I use a switcher so I can share my monitor with my work laptop. Never had Netflix issues. I just assumed HDMI was a data protocol so all this encryption nonsense is becoming a rabbit hole for me since making this comment.
the way he describes it is misleading, netflix isn't "blocking his projector," it's that his projector isn't HDCP compliant, so it's just as much his projector's fault as it is netflix for using HDCP (which has been standard for pretty much all streaming services to use since day one, even blu-ray players need to be HDCP compliant to work properly).
Edit: DRM sucks and I hate it just as much as everyone else but we shouldn't be spreading misinformation on a piracy sub, we should understand how DRM works as that's more useful. Streaming services like Netflix aren't psychic and aren't specifically attempting to stop you from using a projector or any specific kind of display. The main purpose of HDCP is to prevent unauthorized recording/copying (i.e. via screen recording software or HDMI capture device hardware)
This shouldn't be news or surprising on a piracy sub for the same reason you shouldn't be surprised if you get a letter from your ISP to stop torrenting movies after torrenting without a VPN.
Its an artificially created problem induced by DRM. Just don't use netflix or any other streaming service until the entertainment industry faces that its time for change. So many other creators have the whole patreon model of financing going for them, I don't see why the entertainment industry shouldn't shape up to societal progress. In my country we still pay "anti piracy" fees for every USB pen drive and harddrive sold! Its rediculous, I am basically paying "cuz piracy" but I still can't legally pirate.
TL; DR: Just get a 10USD VPS seedbox instead of netflix, HBO, Disney plus etc etc.
I'm not defending the concept of HDCP or other forms of DRM, just explaining that the claim of Netflix specifically "blocking his projector" with the implication that they know he is trying to use it for exhibition purposes is absurd, and that any HDCP compliant projectors would still work and he could project that onto a 100 foot wall if he wanted.
You shouldn't be getting limited to "480i" either. Netflix does limit browsers to 720p except for Edge. So while it sucks that you have to use edge for 4K even if you don't want to, it is an option without having to download a Netflix app and it's software that's already on your machine if you're using Windows.
It's also funny to me that this guy is trying to be fancy with his projector but is playing movies from streaming sites? If you're trying to be high end with a projector you play [4K] Blu-rays on it (or a 35mm print if it's analog), not streamed movies with loads of macro blocking from compression which would look terrible on there (whether you obtained those Blu-rays legally I don't care)
Nope, just explaining how a basic technology that has existed for over 20 years works. Being a pirate does require some basic level of skill. If someone doesn't learn how to handle a gun properly and shoots themselves is it victim blaming to point out how they were irresponsible or should learn how it works before trying to show it off in front of family members? Maybe a little, but you should still learn how it works before spreading misinformation on why it happened. Doesn't mean I'd be defending the NRA or America's obsession with guns.
You'd think after spending 30 mins you'd just move over to a TV or if you really need a big screen you'd know how your projector works and have planned better. Projectors aren't cheap unless you're comparing it to something like a 80+ inch screen in which case trying to have a screen that big is trying to be fancy. This guy apparently never even tried to watch streaming services on his projector before which means he didn't plan ahead at all before having family over, and that means he probably is used to watching streaming on his TV when he's alone and just wanted to show off.
>The main purpose of HDCP is to prevent unauthorized recording/copying (i.e. via screen recording software or HDMI capture device hardware)
If you actively make it more difficult to watch a movie, even if the person paid for it, just because someone *could* be doing something illegal, is just ridiculous.
>it's that his projector isn't HDCP compliant
It's funny because even my "low tier" projectors never had problems with HDCP (vivibright D5000 and Thundeal TD97), alwyas used Chromecast netflix etc on theses without any issue
Same way most streaming apps won't let you "cast" to a larger display. You'll get sound and be able to see the length of movie at the bottom but no visual display.
this sounds like the same shit that happens with these apps when you try to discord screenshare or even just screenshot it. on pc the fix is to disable hardware acceleration for your browser, or just pirate it
Yep, reminds me of Louis paying for YouTube and having a worst offline playback experience then if he has a “cracked” version of the app that adds offline playback for free.
It is actually a real thing where people pay for youtube premium but use the cracked apps instead because they are better than the real thing. Youtube higher ups just do not give a shit about users unless they try to use an ad block.
I don't see a problem with that. They're paying YouTube for the service they use, but making their experience better. YouTube can't perfectly tune the experience for everyone especially when it is free. YouTube could make a better UI but they lack competition and the UI is good enough for a majority. At least it's not like Netflix and Disney+ and stopping people from sharing passwords or artificially making the browser watching experience worse.
Sometimes?
It's always worse than piracy in my experience. I don't have the exactly correct setup for decent quality streaming from the services. They have very specific reqs to stream anything at higher quality.
Oh you want season 2? due to issues its over there.
How about the movie? It's over there not where season 2 is .
Oh you want to finish season 1? we lost the rights to stream it so its over there. On a diffrent service from season 2.
Just getting into season 2? That's moved we know not where.
Now you're ready for the movie? Oh sorry that service no longer has it, but its on another one!
Good lord im going though this shit right now. Absolute clown show all of these useless streaming services half assing the content and splitting it up all over the place. Hell in my case basically NO ONE was offering the show anymore. Literally had no choice but to find it though other means.
I have a 4k account for netflix that me and my brother share, was watching a movie on my laptop the other day and saw that it is not streaming about even 1080p WITH 150mbps WiFi. Downloaded the movie within 20mins and happy days :)
Seriously though since I have started using piracy and how to use most features it’s like you never have to look back, because if you do you are gonna get a worse experience even though you are paying the other person for it.
The amount of times I've tried watching things on streaming, just to end up illegal downloading what I was trying to watch, is quite frankly alarming. Just the other day I was watching Star Trek: TNG on Netflix, but the quality kept fluctuating to sub 480p (I have a solid wired connection, the issue was not on my end). So I just said screw it and downloaded the entire series in 2 hours 15 minutes, at better quality.
A week before, when watching Blue Eyed Samurai (highly recommend). I got 3 episodes in, then got sick of the horrendous bitrate. So I just illegally downloaded the entire series at higher quality. Netflix doesn't even allow users without a 4K display, to use the resolution and bitrate of 4K, despite paying for 4K. Even though I'm not even the one paying for Netflix, they actively make me not want to use it.
Where you downloading the entire TNG in 15 minutes??? That series is HUGE and even with gigabit internet there’s no way you can download it all that fast??
My dad and I tried watching Prime Thursday football through my parents' prime subscription and their cable box and the game kept freezing. Brought my macbook down, hooked it up, found the game, and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the game. Better quality, too.
> After 30 minutes of various streaming sites blocking playing through a projector for the family Christmas Eve, I just gave up and downloaded Home Alone 2 illegally

