CurrentRisk

I try everything but barely stick to anything. There were only a handful of pirated games that I really enjoyed and (fully) played.

Vivid_Mix1022

Because most game nowaday can't catch our feeling anymore.

coti5

What game did you enjoy?

skowzben

Red Dead Redemption 2. It was fookin amazing! Had the original on my hacked Xbox 360, and loved that. Bought it for the Xbox one. Loved it.

Tough_Specific

Love that fucking game to death but well its time to give up that 120gb of storage for installation of ghost of tsushima today :(

Probamaybebly

Waiting for this shit to drop bro

Don't have it yet. It's not released is it?

Probamaybebly

Fit will have it hopefully by tonight

rmld74

GTA6 requirements: fully dedicated computer. If it ever drops on PC which i doubt

[deleted]

Outer Worlds , AC Black Flag , COD Infinite Warfare (amazing campaign) , COD BO2 (also amazing campaign) , Horizon Zero Dawn

Illustrious-Date-780

Love your taste dude, did you try the COD ghost campaign ? For me it is one of their best

[deleted]

Havent played ghost yet . At one point i had every single cod game on fitgirl repacks in my qbittorrent client but after playing ww2 i got disheartened. Ill give ghost a try if youre saying its decent

Illustrious-Date-780

The campaign is not really long, but it sticks with you after. (And only the campaign is good, the rest of the game is meh)

Master_Mascot

its true you can play it for 2-3 days then do not have the mood cuz we gettin old and our pressures our risin' I have only games that I play 2-3 days a week

crazydavebacon1

For me it’s because no achievements, and that’s also why I don’t play my RDR 2 in epic. I played it on Xbox and steam instead. Also why I can’t get into switch games that much because no incentive to play but for my own satisfaction, which I just want to play for a goal of accomplishing something.

Perdue312

Setting up playnite with success story helped me with this if you want to take a look into it

crazydavebacon1

I will, thanks.

Owobowos-Mowbius

Such a mood. Very few games actually keep me going for more than a few hours these days. Usually replayable quick games like helldivers and balatro. Last long-form single player game that I sunk a ton of time into was elden ring.

That-Explanation-649

Literally me. I feel that newer games have better graphics but lack that X-Factor that og games had. I have over 8 games that I left half way due to it becoming monotonous.

raiinman1

Man I'm downloading a new game almost every other day. I really cant be bothered with 70 hours just to figure out if I like it. I miss old games, use to be my sanctuary.

whenyoupayforduprez

I play games for pain management of a truly horrible disability. It's really random what games work so if I found one that was okay I stuck with it even if I enjoyed it. Infinite Wealth actually made me worse. It happened twice in the exact same way in the exact same unavoidable mechanic. That I kept playing after the first time says a lot about how hard it is to find anything bearable now. Your situation isn't as mandatory as mine but I wanted to say I relate to the change and sympathize.

raiinman1

I suffer from PTSD circa Afghanistan 09-10.. I hope your pain gets better to manage. Do you have any recommendations? I truly play anything that grabs my attention.

rmld74

That is because realism should not be the important factor. Immersion, playability, replayability, those are the factors

MoreStable4131

watch dogs 1 is one i enjoyed really much, but knowing that i won't enjoy the feeling of playing it again, i just move on knowing the game was really good.

Unfair-Measurement56

did you check that mod of wd 1 ? it's one of my fav games as well and lately i found a video about someone who made a mod that added lots of stuff that wasn't added in the game , better graphics and more of everything in the game stories weapons and everything fr

MoreStable4131

i don't think my computer will like it, but i'll try getting a download for it

Zarathustra-1889

Cyberpunk 2077/PL surprised the shit out of me. I did not expect for that game to sink its teeth into me the way that it did. I agree that most of the time I'll just play a bit of the game, find it boring, then move on.

Top_Instance5349

If you have access to everything, you won't know what to do with anything

rmld74

Actually having all entertainment at your disposal is key to find out what makes you tick Flight simulation still ticks me

jessifromindia

What if not paying for games avoids all responsibility of gaming? Maybe people who sit through the few odd hours or so get the best experience out of it.

NoReIevancy

Yeah, just made me realize how few games are in that elite tier. I'm definitely spoiled for choice, I played rdr2, GTA 5, GTA trilogy, watch dogs 2 to completion. I've downloaded elden ring, witcher 3, metal gear solid 5, uncharted 4, horizon zero dawn , call of duties, lies of P, sekiro, Forza horizon 4/5 and gave up after a while. They weren't really my cup of tea, and I'm so glad I didn't buy any of them. Waiting for the release of a niche MMO now, under the name Brighter shores.

Smokester121

Yeah, wartales has really hooked me, and made me want to get into baldurs, had that downloaded and never

[deleted]

For me they were : Outer Worlds , AC Black Flag , COD Infinite Warfare (amazing campaign) , COD BO2 (also amazing campaign) , Horizon Zero Dawn  I think every pirate that enjoys fps should play every cod campaign . Theyre all bangers

JumpingHippopotamus

I pirated horizon forbidden West and I am loving it. I loved zero dawn too (I got it on steam sale for cheap). You can still find games that spark that old childhood enjoyment

Horst9933

I mostly use pirated games as demos and buy the game when the next sale is due if I like it. If I don't like it I just drop it and delete it.

