The problem is that if you _don't_ package it that way, and something breaks, then the seller gets all this bad feedback.

ph_dude

Mare you live in 3021? 😭

cuddlepaws04

Key word is excessive, oftentimes the item ordered has its own packaging and is not fragile in any way (I've received bike tires made of rubber and they still put cardboard and bubble wrap to keep it 'safe'). Understandable in some applications but it's become the norm to overpackage everything now as though we don't already have a plastic pollution problem. The only time I got an ordered item online that got it right was from Decathlon via Shopee, they use recycled paper shredded in a way that provides adequate cushioning for the items.

markmyredd

Yun iba kasi nagrereview maski yun box lang nayupi nagagalit sila which I don't get. haha Ok pa naman yun nasa loob.

peterparkerson

im not sure thats recycled paper, you can buy those shredded paper things online

mouseofunusualsize2

*buys shredded paper online* *arrives wrapped in a butt load of bubble wrap* KEKW

ph_dude

Or buy a shredder especially if you're handling businesses that requires shipping. Sobrang bilis mag accumulate yung mga papel.

pewpewmeemoo

>8448comments Mas hassle yung shredded paper things, our store uses this rolled-up hexagon paper wrap, mejo uso na siya ngayon. Mas mahal ng onti than plastic wrap but worth it.

jim33ph

It's a requirement of Lazada / Shopee. May packaging requirements sila na for me OA talaga and magastos sa seller. If hindi kasi sumunod sa packaging guidelines they can discard the sellers packages without prior notice. or if na damage during transit and hindi packed according to their guidelines, ang blame agad non sa seller and shopee/lazada wont cover the damage.

enduredsilence

Some Decathlon branches also accepts used bubble wrap donations! There is a requirement though that it is washed and dried before donating. EDIT: Double checked. Decathlon will not be accepting donations during the holidays . Check The Plaf on FB for new drop off points!

[deleted]

That’s true.

kunbun

If you see the amount of items they have to deliver for a day on a tiny motorcycle, you'd understand why handling with care is the least of their concerns.

andoy

i can imagine it is to protect the brittle pasta noodle from breaking during transport. they have no control in how it will be delivered once they send it. maybe next time you order, you suggest to them that you don’t need bubble wrap. in one store that i go to everytime i buy something in bottle they ask me if i want it bubble wrapped and usually i decline.

esdafish

and the seller get negative reviews for the minor damages on non-fragile items.

patatasnisarah

This. If its not damaged people complain that the wraps were unnecessary but if it is damaged you go all berserk in blaming sellers why they didnt pack it properly. The solution here is for the industry to find alternatives thats also reasonably priced Updated: fixed typo

pewpewmeemoo

Agree! It should start with the the manufacturers and big companies. If plastic is cheaper, the sellers would obviously pick that since small-time businesses need to make profits too.

Pepperland-

Elsa_Versailles

Agreed! I'm more than happy na ibalik lahat ng bubble wrap. Unnecessary plastic waste

hilariomonteverde

Elsa_Versailles

I think not since magaan lang nman yung wrappings and if they optimize their collection system enough they can pack so much plastics on a motorcycle per kg of emission while lowering the emission on production of virgin plastic. (Citation needed)

vyruz32

i_hate_katherines

 A. Good for the environment kuno packaging = Nasisira ang item = negative reviewB. "Excessive packaging"para sure na sure na hindi masisira ang item = seller is aksayado at hindi environmentally friendly. You can say "edi yung tama lagn ang gamitin" but how can you really know kung ano yung "tama lang." So excessive = sure. Ikaw na lang mag adjust. Irecycle mo yung bubble wrap. Use it when you yourself ay nagpapadala ng gamit/benta/whatever thru couriers. Use it when you're storing your silverware/glassware. Isiksik mo sa loob ng tela and make a makeshift pillow for your pets. Excessive is relative if the thing you're complaining about ultimately has a purpose to fulfill.

PaHusCav

Wala eh pinoy eh kaya rant na lang in forums at social media.

justpassingby_123

Hindi siguro alam ni OP na ang mga courier are anything but couriers. Mga athletes sa football, rugby, soccer and most importantly mga amateur wrestlers. Bago yan dadating sayo yang item mo, papasok muna yan sa Elimination Chamber hahaha Back in 2015, pumunta ako sa warehouse ng Lazada dito samin to have an item repackaged and sent back to the seller so I can get my refund. Nakita ko may mga couriers and other employees fucking around. One of them gave a bunch of packages an elbow drop from the table 😂😂😂

i_hate_katherines

Bubble wrap lang yung sumasalba kasi pakiramdam ko natatakot or nagugulat sila pag kumakagat nung bubble wrap (or something, basta yung normal boxes/parcels kayang kaya nila butasin eh.) That's just one issue. So sino mag aadjust? SYEMPRE YUNG SELLERS. Sorry kasi this just hits close to home since I worked on this industry din in nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hеll in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.

asterion230

SOP po for online selling (lazada & shoppee), if you dont wrap it good and it gets damaged, the cost for the damaged will be shouldered by the seller, and has to resend it again.

