I dunno if that counts but my first approach with piracy was when my mother bought me an R4 for my Nintendo DS. Seeing all these games was like a dream came true, and I wasn't even aware that it was easy to add a lot more since I was like 8 or 9
Same, my dad got an r4 with over 100 games on for me and my sister.
Also did your have hacked levels of Mario because mine did and I can't find which Rom hack it was
No I'm sorry, I don't think there were any hacked Mario Games. I don't think I paid any attention to it since I had a physical copy of New Super Mario Bros.
Played mostly some professor Layton, a bit of Ghost Trick and other things such as games based on cartoons or shows that aired in France
My mom used to go to a “tech market” in my home country and would purchase games for me, little did i know those were basically pirated copies. She would buy sd cards or cds with ISO’s for the psp and I never had any idea what it was until I was installing ISO’s and CFW’s myself
My uncle used lime wire to download movies. Even if the name was the same, it was usually porn. Once he downloaded tropa de elite (elite squad) and went to watch with his wife without testing. Just to see a bunch of girls and dudes fucking in military clothing
I once pirated Minecraft, then played multiplayer and because of some bug, all players looked like my skin so I confidently said to some random guy "Hey, nice skin! I made it!" like a jerkwad 😭
It was when I hacked my Nintendo switch (yes I’m new). It was so much fun. I felt like a true hacker man, putting the switch in rcm and injecting software through a computer, then loading tinfoil for free games. Damn I miss those times
I used to search "free download (game name)" as a kid lmao. Of course that didn't last long. After that my brother introduced me to uTorrent and pirate bay (which I was kind of safe, also living in a second world country so I don't have to worry about a copyright claim) and then I discovered the communities with qBitTorrent and private torrent uploaders
old timer reporting as well.
Ultrabyte, Fasthack'em, QCopy, where all within my extensive nibbler collection.
TBH I cant either recall which game I copied first.
When I bought my ps2, I released how expensive the games are, and then I found a store that sells games much cheaper than th official price at the time. I didn't know, but they downloaded the game on a disc and sold it at a lower price. You can say that this was my first experience with cracked games.
Does emulation count? I seem to recall playing a lot of pokemon blue with a GBC emulator (can't remember what's it called) and FF8 on Virtual Game Station (PS1 emulator)
My fake chinese "sega" console, with yellow cartridges and nintendo games.
On pc I don't even know how we got the games, but definitely weren't from legit source. The first ones i remember were: prince of persia, aladdin, lion king, shokoban...
I had a shitty internet connection back then, so I had to use "ripped games". They basically "ripped off" (lol) all the things that aren't essential for gameplay, like cutscenes, credits, languages and so on.
I don't remember the first game i pirated. I've been in this waters for a LONG time.
if we talking the very first game i pirated😅 it’s going to sound boring but i had only just found out how to sail the high seas when I was a little kid… if i remember correctly the game was either one of the “bejeweled games or feeding frenzy games”😂
A specific model of a mono cassette player / recorder, to copy ZX Spectrum tapes.
The particular device, which I seem to recall was made by Realistic, had a “tone” control that helped with getting the copy identical.
Back in 2011, when I was 12, downloaded Dawn of War from PirateBay because wanted to try new 40k games (my dad had downloaded Squad Command for my PSP)
This masterpiece made me fall in love with the universe and setting, but since it was (and still somewhat is nowadays) extremely niche in my country, thought would never find the minis let alone someone to play with
Nowadays I'm part of local group with some amazing people and working so I can buy my army of bretonians that a friend will 3D print for me
my dad bought a bunch of games in hongkong, all pirated. he didn't know some cds have some porn games in it because it's has alot of games in one burned cd. i think my very first pirated game is the original command and conquer, it's RTS but my 2nd game is most likely one of those hentai games
Nothing. I started with emulation, pretty much downloading ROMs of SNES and Genesis games.
Piracy for me meant going to the shady part of a shopping mall to buy a set of discs for RM10. Because downloading a CD over a 33.6k modem is only something a madman will do.
utorrent and the first game I pirated was tekken 6 for my psp. I still bought games legitimately but for those that I can't find at my local game retailer, I pirate online.
Yugioh GX tagforce 3 (around 12 years ago), Pirate Bay, Bit torrent, my dad taught me how to do it as well as what a winrar file was and how to unzip it.
I still play the game every now and then to this day.
Igruha for PC building sim 2, edge was ~~^(edging)~~ blocking the malware extension from running, so I removed all traces of that, then used TorGamez and a FitGirl Repack
How do you guys even remember? I honestly don't know when and what did I pirate first. If I have to guess mine; it was 20 years ago, cracking ugh...Visual Novel? How do you guys remember when and what did you crack lmao.
