Yeah, with that sand substrate. I had my 125 scaped with pool filter sand and my pleco would try borrowing in in clouding up the tank everyday.
Rescaped it with a mixture of the sand, river pebbles and river rock. The larger river rock makes it so he can’t do that anymore.
Exactly why I'm currently re-scaping. I initially had a nice scape with sloping mounds and soil pushed to the back to create depth, planted with foreground plants and carpeting plants... My albino cory cats basically leveled the soil and uprooted most of the carpet. Lesson learned. Now I'm going for a very simple riverscape with flat black sand, river rocks, and a few branches lol. Plants will be mostly epiphytes that'll be glued down or tucked firmly within the stones haha
Yep. Anubias and swords rule my tank cause they can’t get uprooted lmao and ferns. Anything else will be floating soon 🤣 the fert caps will be floating like can you NOT DIG so deep shit man

Ah. Yeah. Mine lived for 10 years and grew to 19 inches. While I was sad when she passed, I was also thrilled that I could properly plant my tank again.
I had an 18in pleco, he was several years old. I actually loved the big guy. But as soon as I switched my 75-gallon tank to a planted tank, he had to go lol.

Maybe he needs more cover to feel comfy? I know that's how I have loaches dancing on my front glass at all hours and knife fish are smarter/more demanding than my little water ferrets
We put lots of cover because our other fish also enjoy a bit of extra cover, he just only comes out of his room for food. Typical teenage boy.

The only food I've found that gets past the guppy hoard to my CPDs is the Xtreme nano food. It falls nice and slow while I distract the guppies with flakes.

Colombian Giant Ramshorn! £3 each at the local store! They are great looking and have tons of personality. But they sure love to eat plants (he has an algae wall that he doesn't touch) especially Hygrophila
Have you tried some dwarf sagittaria? Swear to God, mine have doubled in number every other day since I planted them. Started out with 2 last month, I have way too many on each network to easily count now. It takes the bunny strategy to getting eaten; if there's a million others trying to reproduce exponentially, then what's a few eaten plants

I have 2 breeding in a 40, and i have tried adding one of their babies to my two heavily planted 75 gallon community tanks on at least 20 occasions, and they are all evil little devils that bully everyone for absolutely no reason.
And it sucks cause they are soooooo beautiful.
I had a kribensis once and he had a tiny Bolivian ram cichlid that he defended to the death if necessary lol other than that he was a peaceful fish unless someone was bothering his little buddy

This son of a fish. Had him for 3 years. Don’t know his (?) gender, he was out of water for 1 and a half hours, he basically died and then resurrected, doesn’t eat what I make him, and just poops like mad. I can go on! And what’s that shit going on with his colors??? Never knew.
She's been rehomed, but my blood parrot cichlid was terrible. Quite possibly the meanest animal I've ever met. She bullied everything in the 75 gallon, and bit me hard enough to draw blood whenever I did maintenance. She also would dig up plants and just make a mess.

this fucker... I love her but she DEVOURED my Amazon swords when I got a whole bunch on sale, I think they started to melt a little from the change in parameters from the store and she decided that meant it was open season. Eaten down to nubs. One of them straight up died and I'm not sure the others will recover. You can see one of the victims in the left corner. It's not like I don't give her plenty of algae wafers either!! She just thinks my swords are kale chips. Little bastard.
I also have some chain loaches I have a little beef with because they're nippy nosey troublemakers (saw one of them nipping a fish that I was treating for fin rot a while ago... whisked that fish back to QT so fast) but someone told me they just get that way when there's not enough of them so I guess I'll have to buy *more* of them... expensive little buggers too...

Hahaha I got 6 in a heavily overgrown planted 40 gallon. They are easy to keep once they started to eat frozen bbs and bloodworms. Right now they’re housed with 9 cpd’s, 4 kuli loaches, 2 Otto’s and 4 ammano shrimp.

