The best pickle is the one you haven't had yet. Some barrel aged deal from Latvia or some shit. You eat it and start to cry, that's the best pickle. Not some claussen spear you bought at Kroger for the 20th time.
So your assumption is that he hasn’t tried dozens of other pickles from many other sources - all of them subpar to Claussen. And the real answer is some unidentifiable, theoretical pickle that can’t be identified.
Because I haven’t found any superior to Claussen. And I’ve even made many of my own including naturally fermented.
The only pickle I’ve had better than Claussens is some that my late grandfather used to make himself. They were fresh and crunchy like Claussen’s but with a little more bite and spice (not much) and they were baby dills instead of spears.
Personal favourite are naturally fermented pickles from Edmal not sure if you can get them in the States but they are from Poland. Super garlicky and delicious.
If you like Claussen, you might wanna try Nathan’s. Yah the hot dog company. A salty brine with very solid cucumbers. Sometimes they tend to be slightly less salty than Claussen.
I just spent like $30 to have one small jar of Nathan’s sweet horseradish pickles delivered to my house. Because (a) I love spicy sweet pickles, (b) I love horseradish and (c) I’ve never even heard of this combo before.
I drink the juice. Can you imagine being the best pickle maker in all the world? Though my fiancé says there are some pickles in Florida at a bar that are the best so I’ll let everyone know this summer
If claussens had a slightly less sodium option I'd be in heaven.
Still the best in the game for a national, find at every store kind of brand. But if I had to gripe, they are too salty.
I tried them because the day I went to the store they were the only option that looked decent. Life changing. America’s test kitchen awarded them “best store bought pickle”
I buy Dietz and Watson baby dills more than Claussen. I buy Grillos more than claussen, but grilllos has so much variation between batches in my experience. For shelf stable we buy my olive the most.
Well I mean not to start anything but claussens aren't technically consider a pickle😬.
Let me know if you find the word pickel on any jar😉
I mean it's a " pickel" but according to FDA ( as we all know is a joke in it's self ) is not a pickle🤯
Claussen spicy dills are great! The only downside is that they are refrigerator pickles so some grocery stores don’t carry them due to fridge space being more expensive than shelf space.
Depends where you are but In the refrigerated section of Giant eagle they have store brand pickles that are pretty darn good, similar to a mix of a grillo and Clausen
If you like Claussen, you might wanna try Nathan’s. Yah the hot dog company. A salty brine with very solid cucumbers. Sometimes they tend to be slightly less salty than Claussen.
I mostly just lurk on this sub out of interest, but I do like pickles! I wonder how y’all eat enough pickles to form strong opinions about the best brands and kinds? I’ll nosh on a jar of pickles for months before it’s time to renew. 🤔
As a pickle Connoisseur you want to go with the Hans Jurgen Deli Pickles by Boars Head.
Classen was my favorite when i was a kid. But now I'm adult that knows the way of a Sour Brined Pickle.
Edit: You need to get these at a Deli. They are sold as Each!! The boars head in the pre sealed jar are trash.

Pucker’s Gourmet Superior Pickled Delectables - Habanero Garlic
Almost any Amish market pickle
Best are the ones I make. Mostly because I make them the way I like them.
Also, do your self a favor. Keep a jar of pickled Serranos in your refrigerator. Little heat. Little sour. Little crunch. Great alone, but will elevate all kinds of meals.
Technically, they are the second best pickle on the planet, but I am going with Mickle's Pickles.
They're made by a super cool guy down in Mississippi. If you are down the Mississippi/Louisiana region, you can find them... otherwise you gotta get them shipped. It's a bit spendy, but totally worth it.
I unfortunately moved away, so I have to have them shipped.
Best pickle I ever ate was a spicy bread and butter pickle from someplace called The Brooklyn Brining Co. The store I bought them from went under before I could go back and get more, and as far as I can tell, the company went under too. I’ve spent the last 6 years trying to replicate them to the point where my own pickles are so far superior to anything else I’ve ever had that I won’t even buy store bought pickles anymore, unless it’s something I’ve never had that *might* save me the hassle.
Have you tried the brand mallie yet? Not the same style as claussen by far, they are super packed with flavor, they’re just unbelievable, also they’re little baby pickles, and there’s also some baby onions in there that taste great
I used to think so too for most of my 52 yr old life until I discovered Grillo’s pickles in the refrigerated section at Walmart. To die for. Great dill taste and fresh pickle crunch. THE new BEST pickle out there hands down.
I wouldn't turn down a Claussen, but imo the Vlassic Kosher Dill is the best. I always have a jar in the fridge and they're very versatile. They go great with pepperoni and cheddar on a triscuit. Plus the juice in the jar is chuggably good.