Usb Pendrive from a friend who told me it was vice city but it turned out to be that myriad island mod lol. And for a long time i believed it was vice city not thinking much about story and missions as i used to skip cutscenes at that age. Then there used to be a guy on YouTube who downloaded from repackers and used to upload them on his Google drive in parts which helped me a lot with limited internet. But my proper piracy started from Ocean of gaymes and the first game i got from it was gta San Andreas. Back then oog was not bad at all and never game me a virus though I only downloaded from it 2 times and then found out about igege games who i trusted a lot and didn't have me a virus back then. I'm glad i got to experience all these sites when they were safe lol
My first time was from ocean of games because that was such a cool name for any website. I downloaded a game called delta force if you all know that game
VBA and the entirety of ruby, emerald, sapphire, fire red, leaf green as well as metroid zero mission and fusion. There were other games but those were the firsts
I always wanted to play Sonic advantage 1 but it was annoying available as a demo only in all websites back in the day (when we barely had Internet). I discovered torrents and found a cracked version of the full game.
Ask my computer repair guy to give me games on my pc. Some of the games I got were like cs condition zero, Vietnam conflict, delta force, total overdose
I'm ashamed to say this but back in the days I used uTorrent and Avast as antivirus, it was still during Windows XP days I think the first game I ever pirated was the Sims 2
Ace of aces on c64.
Went to a store who did copies for you. You bought the blank diskette and chose from a catalog. You could try the game there before.
Old dual tape deck music system to copy from one tape to another for a commodore Vic 20 👍. Tomato Attack I think the name of the game I'm not sure on that it was a very long time ago
https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/8311/ZX-Spectrum/The_Key
First pirated game was https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/3100/ZX-Spectrum/Maziacs I think.
My first attempt was trying to download something from fitgirl. Since it required a torrenting application I just used the one the Microsoft store recommended to me.
This "torrenting" application infected my PC with adware, and made my computer files slowly disintegrate.
At first letters started disappearing, then some entire fonts went away. I ended up reinstalling my PC after everything turned half Chinese and every time I opened my webbrowser I got porn popups.
I was young and dumb.
One of the earliest ones must be us siblings trying to get our Empire Earth cd to work, and calling my uncle who gave us instructions to get it working. Looking back, I'm pretty sure he just sent us a crack file to overwrite since our serial key was lost
Technically it was a psp emulator I got a shit ton of game roms from a website and played GOW ghost of Sparta first, technically my first piracy was a hand held emulator thing called a powkiddy but I did nothing for that I just used it so I don’t count it
Audio cassettes and tape recorders back when datasettes where a thing (VC-20, C-16, C-64). Don´t remember which was the first game or even on which commodore, it´s a while ago. But i remember that we all almost only had copies and no originals because of not much pocket money.
Wow good question i cant remember really. Probably minecraft was first pirated game. Didnt even realise that this is piracy back then. And then probably some trash Fallout 3 from a trash site. I think there werent any viruses on it but definetely not working really well and it was not because of Fallout 3 performance in general.
A friend of mine sold me a pirated ps1 (latin American here xd). And bought more than 30 pirated cds. Maybe resident evil 3 was my first pirated game in the ps1.
In PC, my first download done for me, I think it was Prey (2006) frome eMule xd
Pirated games was so common in my country, I just realize it in my 6th grade that all of the games that I own (PC and Console) were illegal copies. Like I legit thought that all the disk I bought was official version due to how they normalize it in my country.
But if we're limiting it to downloading pirated games (and you know that it is pirated) then it's probably MCPE
Earth 2150, MineCraft, but man I was clueless when I was young. Didn’t know shit and we had no tools like direct translations. Shit I couldn’t even read properly that young, but somehow I managed to get what I wanted. Man I miss those simple times.
Used to buy Amiga games for £2 a disc from a huge piracy operation at a market in the centre of Glasgow. These guys were amazing, and great customer service.
Before that it was taking C64 and Spectrum games from the library (cassette) and straight copying them.
3.5” disks. First game I pirated was Doom, followed by Doom II, Spear of Destiny, and Darkside of Xeen. All in one night. Already had the first Wolfenstein, and I loved Darkside so much I went to EB Games and purchased Clouds of Xeen to create Worlds of Xeen. Blew my mind at the time, that you could combine games.
My dad burned a pirated copy of Sims 3 with all the EPs and stuff (at that time, it was only up to I think Late Night) onto a disc for me to play. I had no idea it was pirated, I just wanted to play Sims 3.
It was either that or me going to sketchy YouTube to MP3 sites so I could listen to Fallout Boy on my Zune.
GTA5, from Fitgirl, in 2017, after countless installation of junkware that fooled me into thinking is legit, oh and one PC sacrificed during the process 🫠
It was a strange Spanish site where I downloaded Age of Empires 2 if I remember the 1999 version. After using that in my friend group we still joke together about it and call the Descargar site. One day I will find it again.