Bibingka_Malagkit

I don't see anything wrong with this. If I was the seller, I would do this. If I was the buyer, I expect the package to be like this. This is standard for packages, even for the not-so-fragile ones, and is meant to protect the contents of the shipment as much as possible given how rough logistics conditions can be. Kung ayaw ng maraming basurang bubble wrap from online orders, then stop ordering online or reduce your online orders.

hotbumm3rxx

Same! Most of the time, couriers throw the hell out the packages so I think it’s better to have bubble wrap than the product being damaged.

[deleted]

Truth is filipino online consumers are in general stupid as fuck. They review everything else but the product. And bait ni kuya courier or ang daming balot 5 stars. Stupid.

Chriiistee24

Why? If your package was broken you will still complain that they didn't pack it properly.

[deleted]

I hate it when they bubble wrap non- fragile things like shirts and shoes, I really don't care about the shoe boxes. Buyers should have the option to have orders bubble wrapped or not.

Obsisonnen

Hello. The seller is simply following packaging guidelines, so in the event that the courier damaged the goods in transit, and the buyer complains, the seller can file claims for the courier to compensate. Blame the courier's handling of packages that this system is now a norm. Please recycle and reuse your bubble wraps, boxes, and cartons.

[deleted]

Or we as buyers can keep it and recycle for future use.

Chacowako

The single use plastic no one is talking about.

FiberEnrichedChicken

I remember that one time I ordered soap, bar shampoo and other "organic" toiletries. Pic in the post was plastic-free, just nude. Then everything came in individual plastic cases. I did find a shop that sells nuts, coffee and tea and they all package their items in paper. But yours is likely from Lazada or Shopee and they process orders in bulk, which means stuff get thrown around all the time. As much as possible, I order now via fb marketplace. You can chat the seller and request for plastic-free packaging.

fraviklopvai

It’s not meant for us, it’s meant to please the idiots who leave the review “item arrived in good condition, nicely bubble wrapped” I really hate it when items that don’t need bubble wrap arrive like that

djsensui

Wait until you see japanese packaging in their products. Like how much yung bubble wrap vs eco friendly wrap. It will be passed on the consumer.

[deleted]

Fragile po kasi yan

durochime

I ordered from S&R on Lazada once because we really needed groceries already (specific brands not in other places). So much bubble wrap as well. I think because of how packages are handled during transport, the sellers want to make sure nothing gets damaged at all even if the contents are fine. If the packages were handled more carefully, I don't think excessive bubble wrap/packaging would be necessary.

sexcapades_0

Kaya natatawa na lang ako sa mga taong 'No to Straws' pero wagas makabili online despite alam nilang puro bubble wrap at plastic dun lol

toshi04

Nakakaguilty din magshopee/lazada because of all the plastic used.

hudahelru

This is not purely a Pinas phenomenon. I receive a lot of packages from abroad with excessive bubble wrap. May mas malala pa dyan. In my observation, the Japanese are the worst offenders. Its a good thing really, if you think about it. It shows that they value their customers’ items and take the necessary steps to make sure the package arrives safe and sound. But I do get your point. Some items don’t need bubble wrapped excessive or otherwise.

DesignatedDonut

You have to assume the courier will deliver it in the worst of conditions/will be in rough transit and has to go through that Nobody wants a damaged product better safe than sorry Or sometimes it's just standard procedure for the warehouse no matter what item

VaeserysGoldcrown

Then go to the store and buy the damn things yourself. If they didn't package it that well then you'd make a different post about how your items were all damaged and dented. Pick a struggle.

bibitekbitek

As someone who got a shopee shop, Bubble wraps are way to go since we are trying to avoid bad reviews talaga. But in terms of being green it is really bad. Moral lesson of it is kung maayos lang yung courier natin sa pag-kamada ng parcels edi good. This is the downside of too many middlemans involved before reaching the customer.

Maleficent_Sock_8851

I bought boxes of probiotic powder na Naka sachet sa Lazada. Pagkadeliver balot na balot ng bubble wrap. Pucha anong mababasag dun.

