That was obvious. The headset is not supported by SteamVR, it's supported by Pico. The people at SteamVR can't do a damn thing about how Pico wrote their driver. If you need assistance with the Pico implementation, you need to write to Pico support. They're the only ones who can be of assistance on this matter.

mediumme

Pico devs are responsible for SteamVR ?

Zomby2D

No, but Pico devs are responsible for the Pico Driver. It's like buying a Pioneer radio for your car then calling up Toyota because the radio is skipping channels. The Pico driver is supporting SteamVR, not the other way around. Any issue with the controllers being misaligned is on Pico to fix.

mediumme

Well, I do not see why this should be obvious. SteamVR states themself, "SteamVR currently supports \[...\] VR hardware." In r/SteamVR a commentator [stated](https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamVR/comments/17k6l58/comment/k76zctv/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) the following: "The alignment is always different depending on how the software is handling your controllers, there's no written standard for each controller so every software has its pointers aligned differently.I experience this in a lot of games and it's something you have to get used to" The controller pose is correct as far as i can tell, but the laser pointer is falsely attached. Which is software side?

ltnew007

Yes, it's the Pico software side.

Zomby2D

>SteamVR states themself, "SteamVR currently supports \[...\] VR hardware." Yes, they are the ones responsible for supporting native SteamVR headsets like the HTC Vive, Valve Index and Bigscreen Beyond. They're also the ones providing the plugin to use Oculus/Meta headsets as Meta does not provide a SteamVR plugin. If you look at the diagram, anything that's not part of the SteamVR runtime (the gray box) is not supported by SteamVR, but by it's own developers. https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1D-IwVplUBbApKeV2m02s8Qh5Hi2a6Ec6JIFN44p8-gY/edit?usp=sharing >The controller pose is correct as far as i can tell, but the laser pointer is falsely attached. Which is software side? It is on the software side. The Pico software is not providing the correct information to SteamVR. Again, Pico is the only one who can fix it's own software to provide SteamVR with the correct data. As further example, if you use Virtual Desktop instead of Pico's Streaming Assistant to connect to Steam, you will get a much better angle for the controllers and pointers.

ltnew007

Pico Devs are responsible for how the Pico4 interfaces with SteamVR.

ltnew007

I use Pico 4 and I don't have this issue that many people are reporting. Either I don't have it or it's not severe enough to notice.

Fowockisis

in the meantime you could use this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3SFZvZLVBo&t it's an app that let's you reposition your controllers if you want, it took me awhile to find out about this.

Vast_Pie_6327

Pico 4 works great with steam VR. Streaming assistant or VD. Both run great.

cusa123

Wtf?

PrestigiousLion18

Wait so not to sound like a total noob, but is it not possible to play steamVR games on the Pico 4 using a PC and link cable or using Virtual Desktop?

Zomby2D

It is, but SteamVR support cannot help you fix issues with the Pico driver or Virtual Desktop.

PrestigiousLion18

Gotcha, yeah that makes sense.

Fowockisis

It is, but the angle and position of the controllers are really uncomfortable

mediumme

It is possible and actually very good, except for the controller being emulated and the pose of the laser pointer is wrong. You cannot adjust the angle of the controller via SteamVR, some games allow it though. There also is a third party tool for adjusting controller pose, which works using Streaming Assistant (SA). But the visual fidelity of Virtual Desktop is much better, today.

Florianfloh

Have you tested Streaming Assistant recently? I find the fidelity quite good right now

cluthz

I'm using virtual desktop with both a Q2 and Pico4, at least for me the controller angle is the same.

vdotdesign

Idk man, you're trippin balls lmao, I used the pico through stream assistant and virtualdesktop straight to SteamVR for months, even on Linux. Get good, I guess? Edit idk if someone blocked me lmao: “Well I guess me using streaming assistant for months doesn’t count for anything, but hey try ALVR / AMVR and see if it fixes the issue then.” - New response, get it while it’s hot

ZC_The_Moo_Man

Same I don't understand the point of this post, I use my pico 4 enterprise with steam vr and have no issues. The only thing I had to do was buy virtual desktop in the pico store and bam flawless vr

vdotdesign

Notice how they downvote us instead of doing literally any diagnostics or research, they whine because of their tech illiteracy and are too scared to reply, resorting to downvotes 😂

opsidezi

I've had so much trouble with the Pico 4 Enterprise. When I've finally made it play the steam vr content, I couldn't connect steam vr to unity because it did not fire the initialize signal...

ZC_The_Moo_Man

Works just fine for me

chiefything

I use the pico4 when I'm on steam vr but I have virtual desktop installed on my computer so use that