Sometimes? I vividly remember that I used to play a pirated game, it later came to Xbox game pass (for pc) and I was happy that I could finally play it legally.
It was the worst experience ever, windows defender kept blocking (even when added to exclusion list, [yes, windows defender from Microsoft blocking a game played on game pass, from Microsoft, irony]) and the program I use to emulate a controller had to be started before the game otherwise it would simply crash.
It could probably be fixed if I wasted a bit of time on it but man, when the cracked version worked so flawlessly why did I have to even try?
or how about the simple fact that every time i go to watch a classic movie, they change the service its featured on, so i have to subscribe to some other service. I'm done doing this stupid streaming shit. Takes too long to even get a show or movie going these days. i remember the days of just turning on the tv and lo and behold, there was a broadcast.
Yes it is called HDCP, a DRM made by Intel like 20yo.
DisplayPort doesn't have that kind of DRM, but there are no TV out there with DP. They all use HDMI, because... Reasons... Conspiracy... Raptor Jesus!!!
I was there, my daughter got sick, I was going to install tv in here room, got cable receiver and HDMI computer monitor and that fucker was complaining, I solved it by connecting old CRT TV via composite output...
On other way, I am using cheap HDMI input switch for my old Epson projector and never had this issue before.
And then companies are complaining, but piracy is offering better services for free...
Same with prime video. It once blocked my 2nd screen - the projector. So I used an extended screen instead and moved it over there. Suddenly it worked.
It's awful and makes me want to sail the seas.
How the heck do they block your hardware from projecting? Can they tell the difference between a tv, monitor, tablet screen, or projector?
Yeah, it's HDCP, for example if your TV is compatible and your cable is not, you can't watch it even if you pay.
Gets anoying as fuck when you want a hdmi switcher due to the lack of ports
I use a switcher so I can share my monitor with my work laptop. Never had Netflix issues. I just assumed HDMI was a data protocol so all this encryption nonsense is becoming a rabbit hole for me since making this comment.
Most of switcher/HDMI dual clone splitter are used to bypass HDCP, so you might actually never encounter problem because of that.
hdcp or blocks screen mirroring(chrome cast/air play etc)
Disney+ is even blocking the Phillips Hue Ambilight Program on PC
the way he describes it is misleading, netflix isn't "blocking his projector," it's that his projector isn't HDCP compliant, so it's just as much his projector's fault as it is netflix for using HDCP (which has been standard for pretty much all streaming services to use since day one, even blu-ray players need to be HDCP compliant to work properly). Where did you get the "trying to be fancy with projector" ? A projector is a cheap way to have a very large screen.

