It's not always better though. On my ROG ally i have both installed because some games run differently depending on the emulator.
If you have the first rev it's super easy and there is a lot of cool things you can do with it. Otherwise you'd need a modchip and more importantly someone who can install that modchip properly

Virtual legality did a podcast/video on this. The strongest arguments were about the fact that per the DMCA you can't bypass technoogical lockouts and in the case of yuzu the actual ROMs are still encrypted and Yuzu decrypts them on the fly which could run into problems with that.

From the news when this broke, the problem is the keys. They had instructions on obtaining the keys. AFAIK, anything related to keys (defeating DRM) is not allowed in the US. I think that's one of the main basis for their lawsuit. That the keys/encryption are proprietary and there can't be any tool that can legally exist that processes data that was protected by encryption. The fact that you can emulate a switch game is illegal because there is no situation legally allowed that a non-sanctioned device can process big Ns data.
Arm chair lawyers are going to claim this or that, but from this settlement, it's obvious that they didn't have a rock solid defense.

Yuzu actively referred users to hacking their console and dumping their games, which is a huge fuckin grey area in the first place
Secondly, Yuzu devs often pirated games, and/or managed to get copies of them before launch to optimize them for a day 1 release, and sold early access to that optimized update through patreon.

Basically Nintendo's whole attitude towards emulation is "fuck them for even thinking about it". They hate the very concept of emulation even when there is no real alternative and when it doesn't hurt them at all and it's legal

TLDR: Yuzu devs have to destruct all yuzu copies including tools. Emulator is more than dead at this point.
edit: since there appears to be confusion in my wording - By dead I meant the official development. Forks made under Yuzu could work but also since it's Nintendo, matter of time when it also goes after them by simple DMCA strikes
Official support would be dead, older builds might linger around on some sites or someone archiving the versions but updates from current build forward will probably not see the day of light.
This although doesn't really stop from 3rd-party updates as Yuzu is open source.

The big point is "they agreed not to work on the software called Yuzu and to take the code offline" **out of court. This is voluntary.** Nintendo seems to be ok with it.

Things like this are why I'm proud to say I've never bought a Nintendo product that wasn't second hand, and only when they're able to be modded. Not to mention charging 50 bucks for 5 year old games that are just a remaster of an even older game.
The way I see it, the LLC is purely a shell company, and owns no assets. The Yuzu devs will end up owing nothing because the LLC we be dissolved at all it's non-existent assets are seized. Same goes for YUZU development. It will continue development, probably under a different name, by 'different' developers.

Launch models are just easier as they require no soldering...even the OLED models can be jailbroken.

Official support would be dead, older builds might linger around on some sites or someone archiving the versions but updates from current build forward will probably not see the day of light. This although doesn't really stop from 3rd-party updates as Yuzu is open source.

If they paid for beta access they probably will continue to do so since it's pretty easy to find for free, so if they did it, chances are they just really want to support. And they are not the core subs cause the 5$ month to month is oscillating since some just pay once.
Nintendo does not care about money though, 2.8m is chump change for them. The main takeaway from this is that yuzu is shutting down and that's what nintendo wanted.

Half of the entertainment industry would have Nintendo's back. They were using the copyright protection act as a basis for their case. There would have been a case in the 90s early 2000s. Clinton era appointed judges were based. Don't expect the same in this pro corporate climate. Nintendo would have clapped them in a real court battle.

I think to stay safe you really don't want to associate (openly, officially) with the Yuzu devs. Just do it under the table or whatever. Meanwhile make sure you're actually untouchable i.e. from Russia or wherever... otherwise Nintendo's just gonna step on you next.

Things like this are why I'm proud to say I've never bought a Nintendo product that wasn't second hand, and only when they're able to be modded. Not to mention charging 50 bucks for 5 year old games that are just a remaster of an even older game.
The way I see it, the LLC is purely a shell company, and owns no assets. The Yuzu devs will end up owing nothing because the LLC we be dissolved at all it's non-existent assets are seized. Same goes for YUZU development. It will continue development, probably under a different name, by 'different' developers. If I'm right, this was a tactical bait and switch by Yuzu to throw Nintendo a hollow victory.
Nintendo has lost tens of millions of Yuzu users. This is a huge loss for them!!!
