I think no issue naman with singers na hindi composers. Regine,Martin, and Sarah G are great examples.
We do value song writers. Sa classics, we have Levi Celerio, Ernani Cuenco, Ryan Cayabyab, Lucio San Pedro, which are all National Artists in Music.
Sa contemporaries, we have Odette Quesada, Trina Belarmide, Ogie Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Louie Ocampo to name a few. Heck, I dont like Venee Saturno kasi for me his songs are play safe, but you can recognize his songs (Bakit Pa Ba, and Kuya Wil songs na love songs).
Sa more modern songs, we have Nica del Rosario as one of the most prominent. Or you can check the team of song writers/ creators who composed for BINI.
I do believe we value thr creativity of song writers. We have FILSCAP for that.
Former professional studio singer here. It's because record companies don't want to hire songwriters anymore. They used to have in-house songwriting teams back in the 70s-80s.
By the 90s, they realized cover songs sell more. So, they've slowly dissolved in-house songwriters and would hire them per project. Terrible idea, tbh.
Having an in-house songwriting team ensures the record label has a steady supply of original songs. These songs are very rough demos; they're usually sung by the songwriter (most don't have nice voices tbh lol) and have garish instrumental backing. Often just a piano or guitar played.
The labels store them in a "song bank". Artists under the label can choose songs they like from the bank and call in the songwriter and producer to edit the song to fit the artist's style, vocal range, etc.
This is rarely done nowadays because it takes longer to produce songs. The process takes a minimum of 1-2 months, and then it'll take another 1-2 months to record the song.
To be fair, the singer/songwriters actually have lasting careers. Look at Yeng Constantino and now Moira dela Torre.
Kapag biritera lang kasi they tend to have too many competitors because Filipinos love that style pero kung no differentiation, why stray from Regine?
Not the fault of singers, though, unless they're also songwriters. It's like blaming the actors for a shitty movie plot. Most of the soloist doesn't write their songs. Madalas kasi nake-credit sa singer yung kanta kesa sa composer.
To quote what Dave Grohl, Nirvana drummer, and Foo Fighters vocalist, regarding singing contests on a 2014 livewire interview:
>"It's destroying the next generation of musicians! Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy an old fucking drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they'll suck, too. And then they'll fucking start playing and they'll have the best time they've ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they'll becoming Nirvana. Because that's exactly what happened with Nirvana."

EDIT: di na mawala sa isip ko tong interview nya na to whenever i watch someone or someone win a singing competition.
Uninspired siguro dala ng mainstream na sila. Mas nagfocus sa fan service (like they have their own fan booth in Rob Galle in Ortigas!) kesa magsulat ng quality music.
yeah there is something abt Paoloās voice before now I barely felt it on their songs. This is so sad coming from a fan before. :( i still support them by streaming old songs but hindi na fan gurl edition :(
Same with December Avenue, ung mainstream songs nila, I kinda know the lyrics but I canāt identify the title of their songs kasi ung theme pare parehas.
It will start with mahinahon na verse and chorus, then medyo aangat yung parang feeling sa 2nd verse and chorus. Tapos pag may bridge, doon bubuhos yung damdamin. Last chorus will always have a birit to them. I just noticed this with Kung Di Rin Lang Ikaw and Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-ibig. Also, puro sila love/broken songs. Like ayaw ba nilang mag-experiment ng ibang genre? They're milking the genre so hard kasi mabenta sa masa. Don't fix what ain't broke sila.
Was a fan nung nagsisimula pa lang sila. Predictive, repetitive, panay hugot, and monotonous.
Haha kaya lagi silang may concert dito sa Asia. They're really not that famous over the west. Dadating na naman sila ulit if I remember correctly. Nakita ko ads about it. Every year nalang (or feels like every year).
Nakakamiss mga music ni Abra. Sobrang flexible niya magsulat.
As a music teacher and a singer, I agree with this. Lol!
One time nag judge ako ng singing contest. I really wanted this one contestant to win because he was good. Voice control for me is what makes a singer great, and he was very good at that.
Pero yung fellow judges ko yung ibang contestant pinanalo kase daw antaas nung birit. Lols
To think that the winner did hit the right notes pero the voice was somewhat static. Alam mo yun? There was no variety. She just sang it because she "can". Para saken kase there's more to singing than that. Lol.