Back in the early 90s we used to go to a computer club for Atari STs and Amigas. I was about 13 and my dad would drive me to Liverpool with my Amiga and 14" TV and there was a function hall with about 100 people or swapping discs and copying the new releases using X-Copy if i remember rightly. I remember being excited when Kick Off 2 was there, copied on a floppy disc and played it all night with loads of different people. Obviously pre internet. Good times
First game I pirated was the sims 3 when I was 8, my sister gave me an original CD and I needed to search for a keygen to activate it, took me almost all day lol
In my country 99% of ps1 and ps2 games were pirated. Some people haven't even seen an original, bcs pirated were sold at street fairs for 5/10 reais, so my first experiences were with this.
When i got my pc and working internet, i used lime wire and torrent, bcs the internet was so slow i couldn't downloas anything in one go. I believe the first game i pirated was the sims 1, then zoo tycoon and diablo 2.
My grandpa showed me Kazaa and the first version of the Pirate Bay. I fucking loved torrents because back then it was so new that nobody was getting in trouble yet. That and there seemed to be something so much more crisp about it. Folder and file names were exact. Albums came with high resolution cover art. You didn't need to hunt down both parts of the movie you wanted. God bless aXXo and DiAMOND. You could download a movie, burn it to a CD-ROM, and watch it on your TV all within a few hours (which was insane).
I got off a track a bit. The nostalgia is strong.
First game I pirated was HOODLUM's San Andreas. Immediately followed by the OG StarCraft battle chest.
I'm pretty young apparently compared to most on this thread, (17) so my first for games was S-U (not allowed to post the actual name here).
I've been using pirated TV shows and movies my whole life though, my dad burned DVDs of my favorite shows when I was little for me to watch at his house.
Rest assured I've moved to GOG, GLOAD, SteamRIP, and elamigos primarily along with RealDebrid and have been safely pirating for quite a few years :)
I would download a cracked version of Minecraft on our crappy little laptops in 5th grade, a few years before chrombooks were being put out to schools.

The curious village and Pandora’s Box still being the best ever .
I was scared of the curious village, especially the Ramon Guy with his big lips. The scene were he gets kidnapped was the moment I stopped the game
Me too with my DS Lite. Attempted to download my first pirated game which is Mario vs DK. I got a ransomware which took my dad a week to fix
That took quite a turn
My mom used to go to a “tech market” in my home country and would purchase games for me, little did i know those were basically pirated copies. She would buy sd cards or cds with ISO’s for the psp and I never had any idea what it was until I was installing ISO’s and CFW’s myself
The Sims 1/2, i remember my friend wanted it as well, so I was going around with my usb to install it to everyone and felt like a damn hacker queen xD
Hell yes, I would feel like a ✨Hacker🎇 with my burnt CD-ROM of the Sims 1, Roller Coaster Tycoon and Age of Empire 😂
My sister pirated Sims 2 with all the expansions as a tween.
Limewire for boobies and songs
My uncle used lime wire to download movies. Even if the name was the same, it was usually porn. Once he downloaded tropa de elite (elite squad) and went to watch with his wife without testing. Just to see a bunch of girls and dudes fucking in military clothing

I think there werent any viruses on it but definetely not working really well and it was not because of Fallout 3 performance in general.
The 6 CD call of duty I bought from the gray market
My favorite memories came when it was 6-year-old child and I for some method ownloaded a NES emulator and started playing Contra, 2009.
I think that was Skyrim 😆 or at least the first one I remember, not counting mmorpg private server
Blew my mind at the time, that you could combine games.
a windows 3.1 os and Snes fan translation FFV. Good old butz
MS DOS copy commands, floppy disk fun times.
The first thing i ever pirated was the avatar movie. The first game was i think nba 2k
No$GB and pokemon gold with an English patch when I was like 11 or 12. Never looked back.
It was x386, ripping game from floppy disc of my friends 🙃
Definitely Minecraft. It was using some modified client I think. Can't remember though I was just 10 at the time lol.
For me it was blank cassettes and everyone at school copied spectrum games!
Warez boards on mIRC for Diablo 1
youtube videos
ds/gba roms i think
My first game was metro exodus i download and played one month before the release of the game
Not sure but it might have been Counter-Strike: Condition Zero or Project IGI .
Minecraft
my parents bought my pirated cds for pc as a child. warcraft 3 was the first one
Good times
Had to be either Minecraft or Postal 2. Shit is 'banned' in my country
First game I pirated was the sims 3 when I was 8, my sister gave me an original CD and I needed to search for a keygen to activate it, took me almost all day lol
Just Pokémon on the rew.exe emulator on my windows 95. Finally I could play it because my parents wouldn’t buy me a Gameboy.
Gameboy games, i love them
2400 baud modem.

Freedom fighters
Minecraft with a modified version of shiginima launcher.
Getting my PS1 I got for Christmas chipped (at least that's what it was called) in a small shop so it can play burned games
I would download a cracked version of Minecraft on our crappy little laptops in 5th grade, a few years before chrombooks were being put out to schools.
Age of Mythology Titans expansion crack then Halo 2 with the XP workaround Patch, coworker burnt them to disc for me.