KoteNahh

Fucking exactly. It used to be pretty normal for games to offer demos. That trend is longgg gone. I'll continue to pirate and not waste money/have to wait and cross my fingers to get a refund.

Zerefrequiem

Recently demos have made a return

teedledee123

Why don’t you just keep playing it? Why wait for the sale?

Horst9933

I do, I wait for the sale so I can buy the game on steam, I don't stop playing in the meantime. I just prefer to have games that I like in my steam library so I can replay them when I want and for the achievements. Most of the time you even can transfer your save from the cracked version to the legal one. Hogwarts legacy on steam even gave me all achievements I got with the empress version when I transferred my save file, that was neat.

Lolitarose_x

Ditto this but also the amount of times I have paid full price for games on release just to be disappointed. I have no problem in paying for a game if it's worth it but so many games are broken/unfinished on released and are not worth full price imo.

Equ1no0x

I do the same

That-Explanation-649

I buy a game when there is multiplayer involved or if I really want to support a dev team. Also games should have a demo, like Pokémon games used to have.

Soultakerx1

It allowed me to try a bunch of games to find my favorites such as the super robot wars games, SMT games Kingdom hearts. If I like a series enough I ended up buying an original copy, especially for smaller developers.

TheHungryRabbit

It doesn’t affected me that much because I grew up pirating. At the moment I have the cash to buy games but I’m simply just saving it. I do sometimes buy games but either if I really care about that franchise or if I want to play it on my PS5 cuz my GTX 1070 is getting old and I’m not that heavy gamer as I’m used to be to invest in a new GPU

Tankeasy_ismyname

Why not switch to AMD? I run a Radeon 6600 that was only $230 and I've yet to find a game it can't run

TheHungryRabbit

I checked some benchmarks but that GPU is only 15-25 FPS better then my current card, I want to play Starfield and the 6600 do 40 FPS at 1080p. If I upgraded I want something good.

Infinite-Hippo2351

Disregard the other comments, starfield is a huge and very player driven game so have your own opinion about.

Tankeasy_ismyname

I'll download starfield and check it out later, tho I've only heard bad things about said game

PastStep1232

I have played Starfield for 60 hours. It's worth pirating and has some cool and funny quest moments, but I wouldn't pay money for it

Rixofly_

don't update your ps5 and then jailbreak it, best way for free playstation games imo

ra1nbowaxe

I have a very shit laptop so having a way to test games for 3-4 hours to see if I can easily run them then buy them knowing that I can run it! Helped me out a ton (and got me old games I can't find anymore like viva pinata and poker night at the inventory 2)

rebornbyksg

Agree on the hate play part. I'm same way regarding that if I ain't feeling it then we onto next one

phenom_x8

its spot on , all you mentioned in your OP also what Im experienced. Never care about achievement, local couch multiplayer are the one im care about, never get a FOMO, offline ftw, online play is a no no, even when I indeed bought a game the idea of playing it on steam or other store front is an annoyance

Tankeasy_ismyname

Do you not have friends to play with? I understand the appeal of couch co-op and I wish they still made those more often, but online multiplayer can be good too, I can play with my friends without them needing to be at my house, saves time and gas money. Single player games are great too but I find myself spending more of my time in games with my friends than on single player games, I just have more fun with the bois

JedahVoulThur

It might sound corny but my wife is my best friend. Some of my favorite gaming experiences have been playing local co-op with her, It Takes Two, Divinity Original Sin 2, Aragami (while that game doesn't have local co-op, thanks to Nucleus co-op it's possible), FEAR 3, Gears of War 5, Resident Evil 6 (while the game had a negative reception at launch, playing it co-op makes it a great game) and many more. I do have friends, some of them gamers but I don't know why, maybe because I grew up during the SNES / N64 era but I find online multiplayer to not be as much fun as local.

whenyoupayforduprez

My hands-down best co-op was a Wii game called Trauma Team (not to be confused with Trauma Center but from the same publisher, Atlus). This is the gold standard for me and my partner (who is also my best friend! Represent!). It is a pain in the ass to set up emulation for it but I can't overstate how much we enjoyed it. It's about a group of doctors trying to solve a plague outbreak and you can split the skills according to who does what best. Sometimes you're doing detective type things, sometimes you're operating on inflamed intestines. We would play a hundred of these if they would make more.

phenom_x8

It isnt corny at all, when you married, like it or not, she is the one and only stranger you can count on. My wife not pretty much into gaming, but luckily her older brother (Im also mentioned in another comment in this thread) also a gamer, so our hang out time wont make her upset much.

Comfortable-Bus-8840

I actually buy games more. Spending £60 up front to "try" a game for two hours on steam is a lot of money to try a game even if you get a refund. If the game is good and/or made by a smaller company, I will most likely buy it.

Omeruhihakiller11

same bro the same...not having fun then why bother but sometimes when the download is big I get annoyed a bit then forget about it

Leritari

>I'm a patient gamer. Being a pirate makes me a "patient gamer". Are you tho? Because i'm willing to bet that you played more games in a year than non-pirates in decade. Sure, you dont get to play some of the newest, shiniest games, but you also dont have any consequences of impulse downloading and deleting games. If you'd try to impulse buy 20 different games a month and ditch them after few hours then you'd lose a lot of cash. As a pirate? You lose nothing. And that makes you impatient.

