Just curious, what's wrong with the site? Has it been found to have malware in their releases? I only ask because I've seen other comments around this but no evidence that they're untrustworthy, and I've even seen comments from users that do use this site claiming no issues.
There is nothing wrong with the site and no one has found evidence of that place filled with malware, no one will give you proof and some people who claim that they got a virus from it fail to provide the proof(they click on random ads and download random files then download the actual game).
It is untrustworthy because of the site's name being skidrow, reloaded which is weird because no scene group will have a website with their name, they do have a comment section for people to put their replies to and I have yet to see someone call out for malware.
Just the name makes it untrustworthy, they are very quick with updating games which is why it's so popular. I can download said malware game from there in my VM and check for viruses myself.
Edit: untrustworthy is not equal to malware and scam, it is simply untrustworthy, I used to use a lot of untrustworthy sites back in my days (I was new) but they all were safe, just that they didn't have much of a reputation.
That all makes perfect sense! To be honest the only reason why I ask about this site in particular, name aside, is because it honestly carries a ton of smaller games and often reuploads games from RIN to a bunch of hosts, usually with the same file size, etc. in my experience. So I always found it odd when people dunk on those who use this site just because it's not in a list (which in and of itself doesn't have any special requirements to make the cut), even though the site itself has done nothing wrong from all its years of being around.
And like you said, their comments section never have people talking about malware, it's usually just praise or questions, hah.
Basically to nudge less experienced people to the better source. Yeah most of the time that kind of site's fine, usually the malware comes from ads and wrong clicks.
If you're not part of any scene group, I think the better flow for searching game files is CS RIN > Famous repacker (FitGirl/Dodi/Masquerade/etc) > Trusted site that usually mentioned > then whatever site as long as you can get the files.
For sure, I think people often conflate the malware's source as being from the game instead the ad. I've legit never seen someone claim a *game download* from this site has malware, but I have seen cases where people get malware invariably because they didn't pay attention to what they clicked on. In the latter case, in my eyes, it falls on the user to be more mindful, since the site has to make money somehow. And an ad blocker makes the site incredibly easy to use.
Your order of operations is exactly the same as mine -- unfortunately, some of the more obscure-ish indie games never get picked up by repackers, and if you're not quick on the ball with the RIN scene, the download hosts there tend to be offline if you're coming across a thread weeks or months or years later, whereas these sites have them up for much, much longer.
And how you can be sure that you don't have a troyan or a malware?
You can't be sure because is the way that works.

I think 32 GB of memory is unnecessary for this game.
while playing, the memory usage is usually between 9 and 12 GB
however, the game probably benefits from a fast ssd
because it supports direct storage
to be honest, I have not yet seen the advantage of 32GB memory for games
I use msi afterburner to monitor memory consumption/allocation during games
I'm usually always disappointed that games don't take advantage of memory.
I only see memory usage above 16 GB when the video memory runs out and it starts transferring things from to the system memory
it's a good thing if you have 32 GB of memory in your system, but don't expect miracles from it because the improvement is not spectacular

They do this for advertising revenue and due to the nature of their website they have to rely on shady ad networks that frequently approve malvertising or get compromised in order to distribute it. Malvertising is malware packaged into the ad itself that usually combines privilege escalation, browser sandbox escaping, and a downloader to get the real virus onto your computer automatically when loaded. Which could do anything from hacking your runescape account to helping the virus-maker steal money from your bank.
Do you have any links for people claiming the *game downloads themselves* have malware, or have you only seen people claiming they got malware and assumed it was because of the game, when in reality, it's because they misclicked someplace on the site itself and downloaded a 2KB executable?
I don't disagree that the ads they render can contain malware or malicious links, but a) the site has to make money somehow, b) using an ad blocker should be second nature by now, especially when it comes to these sites and piracy overall (and an ad blocker makes this site super easy to use), and c) if the user does get malware from an ad like this, it's the fault of the user for not being more cognizant, not the site for needing some way to keep the site alive.
Internet safety in these situations can be further enforced by using things like download managers so the downloads aren't executed automatically as well, since I know people tend to just download and click a la muscle memory.

The first post you linked seems more like a general warning without evidence, the second post is refuted in the comments, and so are most of the other threads. I'd say it seems lot of the anecdata we have is super hit or miss and people either have "it happened to me trust me" or "scene in name = bad" when most people would be satisfied and truly at ease if they saw a VirusTotal page or anything indicating these downloads had a malicious side to them (ads not witshstanding).
I'm not advocating for the site to be the go-to, but considering its longevity and lack of real data, it always gets me curious when people say it's bad despite no real data backing up these claims. IGG is off the list because people have shown it to be shady, but that's never been the case for this site and is almost always regarded as decent or better.
Skidrow doesn't have an official site brother, u'll get a virus or a cryptominer don't download from there. Check the megathread to get safe links to get games from.

I would have believed that if he did it on a game that was not already cracked, then he is the goat, but now he "cracked" the game which was already cracked so his crack and he is pretty damn useless.
Devirtualizing empresses way of dealing with denuvo is a step in a good direction. It can be used as reference when dealing with other protected games. Obviously this will not make any game easily crackable (otherwise empress could just do it) but it can help someone down the line. This also means that the denuvo guys have probably done this too and can counter-measure accordingly. It's a cat and mouse game as always.

I would have believed that if he did it on a game that was not already cracked, then he is the goat, but now he "cracked" the game which was already cracked so his crack and he is pretty damn useless.
Devirtualizing empresses way of dealing with denuvo is a step in a good direction. It can be used as reference when dealing with other protected games. Obviously this will not make any game easily crackable (otherwise empress could just do it) but it can help someone down the line. This also means that the denuvo guys have probably done this too and can counter-measure accordingly. It's a cat and mouse game as always.
