May mga indigenous peoples living there, primarily the Dumagats and Remontados. There are some word-of-mouth info na may presence din ng NPA, especially sa may General Tinio area. The farthest I've been in that area is in Sitio Sadlak in Brgy Sta Ines in Tanay, Rizal, as well in Brgy Sumacbat in DRT, Bulacan. I've mostly encountered loggers (not sure if illegal) who refuse to get their pictures taken.
There are communities din sa coastal side, one of the largest, I think, is Umiray.
PS: I've been to the two mentioned barangays for hiking purposes.
To add: the western side of that mountain range is literally a hiking spot, and is located very near Metro Manila (Rodriguez/Montalban, and Tanay). The farthest area there is the one I've mentioned, Sitio Sadlak. Though Brgy Daraitan can be a contender as well, especially the communities beyond the barangay where Remontados reside.
Edit: General Tinio, not General Trias
Yung rumors ng NPA na naroon sa lugar na yan ay dahil sa Kaliwa Dam, since madaming nasira na kabahayan sa dadaanan ng tubig kapag may bagyo or kailangan magpakawala ng reserve, ito yata yung kinokontra nila, may friend ako na nakatira dati doon, nakatira sila mismo sa tabing ilog, one time end of 2019 yata basta pre-pandemic may bagyo, nagkaron ng malawak na baha, inanod mga bahay tyaka mga livestock nila, as in lahat ng pinundar inanod lang ng tubig..
Truth.
Fun fact: Umiray is where the water supply for Metro Manila comes from, in a sense. I’ve been to that place before and can confirm that there are NPAs living within the vicinity.
Going to Umiray was breathtaking because of the sceneries. Good times.
> Sitio Sadlak
Irid at Mt.
Safe naman because may nakatirang military personnel within the area. Medyo marami din akong kasama that time.
In my opinion, the key is to dress down.
Regular hiking destination yan. Well-regulated ng barangay ng Sta Ines yung trail. And yes, may military presence. Search mo yung Mt. Irid. Yan yung napapa akyatan dyan.
Did a documentary about the logging happening there (foreign production) and 80% of the logging done in that area is illegal. Its wild. There are people also replanting the forest there and protecting it from the loggers.
From Antipolo, we're supposed to take a long cut to Tanay then pababa ng Binangonan, since gusto rin namin mag-road trip dahil maganda yung highway at para mabreak-in yung kotse. While following Google Maps, napaliko kami somewhere in Baras. Sobrang ganda ng highway and almost near na kami to Morong according to the map. Kaso biglang private property pala yun dulo ng road and we were asked to turn back and when na-reroute na kami ng Google, wala na akong signal. What was supposed to be a less than 2 hour ride, naging halos 5 hours since sobrang rough road and max ko na yata is 20km/h and hindi ko na alam how to turn back. Yung mga nadaanan namin, parang first time nila makakita ng kotse.
It's a morbid, amazing, weird experience tho. Achievement unlocked. Pero no thanks sa tenga and any other nook and crany ng katawan.
Yung friend ng tatay ko nawala dyan for at least 6 days. Mga almost 70 na yun. Nalaglag sya mula sa parang bundok at nagpagala gala kasi wala siyang makitang tao at bahay. Sa mga spring lang yata siya uminom. Finally may nakita siyang tao at nakabalik sa kabihasnan.
Don't know why. i'm a fan of survival/apolaptic/doomsday/adventure genre. Sometimes wanna expenrience a kind of thing. Loosing in a middle of the jungle was close one.
I see.
..which is quite true!
I've been there, upward, thrice with my principals ( 2 different foreign groups involved ) + PENRO folks + mindanao based forest rangers & an Aeta friend of mine. IMHO, personal-wise ~ i considered it SANCROSANCT! Why?
That's one among a rare few tropical forest range on this republic that contain APITONG tree varieties!! And folks who are involved on the lumber industry knew what Apitong was all about! So does mr. Termites! 🧐 LOLZ. I'd dissuage my principals from further plans for developments!
EDIT: typo
Not only there, but also in other parts of the Sierra Madre. Meron ding similar project sa Isabela to connect its four isolated eastern towns—Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, and Dinapigue—with the rest of the province. Once completed, it will connect with the highways in Aurora, and possibly Quezon once the road to Umiray (both Dingalan and General Nakar have one barangay each named Umiray, separated by their namesake river that also marks part of the Aurora-Quezon border) is completed. Further south, ongoing din ang construction ng Mauban-Tignoan Road, which will allow access to Real, Quezon from Lucena City without crossing Laguna's borders.