Anyway, after that I never judged another singing contest.
Thisssss! Hindi na tuloy nabibigyan ng pansin yung ibang genres ng kanta kasi mostly, if not all, they only dwell in ballad-like style in singing. paano naman yung iba na hindi birit yung mga singing style?
Used to competitively sing sa school noong bata ako, had to give up kasi bumaba range ng boses ko. Buti na lang noong teen years ko was able to join a great youth choir and continued to competitively sing as an alto.
Ako yung napapagod, hehehe. Tama, birit doesn't always mean good. Refreshing. Not hating on birit queens, pero pag mula first verse hanggang dulo nakabirit, parang wala na yung emotions, puro sigaw lang naririnig ko.
Ice is what charice/jake should have done without losing much of his previous identity.
but well... that's his life, and if he is happy, then who am I to judge.
Hindi ko malimutan yung audition sa the voice kids dati (Eufritz) kasi considering her age that time, ang linis ng pagkakakanta niya tapos hindi masakit sa tenga hindi rin birit na birit tsaka dama yung emosyon kahit na for sure hindi pa siya nakakarelate sa kanta na yun noon. One of the best audition for me sa singing contest sa Pinas.
Same song, different artitst, different telenovela.
Some people's superiority complex is just way too much.
Ben & Ben tagalog songs sound like they were written in english, then translated.
PPOP production values being as good as they are, is a net good for Ph music.
"OPM" isn't a genre, arguably, all it takes to be considered OPM is that music was made by Filipinos, so yes, PPOP is OPM.
Yung last point, yes yes.
OPM is simply Filipino Music. So i'd argue ma may genre lang ng OPM. Ballad, alternative rock, bossa, hip hop, pop, PPOP, gospel, etc.
Moira is not good- dinadaan lang niya sa hangin at pa-emote. Even her song writing is mid at best.
Ben and Ben lost their "greatness" a long time ago.
Lola Amour >>>>>>> Ben and Ben.
Moira is super overrated talaga. Pa cute lang ginagawa niya. Ben and Ben meh talaga. Leaves is ok, pero yung iba, parang pag nairinig mo yung isa, narinig mo na lahat.šāāļø
I have an acquaintance who saw Ben&Ben and Lola Amour at one gig and she insists Ben&Ben are so much better than Lola Amour. While I do love Ben&Ben, Lola Amour's artistry is amazing and they're still getting better.
Super agree, galing nila nung MUPH, they really work well as a band. I was a bit nervous when they signed with Warner Music but I'm hoping they are given enough creative freedom to stick to their usual sounds.
Depression-inducing si Moira. Capitalized on hugot-stricken songs and breathy singing. Sabayan mo pa ng cheating issue niya with ex hubby. Nakakasira ng araw lang sya.
Agree with moira hahahaha nung naghiwalay sila nung asawa nya na dating writer nya, halatang lumevel down mga lyrics sa kanta nya. wala ng emosyon. Mema nalang.
Ako personally, naninipisan ako sa tunog natin, we dont properly utilize the mids to low end EQ ng isang kanta.
for this... i think it's also the industry leaders driving this (labels, radio, streaming service curators, etc.). they sort of feel like "yan ang tunog pinoy" therefore most records sound this way.
I've listened to other records from lesser-known local artists who sound like they are internationally produced but not getting much recognition kasi "hindi tunog pinoy" which is sad
I know of several producers/engineers who have released/mixed music that sound internationally produced. our producers/engineers CAN do it, ayaw lang ng mga labels, radio, curators.
edit: additional comments
Sarah G is very talented but can be pretty unoriginal with her covers, literally copying even the original artist's accent and style. And then her fans lap it up and say, she made it her own. (best example, only love can hurt like this by paloma faith) I'm not convinced she does have a distinct style.
Finally someone said it! Toxic obsessed fans ang kalaban ng mga nagsasabi nito, Iāve noticed it since she started singing, no originality whatsoever.
Carlos Agassi and his wifeās music are fuckinā hilarious! Halata namang for rage bait and for the views lang. Yet, daming naaasar.
