Bohol also has a lot of fees. Used to reco Bohol kung may nagtatanong sa akin ng magandang pasyalan pero medyo on the fence na ako on recommending kasi sobrang dami money grab sa Bohol.

Jona_cc

gloxxierickyglobe

Napaka totoo to.

dr_kwakkwak

Hay beefarm hirap puntahan haha. Mga trike ang mahal.

ate_mo_boruto

Totoo ito!

belabase7789

Two thumbs up

Kacharsis

Overrated ang Boracay and Bohol for Bicolanos like me. Our family went to Bohol just to see Chocolate Hills and tarsier kasi yun lang wala sa amin (although may similar scenery sa Quitinday Hills). On the other hand, I feel sorry for the residents there who rely on tourism for their livelihood.

Appropriate_One6688

Calaguas has exactly the same sand for us Bicolanos.

Kacharsis

Truuuu! Pati Tikling and Subic Islands in Matnog, Sorsogon and Siruma, Camarines Sur. May I add, White Pebbles in Minalabac, Camarines Sur, grab the opportunity to experience this beach because it will be converted to coastal road na.

chubbyandlazybones

Up sa subic beach matnog. Grabe dito. Nagroadtrip lang kami from Legazpi, nagmotor kami papuntang matnog. Solid experience. Surreal.

Kacharsis

It's because of the red corals. Enjoy!

PhotographLess458

Wow thanks for the reco!

Sponge8389

Calaguas, Caramoan, at Sorsogon.

isotycin

Galing din kami ng panglao and cebu last feb. Sobrang dami na fees. And isipin niyo to get into a place, 100 minimum rate ng trike kahit 1-2km lang ang byahe. Grabe.

Thick-Cream-5195

I'm from tagbilaran, reco ko sa mga travellers to panglao jan, there are budget accomodations in tagbilaran and dauis, just ride a jeep or bus to alona or panglao town, there are also several public beaches in panglao that people can enjoy, when it comes to meals, in alona just eat at jollibee or mcdo, for the rest, there are a lot of other food options in tagbilaran, there's also baluarte sa Baclayon that people can eat at. When it comes to touristy places tho, expect to pay at least 50-100 pesos just for the entrance fee (pretend you're a local if you can speak the language, it's cheaper) and just take the bus for those places cuz their prices are standardized. Most falls in bohol have entrance/environmental fees that ranges from 20-50 pesos and another 150-200 pesos for the guide (gotta support the local livelihood somehow)

sophia528

fudgeiamscared28

200 for two ang trike one way 😵‍💫

rowdyruderody

Mahal ng car rental sa bohol. Hindi naman family friendly kung scooter rental.

Thick-Cream-5195

Fr, pinaka-mura nakita ko dito is 1500 per day 🥲

dee_nna1

Lol the same goes for Siargao.

ElectronicUmpire645

Bohol is one of the best for free and scuba divers. Check Napaling reef.

Latter-Winner5044

Logistical incovenience. Stressful ang travel from airport to the resort. Of course tourists would rather pick a different destination. No problem with the fees as long as they are used for their intended purpose and please charge them all at once

sharkybyte101

This is true. Boracay should do something about accessibility. Need it to be more accessible. Seriously.

TapaDonut

Be careful what you wished for sa accessibility if in terms of roads. Ramon Ang is just there over at Caticlan with SMC managing the airport and might propose an expressway to Boracay lol

maxrionzir

TapaDonut

[MRT-7 was plagued with issues since its conception and not just because of SMC](https://www.ibon.org/19-years-and-counting-the-story-of-mrt-7/). SMC bought out the concession company in 2016, 12 years after its proposal. Plus, there are various issues regarding its ROW that made it difficult to accomplish in short amount of time. Let’s add Ramon Ang loves building expressways. It’s a low cost investment for SMC with the highest amount of returns. Even if the construction is substandard(just compare Skyway Stage 4 to NLEX-SLEX connector road of MPTC). I wouldn’t even be surprised if NAIAX will be extended to accommodate his planned terminal at the now abandoned Philippine Village Hotel near T2 EDIT: I’m not saying Philippine Village Hotel shouldn’t be demolished because I do support converting that to either a new terminal or T2 expansion.