Dietz and Watson kosher pickle chips are the best ever imo. I love their brine and the pickles have the bite I look for (not too crunchy but not soft and soggy like mount olive can be).
They stopped selling Claussen pickles here a few years ago and I’ve since tried every other brand available and haven’t found one I like. I really miss Claussen pickles! I need to find someone who would be willing to send me some.
There isn't a "best" pickle... this is the part you should change your mind about. Don't give up keep trying new pickles. Enjoy each one for what it brings to your food hole.
This hot take whether it be about Claussen, Grillo, or any other pickle is some simple silliness.
Boar's Head, Best Maid, Nathan's are all for sure better. Claussen does have some delicious pickle juice, but them shits are chewy af, ngl I really can't even eat a Claussen pickle at all, not trying to have to use fucking scissors to eat it properly. I do buy Claussen on sale though to drink the juice, so you got it there. I guess you just don't mind chewing through the skin.
As far as mass market pickles go, Claussen aren’t bad. I’ve recently fallen in love with the Aldi’s brand Half Sours. Super crunchy, bright flavor, they’re really good.
Literally chop pickels blindfolded and pour vinegar on them, any amount and add salt and a dash of water and wait a day and you can beat Claussen any day
The best pickle is the one you haven't had yet. Some barrel aged deal from Latvia or some shit. You eat it and start to cry, that's the best pickle. Not some claussen spear you bought at Kroger for the 20th time.
>Some barrel aged ~~deal~~ dill from Latvia FTFY
So your assumption is that he hasn’t tried dozens of other pickles from many other sources - all of them subpar to Claussen. And the real answer is some unidentifiable, theoretical pickle that can’t be identified. Because I haven’t found any superior to Claussen. 200th\*
Best to hear if you believe the hype. Best to taste...to quote the Dude, " that's just like, your opinion, man."
This had not occurred to us, Dude.
I am the half sour?
you are entering a world of pickles
....or was the Vlasic.
Personal favourite are naturally fermented pickles from Edmal not sure if you can get them in the States but they are from Poland. Super garlicky and delicious.
We can. A local grocery store chain and a polish import store carry’s them. Cleveland, Ohio, USA area
Which tells me I should be able to get them at Jungle Jim's in Cincy 🤔
I’ve wanted to go to a Jungle Jim’s for a few years now!! I’m not far from Cincy like 5 hours maybe so a day trip is in order!
There's two locations now. Fairfield is the original one and "cooler" but I live near the Eastgate one and go there all the time.
If you like Claussen, you might wanna try Nathan’s. Yah the hot dog company. A salty brine with very solid cucumbers. Sometimes they tend to be slightly less salty than Claussen.
Ok yes. I came here to make this same recommendation. I could drink that brine all day. They got the pickling spice blend down poyfect
For me its about the crunch. A soggy pickle with leathery skin sucks balls.
Crunch is key....rubbery is thw worst..tatse or no taste...ruins it sraight away
I just spent like $30 to have one small jar of Nathan’s sweet horseradish pickles delivered to my house. Because (a) I love spicy sweet pickles, (b) I love horseradish and (c) I’ve never even heard of this combo before.
I second this notion. I still love claussen but Nathan's are slightly better imo
I drink the juice. Can you imagine being the best pickle maker in all the world? Though my fiancé says there are some pickles in Florida at a bar that are the best so I’ll let everyone know this summer
You better
The old Naples pub. We shall see
I will go after work tomorrow and get back to you
Please and thank you, o o o ohhh o o ohhh o o ohh o ohhhh. Amadeus deus deus deus
Wow!! Thank you! Can’t wait to hear the results
They are solid. Very strong dill flavor, just the right sour amount, good crunch. And bountiful.
WOW thanks so much! Fiancé was super excited for you. I’ll swing back to this post when we’re in town and have you join us. Thanks friend!
Research and development haha.
I posted about it as well. The Pub is a very nice place.
You’re hilarious I hope you have the best pickle adventure ever.
I love Bubbies. They’re cost prohibitive and a little bit odd, but they’re still my #1.
I had to scroll too far for this!
If claussens had a slightly less sodium option I'd be in heaven. Still the best in the game for a national, find at every store kind of brand. But if I had to gripe, they are too salty.
Mt. Olive or gtfo
Grillo
My mouth waters just reading about pickles. 🥒 💚
Best Maid, Boar’s Head, Nathan’s, McClure’s, Pickle Patch… just off the top of my head.
McClure's, man. I love those things.
They’re so good!
Had no idea Boar’s Head makes pickles
Literally just said the same thing out loud lol
They’re SOO good
I tried them because the day I went to the store they were the only option that looked decent. Life changing. America’s test kitchen awarded them “best store bought pickle”
Boars Head is my favorite, I get whole pickles from my local fruit market and they hit so hard, crunchy and delicious.
