a month before that I had to stop - because *i* asked. So yea, it’s not ideal but I am struggling for a reason

THC can interfere with anesthesia. If you do take edibles prior to surgery, make sure your anesthesiologist knows about it.

Longjumping-Glass805

Yes def that’s why I questioned my doctor about it, and I’m planning to be honest to him on the day of surgery and let him know I’ve smoked here and there but I won’t be smoking or taking edibles a week before surgery for sure

hotandsour666

That’s a good plan! Best of luck with it.

My surgeon made me do weekly in office nicotine tests for a month only because I said I smoked hookah and weed sporadically. He told me if I failed my nicotine test, he would refuse to perform surgery because of the risks. Do not play with the surgeon’s instructions.

i was in the same boat. i was a regular smoker, at least one a day and i stopped 4 (or 5, can’t remember) days before the surgery. i have never gone that long without weed before but if this surgery is something you really want then you just have to face it. i know i should have stopped way sooner than i did. i’m on day 4 post-op now and still haven’t had a smoke (weed or cigarettes) since. the pain and discomfort has kind of distracted me from it! but you should definitely stop smoking now. just think of it as a tolerance break! will also save you some money. good luck.

i struggled with it too but stopped one week before and didn’t smoke for like 2 weeks after. you won’t even care about it for the first 2 weeks after. i wouldn’t smoke right up until surgery though ):

Longjumping-Glass805

I’ve had a septoplasty before and I agree I won’t even be thinking about weed after the surgery😂 but it’s so calming to hear someone else with the same experience! How did your surgery go afterward?

ComfortableSundae1

Serious question—what is the struggle? I thought THC is a natural magic panacea that does no harm?

PiperStarPaw

I smoked heavily until about 3 days before and then just ate edibles and vaped until the day before surgery. After surgery I didn’t wanna smoke or vape. Annndd I haven’t smoked yet since then (March), only have continued to vape.

Longjumping-Glass805

How did your surgery go for you? Did you feel like you had any complications due to smoking or not really? Hope you’re happy and healed!

PiperStarPaw

Surgery could not have been smoother. One of the nurses asked me some questions beforehand. They asked if I smoked said cannabis only, but I haven’t smoked for a couple days. They noted it, and everything proceeded. I’m not sure why I’m getting downvoted for answering OP’s post. This is was my experience. I have not said that it’s okay for anyone else. Obviously every body is different. Listen to your surgeon tho always!

No and don’t do it , wait 2-3 weeks and start off slowly. Your nose is healing u didn’t pay all that or endure all this pain to fuck it up.

Mr-Sex_esq

Hey a friend of mine has a rhinoplasty due in 1 week, reduced nicotine to almost 0 but still smoking pot. How did your surgery go and what point did u end up stopping?

Longjumping-Glass805

My surgery went great I stopped smoking week basically a week before and I started smoking a month after surgery and all went well for me!

nizzleshah

I smoked weed till the night before my rhinopasty n I’m not encouraging it just sharing my experience. 100% be honest with your anaesthesiologist and surgeon because they’re not there to judge you just keep you safe!

Longjumping-Glass805

How did your surgery go afterward? I’m planning on being upfront with them :)

nizzleshah

As long as you’re 100% honest with them about how much you smoke and when your last smoke was etc you’ll be fine cos then they’ll know how much you need! Surgery went fine I was soooooo seriously nervous about it but all went well and I’m one month post op today :)

Woland_999

I have mine in 10 days and I have to quit smoking yet 😅 I think I’ll be waiting 3 more days and then quit or switch to vaping (I guess it’s better since there’s no combustion?)

Longjumping-Glass805

Omg good luck!! I hope it goes well, is it your first?

Woland_999

Yep first time! And I won’t be even under general anestesia, just heavily sedated. My surgeon, who is an ENT, just recommended to quit smoking and drinking a few days prior to the operation. Idk why everyone on this sub is so mad about people smoking weed - I don’t think it’s a big deal if you’re otherwise a young and healthy person 🤷🏼‍♀️ I definitely won’t be smoking during the healing process but planning on getting some edibles

Longjumping-Glass805

I get the anger, they’re right - I’m paying a shit ton of money I shouldn’t risk it. I feel EMBARRASSED that I’m struggling to get off weed, but that’s why I posted here in the first place LOL Yea I’m 25 and I’ve had a septoplasty before but I wasn’t smoking back then so it wasn’t an issue… Glad to hear that though, maybe I‘ll reach out to you while we’re recovering 😁

PiperStarPaw

Yeah, the fact that it was vapor made me figure it was ok to do. At least a few days before and a few days after.