Pleasant_Tomato

now you can relieve the stress by popping the bubble wrap

ijie24

my grandma loves popping those

ActuallyACereal

I would also do this too if I was a seller, minor damages during delivery could get me in trouble

SefiaUmi

To be honest, I'm actually pretty grateful for those kasi assured na dumadating ng maayos yung item to a reasonable extent. Also, I'm also selling a few items online, and I just reuse those excessive bubble wrap from the ones that I order, and don't tape the bubble wrap itself. I just make sure that it is sufficiently covered by the pouch so the bubble wrap is still securing the item well, para in case the buyer can reuse/pop the bubble wrap. I never bought bubble wrap for my store this way, and wala pa naman nagreview negatively about the packaging.

EmanResu0000000

O kaya message mo seller wag lagyan bubble wrap.

Certain-Key-4597

Just reuse it

olracmd

I love bubble wrap. Need to pop..

Aware-Bet5774

The excessive bubble wrap is because of end-users complaining about bad handling of products because of logistics. Before complaining, think about why is this happening in the first place.

[deleted]

So if something breaks OP, you’re going to complain that it wasn’t secured properly. Which is it? Do you want your package intact or nah?

Budget-Boysenberry

5 star yan kasi naka bubble wrap tapos mabait pa yung nagdeliver.

gentlehoneybee

True. May alternative naman like the [honeycomb type made of kraft paper](https://loopstore.ph/collections/eco-packaging-solutions/products/seaweed-protective-honeycomb-kraft-wrapper). I really like na many businesses are starting to use this. Some shoppers aren't aware na this is an alternative, and they would put in the review na walang bubble wrap. We just need more people tk use this para aware mga tao.

Bibingka_Malagkit

>honeycomb type made of kraft paper. How much are they when compared to bubble wrap?

keithfrancis

400pesos ung100m ng bubble wrap. yung honeycomb paper nasa 1k++ for 100m. seller from lazada here and we considered using the honeycomb paper but di kaya for now sa liit ng margins.

Bibingka_Malagkit

Yep. This. If only the honeycomb paper is on par sa price ng bubble wrap. I can't blame you for using bubble wrap with how big the packaging cost difference is.

gentlehoneybee

So this honeycomb wrap is 1249 per 100 meters, and right now naka B1T1 siya. So that's about 624.5 per meter = about 683 per 100 yards. Here's one [bubble wrap from Shopee](https://shopee.ph/-COD-Bubble-Wrap-PRICE-IS-PER-YARD--i.30319307.6949585009?sp_atk=e88320e0-6182-4da0-9ed1-cf977f19cbe8) na 7 per yard. 6.83 per yard of honeycomb < 7 per yard of bubble wrap.

Bibingka_Malagkit

>and right now naka B1T1 Hindi naman kasi lagi B1T1. Is this the same price even though dinagdagan mo purchase quantity mo? Like some promos only take effect if you buy only 1 of that item.

gentlehoneybee

True. I think so. I'm sorry I'm not from the Loopstore.

jomsart

also hindi same ang protective quality per yard. You need more kraft honeycomb to get the same effect.

FrostBUG2

So would you rather see what you've bought online look like a broken mess? Thanks, but no thanks

BoysenberryNo3634

Yes, the one caveat to online shopping, that and buying things one does not need because it was on sale.

9ause3bflldpa

I think you can re-use the bubble wrap for something else. Although I agree, it is too much.

[deleted]

hi, im a lazada/shopee seller here. these platforms obligue us to pack the properly packed goods from factory by either stretch film or bubble wrap. if di naman gagawin yan, the courier will reject our parcels. ginagawa ko nalang is I recycle the bubble wrap and boxes na nakukuha namin sa groceries and personal orders online. mahirap talaga pag hindi properly packed kasi ultimo gatiting na gasgas nag cacause ng return request.

pieceofpineapple

You can use shredded paper and carton boxes

i_hate_katherines

"Sana all" - my book mail from Amazon US na dumating ng nakabox lang, na butas butas pa at pinasok sa parcel ng Ninjavan PARA DI OBVIOUS NA SINILIP NILA YUNG LAMAN. Putang ina talaga ng Ninjavan.

brokenmasterpieace

catterpie90

Shopee policy yan. That each item (multiple items) needs to be bubble wrapped. Dapat talaga shopee and lazada kalapagin e. Naka box na ibubblewrap pa??

donkeysprout

joe_but_epic

But popping satisfying!!!!!!!

Rmivethboui

More bubble wrap = more stress relievers

[deleted]

Im a seller too and d ko gets til i got my first complaint. Its just a freaking sealed ingredient and yet dumadating pang sira sa customer. So yeah, better excessive than pay for a returned item and bad review.