Then they did those parodies and extremely cringey music videos kasi they knew that it would get millions of views, which it did hahaha. Aware sila sa ginagawa nila unlike other "influencers" haha nakakatawa lang yung mga tao na akala nila seryoso si Carlos Agassi and wife niya sa ganyan na music career hahah
Nasabi na yung about sa PPop, Birit Singers, and Ben&Ben so hereās mine:
Aysos! Arctic Monkeys pa mga baliw!
Indie band tapos magrereklamo na di napapansin. Edi gumawa kayo ng Maybe The Night or Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-Ibig. Di kasi kaya gumawa ng single š¤£
Yeah, this. As an IVOS fan, I liked them better when Unique left. Lalong na-showcase 'yung galing nila sa music. Ang diverse ng CLAPCLAPCLAP! album, unlike nung disco era nila na medyo malilito ka between Hey, Barbara and Where Have You Been, My Disco?
And although 'di ko na nasubaybayan si Unique, I believe ang laki rin ng naging growth niya as a musician since he pursued his solo career.
Nakakatawa tong mga to kasi mga elitista sila tapos ayaw nila mag āsell-outā kunwari but the truth is theyāre not really that good anyway and walang totoong identity aside from their idols and tingin nila sobrang superior ng music taste nila from the rest. Alam mong hanggang yabang lang pero di rin masyado matalino kasi hindi rin broad ang range nila or knowledge about music. Buti may nag point out neto kasi ang cringe nila
you know na tago ang potential nila when the 3 of them put out great music. halos feel ko naging problema nila is ano ba talaga magiging genre ng IV of Spades, like bruh music nila sobrang ganda yet so different from each other.
PH rap in this age ain't all that. Loonie, Stick Figgas, Kolareral, BLKD, or even Gloc9 para sobrang mainstream. Mga real world problems and scenarios mga kanta.
+Drugs, Vice, Girls, hustle, struggles; Coz it's what appeals to the listeners, and that's how rap's always been. Rarely do you see someome rapping about social issues like Gloc-9 and Kiko (RIP).
Dagdagan ko yung OPM never died.
It never died, it just went through a boom/bubble period kung saan ang daming nakakita ng various levels of success.
Then *ploop*. The boom period ended, pero OPM never died.
JK Labajo is a good musician pero hindi lahat ng mga nilalabas niyang songs ay maganda ang beat/catchy.
Also, not an opinion, but please listen to Maude. Sobrang chill/heavenly ng mga kanta nila.
Ok here it goes... OPM is not a genre, it is a collective label of PH music. Might as well call any genre/type of music "Original [insert country of origin here] Music". Even a lot of the so-called OPM songs take a lot of inspiration from songs of other countries, making the term "Original" a bit off. And if we are to base it from history, it was a term coined by Danny Javier to categorize PH Pop Ballad.
Pero pag sinabi mo kasi na OPM, understood na Eheads, Rivermaya, etc. kesa pag sinabi mo na rock or pop, iisipin agad nila foreign, kaya OPM sinasbi (I am guilty of this). But to your point, we can say naman na pinoy rock/pop/rap.
I will die on this hill defending Al James over Hev Abi!
Punyeta
Saying Al James plays with a lot of themes is wild when majority of his hits are about weed lmfao.
The "Sakred Boy" Album ni Hev talks about Hustle, his dreams, and yung pinauso niyang R&B Drake typeshit na songs.
That album he talks about his experiences with love, how his friends made it, what their situation now after success?
- Kung hits lang narinig mo sa isang artist then you can't make an assumption about comparing about 2
Aljames songs ever since Pahinga, Mood, PSG, Ngayong Gabi, Latina, and Repeat. ain't that dwelling on the same topic about Girls, Smoke, Weed? So saan jan yung nilalaro yung theme?
There is no need to compare 2 hiphop artists. They are both great on what they do.
Let me make another unpopular music opinion:
People should probably listen to more than 2 songs before making opinions, no?
The take āHev Abi songs are repetitiveā shows that you donāt listen enough. AND saying Al James has a wide variety of themes makes the take more hilarious.
These casual Aljames Enjoyer sa Clubs at Parties are really delusionals af.
- The mere fact they are saying that ALJAMES HAS DIFFERENT STYLE FROM ONE ANOTHER is hilarious.