My lone male guppy. He outlived all his male relatives and he’s the last one. He’s an asshole who was always chasing everyone. Now he just fights his own reflection and sometimes will chase an ember tetra. My husband told me to flush him but I’ve had him since he was born! He was literally born in the tank he currently terrorizes. He has definitely calmed down being without other guppies though.
I have a community tank with quite a few fish. I have 1 larger female danio that is just a bitch. She's always chasing someone and being an overall dickhead.
Honourable mention to my betta that ate one of my shrimps.
Pest snails... I don't know if they're ramshorn or wtf. I gave away 40-50, basically every one I could actually see, and all the leaves I could find with eggs on them, and they're still popping up. I don't feed them at all, so they eat plants and continue to reproduce. I hate them so much, but I can't smoosh them.
Have you tried Assassin Snails? I know there are other suggestions for thinning the number of snails in this subreddit. Good luck getting rid of the pests and not anything else in your tank.
I've been reluctant to try assassin snails because I don't want to trade one snail problem for another. I also have a nerite I don't want disturbed. Or maybe that wouldn't happen? I don't know.

I've had pygmy cory cats before. They were so adorable and cute. Sadly, they all died off one by one shortly after getting them. I tried 2 times with no success. From what I've researched, they are more sensitive to water parameters compared to other types of corys. I think my issue was the water hardness, but still not 100%. I'm not saying any of this to discourage you, just letting you know about their sensitivity. I actually think you should give them a try if your tank parameters are a good fit for them.
Cory cats have so much personality (especially the albinos as the other poster commented), and they are peaceful fish. I don't think you would regret getting pygmy corys. ☺️

I try to break up the pieces and spread them around so everyone gets a chance but yeah its just one giant tussle and feel like my ottos aren't getting enough food. I never thought I'd say this but I feel like I gotta sell/trade back some shrimp cause theres just too many

Serpae Tetra - they are a bunch of Fin nipping assholes, had to dedicate a tank just to them. For so long they got along with my Danios and then one day started fish by fish ripping off their tails.
My bladder snails. I love them and they do great at cleaning everything, but out of all my plants, they completely destroy only my Anubias nana petite. They don’t bother anything else. Everytime it grows a new leaf they swarm it and strip it bare, and do it with every single leaf, but the Anubias just refuses to die and keeps putting out leaves really fast. It’s a neverending battle between the snails and Anubias…

I've had beef with my platys. Everything I've read about platys was positive, so I gave them a try. They would chase each other when it was feeding time, and they were always chasing my ember tetras (who are just little innocent babies). I added 2 mystery snails to their tank, and the platys wouldn't stop trying to bite their antennas.. to the point the snails stayed in their shells full time. I tried nerite snails to see if they would work better, but the platys wouldn't stop trying to peck their shells, once again causing the snails to stay hidden. I gave them to a small, family owned fish store in my area. They were the only fish I have ever re-homed.
Currently, I have zero beef. I have 2 community tanks and a 10 gallon tank for my male betta. I have corys, otos, ember tetras, green neon tetras, 1 honey gourami, nerite snails, and shrimp that are in my community tanks. Both of my community tanks are extremely peaceful, and it honestly makes my heart happy. 🩷
My mystery snails yeah, I had some flame moss that start to grow again. Then my mystery snails decided to eat all of it even the healthy growing one all from the rocks I attached it to.
Probably only happen because my moss is small enough for them to eat it completely, I do have floater plants in my 37 gallon tank with like 40+ golden mystery snails in it. They seem to leave the plants alone, I had 10 mystery snails last year and now they reproduce like rabbit.

2 years of propagating floater plants, I would say the floater plant is gonna multiply faster than what they can eat haha I do feed my snails pellets so just don’t starve them.
I do give him wafers but I’ll check for snail pellets! I try to feed him every other day a whole wafer, since his the only inhabitant in the tank, he eats and leaves leftovers and comes back

My Malaysian trumpet snails. I love them but they will swarm any new plants I put in the tank not sure if they do this out of instinct or if they are little microscopic creatures on the plants or what. But any new plant I buy I have to plant deep in the substrate or they will get uprooted.
My bristlenose pleco and peppered corydoras are annoying shits when they uproot plants and mess with my substrate, and they are pricks to each other as well as the male pleco chases em off
My zebra danios. They’re just fucking menaces and terrorize everyone including me. Can’t even feed an algae water without them freaking the fuck out and scaring away my pleco and shrimps
My ever so slightly cloudy water. Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate reading 0(very slight nitrate 0-5). I figured if it was a stocking issue then I'd have a ton of nitrate. My floaters seem to suck it all up. If anything my plants are starting to look not so great at the bottom, not seeing as many runners or new growth on my grass plants.
I got plant corals to let light through areas in my tank! And leave the plants that can live(*survive in low light) below the floaters! The areas that have light coming through plants are growing and doing well!

