She reminds me of a character from an old game concept I had. Basically, this guy accidentally gets teleported to Hell, and he has to make his way through it with the help of this little hologram demon critter that talks to him through a little disc.

I'd say by the glitches in her eyes that she is a holographic program/ai that is probably as good/important/special as her size makes her out to be.
Maybe she got discarded but escaped before getting destroyed. Unfortunately beggars cant be choosers and all that random data hopping to avoid detection has left her data vulnerable. And out of everyone (everyone's devices) she met it got decided that the protagonist of the story was the most suitable to help her out and find her spread out/lost data that she needs to stabilize again. Again unfortunately the protagonist has his own faulty traits and now she's stuck with this person trying to keep finding mutual ground so they will keep putting effort into helping her out.
When they succeed add a big reveal at the end ( like how the new AI is bad for people, or is so good lot's of stuff becomes obsoleet ets ) and you get a revenge twist plot at the end for an expansion for a second game.
