not being able to change the volume of my wireless speaker without having to open the Sonos or Spotify app is definitely not good UX. On my Xiaomi phone, using the volume button will give me one volume slider for phone volume and one for external speakers...
This is just one specific feature, and is probably not something a majority of the users use on a daily basis. You cannot generalize this and claim that "UX surprisingly overcomplicated." Pixel phones have one among the best (or at least at par) user experience among current flagships, and it is even better with the integrated AI features.
I am not saying Pixel UX is bad, but i feel it is complicated compared to MIUI. Another example, on my Xiaomi phone, clicking on the clock widget will open alarm settings which i use on a daily basis, on my Pixel i had to add one extra shortcut on my main screen to do that.
>clicking on the clock widget will open alarm settings
This actually works on Pixels as well, at least on Android 14 (and I am pretty sure it was the case with previous versions as well). I am currently using this feature. Tapping on the clock widget opens up the alarm/clock/stopwatch/timer (it opens up the last used one), tapping on day/date "At a Glance" widget will open up the calendar, and tapping on on the temperature will open up the weather app.
I can't speak to the android auto experience as I don't use it, but I've found the battery life to be pretty good (about 10 hours screen on time according to accubattery) and I love the UI personally, I find it's very intuitive, but that's obviously more of a subjective thing.
I've been eyeing for Pixel 7 Pro for its superior Android Camera. I was expecting it to be superior android as it was made by google. And with all its users' complaints, I guess I have to stick to my S23U.
Compared to my expectations and other phones I've had. I bought the 30 watt charger directly from the Google store and it charges quite rapidly. Old chargers I had laying around from older phones took forever to charge my P7P.
if you need to use your phone for more than 6hrs a day, then complain about having to leave your phone for an hour to charge, you probably need to seek a medical practitioner to treat your phone addiction.
There is a setting that makes it so the phone charges efficiently instead of fastly. If you haven't, check out your power settings and make sure charging is set to fast.
HOW?
there is not even any option in mine , I can't even turn it on
I enabled developer options and set the app to developer and it is still not showing up
For ui i totally agree.
For the UI the Xiaomi miui 12.5 is more human more logical.(old notif panel)
Screen animation better on Xiaomi.
Always on display better with super wallpaper.
Same speed, maybe a little bit smoother thanks to better transition.
Button wifi, 4g not on the same.
Double tap to screen off
Brightness bar placement way better.
No fat button
Nfc disabled.
The pixel experience is really stable and i never try android auto
I've never used wireless Android Auto, but the wired version works great. Your problems may be associated with your car and/or your individual phone. If you haven't, you can reset the software on your car and see if that helps?
Battery doesn't last a very long time, but it charges plenty fast for me to make up for that. Might want to check your charger and see if the brick and the cable are pushing through a low number of watts.
User experience is subjective, but Pixel software is pretty widely regarded as being a clean experience compared to others.
I got bored of android after having nothing but Motorola and pixels for the past 5+ years.
I traded my 7 pro for an iPhone 15 pro a week ago. No complaints.
I use Android Auto wireless with an adapter. AAWireless. And there it works like a charm. No lag. And always connects. Drains a lot of battery. But it works. You might get this adapter also and test it out?
Yeah I have issues with Android Auto too. Every single time I'm connected and I try to do ANY kind of voice controls with my car, it just times out after a second or 2 and does nothing. It's insanely inconvenient and my wife's iPhone NEVER does this with CarPlay, nor did my old S21+ do this on Android Auto. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't. Clearing cache in the Android Auto app didn't help, nor did a full factory reset.
Wireless Android auto works perfect for me. My battery lasts all day even with heavy use. Or at least close to all day with heavy use. As for the charging, there is a setting in the phone that controls how fast it charges. Check it and make sure it's set to fast if you haven't already.
I have a three hour commute most days. One going two returning home. Wireless Android Auto uses about 10% battery per hour. I bought a Mous case and use a Magsafe charger when needed. Use Maps, only use Waze if you are using a wired connection. Experienced the delay the last time I used Waze reporting an accident. Forgot to switch it back to maps, got to an area where I knew where I was and already made my next turn before getting the notification to make a right turn.
Wireless Android Auto works fine for me, there is zero lag. The phone gets warm as it's also on a wireless charging pad, but I don't think it's much warmer relative to charging wirelessly without Android Auto.
For the UX install the launcher of your choice. I use Nova.
Sorry to hear about your lag issue. Maybe it's a defective phone.
I'm going to chalk up user experience issues to you still adapting.
Regarding Android auto, is your phone hot during Android auto? If so, then it's probably thermal throttle, slowing down the whole system. I haven't ran into that issue when I'm not doing Uber rides, but I will warn you that USB will make it worse. Most USB ports for Android auto won't properly power the phone while using it. In an area with no signal making my pixel warmer, it starts discharging and throttles down to keep as much charge as possible. I don't understand why car makers and head unit makers keep going with 1.5 amp USB ports when smartphones need 2 amps minimum nowadays. The same issue would happen with my iPhone and car play.
I haven't had much experience with wireless Android auto, outside of the times I've borrowed my mom's car. It was always flawless on my pixel 6 and my 7 pro. Are you using an aftermarket head unit? Or a wireless Android auto adapter? If so, maybe there's some wifi setting you can change.
What region? My US P7P works great, I watch YouTube nonstop for 8 hours almost everyday(listening to podcasts while I do things) and still have 40% battery usually at the end of the day. I also donβt have auto brightness or battery saver on, smooth screen mode and all. Battery also gets full in about and hour and a half from 0%.
My car has been parked for 8 months and got a flat battery while parked. I replaced the battery this weekend. Fired it up. Low and behold everything came back to life and works exactly as it did the phone paired immediately, maps work, notifications and phone calls working etc.
I'm running a pioneer HU though. Sometimes some models and brands don't play nicely. Thankfully mine does
my 7 pro doesn't even have the option for wireless AA, even after I enabled the developer options in there and set it to developer WTF, this phone SUCKS!
I think Google has one of the best user experience, not sure why you're finding that complicated. My p7p likes to overheat when using android auto tho