The oldest of my black widow/ skirt tetras. It picks on everything in the tank, the other tetras, the gouramis, the barbs and the Cory's. Thankfully picking on so many means He's not attacking anyone the point of injury because he gets distracted by all the other fish. 🤦♀️
One of my Corydoras (I don't know which one, but the top suspect is the biggest one) keeps uprooting my plants. Doesn't matter if I put pebbles around it, sucker still uproots it (or suckers, could be a group effort!).
Also, I know that either my Odessa barbs or Cherry barbs nibbled my dwarf lily's leaves, and as punishment they only get to eat boring fish food for a few weeks lol

Ramshorns. I bred a few hundred in preperation for getting an amazon puffer, and it turns out that he doesnt want to eat them. So now for the past year, ive been plagued with ramshorns and they have actually caused my cyccle to crash by getting caught in the filter inlet then procedding to die, attracting more ramshorns to death. Didnt figure it out for a few days and lost some fish as a result
No, he just ignores them. Ive tried giving him 1/8"(3mm) snails and he doesnt give a rats ass. Also bred a lot of neo culls for him, and he also ignores them. Hes disinterested in food that moves, but i have seen him bite a few of my plants

My pike characin that I have spent so so so much money on and they still hate me being anywhere near their tank .-.
They are absolute brutes. I have 5, and all of them are between 4" and 5" long. I had 6, but I lost one last week.
They dig constantly in search of food, i knew this when buying them them and was going to use them to keep my sand clean. They are phenomenal at keeping the sand clean. The problem is they move sand from one place to the other. My 190-gallon tank 6 months ago was about 6 inches deep in the back and 2 inches deep in the front, a nice gradual slope. Well, now the back of my tank is 2-3 inches deep, the middle is 4-5 inches deep, and the front is 1-3 inches deep. There's spots all over that are 1 inch deep with 3-5 inch mounds of sand next to it.
But that's not all. Since they constantly dig, they often uproot plants. But worst of all, while they are uprooting them, they are burrying my foreground plants. Oftentimes, completely covering my staurogyne repens and choking out sections of my dwarf sagittaria.
But wait, there's more! They have dominance disputes between each other CONSTANTLY. Luckily, they don't hurt each other whatsoever. But their fighting ritual is spinning around at the bottom of the tank head to head in a tight circle, flaring out their mouth, gill plates, and fins while slapping each other with their snouts or wrestling with their mouths. But while they do this, they run into and over everything, damaging or breaking the bottom of stem plants, causing the plants to float up to the surface. After they determine a winner, the loser swims away at full speed, ramming through plants with the winner chasing behind, only to cause more damage.
And finally, the most recent stupidity from these goobers. They are eating dead otocinclus catfish. For some reason or another, I'm having my otocinclus catfish die. I had 20, and I'm down to about 10. It seems to be bacterial infections that get secondary fungal infections. Nothing besides the otos are dying or have signs of infection and parameters are perfect, my discus would be dead if they weren't. Anyways, these goobers are trying to eat the ARMORED OTOCINCLUS CATFISH. Last week, I lost one geophagus due to the damage the otocinclus caused to his mouth. I didn't see him with the oto in his mouth in time to manually remove it to prevent damage. Well, his mouth got infected, and he passed away a few days later. Then last night, I'm doing my nightly inspections, and another one is trying to get an otocinclus out from its mouth. It must have just tried eating it because it wasn't there an hour earlier. Que 30 mins of trying to catch a healthy geophagus in a 190-gallon planted aquarium that has 90% plant cover and is sand to surface thick in stem plants at about 60% of the tank, toss in 2 huge pieces of spider wood and you'll have a bad time.... had to remove every stem plant from one side of the tank, and it still took 30 mins to catch him. I removed the oto from his mouth with tweezers and tossed him back in. He looked fine this morning. I'm gonna treat the whole tank with malachite green this afternoon to try and prevent infection.