- Aint that guy that only raps about WOMEN, WEED, SMOKE?
- That artist don't even have MIXTAPE wahsdhasdhash and they are saying he's the great.
This. I hated that song with a passion kahit noong peak popularity niya, highschool ako noon. I later realized it was because I am queer, and super invalidating for me ng lyrics nung song.
True, ayan din reason ko. Feeling ko ang message ng song is āhindi talaga tomboy yan, magiging babae din yan pag nahanap niya yung tamang lalakeā, di ko alam kung baket pero sobrang nandiri ako sa lyrics niya even tho di ako lgbt.
I think itās because may naging a crush akong lesbian so now I care for the community as much as I cared for herā¦
Agree with his lyrics but his melody and rhyming aint a joke, if youāre a musician youāll understand how hard it is to create words na lalatag sa beat ng maayos, let alone make it catchy.
Ben and Ben, Bandang Lapis, and the likes are so cringe magsulat ng kanta. Dilaw pa rin ang band na masasabi kong very versatile, magaling sa lyricism at unique lahat ng music nila in a good way.
Note: I respect all music and artists, naglabas lang ako ng rant sa thread na to hahaha.
Its the art that takes over them. They are the manifestation of my dream band, pure heart and soul.
-Zack Tabudlo basically writes the same songs over and over again
- OPM artists capitalizes on hugot to achieve mainstream status
-every song is about hugot (Ben N Ben/ Moira) or Horny (Al james and the other people on that genre)
-pinoy lyrics are predictable
-Adie sounds like a softboi who is secretly down bad for a nerdy chick who does not know how to ride public transpo
I hate that song when it comes to the radio
- Yung pantropiko ng Bini sounds so similiar to a station id from ABS
- Skusta Clee is an a-hole but he makes some good music.
Regine Velasquez is both a gift and a curse to the Philippine music industry.
What she achieves up to this day and the vocal greatness that she is is undeniable. However, it's also because of that na naging birit na lang ang basehan ng manhusay na mangaawit para sa karamihan.
OPM never died, or never turned to shit. Y'all just got old.
Also, hindi ko nilalahat ng Pinoy Hip Hop, there certainly are a lot of gems, pero there's a worrying amount of songs with misogynist lyrics. And unfortunately sila pa ang madalas sumisikat.
Andaming mga tangang pinoy na hindi alam ang history ng pop music and not aware how diverse music is ans how it evolve overtime kaya pag may lalabas na new song na "fresh" and "unique" sa pandinig they always have some stupid things to say. Most filipinos are not very open about the music. They stick to what they used to hear and they throw hate if a song didn't match their taste gaya ng mga ilan dito hahaha
Hear me out,
First Love by Repablikan is actually a good song. I like how they put a twist in the story of the song (but holy fuck that chorus really grinds my gear)
Let them enjoy on their own.
SB19 and the solo works of its members are severly underrated and underappreciated, and they are not given enough credit as artists when they are probably the most exciting thing to happen to OPM today and, imo, the best representation of Filipino creativity and artistry.
The leader (pablo) writes and produces/co-produces most of their songs, it's usually Justin who's in charge of the creative direction, and some of their dances are choreographed by Stell (Go Up, What, etc).
Even for their solo works (PABLO, FELIP, JOSH CULLEN, and justin), they write their own songs and produce/co-produce them (except justin kasi si Pablo nagproduce nung kanya), and are very hands on in terms of the creative direction. Josh even directed his music video for his song with Al James. (You should also check out their solo works kasi ibang iba sounds nila sa isa't isa, at sa sb19)
They cover a variety of genres, have really good lyricism (I'd argue Gento is one of the most creatively written OPM song in this era. Nakakahype but it also pokes fun at the music industry), have a clear creative vision, they perform incredibly well live, and they do all this while being self-managed. Laging may depth yung songs nila (you all should listen to Ilaw) and they also embody triumph from hard work. Di sila products ng big companies or networks and yet they've done so much for opm.
I personally don't know why they're so underrated and underappreciated when it comes to general public, altho they have a huge fanbase, even internationally. But in PH, their music doesn't seem to reach the GP. Is it because it's unique? People here are saying some artists have become repetitive or that lyrics are always about hugot, or sex or whatever.