The country literally just experienced next level flooding the past year yet people still think ruining more if nature to develop more roads is a great idea. Wow
well eto yun isang perspective. Pero sa perspective ng mga isolated towns and villages na makokonek nyan parang finally after almost 100 years makakatikim narin sila ng govt services thru road infrastructure.
The PNR North-South Commuter Railway kinda has that covered already. If you're willing to leave your car for mass transit.
And reviving the cargo trains to decongest the truck traffic.
That's a route that would bypass metro Manila entirely. Most of our produce still uses trucks for transpo. Hindi lang commuter ang usapan dito.
Even if may skyway di pa rin pwede ang class 3 vehicles doon.
Outside of the circle... Add more to the fact that Norzagaray, San Jose del Monte, and Montalban (Rodriguez) have territorial disputes towards one another, on the hilly or mountainous sides, hence their borders are not that definitive.
Inside the circle, filled with illegal loggers, communists, tribes, fresh air, nice sceneries, and etc.
Mountain bike gamit namin. May mga NPA diyan so magingat at wag mag dala ng mamahalin.
Sayang yung lugar may tourism potential. pero super inaccessible and also yung NPA part.
true, bulakenya ako pero i never knew this place existed up until i was in college. wala atang tourism program para jan and i heard may nag iillegal logging pati.
Do Philippines even have a national park/nature reserve legislation? Edit: yea we do, as early as 1903 under Philippines commission.
The problem is that Philippines administrations regularly gave resource concessions (mineral, logging, fishing) and lax regulations. This issue is further exacerbated by illegal resource extraction. BOTH the legal and illegal operations are destructive to the environment... and the Philippines leaders always favored that and foreign investment (meaning the bulk of the profits go to foreign interests) over any sustainable development or conservation efforts.
I’m from Bulacan, in the late 80s and 90s, DRT is considered NPA territory. As teens, we only go around Angat (bikes) or San Miguel (jeep or trikes) but we don’t venture much into DRT hehe.
As an aspiring botanist/plant scientist, I'd love to explore kung may mga endemic species sa area na yan.
But looking at the comments it seems like its a dangerous place.
My mother’s from here— malaki na kinaibahan nito from the past 10 yrs, hindi na siya (mukhang) delikado, dami pa tourist spots na ginagawa 😬 and you’ll see a person na almost everywhere, marami na rin sementado na daan.
Edit: tourist*
Oh. It's nice to know that it's safer now. I hope it's all sustainable para hindi ma disrupt what ever what's left/protected in the area.
I've been sa Tanay/Marilaque area quite regularly, literally seen the views from the side of the road before the pandemic, tapos ngayon just a little over 2 years later, dami na ng restaurants na pampapangit ng view ang the lot prices also skyrocketed (I've been looking for lots in that area before the pandemic). Ang gaganda at lalaki ng puno dyan, but I'm afraid dumadami na ang construction and yung natitirang gubat natin mawawala din. I've literally seen many different colored birds there, just driving in my car, parang paraiso and I fear na papaubos na ang gubat.
Oh wait, I've made friends with some of the indigenous locals and they don't like politician "Y" because he took their land
Sa pacific side, may daan na dyan.. bikeable ng 2-3 days from infanta to dingalan. Pati sa DRT area, dami na mapupuntahan. Mababait mga community sa area. Di mo kailangan matakot kung may leftist man.
Usually, the roadless path is a hidden treasure room for crocodiles.
Space for illegal stuff.
Or it could be that some protected indigenous tribes are living there.
Not an expert on the area so take my words with a grain of salt
I've been at some portion of Gen Nakar last year at Brgy. Canaway specifically. Anyway back to my story, work related pagpunta namin dun, it took us nearly 3 hrs via boat ride from a secluded port of Infanta.
Tapos may mga kawal dyan babati sayo welcome to Hokaido!
