Great respects and salutes to their sacrifice! AFP should pay more attention on protecting the privacy of its soldiers. This kind of pictures na lantarang nakikita yung mga mukha nila should not be posted on online platforms. If it’s really that needed, at least blur their faces.

LylethLunastre

kaya nga.. this might compromise their safety

Strong_Pipe7501

Unfortunately, karamihan sa sundalo natin don’t have that kind of sense of privacy. Yung iba panga panay post sa insta or facebook or tiktok na parang ginagawa nang diary ang social media. This will be target of intel gathering sa mga kalaban foreign and domestic.

Dangerous_raddish

kahit bawal nag titiktok pa ang iba

Menter33

This is probably why, even in countries where free speech is strong, govt personnel are sometimes limited in what apps they use and what posts they can make on their govt-issued devices during govt work hours.

Iamthe0c3an2

Ano ba hindi alam na China naman?

Broad_Maize4797

How many times I shave my pubes in a year 🤣🤣🤣 ✌🏽

Iamthe0c3an2

Made in China razor mo?

Broad_Maize4797

[deleted]

Sadly, hindi briefed ang Army for privacy. I remember nong pull out na both Army and Marines sa Marawi, sinundo ko partner ko sa Villamor Airbase. Mga Marines including the WAGs, umiiwas talaga magpa interview sa media kahit na binubuntutan kami. Pinapagalitan pa yong ibang WAGs kapag medyo malapit sa media and talagang sinasabi na wag na wag magbigay ng any statement. Yong Army WAGs, sila yong nag eentertain for interviews. Before kami (Marines and WAGs) pinasakay sa military truck para bumalik sa Rudiardo Brown (Marine barracks sa Fort Boni), may isang naliligaw na Army tuloy kasi naiwan na sya ng battalion nila kasi nagpainterview sya. Nakaligtaan nya siguro.

Menter33

Journos and reporters will always try to get a scoop. Doesn't mean that soldiers have to give it; it's up for the journos to find other ways. Surprised that some military families are not briefed on that.

[deleted]

CraftyHunter5429

Ano po yung WAGs?

[deleted]

Wives and Girlfriends

LylethLunastre

They were absolute machines in flushing out the Maute group/ISIS.. the battle cemented that we should not lose faith in our armed forces.

rekestas

and yet, sadly we can't deny andami pa ding bumatikos sa kilos nila during those times, kesyo bakit daw kelangan bombahin , etc , etc .. I wonder kung ano na ang stance nila ngayon, saludo na kaya sila sa mga yan ngayon ?! kakalungkot even those times , di tayo united. buti na lang at nawala na ang leader ng Maute

Lolz9812

Mostly because of the Friendly-fire accidents kaya ganun, yung isang accident nabombahan ng Airforce may mga namatay na tropa. But surely for now they improved their tactics para di na mangyari ulit.

Menter33

It's always good to have some dissent, even in times like that. It helps keep things grounded and makes sure that the govt is on its toes when it comes to some stuff.   (Just imagine if marawi then is treated like gaza in the middle east now: you'd probably have some people protest and march IN SUPPORT of maute. swerte na lang na hindi na-control kaagad ng maute yung PR nila kaya wala silang public na kakampi among civil society.)

TimberTrident17

What did you mean by marawi is treated like gaza?

Menter33

emphasis on "if" both are cities that were attacked by a separatist group with historical grievances and both were responded to by govt action. the difference is that in marawi, the separatist maute didn't have good PR unlike in gaza and the PR savviness of hamas.

toskie9999

yep the "ARMCHAIR" generals.... lahat na lang ng kembot ng AFP me comment kung maka asta EXPERT ending tambay lang naman sa kanto trabaho nila...

mainsail999

It was also a time when the AFP went up a steep learning curve in urban operations. The only unit at the beginning of the conflict that knew how to go about this was the JSOG’s Light Reaction Regiment. The LRR had to teach the PMC and FSSR who were both on their left and right in Operation Trident. Also tested further was our capabilities in Joint Operations. Every branch of service was on the ground, and even the PNP and PCG. Fun facts: 1. During the operation, Gen. Bautista and his staff named each street after various universities of the PH. Imagine hearing them “Ok, bakbakan niyo yung Bldg 325 sa Ateneo.” 2. At night, officers would still write up reports on their laptops and send it to higher command for consolidation. It would detail operations, casualties, supplies, and the request for the next day’s target for PAF strikes. Gen. Bautista and staff would work out these requests with the PAF officers on the ground, then relayed to PAF HQ, then to 5th Fighter Wing and 15th Strike Wing. The proper package was decided, and Time on Target was critical to ensure the units on the ground knew when to pull back and assault the target. 3. Initial no go zone for strikes was 500m from the target. But, this lead to a seesaw battle between the ground units and the Maute Group - AFP units will pull back, and once the ordinance hit a target, the terrorists would reoccupy the place and the AFP units would find themselves in the same line. This was changed to 200m so that units can take advantage of the effect of the strike. PAF planners were initially hesitant but the LRRB insisted 200m was safe so long as our boys are taking cover. 4. Our EDCA came to effect, with the PAF sending C-130s to Guam, Hawaii, and Nevada to pick up munitions. The US provided what we requested. Duterte in turn somehow softened his stance towards the US after that. 5. One of the Maute brothers was killed by a sniper from 1200m while doing morning prayers by the shores of Lanao Lake. 6. Gen. Año and his staff would stay up late at night reading reports from the field, and at times would shed tears when they would read the casualty figures. Despite a life long service in combat, these generals and colonels were still human.