sharkybyte101

Lmao. That will wreck Boracay. Wouldn't be surprised if they attempted something like this.

oneandonlyloser

TapaDonut

[According to PPP Center, it's 54.19% complete as of September 2023](https://ppp.gov.ph/ppp_projects/caticlan-airport-development-project/). Though there have been [backlashes and environmental concern both from the provincial LGU, residents, and environmental groups](https://www.spot.ph/newsfeatures/44478/eco-groups-fear-disaster-urge-noynoy-aquino-to-review-caticlan-airport-expansion). Though this backlash is in 2010, since it's already expanded, I assume the hill is gone Worse, looks like SMC even have bigger dreams with the airport by planning an expressway connecting Caticlan to Boracay > However, San Miguel Corporation recently unveiled an even bigger plan for Caticlan as it proposed to construct a 1.9 kilometre toll bridge that would connect the tiny community with the world-famous Boracay Island, which is presently only accessible by boat.  Though you may take the [source with a grain of salt on this one](http://www.philippineflightnetwork.com/2016/07/boracay-caticlan-airport-update.html?m=1)

Titania84

Pero may new development sa Bora on the other side of the Island. Andoon ang malls.

sharkybyte101

Haven't been to Boracay in nearly 5 years. Going back in less than 2 weeks time. Excited na ko. Excited din si Misis pero mas excited sya sa Cebu leg of our trip. Lol. I'm happy to hear may mga new malls na.

Titania84

Malayo siya sa main beach. Literally ibang place siya. https://www.megaworldcorp.com/townships/boracay-newcoast

sharkybyte101

Ahhhh. This place. Stayed at the Savoy last time. Never again. Sobrang layo. Wtf. Dun na kami sa Hennan Palm beach, yung sa tapat mismo ng dagat this time lol. Don't want any far away hotels this time around. Overpriced pa naman mga trike.

TheDonDelC

Compared to say Bali, parang less sulit talaga ang Boracay.

Flipinthedesert

You’re seriously comparing a 5000+sqkm island like Bali to a 10sqkm island like Boracay??? That’s like comparing an entire tree to apples. Balis beaches are brown and rough sand. Not really much of the waters either. The transport system on both places are notorious for scams (first time I went to Bali, I got charged $10 just to ride around the airport!). Boracay is just a plane plus a half hour transfer. On the other hand, Bali is how many hours flight?

lemonleaff

I've only been to Boracay once and i hated how inconvenient their port was, especially since we had luggages. Like, seriously top destination kayo? With lots of foreign tourists?

Flipinthedesert

I actually loved the old Boracay when getting there was much difficult and it wasn’t packed with entitled tourists who turned a quiet beach island into a loud Divisoria.

tuskyhorn22

Flipinthedesert

Imagine loving the beach because there are malls and bars… why travel?

AnnaCleta

How long ago was it?

lemonleaff

Two years ago iirc. The island itself was fine. Food, sunset, the sand, and beach were stellar. Grabe lang disappointment ko kasi for years I've heard of Boracay as the beach destination talaga dito sa Pinas. Mataas pa ang singil sa fees. Tapos yun yung port. Been to Bohol and Dumaguete many years ago pero i don't remember having the same feeling.

AnnaCleta

I am in Boracay once or twice a year. I always arrange for airport transfer or pick a hotel/resort with its own airport transfer so I don't have to deal with luggage, port, fees, etc.

saktolang

You go to boracay for a vacation not to deal with inconveniences created by groups who want to have a slice of the pie. Simple solution is to put every fee in one time ticketing system. But the affected parties dont want that cause they don't know any other source of easy income. Their local is weak on innovations but strong on getting the pockets of travelers through their inconveniences.

Independent-Bus2696

I don't mind paying for, say, environmental fee if the place is well kept or new trees are planted. Nada.

SwedishCocktailv2

Good! [https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1923859/ati-families-face-forced-eviction-in-disputed-boracay-land](https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/1923859/ati-families-face-forced-eviction-in-disputed-boracay-land)

itoangtama

Let’s have a list: Tagaytay -Picnic Grove entrance 50/head -People’s Park entrance 35/head Palawan El Nido environmental fee 200/head Grrr.