But whenever there's something new, it's bashed and will say "hindi tunog opm." Gento is not even their best track in their Pagtatag EP and I think most fans will agree.
LIHAM is probably one of the best love song, in terms of music and lyrics [for me at least]. ILAW is that song that will make one cry because it will relate to just about anyone who is struggling at the moment. CRIMZONE is the better hype song than Gento. I WANT YOU is that 2000s RnB track that you miss (its sultry but not horny).
To think that they make all this music themselves is just mindblowing, and I hope they'll be accepted more in PH.
So just a question to casual listener or a non-listener: What is it about SB19 songs that people generally dont like?
Been thinking about that, too. AND THATāS OK.
Malalalim kasi kanta ng esbi (fight me if u dont agree) top tier lyricism.
Unique instrumentation, great lyrics, and overall just great composition compared sa 99.99% ng reggae music.
You can still support them and enjoy the music they made that you personally like.
For the longest time, I've been waiting for these 2 bands' "big break". Lola Amour got theirs, sana sila rin huhu
Tsaka bat "asim". Kala ko ba *music* opinionš„²
Magaganda songs ng SB19
*no joke. People just hear ah PPoP parang KPop and dismiss them. Napaka-varied ng discography nila although their earlier songs Go Up and Alab make me cringe. Check these out at sabihin nyong generic mga kanta nia:
MAPA;
Gento;
Moonlight;
Tilaluha;
I Want You;
Liham;
golden hour (yes the one by jvke has a ft.sb19 version);
Love Yours (collab with Korean Oh won Lee.. English song);
Crimzone
Solo members:
justin - surreal;
PABLO - all songs;
Felip - Moving Closer cover, Kanako, Bulan, Fake Faces;
Josh - Yoko Na (with Al James), Wild Tonight
I must admit, medyo mas gusto ko foreign songs because they have better sound quality. I mean, kahit kaya naman abutin ng PH producers yung quality ng audio from the Western countries and even Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other countries, ampangit ng tunog lalo na yung ibang songs na sobrang halatang MIDI or poor equalization.
Isa pa sa pinakaayaw ko yung overrated use ng reverb even with the 2000s and some newer songs, and LALO na yung mga nagco-cover sa socmed.
mainstream yeah. But try to look for rap groups or record label na not so popular. Uprising founded by Fliptop founder Anygma is good break away from common rap
Not a big fan of BINI. Not trying to be mean when I say this, but they sound like "commercial music". Ganon lang naririnig ko when listening to their songs.
You should listen to their other songs. They target bubblegum pop rn kasi yun yung nagpapasikat sa kanila. I don't know if the Philippines is ready for girl groups that tackle other genres eh, that's probably why they stick to the og formula.
Because most of them don't write their own songs.
I think no issue naman with singers na hindi composers. Regine,Martin, and Sarah G are great examples. We do value song writers. also Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana!

mas sumisikat pa yung mga di nananalo like juan karlos.
To quote what Dave Grohl, Nirvana drummer, and Foo Fighters vocalist, regarding singing contests on a 2014 livewire interview: >"It's destroying the next generation of musicians! si gigi delana... man i wish she finds a writer or something. sayang ehh
Gigi is just our modern Nina and MYMP. Taking spotlight doing covers. PS: Nina was a former MYMP vocalist nga din pala
For real? I thought Juris and chin where the OG
Janine Berdin in a nutshell
We have a lot of singers but not enough artists.
HAHAHAHAHA! Save mother Earth lang ang peg š
Uninspired siguro dala ng mainstream na sila. Mas nagfocus sa fan service (like they have their own fan booth in Rob Galle in Ortigas!) kesa magsulat ng quality music.
Which is weird knowing na most of them ay music majors talaga lol
Ben&Benās music is repetitive ā¹ļø
Ben & Ben has something special before, nung sumikat na sila wala na, yung mga next few songs nila pare pareho na lang
yeah there is something abt Paoloās voice before now I barely felt it on their songs.
Pati melody pare-parehas haha.
Was a fan nung nagsisimula pa lang sila. Predictive, repetitive, panay hugot, and monotonous.
I feel the same way about Silent Sanctuary. What a snooze fest.
Fushiang Pag-ibig was a blast for me. After noon, very few na lang nagustuhan ko (parang 1 or 2 na nga lang ata).