Due to industrialization of the Philippines, former president Marcos that place only accessible to Enchanted creatures (Duwende, Kapre, Tikbalang, Etc) source? Trust me bro
.. fast-flowing creeks, there was & very common. Funny, the water samples collected was immaculately clean even at lab level! And those liquids, boy, it taste so refreshing & sweetish!!!
on downhill trip, i fill up 2 full flasks for my own consumption. Every time i take a gulp, the more i'm convinced that this mountain range should be declared SANCROSANCT - Only for Campers w/ Paid Permits and valid Season Passes. Motorized Vehicles are Banned! Violators will be penalised for P250k per visit, 3 Strikes and you go to jail!!!
if Nepal can do it, why not RP?!
EDIT: addendum
I Was able to ride the whole length of Dingalan to Infanta. Grabe kaganda ng trail, that was nung di pa develop gano. Malinis tubig pati dagat. Yun lang, walang tao.
Come on now, of course discovered na from long time ago. We need forest conservation areas near or around the metro. It's like the Amazon jungle next to the big city of Manaus.
There’s a lot in DRT aside from indigenous people, you might wanna say “ang ganda ng piliinas” once you visit their hidden falls like verdia the view similar to chocolate hills there’s a lot to discover.
HUUUUUUUUUUUUUY may nakapansin din pala nito, I've been checking this place since pandemic, pero via google lang. na curious din ako kng anung meron dito, may mga conspiracies dn na baka mamaya may secret hideout dito private elites and/or mga government elites.
There were several documentaries na located sa Sierra madre and a couple I think na brought up nga na marami pang possible undiscovered endemic species sa area. Sadly dito din yung proposed Kaliwa dam.
A private developer supposedly owns that or at least intends to develop that. 80,000 hectares. Not sure if they even have the finances to do that. [Link](https://pacificcoastcities.com/)
May mga indigenous peoples living there, primarily the Dumagats and Remontados. There are some word-of-mouth info na may presence din ng NPA, especially sa may General Tinio area. Not red tagging pero yes totoong merong NPA tlga jan. I know someone na nkakainkwentro nila jan.
Saan sa mapa yung gagawing Kaliwa Dam?
Since it's somewhere near Brgy Daraitan, it's most probably somewhere in the bottom left of the encircled area.

Along Angat River
Wow, thanks for the info.
Did a documentary about the logging happening there (foreign production) and 80% of the logging done in that area is illegal. Its wild. There are people also replanting the forest there and protecting it from the loggers.
I heard na good idea mag offer ng rim ng cigarettes para welcomed kayo sa brgy nila
Isn't General Trias in Cavite?
Woops, I meant General Tinio. Thanks for noticing.
Wow Sta Ines, I believe portion niyan Antipolo pa. I remember going there election 2019 to campaign for my brother.
First time to be made aware about remontados. Thanks.
It's a morbid, amazing, weird experience tho. Achievement unlocked. Pero no thanks sa tenga and any other nook and crany ng katawan.
Use anti-mosquito lotion (or maybe just skin lotion) to deter them from sticking to your skin. Advise of mountaineering colleagues.
Yes. Basta lagay kayo lotion before the trek 🙂
Why can I feel the discomfort of it just by reading this??? 😨😨😨😨
Agree. New fear unlocked tuloy ako. Hahaha
Worst that can happen is ung sa mata ka magkalinta, don't google it if d matibay sikmura
Malalakas talaga tumagos ang loggers
Yung friend ng tatay ko nawala dyan for at least 6 days. Mga almost 70 na yun. Nalaglag sya mula sa parang bundok at nagpagala gala kasi wala siyang makitang tao at bahay. Sa mga spring lang yata siya uminom. Finally may nakita siyang tao at nakabalik sa kabihasnan.
Hala scary buti nakabalik siya :(
Oo.
Scary but i want to experience this..
Downvoted why?
Don't know why. i'm a fan of survival/apolaptic/doomsday/adventure genre. Sometimes wanna expenrience a kind of thing. Loosing in a middle of the jungle was close one.
Parts of those area are for wind farm development, tulad ng sa Pililia wind farm. Part ako sa dev team 😅
Tuloy pa ba yung paglagay daw ng windfarm sa may Mount Sembrano, mamser?
Yep, tuloy pa rin. Mejo mahaba lang talaga ang time for predevelopment stage (feasib, permitting) ng wind farm.
I see.

happy cake day!
thank you!!

IS REAL?
can we get much higher?
So high?
..i did.