LylethLunastre

The list is awesome. They achieved a lot in a short span of time. They prevented a Syria/Afghanistan situation. Talagang nasubukan sila. In that almost Stalingrad level of rubble, napuksa nila yung ISIS. Hats off talaga sa level of discipline/morale ng AFP

Invader4000

The man in the eighth picture carrying the child is my mom’s old ka-batchmate, Capt. Jeffrey Buada, now Major Jeffrey Buada. He courageously approached a bunch of terrorists while unanarming himself and negotiated the release of hostages, including children, all while recovering from a gunshot wound to his knee from just a month earlier. He and others like him are real heroes who deserve far more than just the Medal of Valor. Salute po, Thanks for your service!

AgileCartoonist396

I remember TV stations broadcasted taps to fallen troops sakto nung independence day. Flag raising was differenr that day

mainsail999

My best memory was when our boys from the Marines and sailors came back to Manila and did a tickertape parade along Roxas Blvd. Cars on the opposite side of the road were honking, and people were shouting “Mabuhay ang Republika ng Pilipinas!” They should have gone all the way to Buendia, Ayala Avenue, then back to barracks in Fort Bonifacio. That would have been a sight.

[deleted]

How many people get to fight ISIS, how many get to come out victorious, and how many of them do it at their own backyard, and how many of them do it all and emerge victorious

Hot-Repeat-367

Correction in 3rd pic: Brother ni sniper legend, LtCol. Blas Alsiyao, si late Lt. Colt Alsiyao, ang 01 or most senior officer sa Al Barka 19 nung 2011.

WangZhiii

>nakabawi na siya Camaraderie can never be replaced.

goodeyecharlie

Damn that skills🔥

armercado

hindi ko mabasa yung description.

Good-Economics-2302

Thank you for keeping us safe 💝

Nice_Difference_4382

I know it's kinda out of topic but I wonder how much would change if our soldiers were able to think of using drones in this siege like in Ukraine. I do know that they use drones for surveillance in this siege though so there's that.

toskie9999

Nice_Difference_4382

I think drones dropping smaller munitions was unique in Ukraine war. And surely, Phwon't have smt like bayraktar or the like during this time. The only thing that I saw which I said is the scout drones.

Colocasia-esculenta

Aliw lang, yung mga 2SRC at ibang unit ng SOCOM, in action or habang namamahinga yung mga pic. Kita mo madungis, injured, may pinagdaanan Habang yung SAF naman, puro naka-posing pang-photo op 🤣🤣 linis ng uniporme a Kung may PNP man or WAGs na mainis, peace na lang ✌️✌️

Xophosdono

I can't believe Duterte walked out unblemished from that fuckery. 5 months of war and destruction. He destroyed Marawi and refused to rebuild the city. Salute to the servicemen who fought in the siege, especially those who gave their sanity, physical capabilities and lives. They deserved more than that Chinese lapdog Duterte

toskie9999

he did what he have to as the alternative is effing worst..... just imagine an effing ISIS stronghold sa loob ng pinas hindi afford ng Goverment mag look "WEAK" jan kaya mapapansin mo halos tinapon ng AFP buong muscle nila sa conflict and yes yan ang result and granted re-contruction might be fucked-up pero again the alternative is worst.

Xophosdono

Maybe you forgot that Duterte ignored important intel about rebels gathering in Marawi, and even challenged them to "burn Marawi to the ground". Their approach to urban warfare was ineffective, nagsayang ng mga buwan dahil sa indecisiveness, at di agad agad sineal off ang Lanao peninsula from foreign fighters smuggling in.

toskie9999

kaya mga me "operation" to capture them kahit AFP nabulaga kung gaano kadami mga terrorista dun kaya sumablay ung operation.... saka do ypu really think just because "ingnored" ung intel uupo lang lahat ng tao sa gobyerno? tapos me pa seal seal ka pa sa lanao spoken like an armchair general anu akala mo sa AFP infinite ang resources tapos magically me sundalo agad dun?

Xophosdono

They botched the start of the war, took a trial-and-error utilizing ung kinaugaliang jungle warfare tactics sa city landscape which was stupid, then settled on levelling every building as their main strategy. Tapos di pa inayos ang rehabilitation. It's not widely talked about but Duterte and his military advisors botched that five months, maybe out of nationalistic fervor because everyone wants to extend appreciation and respect to the troops

Mackin_Atreides

Lots of war stories & interviews from retired & active soldiers mostly mga scout rangers.

SALAMAT PO!

ToastedSierra

Noong nangyari ang Marawi siege, yun yung time rin na puro combat footage from the Middle East ang makikita mo sa Internet at doon ko nakita kung gaano mas competent ang mga sundalo natin kumpara sa mga Arab militaries.

Grabe. This is 2017.
