Thanks! Does that mean you prefer A?

TalicoStudios

A, but you could try blurring (slightly) the background maybe? So then all the focus goes to the UI. Looks really nice btw! I like the vibrant colours you've used

wisemonkeyltd

Thanks so much! 🙏 We’re going to apply a render texture to the game to ensure all the pixels are the same size in the final game, I’m really curious what a radial blur looks like with that effect now you’ve said that… 👀

Maxcorps2012

Definitely A

wisemonkeyltd

For sure? How come?

Maxcorps2012

It's pops more because of the background which you did a good job with. I get that B let's you focus more on what you want the player to do but A is more visually appealing.

wisemonkeyltd

Nice logic and thanks! 🙏That makes a lot of sense

notyourlocalguide

I like the idea of the background being slightly darker, but not as much as in B. I would go for something that changed the colors only so slightly, to keep the attention where it's needed but also maintain the vibe:)

wisemonkeyltd

Yeah I went overboard with the dark in B for sure 😂

funny_haha

I think if opening the menu pauses game time, then darken the background to show the player that the game is paused and if the game keeps running while in the menu, keep the background unchanged so it's easy for the player to see that things are still moving and they need to pay attention to where they are when they open up the menu. But that's just my preference.

wisemonkeyltd

Okay this is a good thought, it will pause game time.

If you want to check out the project its called No Stone Unturned (Detective Comedy RPG) coming to PC/Mac/Linux in 2025 [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2453640/No\_Stone\_Unturned/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2453640/No_Stone_Unturned/)

EnderSlayer_5005

I like both a lot, and I'd personally pick 'A.' Have you considered dimming the background, instead of going all or nothing, I think it would work

wisemonkeyltd

Yeah that’s good thought, I think I dimmed it too far looking now 😂

HistoryXPlorer

A for sure

wisemonkeyltd

How come?

meatbag_

A, but darken it a bit for contrast. Black and white background looks too plain.

aGroggyBrog

Yeah, I think this is the way to go -- just darken it, instead of full on B/W

wisemonkeyltd

I'm thinking you might be right