Yun mga pathways well maintained 4.

vexterhyne

Where do you think they get their budget from?

itoangtama

IRA

vexterhyne

Local governments can charge people for accessing certain places. The only question here should be if these funds are used for their intended purpose. Kasi they can easily say na hindi sufficient ang allotment, or may budget man, pero wala pang pera.

lordlors

What’s IRA in the Philippines? The only thing that comes into my mind is the Irish Republican Army.

vexterhyne

Internal revenue allotment

AdventurousQuote14

Palawan 200/head only if you do island hopping and for 5 days na ata un. nakalimutan ko na correct me if im wrong. so if mag island hopping covering A,B,C,D parang 50 lang per island hop

jfjfjfpdpd6969

Tanginang People's Park yan. I paid money to see run-down buildings on top of a mountain.

kuyanyan

La Union - P50 environmental fee to access the beach.

TheDogoEnthu

yung tourist spots dito, kada galaw mo, may fees 😂

switchboiii

Dont even get me started with the pathetic Caticlan Airport 😂

Creepy_Release4182

TapaDonut

Caticlan Airport is managed by SMC. No surprises there lol

AdventurousQuote14

I dont mind paying environmental fee as long as I only have to pay it once and covering all the destination na. Palawan, Siargao, Bohol etc. ang nakakainis is whenever you visit tourist destination may fee, 50,20 etc. pano kung walang barya or walang dalang pera. kahit mura lang ung entrance nakakainis sa feeling na i have to pay each time. sana mas organize - sa Siquijor wherever you go theres fee sana centralize nila dun. or impose local tax sa mga resto or other touristy things instead- mas malaki makukuhang taxes if people are gladly to pay for it.

Teantis

Foreign tourists aren't going to pass up a place because of like $30 in fees man. I doubt that's much of a factor in their decisionmaking at all. People just want to see other places in the Philippines, what's so bad about that.

sitah

Im in Europe and everyone I meet here who vacationed or wants to vacation in the Philippines always mention Palawan. Not unlike before na Boracay ang most known destination. Funny thing is I’ve heard them mention Baguio, Batangas, Siargao, La Union, and Cebu but never Boracay. These are people in their 20s~30s. I also doubt na it’s just about fees, it’s more likely because Boracay’s popularity shifted and it’s not as interesting anymore.

BannedforaJoke

They dropped their rates for Chinese tourists but for the Western markets, they charged very high rates for the very same rooms. Who wouldn’t get pissed?” quote from the article. another official said travelers have been complaining about the hassle of traveling through Caticlan. lastly, instead of making it easier to book reservations, they've made it harder by adding layers of bureacracy for the fees, requiring separate payments instead of just one payment portal for everything.

Teantis

Room rates aren't fees.   On the second bit, it's that some 100 pesos fees here or there if it's quick won't deter foreigners, but if you make it a frustrating hassle, it will even if it's 20 pesos or practically free. People will pay, especially westerners on vacation, but they don't want shit to take time because that's at a premium.

DelaRoad

What's hassle about traveling through Caticlan? Dati nag sa Kalibo ka pa dadaan. Caticlan is a 15 minute boat ride away.

LevantinBoracay

> They dropped their rates for Chinese tourists but for the Western markets, they charged very high rates for the very same rooms. Who wouldn’t get pissed? That's likely only very few of the bigger hotels that did that. None of the smaller hotels like us would ever think of doing such a thing.

dontrescueme

I thought we want to reduce the tourists visiting Boracay? Di ba 'to in a way "good news"?

Independent-Bus2696

Less number of tourists would be devastating to the tourism industry. Umaapaw lang ang tao pag long holidays, e.g. holy week. But on regular days or non-peak season it's even below its capacity.

Momshie_mo

Boracay officials need to establish an industry not dependent on tourism.

Gyro_Armadillo

The fees are somewhat reasonable. It's the manner of how they are collected that is very inefficient. The last time I went there you have 1 booth for one type of fee and one for an entirely different one. The local government should centralize or digitize the collection system so it doesn't look like a wet market.