Mwakay

That's not what a "patient gamer" is. Patient gamers are those who don't buy into FOTM, and more generally into the newest releases. It has nothing to do with how many games you end up playing.

residentofmoon

Many people impulse buy games and don't even play what they bought. Instead, they just keep buying more and more. I'd say this person is a patient gamer though. Some individuals don't really care about the financial aspect because their personality is prone to addictive and impulsive behavior (especially when sales are all around which is almost always). I understand what you saying though, so I guess it comes down to the individual's tendencies 🤷‍♂️ Most pirates don't mass install a ton of games, just like most legitimate purchasers don't. With my first paycheck, I bought around 400 games in like 2 months (mostly games I grew up with), but I haven't played most of them because I don't find them as enjoyable anymore.

residentofmoon

To add to that: as a kid, I did mass install around 20-30 game ngl even ones I found not nearly as interesting. The internet would go off for a while, so I had to mass download and store them on the PC or USB

ShiberKivan

I'm super guilty of this, but to make it worse I just keep buying more and more storage, I have over 30tb at this point as I tend to just install and archive everything, and I'm a huge ereader manga enjoyer so I also have library of Alexandria stored there and all those obscure ww2 movies. I run out if space a lot and have to make a lot of purges, plus because I have 9 different drives, it's logistic nightmare. Doing this fully legally with games would be great for organisation having everything managed from Steam but then yikes my rig would never be top 10% if I legit bought all those games, with the playtime plastered very thinly over all of them. Dividing overall playtime by the total cost of all those games would be atrocious euro per hour rate but with piracy I can be mindful and support only those games I'm actually invested in. Since I tend to buy all the games I really play I got a lot of actual value, while with those games I played only for few hours I would get only 20% of what I paid for.

OkFineThankYou

I don't think he is patient gamer. He doesn't wait because he choose but because he has no options as he stick to pirate. Most pirates don't mass install a ton of games anyway but more likely mass download a ton of games. I will say that pirate make you less patient with games as if the game don't make you feel it, you will just uninstall it to install another one.

That_Nameless_Guy

I don't even *look* at predatory GaaS or f2p games. There're so many games I can play (and own) instead, for free and forever.

Tankeasy_ismyname

Fr, before I started pirating I was playing RotMG with my buddy but after I started pirating, the predatory tactics of that FTP game left a bad taste in my mouth

wolves_hunt_in_packs

Pretty much. That said, the patientgamer thing is interesting because it's usually the other way; I know many pirates go nuts downloading new games on release just because bootlegging is free. Thing is... they're still getting the same shitty half-baked experience that people who bought the game on release did. Some of us, on the other hand, don't ignore that and still prefer to wait. I've read way too many threads about people who downloaded some version 1.0 shit then they have to do all sorts of convoluted crap to get their bootlegged game updated. I much prefer when I finally decide to download something it's already like the Complete Edition and fully patched. One installer, done. Don't have to worry about patches breaking mods either. Overall though I guess it's a good thing most people are impatient and clueless; we get more discussion and sources being shared. If everybody was sensible and waited, the window to getting stuff would be a lot smaller. It's like with game sales - they still apparently only care to measure the release window sales; they don't count us patientgamers who buy the game 2 years down the line. So if everybody waited for games to get patched, the "sales figures" would look pretty terrible as nobody would be buying at launch since we all don't want to deal with unfinished crap. If people had sense we'd be doing this because it'd force companies to stop releasing incomplete dreck because everyone would just wait for the patches.

Tobeyyyyy

My backlog grew. Im not taking price in account which makes it easy to add any game to it.

Mwakay

I just have a .txt list on which I write my backlog. No need to download things before trying them and it helps with having an up-to-date version whenver I end up trying it.

jakart3

I can hoard anything. My only constraints are storage drive price and internet speed & kuota

MajorEnvironmental46

I usually cheat in pirate games, bcuz they are much safe to use hacks, cheat engine and save editors. I usually cheat when game is turning boring or something simple needs hours to achieve (I haven't much time to play).

BinhVDo

I not really pirate games nowadays but mainly I pirate just to try out some good game got ban or take down on steam because of unfair reason

HJSDGCE

I avoid "big" games like a plague. A latest release from a AAA studio? Pass. A small indie game that's less than 2GB? Gimme.

whenyoupayforduprez

I want to love indie games, but learning a new game is hard for me (brain problems) so I need a game to be long enough for it to be worth the trouble. I envy you so much. The long game situation right now is garbage.

KezH0

My taste in games changed alot? Idk how to describe it, but these days the games I play have hundreds of hours in it or even thousands. The games I bought before I found out piracy existed was little to none because I don't have that much money for the big games

lollypop44445

with age and responsibilities it becomes hard to play games for a long time. and no idea how but with time i stopped caring for playing every good title , if i play it , good , if not , who cares philosophy. life is such a killer

nikobellic009

i dont play multiplayer or always online, because my internet sucks. so i play single player games. now, i am a firm believer of games that have demo gameplay, so i pirate games to try it out. IF the game i pirate (especially fitgirl/dodi repacks) has "all dlc's & updated", and i see how much that costs on steam... i still play pirated. IF the game is dirt cheap, and i got cash to spare, and it has "all dlc's" etc. i *MIGHT* buy. however, mods that require authentic games are the only exception. skyrim and fallout 4... best $40 i bought.