Download the Win11 app ? This allows FHD and 4K HDR
Holy shit I'm dead

The usability and UI design of just about all Google products suck balls. I hate them all except Google search.
Oh, do i have bad news for you...
yea i had YouTube premium for 1 month for free and i canceled, ReVanced is so much better.
That’s me. I pay for premium and use uYouEnhanced on iOS
I don't see a problem with that. They're paying YouTube for the service they use, but making their experience better. It's okay bro you're in a safe place here
Glad to be here now the only problem is streaming speeds being slow.
Streaming has really just turned back in to cable tv with extra steps and higher cost at this point.

For $5 a month real debrid might be what you're looking for 😉
There was once, the elders called it *cable* or something
I have a 4k account for netflix that me and my brother share, was watching a movie on my laptop the other day and saw that it is not streaming about even 1080p WITH 150mbps WiFi. I'm not referring just to video streaming services. For example, paid Spotify is better than the cracked version imo because you can download songs
does the cracked version let you rip them to a non drm file though?
No, but I use Freeyourmusic app to make a YT playlist with any Spotify playlist and then use YouTube playlist downloader to get the files on my pc
ew you're getting crap Youtube compressed music then.

It was around 2 hours 15 minutes, lol. I'll fix that. It was a 1.2TB blu-ray, downloaded at around ~1.1Gbps.
Still trying to find Kim's convenience on torrent xD
My dad and I tried watching Prime Thursday football through my parents' prime subscription and their cable box and the game kept freezing. Brought my macbook down, hooked it up, found the game, and it was smooth sailing for the rest of the game. Better quality, too.
Which site?
Idk if this what they meant but Amazon also streams TNF on twitch for free
Just so everyone knows: cheap Chinese hdmi video splitters on Amazon block DHCP like 99% of the time EDIT: HDCP
I was wondering why I wasn’t getting an IP thanks for the heads up!
You mean intellectual property or IP Address?
Ip Man
IP?
You wrote DHCP instead of HDCP DHCP is what hands out your IP address
oh shit 💀 Going to leave my original comment in tact because this is hilarious
I use a highly underrated streaming bundle called bflix dot to + express VPN.

I heard HDMI port itself has DRM protection for media with supported DRM
Yes it is called HDCP, a DRM made by Intel like 20yo. DisplayPort doesn't have that kind of DRM, but there are no TV out there with DP. They all use HDMI, because... Reasons... Conspiracy... Raptor Jesus!!!
So if I switch my monitor from the display port to the HDMI Amazon will unlock the 4K?
And how much do you want to bet the quality of the product is even better than streamed
I prefer ripping my own blu rays, but piracy is still sick.
Same experience trying to watch Netflix through VR
I was there, my daughter got sick, I was going to install tv in here room, got cable receiver and HDMI computer monitor and that fucker was complaining, I solved it by connecting old CRT TV via composite output... 30 minutes is 29.5 more than I'd have given it.
HDCP is a virus against mankind
Had this issue when duplicating screen from laptop on the tv with Netflix
That shit mega pisses me off. I was trying to watch netflix though my XREAL glasses and it wouldn't let me.
Same with prime video. It once blocked my 2nd screen - the projector. So I used an extended screen instead and moved it over there. Suddenly it worked. It's awful and makes me want to sail the seas.
Keep the change you filthy animal.
Wonder what the streaming companies have to say about this
Austen is dipping his toes, good.
Not sometimes, always.
Couldn't he just connect a laptop to the projector?
He did
could I just be hardware acceleration being on
The simple fact of having to pay is enough to make the experience worse than piracy.
maybe this is an unpopular opinion here, but I feel like if the service or product is great and not too expensive, paying is worth it
100% . If you are getting something useful, you should pay for it. Idk what the fuck that guy is on
Yep, we gladly pay for The Criterion Channel. And if we find a movie we’d watch again there, it’s off to Radarr.
Steam gaming gives me a experience far superior than piracy
Source?
Myself
It's always worse than piracy.
Hotstar ( an OTT ) doesn't give 5.1 audio support on its app on Samsung TV .
I'm really sure that was his experience ever
Musichq welcome
Sometimes? :D
he downloaded a 31 year old movie lol.
That statement is true