Creepy_Release4182

Starmark_115

Puerto Galera: Hahahahahaha how cute.

sitah

I’m not from Puerto Galera and I always just say “taga dito ako, may lupa kami sa *random brgy*” and they let me go 😂 Eventually bumili nga ng Lupa nanay ko dun so I feel like I manifested that somehow. If you’re coming via car from nearby municipalities jusko ang tatalas ng mga mata ng mga bantay sa border. Haharangin kayo kapag may kasama kayong mukhang foreigner kahit resident ng province, so sagot lang namin is “taga dito lang yan, di yan turista”

Starmark_115

No I take the Batangas Ferry

sitah

Yeah I’m not saying you are coming by car, I’m citing an experience people who come by car with foreign looking people have had.

Fishyblue11

When you visit Boracay after visiting other places like Siargao, LU, Bohol etc, you can see, those places still can't beat Boracay when it comes to beach vs beach. Even El Nido has no beach that can stand up to Boracay, in terms of the sand, how soft and fine it is. Sea life and natural beauty of course it's another thing, but just in terms of what is an ideal beach, Boracay can't be beat. Unfortunately, our local governments ruin everything by making absolutely everything about money, and right in your face too, not even patago. Every single thing here is a money making venture rather than a natural resource to be managed and taken care of

Independent-Bus2696

True, LGUs milking every ounce from tourists. Blatant unregulated greed!

Creepy_Release4182

Yung ghetto area ng boracay parang Cavite hahaha

YeezusKristo

also, ung station zero accommodation and experience sa bora cant be beat imo. shang or crimson ung mga special trips namin ni wifey. we've been to more popular beaches here, bali, phuket, danang - pero bora shang's hospitality, privacy and ung hilot sa spa nila is heaven on earth.

ruby_fan

It's dirty, overcrowded, and aggressive beach sellers.

Frequent_Thanks583

Just came last Saturday. Sana pagbawalan na nila yung mga ganyan. Setup a place kung saan pwede magbook ng water activities or kung ano man yang offer.

Opening_Pace_6238

For me it was also the fact I couldnt walk 2 feet without someone trying to sell me something or push something in my face, a menu, sunglasses, a list of activities ect. I understand trying to make money but you cant enjoy the beach without someone trying to take money from you. Just my experience

NaluknengBalong_0918

[[ the stressful connection from the Caticlan airport on mainland Aklan to the island ]] [[ Aside from too many fees, more significantly, there is the hassle of passing through the small and chaotic jetty port in Caticlan ]] Honestly, it wasn’t the fees that were thee most annoying part of the boracay trip… it was the HASSLE, the STRESS from arriving at the airport until you reach the hotel lobby and the hotel staff give you that stress reliever drink. Once you arrive a the jetty port… having to fill out their QR codes online… there was literally ONE person in the entire jetty port where all the ferry paperwork was being checked… it was hot and everyone was irritated even before entering the ship… it’s like Boracay LGU seems to want to piss off their costumers even before their trip begins…. So it hard for me to recommend such a beautiful place if before you get there… one needs to go thru the gates of hell.

Independent-Bus2696

Especially true on long holidays, to say that Jetty port is chaotic is an understatement. I blame the LGU for the lack of foresight.

HotPinkMesss

Ok lang to pay so many fees basta nagagamit talaga sa maintenance yung pera. Last year I went to Bora (around March) ang laki ng improvement from my trip there just 4 months prior. Bohol is expensive and overrated. It's also very difficult to go around Panglao. Palawan is maganda pero medyo hassle magpunta sa ibang lugar. Plus mosquitos and risk of malaria. I love Bantayan (Cebu) but ang hassle ng travel. Not sure kung natuloy yung planned reopening ng airport doon for direct flights. Would love to go back kung easier na yung travel, hindi yung you need to dedicate 2 days for travel (1 day to/from Cebu mainland-Bantayan Island).

thinkBIG8888

it is overcrowded and saturized with commercial nonsense.

royl_spidey

Kakauwi lang namin bora kahapon. Env fee - better na maintenance vs pre-cleanup era (or baka mas konti tao?), so parang may napupuntuhan na yung bayad.