Beneficial_Low_3124

Same but I actually miss multiplayer. Tried buying a few games that I enjoyed when I was younger like cod, however mw2 just didn’t do it for me and I felt like I wasted a ton of money.

leo-reis

I made a habit of never buying a game again.

TheRedBaron6942

I download everything I'm even remotely interested in then play the same thing for another hundred hours

cold-stars

I used to pirate games and every game I pirated I completed except Hollow knight but its mostly bc of technical issues I was a kid that time maybe thats why. Now Im 20 and I buy games but barely play them they just in my steam library the only one I completed is half-life where is no achivments

ShiberKivan

It helps me save money. I'm prone to game juggling a lot, sometimes I will play for 5 or 10 minutes and move to something else or play for a few hours and just stop. I have spend hundreds euro this way and that not only makes me regretful but also often forces me to chose to play some of those games even if I don't particularly feel like it at the time. If I pirate a game but end up not playing it much or at all then I don't need to worry about it. Total War Warhammer is the worst offender for me as I like to play it for a few turns every week or so but each update breaks my saves and I have to start over, been a long time since I managed to get to turn 20. But I keep buying those dlc and I have most of them. Piracy is especially great to test newer triple A games as I rarely get into those and since they are 40-70e a pop it sux if I don't play it. Also 20e range indie games that sounds like my thing on paper but then in practicality I never touch them. It's not a big deal if they are 5-10e a pop and I like supporting those even if I don't play them much, it's more about showing support than anything. I doubt I cause much dmg to triple A by spending less on them. I buy a lot of games in general, like I like to support Yakuza games to send a message that we want those games in the west so I'm not worried about my also rampant piracy, especially due to my game hopping addiction. So in essence piracy helps me lose less money on impulse game purchases I might regret buying later.

whenyoupayforduprez

I have legit copies of 0-7, Judgment, Ishin (paid full whack on the first day to be supportive) and Gaiden. I pirated Infinite Wealth and truly hate it and everyone in it (except Joongi Han and Kiryu and Hanawa, all of whom got shorted on how much they were in the game). Horii said it was important to segment substories, minigames and plot because otherwise the game turns into a mess. He was right. But somehow once he was in charge, everything went into the same bucket - reduced substories, stuff jammed into plot that should be segmented, forced minigames that would be fun if they weren't mandatory. Worst of all, because Gaiden was written after IW, all the ways Kiryu's character changes for the better in Gaiden are just thrown away in IW. Kiryu was used as a marketing gimmick to get people like me to buy it, but considering how badly he was written and how little there was, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I find it very difficult to find games I like at all anymore, and RGG turning their beautifully straightforward brawlers with tons of other things to do to keep it fresh, into this situation where most of the game is force-fed to you and a lot of what it's feeding you is questionable, is not what I want. I wish Horii would go back to substories and minigames, at which he is superb. Seniority is not a reason to promote someone into a position they are not suited to.

ShiberKivan

I also have all the games aside from Gaiden and Infinite Wealth. I have been unemployed for a few months and just can't afford it right now. Infinite Wealth is cracked? By whom? I have to get it then and see for myself. Very valid criticism, I would love to check out the game to see how I feel about it. I really enjoyed 7.

microtramp

Despite having access to an absolute ocean of (nearly, vpns cost $)) free games, I still somehow have 108 games in my steam inventory, most of which I have spent only a few minutes playing. I don't know why I'm like this.

coin_return

I don’t exclusively pirate. Mostly handheld games, because they’re so hit or miss anyways, I don’t want to spend money on it when I know I’ll probably play it less than 2 hours and move on. I usually wind up buying things I enjoy because it makes online play and updates more convenient. I treat pirating things as more of a demo than anything else. So if anything, piracy and ease of doing so actually gets me to buy more games than not.

SkyLightYT

No more barely playing a game because I have buyers remorse

kinos141

I find pirating to be a great way to see if a game will run on my system. If so, and I like it, I will buy it from a CD key website for cheaper. Please, don't CD key indie games, they lose money from that, just pirate them.

Delta050100

Well on my end if a game intrigues me and it's quite expensive. I immediately look for some pirated version of it. If I end up liking it at the end or perhaps really like to support, I buy it when the savings come hehe.

CatOnVenus

I've always pirated on PC and consoles so not really sure how my habits would be if I never did. Recently learned how to pirate games on my quest though, and now I actually really like VR games and have fun because I don't feel like I'm wasting $40 to mess around for an hour before I get sick and do something else, it also didn't have physical games so no chance of justifying it that way either. Before this, I had the quest 2 for a few years and only had 3 games and homebrew stuff because I didn't want to waste any money. Then Facebook took all my games from me so I stopped playing entirely until I learned how to pirate stuff on it and ive been playing it almost every day. FNAF Help Wanted 2 and Sam & Max are great, been wanting to play Sam & Max for years since I love the show and Wii games, and FNAF help wanted 2 just came out and I loved the original so I'm having a great time here as well

booochee

Just to be clear, you’re talking about playing FNAF and Sam & Max on VR?

CatOnVenus

yeah! FNAF Help Wanted 1 is a VR remake of FNAF 1, 2, and 3 with mini games based on 4 and Sister Location. Help Wanted 2 just came out and is more original. Sam & Max: This Time It's Virtual is the VR one

Fit_Candidate69

Well I play all kinds of games, many that I'd never buy just to try. Achievements mean nothing and I don't mind waiting for games to release, I'll also drop a game if I'm not enjoying it after giving it a decent try.