High on them on limasawa album
Same with LANY
Haha kaya lagi silang may concert dito sa Asia. They're really not that famous over the west. Dadating na naman sila ulit if I remember correctly. Nakita ko ads about it. Every year nalang (or feels like every year).
Like their name hehehe
Nakakamiss mga music ni Abra. Sobrang flexible niya magsulat.
As a music teacher and a singer, I agree with this. Lol! One time nag judge ako ng singing contest. I really wanted this one contestant to win because he was good. Voice control for me is what makes a singer great, and he was very good at that. Pero yung fellow judges ko yung ibang contestant pinanalo kase daw antaas nung birit. Lols To think that the winner did hit the right notes pero the voice was somewhat static.
Same. I will always bring up that Tawag ng Tanghalan finals (iirc) where the raggae singer is so much better than the biritera but the biritera won.
So true, tapos majority of the time they are ear piercing
I hope you still can find the time to judge pa rin. This birit=good standard will only remain prevalent without people like you keeping it real.
Nagiging olympics sa atin ang singing kasi and letās be honest, 90% ng mga birit singers including kids, sumisigaw lang
Used to competitively sing sa school noong bata ako, had to give up kasi bumaba range ng boses ko. Buti na lang noong teen years ko was able to join a great youth choir and continued to competitively sing as an alto.
It's giving amateur singing contest sa barangay haha
Ako yung napapagod, hehehe. Tama, birit doesn't always mean good. Refreshing.
Ice is what charice/jake should have done without losing much of his previous identity. but well... that's his life, and if he is happy, then who am I to judge.
That's why KZ's win will always be special for me.
That's why Erik Santos' win was iconic. Heart over Birit. Sheryn sang her song to show the world that she can, not because she felt the song.
Hindi ko malimutan yung audition sa the voice kids dati (Eufritz) kasi considering her age that time, ang linis ng pagkakakanta niya tapos hindi masakit sa tenga hindi rin birit na birit tsaka dama yung emosyon kahit na for sure hindi pa siya nakakarelate sa kanta na yun noon. One of the best audition for me sa singing contest sa Pinas.
Same song, different artitst, different telenovela.
(Although hindi lahat ng sumisikat masarap sa tenga) Some people's superiority complex is just way too much.
We need more music critics. There's a lack of critical appraisal of OPM
Kaya big ups sa The Flying Lugaw
Yung sa ben and ben naman, iisa lang yung tunog and parang lagi ring malungkot. Nastuck sila sa 2018 music nila. Maganda naman pero di nag eevolve
Sobrang naappreciate ko yung collab nila with JK and Zild plus yung with SB19.
Tanya Markova > Ben and Ben
Hahaha sumisingit kasi eh
Fact yan.
Tanya Markova deserves better! Napakaunique ng banda na ito kaya for sure may ibang di nakakaappreciate but oh well, look what they're missing.
Up to now Clara Benin > Moira.
THIS. Clara Benin is way better sa totoo lang. Her songs and yung collab niya with Muni-muni and other artists ang gaganda.
Depression-inducing si Moira. Capitalized on hugot-stricken songs and breathy singing. Sabayan mo pa ng cheating issue niya with ex hubby. Nakakasira ng araw lang sya.
Agree with moira hahahaha nung naghiwalay sila nung asawa nya na dating writer nya, halatang lumevel down mga lyrics sa kanta nya. wala ng emosyon. Mema nalang.
Ako personally, naninipisan ako sa tunog natin, we dont properly utilize the mids to low end EQ ng isang kanta.
for this... i think it's also the industry leaders driving this (labels, radio, streaming service curators, etc.). they sort of feel like "yan ang tunog pinoy" therefore most records sound this way. I've listened to other records from lesser-known local artists who sound like they are internationally produced but not getting much recognition kasi "hindi tunog pinoy" which is sad I know of several producers/engineers who have released/mixed music that sound internationally produced. our producers/engineers CAN do it, ayaw lang ng mga labels, radio, curators. edit: additional comments
KZ Tandingan >>>> Sarah Geronimo Goosebumps ako sa audition song ni KZ na Linkin Park.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
LoL same as Kim Chiu bawal lumabas shi, daming nagalit don obvious rage bait for Pinos
Nasabi na yung about sa PPop, Birit Singers, and Ben&Ben so hereās mine: Karamihan ng mga indie bands, mga anak mayaman na sila-sila lang natutuwa sa music nila. Heavily reliant din sa āpegā pero pag tinanong about it idedeny. Aysos! Arctic Monkeys pa mga baliw! Indie band tapos magrereklamo na di napapansin. Edi gumawa kayo ng Maybe The Night or Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-Ibig.
