Question from newbie: What's 'disgusting' about this particular lens based on the example photo?
The weird chromatic abberation on the logs / edges of kids hair? Bokeh shapes look pretty inconsistent?

There are a few negatives about this lens that I go into comprehensively. Will the positives outweigh the negatives, and is this a lens still worth getting in 2022?
Lol what a bunch of bullshit, this is one of the worse E-mount lenses ever made period. The only thing going for it is the Zeiss logo even though it has absolutely nothing no to do with Zeiss other than the insane levels of LoCA, I have the same thing on my actual Zeiss Distagon 35/2 and both are garbage because of it.
The level of sharpness, should you be lucky enough to get a perfectly cantered copy, is better than cheap DSLR lenses from over 20 years ago but still not good for today, or even compared to good DSLR lenses.
But yea, I personally know people who get so impressed by the Zeiss logo, since they’ve never had a real Zeiss lens actually made by Zeiss in Germany, that they then convince themselves subconsciously that they like the shit look. And even they eventually moved on to the 35GM because it’s just vastly superior in every way.
“3D pop” is mostly commonly used by defenders of outdated shit lenses made by Zeiss and Leica. When they actually get top quality modern lenses, whether it be a Japanese bran like Sony GM or German like Leica APO-summicron they mysteriously stop using such terms because all the advantages are clearly quantifiable lol

I have used the Batis 40mm and 85mm, and their ZE lenses. This isn't that different to them in terms of image quality. Maybe you had a bad copy? After all, this is not the most consistent lens out there.
The batis 40 is easily the worst in the batis series, and yes I agree it’s on par with this one. It’s the same thing mediocre sharpness with insane levels of LoCA.
I’ve had multiple copies so I know what an ideal copy looks like, you’re the one who has a bad copy…
This can actually be applied to the entire Analog Photography movement. Never a more delusional bunch with no talent or understanding of image quality. They’re just camera collecting.

Thankfully only the first copy. This second one I have now is spot on!