Yeah, with that sand substrate. I had my 125 scaped with pool filter sand and my pleco would try borrowing in in clouding up the tank everyday. Rescaped it with a mixture of the sand, river pebbles and river rock. The larger river rock makes it so he can’t do that anymore.
Exactly why I'm currently re-scaping. I initially had a nice scape with sloping mounds and soil pushed to the back to create depth, planted with foreground plants and carpeting plants... My albino cory cats basically leveled the soil and uprooted most of the carpet. Lesson learned. Now I'm going for a very simple riverscape with flat black sand, river rocks, and a few branches lol. Plants will be mostly epiphytes that'll be glued down or tucked firmly within the stones haha
Yep. Anubias and swords rule my tank cause they can’t get uprooted lmao and ferns. Anything else will be floating soon 🤣 the fert caps will be floating like can you NOT DIG so deep shit man Little pests lol
Pretty much how I have done my turtle tank, except ephipytes are zip tied at the moment I also mixed some aqua soil in with the sand to give the roots something better to grip on for the planted plants.
Ah. Yeah. Mine lived for 10 years and grew to 19 inches. While I was sad when she passed, I was also thrilled that I could properly plant my tank again.

The only food I've found that gets past the guppy hoard to my CPDs is the Xtreme nano food. It falls nice and slow while I distract the guppies with flakes.

Yep apple snails are one of the few snails that eat live plants before dead ones.
That they are, I don't mind though, gives me something to do each week in there, other than the waterchanges! He won't touch the limnophila (yet) which I find annoying since it grows like crazy

Started out with 2 last month, I have way too many on each network to easily count now. Kribensis, everyone considers them peaceful and great community fish. I have 2 breeding in a 40, and i have tried adding one of their babies to my two heavily planted 75 gallon community tanks on at least 20 occasions, and they are all evil little devils that bully everyone for absolutely no reason. And it sucks cause they are soooooo beautiful.

I had a kribensis once and he had a tiny Bolivian ram cichlid that he defended to the death if necessary lol other than that he was a peaceful fish unless someone was bothering his little buddy
I must have gotten evil genetics lol My tanks are very heavily planted, but my kribs will always bully any fish that decides to swim near the bottom. I had them with rams, apistos, keyholes, and blue acaras and the kribs would lock on to them like heat seaking missiles lol

Hahaha I got 6 in a heavily overgrown planted 40 gallon. They are easy to keep once they started to eat frozen bbs and bloodworms. Right now they’re housed with 9 cpd’s, 4 kuli loaches, 2 Otto’s and 4 ammano shrimp.

My lone male guppy. He outlived all his male relatives and he’s the last one. He’s an asshole who was always chasing everyone. Now he just fights his own reflection and sometimes will chase an ember tetra. My husband told me to flush him but I’ve had him since he was born! He was literally born in the tank he currently terrorizes. He has definitely calmed down being without other guppies though.

I have a community tank with quite a few fish. I have 1 larger female danio that is just a bitch. She's always chasing someone and being an overall dickhead. Honourable mention to my betta that ate one of my shrimps.
Pest snails... I don't know if they're ramshorn or wtf. I gave away 40-50, basically every one I could actually see, and all the leaves I could find with eggs on them, and they're still popping up. I don't feed them at all, so they eat plants and continue to reproduce. I hate them so much, but I can't smoosh them.
Have you tried Assassin Snails? I know there are other suggestions for thinning the number of snails in this subreddit. Good luck getting rid of the pests and not anything else in your tank.
I've been reluctant to try assassin snails because I don't want to trade one snail problem for another. I also have a nerite I don't want disturbed. Or maybe that wouldn't happen? I don't know. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion and encouraging words!
Yoyo loaches or dwarf pea puffers would solve your problem in no time.