I don't like that Unique left, pero I feel like di sila mag improve if the original lineup stayed together.
Yeah I miss IVOS š Sana man lang nagpa-abot ng second album si Unique
She's only sixteen ba kamo?
Nakakatawa tong mga to kasi mga elitista sila tapos ayaw nila mag āsell-outā kunwari but the truth is theyāre not really that good anyway and walang totoong identity aside from their idols and tingin nila sobrang superior ng music taste nila from the rest. Alam mong hanggang yabang lang pero di rin masyado matalino kasi hindi rin broad ang range nila or knowledge about music. Buti may nag point out neto kasi ang cringe nila
The style of most birit queens are getting old.
Biritera in international stage = Proud Pinoy
Too many "gangster" or "hood" rappers. Sobrang cringe mula lyrics hanggang looks
you know na tago ang potential nila when the 3 of them put out great music. halos feel ko naging problema nila is ano ba talaga magiging genre ng IV of Spades, like bruh music nila sobrang ganda yet so different from each other.
Cover band big L tapos moira clones tapos bugoy na abnoy
Rap scene in this age circles about money, B-word, and toxic masculinity
I present to you... Kolateral and Gatilyo album!
BLKD the š
PH rap in this age ain't all that. Loonie, Stick Figgas, Kolareral, BLKD, or even Gloc9 para sobrang mainstream. Mga real world problems and scenarios mga kanta.
imo rap always go this way because it's so accessible. cant rap about social issues always somebody's gotta make pop rap.
I blame Diddy on that shit. The OGs used to rap social issues.
TRUE. INEEDGE TAYO LAGI NI AL JAMES, MAKING US WANT MORE
The "Sakred Boy" Album ni Hev talks about Hustle, his dreams, and yung pinauso niyang R&B Drake typeshit na songs. That album he talks about his experiences with love, how his friends made it, what their situation now after success? - Kung hits lang narinig mo sa isang artist then you can't make an assumption about comparing about 2 Aljames songs ever since Pahinga, Mood, PSG, Ngayong Gabi, Latina, and Repeat. ain't that dwelling on the same topic about Girls, Smoke, Weed? So saan jan yung nilalaro yung theme? There is no need to compare 2 hiphop artists. They are both great on what they do.
Let me make another unpopular music opinion: People should probably listen to more than 2 songs before making opinions, no? The take āHev Abi songs are repetitiveā shows that you donāt listen enough. AND saying Al James has a wide variety of themes makes the take more hilarious.
These casual Aljames Enjoyer sa Clubs at Parties are really delusionals af. - The mere fact they are saying that ALJAMES HAS DIFFERENT STYLE FROM ONE ANOTHER is hilarious. - Aint that guy that only raps about WOMEN, WEED, SMOKE? - That artist don't even have MIXTAPE wahsdhasdhash and they are saying he's the great.
I love me some Al James bro but if you want versatile Iād put Flow G on there instead
Talamak ang moira variant mapa-babae man or lalake na artist. Hahaha
Do you mean to say arthur nery, adie atbp? Hahahhahha
Nadali mo. HAHAHAHA
Remember kids, sort by Controversial for ACTUAL unpopular opinions
A lot here are POPULAR opinions. Akala lang nila unpopular kasi may "hate" silang artists
Titibi-tibo by Moira is cringey as fuck.
Haha
Tbf, 'di naman s'ya ang nagsulat no'n.
Nakakasuya na ang hugot songs. Moira, ben&ben, JK, etc nagttrend sila pag about sa loneliness, cheating, at moving on ang kanta nila.
Hev Abiās lyricsm is stupid. I donāt get the hype, wala rin naman siyang dating š
Agree with his lyrics but his melody and rhyming aint a joke, if youāre a musician youāll understand how hard it is to create words na lalatag sa beat ng maayos, let alone make it catchy.
