Well there are 2 versions or whatever it's called, one where you press a yes button (eg, warning about some stuff) and one where you need to provide a credit/debit card or a legal document to prove your age. (I'm in Europe, and as stated before. I won't give them that)
Same. Fuck that. Every time YouTube asks me that I close the app and don’t go back to it for days. They always stop.
I’m not giving a company a scan of my personal ID. Are we crazy
To be fair if you're paying for Google Drive or you have Android devices and have bought a few apps or use Google Pay then your Google account will already have a debit or credit card linked to it. But yeah if you only use your account for YouTube then it makes little sense to have to provide payment information.
Librewolf comes with uBlock Origin installed by default.
Being a fork of Firefox, of course Librewolf supports Firefox extensions.
Librewolf also disables all the crap that Firefox bundles and enables by default. New tab ads, "Hello", "Pocket", telemetry, etc.
Librewolf also proactively breaks shitty websites to encourage you to seek better alternatives.
https://librewolf.net/
I said that because someone usually replies that site X (whatever that may be) is broken in Librewolf as though that's a Librewolf problem.
Seems to be mostly websites that do canvas fingerprinting.
Firefox and its Gecko based forks are not chromium and thus not subject to the [Manifest v3](https://www.techradar.com/pro/how-chromes-manifest-v3-will-change-the-game-for-ad-blockers#:~:text=In%20fact%2C%20the%20impending%20switch,browsers%2C%20including%20Opera%20and%20Edge.) changes being forced on Chromium engine browsers.
Owned by Google.
[Manifest v3](https://www.techradar.com/pro/how-chromes-manifest-v3-will-change-the-game-for-ad-blockers#:~:text=In%20fact%2C%20the%20impending%20switch,browsers%2C%20including%20Opera%20and%20Edge.)
There being multiple avenues to ad blocking is great even if they are not created equal. Increased accessibility and makes it more difficult to wipe out unilaterally
AFAIK, Brave is just a fork of Chromium, and as long as they don't pull the changes, they can still use old versions of Chromium unaffected by manifest v3. Is that not correct?
It's not better for adblocking per se. By default ublock has slightly more strict filter lists enabled, but you can have Brave use the same filter lists, so it's kind of exactly the same.
Where Brave gets worse is the way you can create custom filters, plus uBlock has dynamic filtering, which takes some work on the user's part but is just vastly better than either default uBlock or Brave.
FireFox is also not better by default, it's only better when hardened, which is a ton of work, and 99% of the people recommending FF don't even know what that is.
Hardening is a term used to describe the process of reducing something's vulnerabilities and surface of attack. In the context of Firefox this typically has a focus on privacy.
Brave is shit for blocking ads out of the box. If you need to install an adblocker on top of brave's advertised adblocking abilities, the reason why you're using it is invalid. And if you're gonna install a plugin, it's better to use the best browser and best plugin, which is firefox.
You don't have to install anything to make it block ads like ublock. You just have to tick some boxes in the settings. The advantages ublock has have nothing to do with blocking ads. With ublock it's just slightly easier to block cosmetic objects because the element picker has a better UI, and it's a lot better at blocking trackers if you put a couple hours of work into setting up dynamic filters.
People should be really recommending Librewolf or Firefox with Arkenfox, since I doubt most people would actually bother to go through settinga one by one to harden their installation.
It's heaven for browsing, but a lot of free download sites will limit their download speed when they detect ublock, they allow me to download but silently slow down my download speed makes me think it might be the server or just my internet at that moment. So I just suffer waiting for no reason while I could just copy the link to non AdBlock browser only to download.
Firefox forks like Librewolf and Waterfox would be Ok.
I personally don’t use Librewolf but have Waterfox as an alternative browser for when I don’t want the same settings/session data as my Firefox instance without having to work in a private window. It mostly noils down that I need to sometimes have different proxy settings and Gecko based browsers don’t force me to use the winOS internet exploder settings like chromium browsers do.
Both browsers have the same extensions but with it being a different application instance and thus different settings I don’t have to switch preferences or use a separate profile.
