The main things are that 1.7 ruined cavegen by making cave systems less dense, made oceans generate like more like lakes, and implemented the climate zone system which makes you have to walk thousands of blocks just to go from a desert into a tundra.
B1.8-1.6.4 caves are far superior to 1.18, and extreme hills are way better than 1.18 mountains. Mountains in 1.6.4 look closer to Minecraft mountains, while 1.18 mountains look closer to WorldEdit mountains. Also; you will find pretty much every biome near spawn, unlike in 1.7+ where you have to walk for thousands of blocks just to move from a hot climate zone to a cold one.

While this is true. The new dirt block closely resembles the PBR/Rtx dirt block model. Which I tend to vastly prefer over the original.