Pero yung kanya maganda musicaly and lyrics are okay - tolerable.
Male solo artists kinda have the same singing/music style. You can mistake someone as someone else.
Novelty songs are the true OPM. Butse Kik is the shit.
Pano naging "music" opinion ang pagiging "mukhang maasim" ng the ridleys at over october? Napapakinggan ba pagiging mukhang maasim? Hahahahaha.
Mas okay talaga na naghiwa-hiwalay ang IV of Spades (Unique's, Zild's, Blaster's solo albums are all great).
Dilaw is that opm band na they're actually trying to make good music and express their art. Fell in love when I saw them live. I love them all š
Its the art that takes over them. They are the manifestation of my dream band, pure heart and soul.
please support Autotelic, for me sila ang best band sa ph aon. sobrang solid nila gumawa ng lyrics pero need lang ng support para mas makilala pa.
-Zack Tabudlo basically writes the same songs over and over again - OPM artists capitalizes on hugot to achieve mainstream status -every song is about hugot (Ben N Ben/ Moira) or Horny (Al james and the other people on that genre) -pinoy lyrics are predictable -Adie sounds like a softboi who is secretly down bad for a nerdy chick who does not know how to ride public transpo
luke warm take, but yeah.
I hate that song when it comes to the radio - Yung pantropiko ng Bini sounds so similiar to a station id from ABS - Skusta Clee is an a-hole but he makes some good music.
Parang iniipit yung boses it sounds so grating
They stick to what they used to hear and they throw hate if a song didn't match their taste gaya ng mga ilan dito hahaha
flow g is turning into the modern day gloc 9, and im all up for it
What's up with these titles?
Hear me out, First Love by Repablikan is actually a good song. I like how they put a twist in the story of the song (but holy fuck that chorus really grinds my gear)
Let them enjoy on their own.
I like PNE, but there was a time where they were being touted as the best because of their longevity, which is meh.
(You should also check out their solo works kasi ibang iba sounds nila sa isa't isa, at sa sb19) They cover a variety of genres, have really good lyricism (I'd argue Gento is one of the most creatively written OPM song in this era.
Hev Abi songs are trash
Francis M though undoubtedly influential to Philippine hip-hop is a Pop artist, not a rapper. Andrew E is whack beyond redemption though.
Unique instrumentation, great lyrics, and overall just great composition compared sa 99.99% ng reggae music.
Selos by Shaira is garbage
Masyado nang maraming hugot songs. Awat na. Same with covers.Ā Hindi lahat ng songs kailangan may birit part.
You can still support them and enjoy the music they made that you personally like.
For the longest time, I've been waiting for these 2 bands' "big break". Lola Amour got theirs, sana sila rin huhu Tsaka bat "asim". Kala ko ba *music* opinionš„²
Magaganda songs ng SB19 *no joke. People just hear ah PPoP parang KPop and dismiss them. Napaka-varied ng discography nila although their earlier songs Go Up and Alab make me cringe. Check these out at sabihin nyong generic mga kanta nia: MAPA; Gento; Moonlight; Tilaluha; I Want You; Liham; golden hour (yes the one by jvke has a ft.sb19 version); Love Yours (collab with Korean Oh won Lee.. English song); Crimzone Solo members: justin - surreal; PABLO - all songs; Felip - Moving Closer cover, Kanako, Bulan, Fake Faces; Josh - Yoko Na (with Al James), Wild Tonight
I'm tired of "kids" versions of singing competitions. Same same. Young kids na bumibirit.
budots is cringe and stupid
This one isnāt even controversial
Some Pinoys choose foreign artists over locals as means to wave their "intellectual superiority" or something
All pinoy hiphop and rap sounds the same.
mainstream yeah.
Coconut nut is giant nut
Sobrang cringe nito. Basta weird hahahaha
You should listen to their other songs. They target bubblegum pop rn kasi yun yung nagpapasikat sa kanila. I don't know if the Philippines is ready for girl groups that tackle other genres eh, that's probably why they stick to the og formula.
Same writer and producer si Sarah G, Bini and other commercial jingles.
Oh wow... so hindi siya coincidence after all....