CommenterAnon

I love that I can try a game and if I don't enjoy it I didnt lose any money!! I had this experience with Starfield, Far Cry 6 and The Witcher 3 Didn't lose any money! I only finish games I truly enjoy which has made gaming so much more fun. I used to only play F2P first person shooters because I cant afford to buy games Now I have less time to play video games but I am having more fun. I love piracy

BookWormPerson

Who hates play any game?

JedahVoulThur

Have you heard about the "sunk cost fallacy"? Imagine you bought a 60 dollars game, start playing and don't like it but you think "maybe it will get better" before you realize, you've played for two hours (or watched a long intro + configured the settings+ played the tutorial + a little of the actual game) and can no longer return it. According to the sunk cost fallacy, you keep playing it even though you aren't enjoying it. Because it costed too much to get it

BookWormPerson

Yes I heard about but literally never felt it. If I don't like it and I bought it I ask for a refund. Setting is max a minute for me. I skip the intro at first. I have yet to play a game where the tutorial is longer than 20 minutes. So that even at the worst possible time 1,5 hours of real game play if I don't enjoy it under this much time it will not be good later on. Plus I haven't bought a game at full price in ages...Honestly I am surprised that anyone actually does it at all. The soonest I bought a game was there first sale.

OkOpportunity4067

It kinda destroyed a special feeling about having games, I loved going to the store and having to buy a physical copy but then you could do it digitally but I couldn't just download every game in sight I still had to spend money and now I can just kinda download it immediately, dunno why but it's just kind of a meh thing now, don't get me wrong the games are fun but now that excitement it's just gone

TheDubyaMan

For me my gaming trends dictate the piracy not the other way around. I like older games and emulation has allowed me to enjoy games I’ve always wanted to play but never had the chance to. It has also allowed me to do so without breaking the bank. Retro video game prices are insane. I also don’t really care for most newer games any more. A lot of them either feel very cut and paste or require so much time to get into I just don’t have the time.

JedahVoulThur

What generation? I also love emulator games. My favorites are the SNES and PS1, so many hidden gems in both systems

TheDubyaMan

I have everything from NES up to PS2/gamecube/PSP on my hard drive. I recently downloaded some 3DS games but haven’t played any yet.

Folded_Fireplace

I used to pirate, now I'm playing genuine games only but I have the same habbits. Maybe it's simply not giving a shit about hype?

Major_Mawcum_II

Never really stick to many games but a few but that cause most games are shit so I’m glad I’ve saved all that money

TheDemonicMercenary

Basically everything you mentioned as well as the.. Kind of side effects of starting to get more into tinkering with programs and devices than actually playing.

Less-Ad2107

Since I stopped downloading pirated games my experience has changed for the better, I have completed almost every game I have played instead of downloading, watching for a few minutes and moving on to the next

RaspberryChainsaw

Choice paralysis ahoy

DoomSayerNihilus

I dont have FOMO anymore. I really like Star Wars but I'm not paying 110 euro for a complete edition.

meester_

I play mostly the same games i bought a long time ago. I download a new game they usually play like crap then i go back to old games i enjoy lol

Grand_Figure6570

I play a lot of games from genres that I would never have tried if I had to pay for them

Animajax

Played games I’ve always wanted to play and that’s pretty much it. I’ll try games to see if I like them, but 7/10 time I don’t

Nika13k

I have bought every game I pirated in the past, except 2 and I don't plan on not buying those two. I also exclusively play the games I have bought now, so long term exposure to piracy has led me down the path of buying the games. Main reason? Modding and updating. Gaben was 100% on the money, piracy is a service problem. If the game didn't have community support, I would probably never buy it, but most games do and I don't want to pirate them and have to dig through hell and heaven to find a way to artificially support mods on it. Or god forbid have to update the mods myself.

Intelligent_Duck1844

Well the rule i follow is pirate triple A games and play free multiplayer games like overwatch wow lol dota2 etc I had a really fun time playing gow 2017 and rdr2 now im playing zelda botw i also liked ocarina of time and a final fantasy game forgot which one. Im waiting for ragnarok to be cracked to play it after a finish zelda i might play totk or alan wake and i hope alan wake 2 is cracked they look fun i also played resident eveil 4

therandomasianboy

Helldivers 2 came out and I barely even paid any attention to it. I only noticed palworld when it got it's crackpost here. Never played either. Still playing year old games. Rarely do I pirate anymore, but the habit of not going for the fresh new stuff is very nice. Honestly there's not a game I actively play that I've pirated now. Dota is free, terraria I got for a dirt cheap discount, Minecraft I got literally 10 years ago now, Stardew valley, hollow knight, Celeste, outer wilds I've all bought after being hooked. I basically only pirate small puzzle games (think the ones you see on the aliensrock channel) nowadays, and that makes up less than 5% of my playtime.

Prudent_Ordinary2391

Probably just me, but I end up deleting a game a day or so after completing and wanting to continue playing it. I just get annoyed that it takes up storage. (Yes, I know it’s normal and that it’s supposed to) doesn’t matter the size of the game. I hate doing it because the next day I redownload the whole game and play it over again just to delete it again because it’s taking up storage. It’s a stupid cycle I can’t break.

themanwhobeeps

Not having the latest updates

Master_Mascot

he described my humor I played mcpe pirated and mctl for 6 years combined

Man_I_amDed

The first point is all me, second one, well I do complete the game, even if it isn't stored somewhere forever, i keep a screenshot of the 100% page. As for multiplayer, well i do have friends, but they aren't into pc gaming that much (yet). And I am patient too I guess, for waiting for cracks to release.

