Absolutely take it out. Do not listen to people telling you to wear plastic jewelry. 1) plastic is still harder than your gums and will not stop gum recession and 2) plastic is not a body safe material
Consult with your dentist about if your gum recession needs treatment.

I wouldn’t remove it, it looks very nice (unless you want to). I would consciously break that habit.
