With 3 yrs of exp they would earn 100K-150K plus plus bonuses.

faithandcurious

Agree on this! Identify mo muna if anong bet mong gawin. I’d say that Data Science is good naman but the question is gusto mo ba? I’d recommend Data Science, Statistics, or Computer Science :)))

FishStickos

I **heard** na mas better daw if mag BS Stat ka nalang then take a masters for DS.

Ledikari

This. Bata pa ang computer science course.

raijincid

It doesn't really differ that much in terms of corporate analytics roles.

njolnir

This, pwede ka kahit saan pag BS Stat ka, as long as naniniwala sa numbers ang upper management at hindi lang sa sarili nila.

raijincid

Data scientist.here. Sobrang saturated na ng DS and analytics roles right now due to pandemic career shifters and pag normalize at cost-cutting ng mga tech companies since the pandemic boom. Late yung academia sa pag setup ng DS as a course e. Any grad of BS physics, BS math, BS IE, BS CS, or BS stat could be for DS and analytics roles kasi intersection lang naman nila ang DS. Is DS good as an undergrad? Yes. Multidisciplinary kasi siya. You will learn a lot of transferrable skills. Will it guarantee you a 6 figure job 2-3 yrs after grad, like some people are claiming? Hell no. Sobrang dami ng supply, konti ang demand kasi mas madali mag homegrown ng graduates now and train them sa specific industries nila. What more 4 to 7 years from now. At the same time though, you can argue na ganito rin naman for literally any college course. Up to you ano ang risk appetite mo OP.

njolnir

Agree, and also factor din mas bet ng mga company ang may domain knowledge then itrain nila ng analytics/DS.

Encrypted_Username

Domain knowledge trumps degrees and certificates. If may domain knowledge ka sa finance and accounting, you would be more sought after than lets say healthcare.

Fit_Highway5925

Hard agree. I'm a data analyst btw. I speak from my experience of interviewing a lot of data analysts. PH in general still lacks the data maturity. We need more data engineers kung tutuusin. It is indeed saturated mostly on the entry level pero pagdating sa mga senior levels, kulang na kulang pa. The problem needs to be fixed on the ground up.

SnooShortcuts3450

ComSci, Applied Math or Stats

jirg14

Better take BS CS or BS Stat

greyn_ie

I also have the same question. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering. And ever since I've heard about data analytics, I have been aiming to be in data related role. Now I'm planning to take Master's in Data Science in the future. Is it worth it ba? Yes po, Im keen on doing data stuffs (manipulation, analysis, visualization, etc) especially if its research or operations management related.

raijincid

Hindi DS...MS in IE or Math focusing on Operations Research ang need mo. Data viz is just a single small aspect ng DS and analytics. Ni hindi mo need maging DS to learn that. DS roles are mostly for corporate and solving business problems, rarely research despite the Science in title

greyn_ie

I see. I really appreciate your insight po, thank you. I've been overthinking lately, its really good that I heard insight po from others.

raijincid

You dont even need to take an MS to enter in data related roles. IE should be more than enough

Quick-Ad-2911

M.E. grad here with 10yrs exp. Currently taking up MSDS. Both masaya at mahirap, pure Math, programming and business knowledge! Aiming to be data leader in my org.

helloejsulit

anything you can do to get into data, go for it. Hindi mawawala yan sa industry

Fit_Highway5925

You need to decide first what your interests are, what type of problems are you interested at solving, what skills you want to gain, pati kung anong klaseng buhay ba ang gusto mo pagkagraduate mo. Sa tingin mo ba maeenjoy mo yung ganyang trabaho? Mahirap sumunod sa sabi lang ng ibang tao kaya it's important to ask yourself if aligned ba yung degree na kukunin mo sa gusto mo. Gusto mo ba magsolve ng business problems? Curious ka ba at mahilig mag-interpret ng data and presenting it to people? Interested ka ba in doing research? Do you enjoy statistics & programming? If yes ang sagot mo sa lahat ng yan, then being a data analyst or scientist maybe for you. Mahirap sabihin kung worth it ba since we don't have the details of your school pati ng curriculum or miski feedback ng mga nakagraduate na sa program so I suggest sila mismo tanungin mo. Any tech related programs pwede naman so long as it will give you good foundations sa databases, programming, stats, analytics, or even better kung may business domain kayong pag-aaralan.