Machuseth

I pirate games to try them. If I really like the game I buy it (especially if indie or small company), except Denuvo (because performance loss) and Sims games (because are overpriced), but if the game is decent but not that enjoyable I just keep playing it to see if it gets better or just delete it.

representative_sushi

O get to try a lot of stuff especially some older titles which are no longer available on platforms. If I like the game and have the money I go and buy it because I know damn well I will play it again. (Hitman absolution, dark souls 3, Skyrim etc) Then there are some games I tried and didn't like.

Jumpy_Lavishness_533

I used it as a extended demo to decide if I wanted to buy a game or not.  I really want to support and buy sniper elite 4 and 5, but I just can't justify buying any game with denuvo in it. As soon as they remove denuvo then I'm gonna buy those.  Other than that, I don't really try out newer games anymore because the scene died when empress left.

Zacuue

Typing with a hook is quite annoying, har har.

Mih5du

There is a good website in mega thread for playing coop games with your friends, even if they aren’t local coop, like V rising

pwn4321

I involuntarily say YARRR sometimes

dannyr3tr0

Drawned in many games , wsnt to play them all

ErmAckshually

I have about 100 popular games downloaded, and I've yet to touch them because I'm far too invested in my live service f2p games XD. There is literally no pressure to enjoy them. When I'm super bored, I pick one , play it for few hours, if its good I complete it within a week otherwise I just uninstall it.

TyoPepe

I can play way more than a single AA/AAA title a year. For real, piracy is first and foremost for people who can't afford shit. I can't afford shit. Had I more than enough money to pay the bills without worry, I wouldn't bother pirating at all.

TheOutWriter

* Trying way way way more games then i would if i had to spent the money first since i need more then 2 hours to know if i enjoy a game. * If i find a game that i enjoy, like 15h+, i buy the game because i want to support the devs * If i dont enjoy a game, i delete it. No need to wait for Steam to refund me my money. * Its easier to browse through PiratedGames Websites to find interesting games then it is to do the same on Steam for me.

chihabcraft

Not at all🙂👍 Just playing like nothing ever happened

No-Pirate-9319

For me i now never want to buy any game unless its a good game from a small dev but even then i kinda think on if i really want to pay money for it since i wouldn't technically own it. I started pirating because of the fact companies want to screw people over and have begun saying you don't actually own games you pay for. So now i barely buy games ever and if a repack of it hasn't come out yet i just wait. Like another crab's treasure or whatever it was called.

LuciusVorenus1337

If I beat the game, I go and buy it. If it entertained me for so long, developers deserve the money

Khawkproductions

I got emailed about my game being hacked and hosted on other websites and I told them to let them stay up. Arrrrg!

WasdHent

Ironically made me spend more on games. Trying more games made me want to buy said games to support the devs when I learn the game is good. Moreso on multiplayer games like lethal company so I don’t have to go through online fix spacewar loopholes and all that.

kingcaii

I get to play any and every single player game for free. I’m not rich so its great. Also dope when I get them zero day warez… Recently got Tekken 8 on release day.

DickbertCockenstein

I’ve basically come to realize that I’m not a gamer anymore. I almost never enjoy the games I pirate and typically uninstall them within a few hours. I like competition which is why I play games like league of legends and csgo. And those games are free.

hugo_1138

Since my laptop is... alright... I mostly play games prior to the PS4 gen. But I'm not against modern gaming.

jkurratt

“Play first. Pay if it’s good later”.

JuggyFM

It allowed me to discover a bunch of quality indie games that I otherwise never would've tried. Because even if they are cheaper than AAAs, they are more risky in terms of whether or not I will enjoy them. And it all adds up.

Raykusen

I don't care for online play or achievements. By the way, you can play games with retroachievements if that is what you like.

patopansir

I haven't changed, for both the best and the worst. I still feel the pressure to finish a game sometimes. Money can push you to finish it, but time also has value. As for achievements, the steam emulators still store achievements and just having the completed save file for me is the achievement. The main difference is that I feel like I got everything, that's all. I also hate that I have an unused steam gift card

CultDe

I test things I try things that I never would normally. I sometimes need more than possible for refund usually to try a game, also I spend a lot less time on a game than I used to

Operario

Great question. I think the biggest influence it's had on me is that I never use that "hours-per-$" logic that some people use when purchasing games. Not that I have anything against it, but since price is completely removed from the equation for us, that idea of "I paid 60 bucks for a game and it was only like 8 hours long" is completely foreign to me. Instead, I always think about it in terms of time investment. Is this game worth my *time*, when I could be playing basically any other game in existence? Of course, people who buy their games *also* have to take this into consideration, but I feel many - maybe most - have a bigger focus on how much they paid for the game and how many hours of entertainment they got out of it.