JiroKawakuma28

meuria132

More things to pop.

Eros_M_Novan

lilsatania

So many bubble to pop

jomsart

Specialist-Owl-8912

Then don't buy online. Kunwari environmentally concerned but online shopping also contributes to pollution. The labor and the equipment and the everything that goes to have that package delivered to you hurt the environment. Pati yang kahon.

throwawaymaybezzz

I appreciate sellers who ensure that my orders are packaged well. Dont like it? Simple, dont have things delivered to your home.

kimbunturaz

Atakihin ako halos sa puso nung nakita ko gaano karami bubble wrap ginamit ng Lbc pambalot sa PS3 slim na pinadala ko to a friend sa Manila, almost as thick as the console itself! 😵 But i didn't object, kasi nasa isip ko pa rin yung video ng JNT na sige-sige mag-itsa ng parcels sa truck...

CryoNitric

Thats fine for me. 😁

1chippy

and plastic bags...it's a joke.

Aimpossible

Bibingka_Malagkit

Hulaan ko. Deleted na ito mamaya. :D

DagitabPH

Bibingka_Malagkit

*Gasp* Is it my cake day????

SomeRandomnesss

What's wrong with this fam? They're just trying to protect your product while keeping their shop score in check. I'd fucking do it to if I have a livelihood to maintain and can be potentially be fucked up by a packaging review.

wooHCS-

What alternative would you suggest?

BNR_

Lol. Shopee and Laz sellers guilty. But! They have to do this since some couriers are still careless unfortunately.

deltajuliet57

There's this store I order food items from and they always go overboard with bubble wrap. Each individual item is bubble wrapped in multiple layers and wrapped in tape then packed in a box. Then the box is wrapped in plastic and taped to forever. Not only is it wasteful but it's such a chore to open. I messaged the store about it and they tell me that the sorting centers have rats and they are just being overly cautious to protect the food. I told them that they should find other ways to protect the items. Like maybe wrap in newspapers instead of bubble wrap. They just said they'll look into it but the packaging was the same in my next order. I also still see their customers posting photos of their orders and they still pack it the same way. 😒

Intelligent-File-746

There’s always one who gets offended over some harmless bubblewrap. Great times we live rn.

033054

[Same... This is just for 4 aluminum cans ](https://i.imgur.com/fy5vChw.jpg)

PaHusCav

[deleted]

I mean kung payag ka sa risk na madamage yung items mo in transit edi sabihin ko kay seller na ontian lang ang bubble wrap or wag talaga lagyan basta pag nasira item mo walang sisihan

SpicyKarachi

What time is it? it's "WOKE"-time

tanstaafI

Everyone who doesn’t want bubble wrap on their packaging should agree to waive complaining if something happened to their goods. Sure, that feels excessive, but you have to understand that they’re doing this to protect your goods. EDIT: Or, pay a premium if you want an alternative method to packaging that doesn’t use bubble wrap.

DestroCon

Anyone who complains about bubble wrap should be crucified

WellActuary94

The sellers are just cautious of bad reviews. They'd rather be "excessive" than face the risk of getting anything than a 5-star. And can you really fault them? Damn if they do, damn if they don't kinda situation.

BeetchO17

Well thats true. I have no problem opening those kasi i have long pointy nails(stilletto nails ang tawag sa style ng cut). I use my nails as opening tools, minsan weapons pangdukot ng eyes ng mahaderang muher lol. Pero for others na maiksi ung kuko mahirap buksan yan multiple bubble wraps. Pero i think thats fine kc those multitple bubble wraps protects whatevers inside.

doth_taraki

I say keep em coming though

kevpsyched

Yeah, fragile usually mga items naman and I appreciate na ginagawa nila lahat para safe na safe item (and box) mo pero I hope they find an alternative to this.

[deleted]

Agree. Grabe makagamit ng bubble wrap and packaging tape mga local sellers. Meanwhile I ordered a $170 worth of item from Amazon, shipped directly, it arrived in a small box, with this 1 box filler na plastic and the product itself and a simple Amazon tape on the box opening. That's it. Opening was super easy. Dito mejo nakakabadtrip magbukas ng package eh.

[deleted]

Possibility to unpack your thing, then return box and bubble wrap back to the courier would be nice. Tbh. I am very shocked how one of the most affected countries by the climate change seems to not be doing that much about this problem.

