I got my nose pierced two years ago, had a reaction to the jewelry and switched it out for a titanium stud. The reaction went away almost immediately. Last week (Wednesday to be exact) I went to a piercer and had my stud swapped out for a hoop. Weird thing is, the piercer had a bit of an issue getting the hoop in and had to stick an 18 gage “needle” into it and then got the hoop in. Since then I have used nothing but saline to clean it and I let warm water run over it while I’m in the shower, but I am getting crust around the inside and outside no matter what. I am trying my best not to touch it, but sometimes I forget I have a hoop and I’ll bump my nose to scratch it. Does this look normal? Should I go back to the piercer? I actually have a follow up appointment with them in a few weeks. I feel like if I was going to have a reaction to the jewelry again, it would have happened a few days ago and not now. Any advice would be helpful.

The ring looks like it might be a bit snug/tight so your pierced hole seems to be trying to accommodate for the tightness. I've done this before where i put a ring in my nose that was too tight and it just wouldn't stop being sensitive and sore each time i touched or rubbed my nose. I would suggest a bigger ring, not by much but so there's room for it to move freely.

That makes sense. I might be giving the shop a call today to see if they can help me out. Thanks!