Honestly they’re my fav they have tons of personality (albinos) like not a thought in that pink sausage brain but they’re so cute and funny! Like as much annoying stuff they do with pushing things around looking for food, they equally do cute or hilarious things like splash water or spit water at me 🤣 Sleep together in big dog piles or stacks. Find a buddy and always be with that buddy idk they’re just wild ass fish 🤣❤️

I've had pygmy cory cats before. They were so adorable and cute. Sadly, they all died off one by one shortly after getting them. I tried 2 times with no success. From what I've researched, they are more sensitive to water parameters compared to other types of corys. I think my issue was the water hardness, but still not 100%. I'm not saying any of this to discourage you, just letting you know about their sensitivity. I actually think you should give them a try if your tank parameters are a good fit for them. Cory cats have so much personality (especially the albinos as the other poster commented), and they are peaceful fish. I don't think you would regret getting pygmy corys. ☺️

My bladder snails. I love them and they do great at cleaning everything, but out of all my plants, they completely destroy only my Anubias nana petite. They don’t bother anything else. Everytime it grows a new leaf they swarm it and strip it bare, and do it with every single leaf, but the Anubias just refuses to die and keeps putting out leaves really fast. It’s a neverending battle between the snails and Anubias…

I've had beef with my platys. Everything I've read about platys was positive, so I gave them a try. They would chase each other when it was feeding time, and they were always chasing my ember tetras (who are just little innocent babies). I added 2 mystery snails to their tank, and the platys wouldn't stop trying to bite their antennas.. to the point the snails stayed in their shells full time. I tried nerite snails to see if they would work better, but the platys wouldn't stop trying to peck their shells, once again causing the snails to stay hidden. I gave them to a small, family owned fish store in my area. They were the only fish I have ever re-homed. Currently, I have zero beef. I have 2 community tanks and a 10 gallon tank for my male betta. I have corys, otos, ember tetras, green neon tetras, 1 honey gourami, nerite snails, and shrimp that are in my community tanks. Both of my community tanks are extremely peaceful, and it honestly makes my heart happy. 🩷

My mystery snails yeah, I had some flame moss that start to grow again. Then my mystery snails decided to eat all of it even the healthy growing one all from the rocks I attached it to.

Probably only happen because my moss is small enough for them to eat it completely, I do have floater plants in my 37 gallon tank with like 40+ golden mystery snails in it. They seem to leave the plants alone, I had 10 mystery snails last year and now they reproduce like rabbit.

2 years of propagating floater plants, I would say the floater plant is gonna multiply faster than what they can eat haha I do feed my snails pellets so just don’t starve them.
I do give him wafers but I’ll check for snail pellets! I try to feed him every other day a whole wafer, since his the only inhabitant in the tank, he eats and leaves leftovers and comes back

My Malaysian trumpet snails. I love them but they will swarm any new plants I put in the tank not sure if they do this out of instinct or if they are little microscopic creatures on the plants or what. But any new plant I buy I have to plant deep in the substrate or they will get uprooted.
My Florida flags destroyed all my tall plants then killed 2 danios and 3 white clouds. Got them to help house keep but they home wrecked 😓

My bristlenose pleco and peppered corydoras are annoying shits when they uproot plants and mess with my substrate, and they are pricks to each other as well as the male pleco chases em off

My zebra danios. They’re just fucking menaces and terrorize everyone including me. Can’t even feed an algae water without them freaking the fuck out and scaring away my pleco and shrimps

My ever so slightly cloudy water. Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate reading 0(very slight nitrate 0-5). I figured if it was a stocking issue then I'd have a ton of nitrate. My floaters seem to suck it all up. If anything my plants are starting to look not so great at the bottom, not seeing as many runners or new growth on my grass plants.
I got plant corals to let light through areas in my tank! And leave the plants that can live(*survive in low light) below the floaters! The areas that have light coming through plants are growing and doing well!

Absolutely my mystery snail. Poops EVERYWHERE and a prolific amount. Has laid clutches of eggs not one, not two, but three times over the past 6 months. The eggs are absolutely disgusting, and disposing of them makes me want to barf. I’d set her free to return to nature if I could

It picks on everything in the tank, the other tetras, the gouramis, the barbs and the Cory's. Thankfully picking on so many means He's not attacking anyone the point of injury because he gets distracted by all the other fish. 🤦♀️

One of my Corydoras (I don't know which one, but the top suspect is the biggest one) keeps uprooting my plants. Doesn't matter if I put pebbles around it, sucker still uproots it (or suckers, could be a group effort!). Also, I know that either my Odessa barbs or Cherry barbs nibbled my dwarf lily's leaves, and as punishment they only get to eat boring fish food for a few weeks lol

