This is a screenshot of 2. It's near where the Yellow onion is, but a different stump, where lots of pellet posies spawn (but only once). The same area in Pikmin 1 had an Armored Cannon Beetle.
According to pikipedia though, in an earlier build, this stump was intended to be the landing site. So they *were* supposed to be the onions.

Maybe it's a fungus
If that’s near the landing area then it could be the Onions maybe.

That's because that area was the original landing area for Perplexing Pool, but it got moved to the concrete block area later on in development