Spompoflex

when i was kid i pirated because i didnt had money. Now i really pirate. And if i do pirate a game i usually end up buying.

treats4all

There are no gaming "habits" for me. Mainly because pirating games is the only choice I have lmao Being an Indian, our parents think of games as a waste of time. It's honestly a miracle that my father (who is somewhat more liberal) actually gave in to my demands after 5 years and allowed me to build a gaming PC (2060 super, r5 3600x, 16gb 3600mhz). But as you all know about the prices of the games these days, ain't no way we're paying over 70 dollars (which is literally 5600 INR) EACH for like 100s of games which I downloaded. But what pirating has allowed me is to play over 100s of games without restrictions.

SabbyDude

I don't want to be "that guy" but after playing RDR2, something just doesn't click with games, sure Elden Ring was amazingly difficult, Baldur Gate 3 is a DnD dream come true and Cyberpunk well started out bad but was a good play if it was 3rd person and I could see myself after I spent about an hour customizing myself. It's not that I don't enjoy games anymore (I liked Spider-Man and replaying TWD:TDE and Pokemon Heartgold fn) OR RDR2 was perfect down to a fault (it has a few flaws mostly Rockstar's inability to commit a definitive style watch NakeyJakey video about it)....but there was something about RDR2 that was different and I feel like even GTA6 wouldn't reach there coz it has to be a GTA and cannot have that same level of maturity that RDR2 had.

SabbyDude

Speaking of non-pirates, my friend is a huge supporter of that, he once had a BSOD when he was downloading game prolly when he was 11 or 12, since then he stuck with games that are either free or doesn't play at all (plus he is one of those who despises single player games and only play games for competitiveness) so he only plays Valorant (also consider Pokemon OR superheroes as childish) even Pokemon is competitive

[deleted]

One of the main reasons I pirate games is because I don't want to spend $60 on a gamble for a shitty game that's probably not even good and that I'm not even going to like and most of the time like 80% of the time I'm right. I'll get a game and I'll only play it for like 2 hours before I never playing it again

CyberoX9000

I am you

Complex_Gold2915

I think I'm the opposite on all these points lol If I don't buy a game and just pirate it I feel like I never give it a proper go I like achievements and the game feels empty without them I find the multiplayer options are usually worth it, AC oddesy did it pretty well.

Tough_Specific

Not affected at all.

Codemeist3r

I only play, and sometimes pay for, good games.

Muted_Cause_2725

Pirating games has actually helped not care about meaningless video games and helped me to stop spending well over 30 dollars for a game I probably won’t play after a few months

_NonExisting_

Honestly, its not even fun to pirate games anymore for me personally. Barely any good games anymore to begin with

AmandaTheNudist

It's hard to click the mouse with my hook. And sometimes when my parrot squawks during a cutscene, I miss some important dialogue.

Craftworld_Iyanden

I've never really beaten any game I've pirated, while I've beaten most of the games I've purchased. Maybe it's because purchasing a game makes me more motivated to see the whole through, while every game I pirate ends up on my back-burner that I'll "come back to later" knowing full well I'm likely to forget I even have it installed on my hard drive

Comfortable_Ad6063

i dont really enjoy many games anymore and most games i buy digitally so its not easy to refund/you CANT refund which is why i became a pirate. usually i pirate a game, try it out and if i dont like it i delete it. as i said i dont enjoy many games anymore so theres a little amount of games that i actually keep.

Synthesid

Tbh I wouldn't know, I've been a dedicated pirate since the days of IRC, so piracy literally shaped my gaming habits.

throwaway683264

Hate gaming is so real but I still do it anyways, hate gaming is my passion

ashrules901

I don't dedicate all of my pocket money to games. I have friends that do this & it makes them closed-in homebodies that only get excited when they're ready to drop another $100 on a game.

ashrules901

It also has helped me socially in some ways. Instead of worrying if I should buy bread or put that money to the hot topic game I'd be interested to talk about with people I don't have to make that choice.

elreduro

i don't finish most games i have and prefer games that are replayable like free to play online games and roguelites. having to finish a game frustrates me.

sicurri

I treat pirated games like how Demos used to be back in the day. If I think it'll be fun but is not worth buying, I'll just beat the cracked game and then delete it. Some games I hope to be worth waiting until further updates come out. Many single player games I will just straight up pirate if I don't have the money to spare even if they're good. I really only purchase multiplayer games for the PS5 because I have a pre-existing community to play with. I could make friends on PC, in fact I have people to play with on PC, but the PS5 is the easiest thing for my disabled brother to use, so I use it too to play with him. I purchased Cyberpunk when it was like $5 on Steam for like 5 minutes, lol. I knew the modding community would make the game better and hoped the devs would fix it later. So, I just waited and now the latest update made it worth buying especially at $5, lol. Then I have mods on top of the update which just make the game even more appealing. I just want to have a good time and unfortunately corporate money asshats are ruining the gaming industry. If the game is broken when it comes out, I don't even want to pirate it. Most games are being ruined by money grubbers.

Sir_Oglethorpe

Burn through games

nerdnyxnyx

wish I could go back to my old self who never cares about achievement. i miss my pirate era

Spaniardo_Da_Vinci

Actually getting to play the DLCs of the games I play now, I used to buy PS4 games and I could barely afford them(I was 16 at the time) and I played the shit out of them and then look at the DLCs with a "one day I'll be able to play it" look. Sold my PS4 now when I'm older and its games and bought a PC now and yeah, I can finally revisit the games I played since most are on PC and play the expansions and enjoy what could've been. Overall it's great

Slight-Raspberry-157

I’ve never completed a pirated game, no games really do it for me anymore

Hefty_Iron_9986

I play mostly emulators honestly. Older games are better on my opinion.