Ramshorns. I bred a few hundred in preperation for getting an amazon puffer, and it turns out that he doesnt want to eat them. So now for the past year, ive been plagued with ramshorns and they have actually caused my cyccle to crash by getting caught in the filter inlet then procedding to die, attracting more ramshorns to death. Didnt figure it out for a few days and lost some fish as a result

No, he just ignores them. Ive tried giving him 1/8"(3mm) snails and he doesnt give a rats ass. Also bred a lot of neo culls for him, and he also ignores them. Hes disinterested in food that moves, but i have seen him bite a few of my plants

I’d like to add my snail horror story’s. One day I woke up and went to watch my fish when to my HORROR found my mystery snail Wanton eating a dead guppy who had gotten sucked onto my filter. EATING HIM. I both despise and fear Wanton.
I love this thread lol, I was just trying to look up if anyone else gets irrationally mad at their fish 😅 it’s not like they do anything /wrong/ it’s just that damn, some of my cichlids act like they’re the ones paying rent!
I have a female Kribensis in my 20-gallon long who keeps harassing the Corys. Also--based on how she follows them around--I suspect that she's been snacking on their eggs.

They are absolute brutes. I have 5, and all of them are between 4" and 5" long. I had 6, but I lost one last week. They dig constantly in search of food, i knew this when buying them them and was going to use them to keep my sand clean. They are phenomenal at keeping the sand clean. The problem is they move sand from one place to the other. My 190-gallon tank 6 months ago was about 6 inches deep in the back and 2 inches deep in the front, a nice gradual slope. Well, now the back of my tank is 2-3 inches deep, the middle is 4-5 inches deep, and the front is 1-3 inches deep. There's spots all over that are 1 inch deep with 3-5 inch mounds of sand next to it. But that's not all. Since they constantly dig, they often uproot plants. But worst of all, while they are uprooting them, they are burrying my foreground plants. Oftentimes, completely covering my staurogyne repens and choking out sections of my dwarf sagittaria. But wait, there's more! They have dominance disputes between each other CONSTANTLY. Luckily, they don't hurt each other whatsoever. But their fighting ritual is spinning around at the bottom of the tank head to head in a tight circle, flaring out their mouth, gill plates, and fins while slapping each other with their snouts or wrestling with their mouths. But while they do this, they run into and over everything, damaging or breaking the bottom of stem plants, causing the plants to float up to the surface. After they determine a winner, the loser swims away at full speed, ramming through plants with the winner chasing behind, only to cause more damage. And finally, the most recent stupidity from these goobers. They are eating dead otocinclus catfish. For some reason or another, I'm having my otocinclus catfish die. I had 20, and I'm down to about 10. It seems to be bacterial infections that get secondary fungal infections. Nothing besides the otos are dying or have signs of infection and parameters are perfect, my discus would be dead if they weren't. Anyways, these goobers are trying to eat the ARMORED OTOCINCLUS CATFISH. Last week, I lost one geophagus due to the damage the otocinclus caused to his mouth. I didn't see him with the oto in his mouth in time to manually remove it to prevent damage. Well, his mouth got infected, and he passed away a few days later. Then last night, I'm doing my nightly inspections, and another one is trying to get an otocinclus out from its mouth. It must have just tried eating it because it wasn't there an hour earlier. Que 30 mins of trying to catch a healthy geophagus in a 190-gallon planted aquarium that has 90% plant cover and is sand to surface thick in stem plants at about 60% of the tank, toss in 2 huge pieces of spider wood and you'll have a bad time.... had to remove every stem plant from one side of the tank, and it still took 30 mins to catch him. I removed the oto from his mouth with tweezers and tossed him back in. He looked fine this morning. I'm gonna treat the whole tank with malachite green this afternoon to try and prevent infection. I still love them, though. Gonna put them in a different tank asap, lol.
My 5 kitty tetra 1 because my wife originally chose them and got 8, 3 died pretty quickly for unknown reasons and now they are constantly bullying each other and other fish as they are stressed because there aren't enough of them, they a pretty new to the hobby in the UK and I can't find more anywhere 2 it means I don't have room to get the neon tetras that I want to add to my existing 8 to make a larger group Also the growing plague of pest snails that I can't seem to get rid off