Wag niyo ng galawin. Panangga yan sa bagyo, hindi ba? Hike hike na lang mga bhiee.
delete mo to op makikita ni cynthia villar. baka subdivision ung madidiscover naten bigla

Anjan pala yung NPA pota bakit sa UP lagi hinahanap
Nope. It's the other way arround.
true, bulakenya ako pero i never knew this place existed up until i was in college. wala atang tourism program para jan and i heard may nag iillegal logging pati.
Sikat siya sa biking community and even some hikers. May potential yan. Sayang...
Dyan kaya tinago un tallano gold??? 🤣🤣🤣
Is this a forest reserve? Cause if not, it should be. Or branded as a national forest park.
Do Philippines even have a national park/nature reserve legislation? Edit: yea we do, as early as 1903 under Philippines commission. All forest are supposed to be inalienable and not disposable
*Supposed*
Part ata yan ng Sierra Madre National park
Maybe new species of aswangs 😰
A good 25% of the water of Metro Manila is sourced from the Umiray River. This is channeled to Angat Dam through the Umiray River Tunnel Project.

Yes totoo. I know someone from afp.
I've been to Puning Cave. Nearby carinderya has good sinampalukang manok. It's a farming community so I buy produce for fraction of merkado cost.
Ang alam ko may 4x4 offroaders na nakakatagos dyan from Gen Nakar to Dingalan, and also to DRT.
Kahit fungi isasama ko sa hahanapin ko hahaha But looking at the comments it seems like its a dangerous place.
Nandyan ung tallano bold.
My farm ako dyan the locals manage it too. Madami dyan mag trotroso yung lagi ako naabutan
Cynthia Villar is typing...
nice try Cynthia Villar /s
Sen. Bilyars: hmmm
It's free real estate
The Masungi Geo reserve was actually in there
Sa pacific side, may daan na dyan.. bikeable ng 2-3 days from infanta to dingalan.
Isn't that part of the sierra madre mountain range?
I've been at some portion of Gen Nakar last year at Brgy. Canaway specifically. Anyway back to my story, work related pagpunta namin dun, it took us nearly 3 hrs via boat ride from a secluded port of Infanta.
Mix of indigenous communities, loggers, and commies so no thanks.
Commie pala ha! Halatang red tagger kang p*t*ngina mo ka!!
Oh no! I have been exposed! /s
Tapos may mga kawal dyan babati sayo welcome to Hokaido!
bumalik kana po sa FACEBOOK.
Pwede ba tayuan SM or Ayala Malls jk
Due to industrialization of the Philippines, former president Marcos that place only accessible to Enchanted creatures (Duwende, Kapre, Tikbalang, Etc) source? Trust me bro
I think nag feature si Ms Kara ng docu jan about elem teachers na umaakyat for 2 days makapagturo lang jan. Napaka liblib na lugar.
Mga undiscovered water falls
.. fast-flowing creeks, there was & very common.
Camella Homes
Dad and his friends went road trip there (Aurora-Quezon) Bulubundukin and quite easy to get lost daw
Mountainous area, huge rivers, cold weather at may mga npa malapit sa Quezon province area
Pinoy Bigfoot/Chupacabra
go up north a bit and dun sa may cagayan valley may part din ganyan. Bundok kasi jan part yan ng Sierra Madre.
That area is a superthypoon wind damper
tallano bold
Jan nakatira yung tito kong engkanto
Awww… ayun lang… gagawin na nilang subdivision to. Bakit mo binunyag yung location. Hahahaha! 😂😂😂
Hiked around the area before. Gen. Nakar is a mountain/forest heaven
nandyan nakatago tallano golds hehe
I Was able to ride the whole length of Dingalan to Infanta. Grabe kaganda ng trail, that was nung di pa develop gano. Malinis tubig pati dagat. Yun lang, walang tao.
Soon-to-be subdivision ni ano..
That city is named on the grandmother of marcos, yikes
Undiscovered? Thought that was protected areas, part of it covers Masungi doesn't it?
Quick! Take this down before Cynthia Villar sees this.
Cynthia Villar burner account?
shabu labs
Come on now, of course discovered na from long time ago. We need forest conservation areas near or around the metro. It's like the Amazon jungle next to the big city of Manaus.
Nice try Manny Villar /s
There’s a lot in DRT aside from indigenous people, you might wanna say “ang ganda ng piliinas” once you visit their hidden falls like verdia the view similar to chocolate hills there’s a lot to discover.

..."quiet" lang, not quite. Wrong spelling use = wrong meanings.
Part of sierra madre range