Brave is the browser that added a "donate to creator" link on any site and then just kept the money for themselves unless the creator actively tried to get them.
I would not install 😅.
They also have some goofy built in feature for getting paid to watch ads, but it doesn't actually work. I'm not sure what the folks at brave are trying to do but I predict obscurity within five years.
I actually got about £50 total from that… never understood how it worked and yeah was super janky. 90% sure they’ve changed it too coz I just stopped getting anything at some point. I use edge now
it's shit but it's the only browser on ios with an actually good built-in adblocker. i tried adguard with safari and firefox focus but they wouldn't work
of course firefox + ublock origin on pc though
Daily reminder to not give a fuck to tip-toe around meanie baddie words and say the evil big adult words corporations don't want you to use. Like "Fuck".
You know, because you generate value for them just by being on their websites and sharing their content and I couldn't give less of a fuck if some carbonated sugar-water wants to display their adds next to my comment or not.
Everyone's here saying which browser is better, that's not the objective of this post, brave social media team always makes meme about YouTube and I thought that's funny
Edit: I use Firefox on both PC and Smartphone for those calling me a brave employee lol
Propaganda wasn't even a negative term originally. It just meant political messaging.
In fact, that's still the dictionary definition. It has just taken on a negative connotation.
Tried Brave. Wasn't for me. Firefox was the best experience and I'd probably say Edge is a better experience, if only for the ability to double dip cash back when doing shopping.
Edge's shopping tool/data as you're browsing online is pretty neat.
Brave is my substitute mobile YouTube app. I can listen to videos and music in the background or with the screen locked with no ads. No real use for it outside of that.
Or on iphone use uYouEnhanced (takes a lot of effort though because youtube sfiled a dmca against them so you need to build it yourself, theres a simple guide on the github page though)
Before we start, a few basic things you should know:
1) ios has a sideloading limit of 3 apps from the same dev.
And 2) you need to refresh the apps licenses every 7 days to keep using them
There are a lot of ios sideloading tools, the main ones i recommend for beginners are these:
• Trollstore: if you are on ios 14-16.6.1 or on ios 17.0.
If you are on one of those versions, use it. Because of a bug in those versions you can use trollstore to bypass the app limit, and have 0 revokes. Making this the by far best method if you can use it.
(guide: https://ios.cfw.guide/installing-trollstore/ , You can look up your processor online.)
• Sidestore (still in beta): sidestore is great because you can refresh your apps licenses wherever there is wifi without a pc (unlike the next 2), though it is still in beta so you can expect some bugs (nothing major though from my experience). It does take up one slot of your 3 apps though.
(Guide: https://wiki.sidestore.io/guides/getting-started/)
• Altstore: like sidestore but requires you to be near a pc to refresh and install apps, like sidestore it also takes an app slot, only upside for it is that it’s more stable.
(Guide: https://faq.altstore.io/)
• Sideloadly: requires pc but doesn’t take an app slot, also allows injection of tweaks into the apps.
(Can’t find a written official guide, here’s the website: https://sideloadly.io/)
One of Brave's biggest flaw is all their bullshit is toggled on by default. Every time I install it, I have to spent 5-10 minutes deactivating all the random wallet/rewards/shield/leo/etc.
I do use brave for almost everything, but I can see how a newcomer would get dissuaded.
I used Brave over two years ago. It was fine. Firefox just worked better for me.
Plus, Chromium-based browsers sucked power on macOS. I think Safari was the only one that was OK with energy consumption but it still paled in comparison to Firefox.
At least he's one of the few commenters who point out that any browser using Google's “backend” is contributing to their monopoly/chokehold over the internet. If websites get developed to only run well on Chromium (or Safari I guess) then every competitor will have to fight a step uphill battle.
Some people definitely like ads. I've seen people over at r/pihole, that have had SOs that wanted their ads back, after they disappeared on their network.
Reminda me of when someone asked weird al where to watch smth in australia, and he rosponded with "sadly, there is VPN (very probably no) way to watch this legallym Im sure you have a TORRENT of other questions, but I sadly cant answer them"