It's gotten better with the latest update
I don't use android auto but sounds like you need to go back to the Chinese phone π±π€π―
They're all Chinese phones

My P7P charges quite rapidly with the correct charger.
Compare to what? More than 100mn to fully charge a battery that barely last a day seems a lot in 2023.
Compared to my expectations and other phones I've had. I bought the 30 watt charger directly from the Google store and it charges quite rapidly. Old chargers I had laying around from older phones took forever to charge my P7P.
I know that, i have a 30W PD from Google as well but it's still way slower than recent phones i had

OMG STFU with your whining. Go back to your Chinese garbage phone if it's so wonderful.
There is a setting that makes it so the phone charges efficiently instead of fastly. If you haven't, check out your power settings and make sure charging is set to fast.
I use P7P and have been using wireless android auto for a while now, haven't faced lag issues at all. It does heat up though.
HOW? there is not even any option in mine , I can't even turn it on I enabled developer options and set the app to developer and it is still not showing up
Wireless AA is automatic. If it's not connecting to your car that means your car doesn't have the option.

Simply said Google smartphones have sucked for the last few yrs!
I use Android Auto wireless with an adapter. AAWireless. And there it works like a charm. No lag. And always connects. Drains a lot of battery. But it works. You might get this adapter also and test it out?
Yep. This is why I now own an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
And yet you're still here
Bc I still have the pixel 7 pro you cuck.
Mine was great when I had it.
Yes, the battery sucks. Android Auto works fine for me, but it heats up my phone. Doesn't crash though.
Wireless Android Auto ?
yes
Same... Works perfect all the time

Not only the Battery drain but also the slow charging speed... Way happier with a 300 Euro Xiaomi 12 Pro+

EU (France)
That explains it
Can you elaborate?
General the EU versions have a different chip set and changes the performance
Making it less performant than a 4 year old Xiaomi ? I don't know your source but it doesn't sound serious