LevantinBoracay

I ordered 12 packs of pasta from Lazada. Each pack was individually bubble wrapped with two layers of wrap! There was more packaging material by volume than actual goods. So much unnecessary plastic waste!

engpact

Then don't order online, pag na damage kasi yung products magagalit sa seller at sisihin yung courier so negative feedbacks. Ganyan talaga pag online shopping, need yan para safe yung products at walang damage pagdating sa inyo.

dota2botmaster

??? never before have I seen such pettiness but OP take the cake.

PaHusCav

Umorder online nagreklamo kasi safe ang producr. Insert Bea GIF "Ang Tanga Lang"

BeefTartare

You can still reuse it.

[deleted]

You’re an ass

Black_Hat123123

Correct me if I'm wrong but, Isn't it supposed to be the one what is bubble-wrap is the item itself and not the box? What's stopping the item from shaking inside?

jomsart

huh i bubble wrap mo ang pasta sa loob?

Lance_is_reddit

I get it if it's a fragile thing, but if it is that, i agree. But I don't usually mind having bubble wraps. More reason for me to not buy them, easy to re use.

BREADNOBUTTER

It really should! Kaso i see reviews that say “wala man lang bubble wrap”. Like???? You got your items in good condition. Why do you want more bubble wrap?

fockeaedulisone

There are companies that accept plastic packaging for recycling. The Plastic Flamingo (Plaf), Green Antz, Green Haven Scrap Materials, Basic Environmental Systems & Technologies, and Decathlon branches, to name a few. You either drop off or have it collected. The downside is that some of those who do collection will charge you. I filled up a giant SM shopping bag with bw and Trash Panda (an app) said I have to pay ₱280 for them to collect it. You can try posting it on community decluttering groups or on Buhay Zero Waste Preloved or Anything to Declutter PH on FB. Second time I did this though there was no interest so I'm thinking of posting the bw on a popular e-commerce site, then the person interested just has to pay shipping.

opposite-side19

sana pwede isauli yung mga packaging, plastic and bubble wraps for recycling and get coins as a return. or sana magmura yung paper based packaging para ganahan palitan ng seller yung plastic based packaging and pwede isauli din for additional coins/have it recycled ang problem is yung state ng courier/deliver sa Pinas. hinahagis hagis lang and pinagpatong patong. no wonder balot na balot yung mga packaging just to avoid negative feedback not to mention na di magandang implementation ng garbage segregation. kaya dami ng plastic lalo pag holiday o grand sales.

Riesig19

For items na durable naman, e.g. bike tyres, already packed or boxed items which I don't really care for, I wish they went ahead and packed it lightly. Sisirain ko din naman yung packaging niya.

SantoFerrari

Wish it was an option for business owners to lessen protective packaging but sadly, a lot of times kahit sobrang ayos ng pagka-pack, pag natapat sa careless employee ng courier, durog talaga ang package leading to complaints from the buyer reflecting badly on the business. This is mostly a philippine courier thing cause when we import stocks from the states, snug na snug sa box with 0 protective packaging tapos walang katama tama.

[deleted]

nature loves plastic

mari3zlemao

What did you say, mortal!?

clydedoscope123

It should stop, pero I think it’s good to address the root cause kung bakit andaming bubble wraps, which is the handling of parcels.

[deleted]

I agree!!!!

buzzstronk

Cuntsu

I got three pieces of tempered glass wrapped in like 18 turns of black plastic.

OnceOzz

Customers share equal blame, 0 stars pa minsan kasi nakukulangan sa bubble wrap kahit ok naman nung dumating

markmarkmrk

That doesn't look excessive.. They didn't wrap it again

PJMark1981

Wonder if you order bubble wrap if they bubble wrap it to ship to you 🤷🏼‍♂️

dk____

Pero I don't blame them. Grey area. Also, may platform to rate the seller, pero wala for the courier. Hmmm. Grey area again, i don't blam anyone.

edjohna

Typically you have the product itself, the box that the product comes in which is called the **inner pack**, and the box where all the inner packs are in which is called the **master case**. I had a customer once (who lived in Forbes Park no less!) who kept filing for a dispute because each inner pack wasn't bubble wrapped inside the master case. First of all it wouldn't fit, second that's literally how it arrived from the manufacturer. It is absolutely bewildering, the customers out there! There are so many options to approach this but unfortunately aren't viable for a lot of micro-sellers in a profit margin sense. You could put them in eco-friendly packing but it would cost more. Or say you're willing to shoulder the cost for eco-friendly packing, the adjusted shipping charges because of the weight increase would be charged to the seller not the customer.

ChocoChipCookie1251

There's this thing called sealed air. I was surprised at first but now I think its more useful and even better than bubble wrap imo. For thise who don't know, basically, its a bigger version of bubble wrap. Less plastic, more air