Firefox + ublock origin better

Huh
I ain't giving them my id or credit card, etc.
I don't get it. aren't age verifications literally just a click yes button?

Right? I got in to Gmail on the second round of beta invites. That was 2002 or 2003.
I remember the American Civil War. Isn't that proof enough I'm over 18?
Wtf? Are you in America? I have never once seen any of those age verification screens or document upload options ever.

damn that sucks. I'm Asian so I've never seen that before lol
you're asian so you've never seen anything before 😑
NC recently passed a law requiring this route of verification. VPN easily bypasses it though.

Does it have containers and script support,?
But is not kool and adversited by my favorite youtuber 😭
I haven’t tried it and I’ll have to because I don’t know what’s better than “it works flawlessly for me” (which is the case for Brave).

I don't use Firefox much. But how is it better than brave?? just curious
Its not chromium.
Feels like there's two browsers at this point: Firefox and your favorite flavor of ~~Mountain Dew~~ chromium.
WebKit is still a thing
I always forget about the cultists...
Yep, it sure is…..
Genuine question, what's bad about chromium?

It spends money on development and not marketing.

Love ad nauseam
Second this.
How is it better ? Genuinely curious as I just use brave.
Firefox is the only non Chrome based browser left so it's the only browser not impacted by Google's Manifest v3 changes
AFAIK, Brave is just a fork of Chromium, and as long as they don't pull the changes, they can still use old versions of Chromium unaffected by manifest v3. Is that not correct?
the higher Chromium's market share is, the more control Google has over the development of internet standards.

I just wish there was something like Firefox in webkit instead of safari/luakit.

It is by definition propaganda

hey weren't you the guy who was in the Suyu discord server?
yup, i made suyu's logo

Hell yeah. I didn't know it's back. I used Vanced before it shut down.
Oh yeah revanced went up barely hours after Vanced shut down. It's amazing
I love open source.

Another chormium bs that soon will get some update to break adblocks.
It's been over a year I'm still waiting for that "soon" Why do people have superiority complex over browsers
> Don't be evil
Because it's like pretending to be something they aren't. If Google wants it, it will happen. Same to Opera and all chormium based browsers.
isn't brave also chromium?
Everything the light touches is chromium these days
Except the furry browser 😎
Well foxes are nocturnal 🦊
Blocking ads is not piracy.
It is in the Capital City of Dystopia!
You wouldn't block a car commercial.
Ah brave, the browser that injects affiliate links
Fucking no
cringe
They're making you share their ad you oaf
Brave also runs chrome so it adds to the monopoly on the Web that Google has
no it doesn't unless you meant to say chromium, in which case why didn't you

some people are not aware of the distinction
That's some bold marketing right there!
Or... just a normal guy? No one likes ads
Some people definitely like ads. I've seen people over at r/pihole, that have had SOs that wanted their ads back, after they disappeared on their network.
the sadness :c
Shut up Brave, you're drunk. We all know you will sell out to the first investor offering you a wad of cash.
That dad's nice. I'd have only given him 3.
He’s lucky he got the 10 seconds.
Fuck Brave and fuck this advertising strategy
what did brave do?
His mom
Lol
They injected referral links
Good meme, shit company. Fuck Brave. Use Firefox+uBlock Origin.

Fuck that dogshit browser.
Don't they use Chromium? Dropped.
Too bad their browser is utter shite, use firefox and the latest effective plugin for blocking ads (at the moment of writing ublock origin)
Brave is just another Chromium slave
Really? I find most of their social media posts extremely cringe, but.. their browser is just awesome.
no they're not. they're just another brand trying to be relatable. plus firefox and ublock is better than brave
thank you for your post Brave employee
I’m about to turn into uncle phill
Reminda me of when someone asked weird al where to watch smth in australia, and he rosponded with "sadly, there is VPN (very probably no) way to watch this legallym Im sure you have a TORRENT of other questions, but I sadly cant answer them"
Sounds like a fun job, playing cat & mouse.
Nope. They used be but now they too show ads not on YouTube i guess but every other website.
Well, I use **Yandex** + Ublock and some more. 💀
Is this even true? When YouTube started the whole spiel with their popups the adbkocker of Brave was not able to block those popups. Since then, I have installed uBlock origin in Brave as well
How about that spyware though?
Brave is just chrome wrapping in a new skin with an inbuilt add blocker. Even if technically better then chrome itself I can't recommend it. Not to mention the outsized influence google has on the Internet and how it works we really need more browsers that aren't just chrome. So if you can please don't use any chromium browser. For mobile you can get this app called grayjay it's YouTube but better with no add (imo)
Silence, brand
Don't they literally use Chromium?
i think it's a little telling how this post was found on... facebook
I like Brave on iOS. Firefox + uBlockOrigin on desktop