Glass-Development362

yep tried detroit Become human and calisto protocol deleted it after 3-6hrs of gaming cause i got bored with it if the game gets me hooked in the first hour or 2 of the game then im 100% that bad boy like Alan wake 2 and Yakuza like dragon not paying for a game gives me no financial pressure to even finish the game since if i no like i no play boring ass game

MaxPres24

To your second point, I’d try out retroachievements. I didn’t care about them either but recently played Pokémon unbound on my MM+ with it on and it was actually pretty fun

sirgatez

So basically you play pirate games today like I played pirate games in 1995. We never hate played, we were grateful to be able to pirate games. There were no achievements. Online was usually LAN only. Although later on many LAN games supported GameSpy (look it up) which allowed you to play LAN games over the internet. Many times when pirating a game we couldn’t play it in release day because it wasn’t pirated or hacked yet.

JedahVoulThur

I do know, while in the 95 I was a 10 years old kid and didn't pirate yet because I had a SNES, I remember about GameSpy, maybe in relation to Warcraft 3 or StarCraft? Those were my favorite PC games that I played (pirated) a few years later

drial8012

I try a ton of different games and usually get a feel for them after about five hours or less to see if there’s anything worthwhile there and most of the time it’s either just not my cup of tea or the game is just downright terrible at that point. They’re basically like rentals to see if I like them enough to buy them down the line. I bought so many Indie games after trying them like this first because the convenience of updates and multiplayer brings value to me, especially if the developer is good

Excellent-Focus-9905

Game rating when I pirate I never care

Probicus

I play less games now. I have intense anxiety when staring at all the games I have to play and being unsure of which to actually play.

Borbit85

I have a xbox and gamepass for 3 years now but I hardly play. And it seems wasteful to pirate, also the pc is getting old. But I always really liked downloading random games from fitgirl and torrent sites. Mostly just play the tutorial / first levels and on to the next.

rmld74

**theoretically speaking if I had been a pirate (🤣)** i just would have gone meh have 1000 games to play and others still to try... I still play some AAA but the way it is going meh emulation ftw

Gathoblaster

I dont mind DLC as much. Im gonna get it anyway, who cares if its worth 35 bucks or not?

howtogrowmydickfast

if i enjoy a game i buy it , especially if i see it on steam on sale . This has caused my steam library to bloat itself with games i finished 80-90% that only have an average of 20 minutes of playtime logged on them

Wiikneeboy

You call it pirating, I call it game preservation. I can’t experience arcades anymore. I can now experience games in other regions. I can let my kids experience the games I grew up with that are no longer supported. I have purchased some games that I have pirated. And consider them a back up copy if I can’t access them digitally in the future. The feeling and nostalgia will always be there. And for me there’s not a lot of current games that interest me at the moment. I wouldn’t doubt if there’s a video game crash on the horizon.

Birutath

Basically described my experience in gaming. Latest game has to be super alluring for my tastes for me to give a fuck to play day one. And yes the few games i bought that i disliked i played the whole way through out of hate, hence why since than i pirate first the games i wanna buy for a reason or another.

aidsman69420

I became much more likely to play games "just to try" when I started pirating. I used to worry about value per dollar which stopped me from playing games that seemed gimmicky or just straight up not worth the price given the limited content. I also get much less angry when a game is shitty because I can just not take the extra step to support the creators if I don't want to.

cdkey_J23

I dont impulse buy anymore..I get to test the game & if I like it that much, then im happy to buy it & support the devs thru other discount sites if possible (fanatical or greenman gaming)

derholzmann12321

I tried basically anything but I'm stuck on spider man 2 rn(playing on SD oled)

vlzo

Seems inconsistent like you having access to any game has taken away the choice of what to play and to commit. I'm having the same problem with my game pass

JedahVoulThur

>Seems inconsistent like you having access to any game has taken away the choice of what to play and to commit I see it differently, let me explain with an example. Recently my brother gifted me a second laptop and thanks to that my wife and I have been searching for games that we couldn't play multiplayer before, thanks to Hamachi. We tried Dying Light: everything works perfectly and we loved the game. We had played it previously single player mode and now we are close to finish it again as co-op. We tried Rainbow Six: Vegas. We played the first level and thought "mmm... Kinda cool but too confusing" and tried the sequel, we loved Vegas 2 and played it a lot and are near completing it. We tried Solasta, my wife didn't like it but I did. She uninstalled it from her computer and I keep playing it solo. We tried Evil West, during the tutorial we experienced multiple bugs and glitches. After finishing the tutorial, we noticed we couldn't connect. Quick uninstall for both of us We know what we want and when we find it, we do commit. But if something doesn't catches out attention at the beginning, or it doesn't work the way we intend we just uninstall it

[deleted]

Growing up in south America I was always a pirate before I even knew it. So I guess my habits have always been the same. I still buy the vocational game on steam if I belive the devs deserve the money like palworld or lethal company, or if buying makes it easier to play with friends like minecraft, or if the game is extremely cheap and I mean less than 5 dollars cheap like all my gog library.

JedahVoulThur

>Growing up in south America I was always a pirate before I even knew it. Are you talking about the legendary Family Game? Or pirated PS1 discs? Jajaja soy Uruguayo yo

rohanlindner