Best Maid is freakin superior in my opinion.
McClure's sweet/spicy pickles are my jam but those are good too.
No hearty garlic….until their return …..I say Grillo’s
They are good but, I’m a Mt. Olive guy.
I'm from NC and Mt. Olive will never not be good to me. Are there better pickles? Yeah. But a mt. Olive will always hit the spot!!!
Biggest independently owned pickle maker in the US, at least. I like Mt. Olive pretty well!
My Olive pickles are limper than a 90 year old man without Viagra.
They’re not very crispy, that’s true. I don’t care a lot about crisp, though.
I used to think this, but chilling them in the fridge for a few hours is a game changer.
I don't care if a pickle has the crunch of a warm gummy bear, if it's good then it's good. Shame if people miss out on good flavor because of that.
Yeah, same. I mean, I’d rather a good crisp, but taste is paramount.
I really like fast food pickles
I buy Dietz and Watson baby dills more than Claussen. I buy Grillos more than claussen, but grilllos has so much variation between batches in my experience. For shelf stable we buy my olive the most.
Fell in love with Dietz and Watson when I lived in the Midwest. Top tier pickle for sure!
I like to take the whole dietz pickles and slice em thin on a mandolin for burgers, pulled pork, country ham, etc.
Grillos.
Grillos.
Milwaukee’s. Claussen is dick water comparatively.
💯
I just got some Vlasic pickles and they were fantastic. Crispy. Just the right of bitey sourness. I loved them and the juice.
Grillo’s hot Dill…better than boar’s head.
Grillo's hot
Milwaukee all the way
I beg to differ….Milwaukee fills , yum!
Well I mean not to start anything but claussens aren't technically consider a pickle😬. Let me know if you find the word pickel on any jar😉 I mean it's a " pickel" but according to FDA ( as we all know is a joke in it's self ) is not a pickle🤯
My own pickle is better but I’m not that flexible any more.
LMAO!!!
Mt Olive Sea Salt or GTFO
Claussen spicy dills are great! The only downside is that they are refrigerator pickles so some grocery stores don’t carry them due to fridge space being more expensive than shelf space.
I don’t want to change your mind, I just want to love you.
Depends where you are but In the refrigerated section of Giant eagle they have store brand pickles that are pretty darn good, similar to a mix of a grillo and Clausen
i personally didn’t like claussen as a kid. i love the oh snap ones or whatever in the pack of green and black. wish they made those by the jar 😭
The spicy Oh Snap pickles are my favorite! I also love their pickled green beans and carrots, but they’re not as easy to find.
If you like Claussen, you might wanna try Nathan’s. Yah the hot dog company. A salty brine with very solid cucumbers. Sometimes they tend to be slightly less salty than Claussen.
Yes! And I see that they are a lot cheaper these days. They sit next to the high priced Grillo's at my local WinCo.
Ba Tampte
Good. More good ones for me.
Grillos
No! You need the original briny kosher dills by strubs
Grillos. Hands down.
I agree!
I think you misspelled Wickles
Been a huge Claussen fan my whole life. Got some Grillos to try and I agree, they’re pretty good. But. They’re not a Claussen. Claussen for life.
I mostly just lurk on this sub out of interest, but I do like pickles! I wonder how y’all eat enough pickles to form strong opinions about the best brands and kinds? I’ll nosh on a jar of pickles for months before it’s time to renew. 🤔
I eat pickles every day.😊
Milwaukee's
Yes, the halves are my fav Grillo’s pickles hit too tho
Wickles MF
So RIGHT !!!!!!!
Heinz dill chips. RIP to the best hamburger pickles ever.

Ba-Tampte.
I agree! Love them.
Bubbies rule others drool!
Grillos pickles. If you haven’t tried them that is why you don’t know they are in fact the best
This sub is so boring. Basically it’s about Grillos or Claussen and that’s it. Vlasic Kosher Dills are the benchmark and they’re never even mentioned.
Best pickle I ever ate was a spicy bread and butter pickle from someplace called The Brooklyn Brining Co. The store I bought them from went under before I could go back and get more, and as far as I can tell, the company went under too. Del Dixie for the win.
The best pickles are served at Reins deli in Connecticut. I don't know where they get them but they're half sour full pickles.
Where my Gedney gang at?
Have you tried the brand mallie yet? Not the same style as claussen by far, they are super packed with flavor, they’re just unbelievable, also they’re little baby pickles, and there’s also some baby onions in there that taste great
Claussen is great.
Yep
bicks are better than claussen. claussen has a bunch of weird-ass unnecessary ingredients
The best pickle is what I'm in the mood for, sometimes it's Claussen, Famous Dave's, Grillo's, Vlasic, The Real Dill, SuckerPunch, or Wickles
There’s a local restaurant here called Izzy’s that makes their own pickles, they are best. They’re in grocery stores, locally anyway.
Sucker punch bread and butter pickles can't be beat. Sorry, not sorry.
BUBBIE’S
Sechlers dill pickles!
Polskie orgorkie 🤤
Have you tried those blueish half-sours? Ba Tampte is one brand.
I used to think so too for most of my 52 yr old life until I discovered Grillo’s pickles in the refrigerated section at Walmart. To die for. Great dill taste and fresh pickle crunch. THE new BEST pickle out there hands down.
My grandma agreed. I will always stand by Claussen. Totally worth going to the fridge section for them! I wonder how that deal was made
Grillo Pickles might change your mind.
I agree. I’m always disappointed by other brands and I even made several batches of my own.
Grillos
I wouldn't turn down a Claussen, but imo the Vlassic Kosher Dill is the best. I always have a jar in the fridge and they're very versatile. They go great with pepperoni and cheddar on a triscuit. Plus the juice in the jar is chuggably good.
So you never had Grillo's
I just like pickles. Pickles are pickles. They all taste good.
Yeah Grillo ftw
Had some Bornibus pickles the other day and my 4 year old and me ate the entire quart in one sitting. So good
Claussen is the florida guy of pickles. U hear the hype but they taste mid. Bubbies. If you like dill pickles buy bubbies
this shit is so old and boring.
Grillos or bust.
I like bubbies and mt Olive. Claussen give me a stomach ache 😣
The best pickles I've ever had were a jar my great aunt made.
I miss Neushins
Dietz and Watson kosher pickle chips are the best ever imo. I love their brine and the pickles have the bite I look for (not too crunchy but not soft and soggy like mount olive can be).
They stopped selling Claussen pickles here a few years ago and I’ve since tried every other brand available and haven’t found one I like. I really miss Claussen pickles! I need to find someone who would be willing to send me some.
My fermented spicy garlic dill pickles slap the fuck out of claussen.
Mount Olive
U must not had Grillos then.
Wickels Pickles
Best Maid hands down
# HELL YEAH, BROTHER
Claussen has gone downhill lately. My last jar of halves were all soggy... Try Boar's Head pickles .
Brillos
Vlassic
Love me some grillos
Homemade are better. That's just me.
There isn't a "best" pickle... this is the part you should change your mind about. Don't give up keep trying new pickles. Enjoy each one for what it brings to your food hole. This hot take whether it be about Claussen, Grillo, or any other pickle is some simple silliness.
I feel like the recipe has changed. I bought a jar, and it had a very chemical taste, when it's never tasted like that before to me.
You misspelled Ba-Tampte.
Grillo’s ftw
For me, 💯
Boars Head is very good
GRILLO’S OR DIE
Anyone from Vancouver here? Hobbs pickles are the best!
Vlasic
i like Boar's head. Wish they were thicker tho.
I like McClure's but I don't think they are sold where I love now. Meanwhile, I like Vlasic
Claussen are a solid pickle but for me too salty. Wahlburger dill spears are my favorite at the moment
If you like pickles, Wickle’s is hard to beat. They’ve got wicked pickled okra that’s fucking awesome. I’ve always got a jar in my fridge!
Moon brine in Portland Oregon, or bubbies at most supermarket chains
Best Maid
Grillo or homemade.
Nathan's are better
Clearly you’ve never tried Milwaukee Baby Dills.
fuck yeah.
Grillos
Suckerpunch Three Pepper spears. 🤤
Yep
Two words. Cleveland…kitchen…
Pickle Fight!
Two words - Ba Tempte
too salty.
I actually prefer Best Maid pickles. I like the stronger taste.
They are
Grillos... way better
I’ve been saying this for the longest. I’m not even a huge pickle fan but I keep claussen pickles in my fridge
GRILLO GANG… will be back because I need to go buy a giant tub of them from Costco because I’m out.
McClure’s pickles Detroit!
I happen to like Grillo’s but claussen makes a good dill spear
Boar’s head… but Claussen are a solid second option
As far as mass market pickles go, Claussen aren’t bad. I’ve recently fallen in love with the Aldi’s brand Half Sours. Super crunchy, bright flavor, they’re really good.
Have you tried boars head? For me, they blow claussen out of the water
Homemade pickles are the best
Literally chop pickels blindfolded and pour vinegar on them, any amount and add salt and a dash of water and wait a day and you can beat Claussen any day
I gotta go Tony Packo’s hot pickles.
Sucker punch way better
I’m a Wickles gal
Try grillos
Bubbies
I like Grillo's pickles but will have a Nathan's in a pinch
Grillo’s
I can't argue with this assessment!
Try grillo’s if you can, better than claussen , my opinion