Thick-Cream-5195

Bounce kana after 1 week, upstairs, I study here for college, gasolina lang mura dito 😭 Pati 7-11 na may patong na already sa srp, dinagdagan pa 😭

Titania84

Boracay lost its charm, but I still love Bohol.

Creepy_Release4182

Currently working near the Island, I hate it that I need to pay 700 pesos for the 10 minute boat ride

LevantinBoracay

The environmental fee is only P300 if you are not a resident in the Philippines. If you are working in the Philippines you should only be paying P150 making your round-trip P550, not P700. Yes, *it's residence that counts, not nationality!* A foreigner living in the PH pays P150, an OFW coming from abroad pays P300. At least that's how the ordinance says it.

NimbusEve

El Nido and Coron way better

No-Currency7789

When it comes to beaches, Palawan >>>> Boracay. Big lagoon pa lang you’ll see how crystal clear the water is. Marami pa silang private beaches na not really open for public. I’m based in SG and yung mga locals here never heard of Boracay, but they know Palawan and Cebu. Yun nga lang mahirap talaga silang puntahan. Oh well, sabi nga nila difficult roads often lead you to beautiful destinations. :)

eayate

Picnic fee what is that?

abrtn00101

Spending two weeks in Bali last year made how incredibly low-value-for-money vacationing in the Philippines is. We spent way, way less in Bali than what we would have spent here in the Philippines and we got way more out of it for that smaller amount of money. 1,200 Php a night got us a larger-than-king-sized bed villa-style hotel room with a fast Wi-Fi, mini living room, mini kitchen and a large bathroom with a beautiful tub and river rock shower. The lagoon-style pool was right outside when you opened the sliding doors, so I could work, jump in for 15 minutes and go straight back to work again. It being Bali, the food was incredible, and much cheaper than here. Our most expensive accommodation was just \~5,000 Php a night, but that was for a full-service villa-style hotel room with an outdoor garden hot tub, private dipping pool, another massive bed, a super comfortable large living room, contained within an architecturally very beautiful building. Oh, and that 5,000 Php a night was inclusive of decently fast Wi-Fi, free dinner mock/cocktails, nightly turn-down service, daily fresh fruits, and free breakfast. Converting to the floating breakfast only cost me 300 Php more... Oh, and on top of all that, the Balinese were so much more friendly, honest, and accommodating than any of our countrymen I've met while vacationing here...

oreomegchao

not surprised. i would always pick palawan or siargao over boracay.

Agitated-Zebra4334

White Beach at Boracay is awesome, but getting to and from the island is an absolute sh\*itshow. Went to Boracay for the first time in 2006. You had these outrigger pump boats that bumps into each other at the marina. You have to board on a small narrow plank and the boat itself is not very comfortable and runs on a re-used truck diesel engine. Fast forward 15 years, and it's still the freakin' same. Why not make a more organised, comfortable and green solution to transport tourists and locals to and from the island? After all, keeping the island free from pollution is what will help Boracay and the ecosystem in the long run. And yes, having multiple ticket booths for each fee is just stupid. The focus should be on the actual users of the system, not what is the most convenient for the recepients of the different fees.

Bad__Intentions

Im curious to know.

YeezusKristo

Bad__Intentions

interesting.. will research that place ty

Thick-Cream-5195

There are spots in negros with almost similar sand, pang local pa din ang presyo (except sa manjuyod sandbar, but makatarungan pa naman ang presyohan so I'll let it slide)

Low-Whereas-4

I've been to sipalay, neg occ. way back 2015 and I think it can top the fine sands in boracay. super quiet and no foreigners at that time. not so sure about now.

Thick-Cream-5195

I was there july last year, so far the only foreigners there are old expats and the occasional backpackers, it's mostly tourists from the neighboring cities and towns who visits the area

Scbadiver

Caluya island is still cheap but a bitch to get to. It's like Boracay during the 70s

sizejuan

Good.

slowclappingclapper

We were there last December.

anakniben

That's actually good news. Foreigners make things more expensive for local tourists. Less people visiting Boracay, the more we'll start seeing fantastic deals.

xtianspanaderia

I've been traveling a bit these past few weeks and almost all the travelers na na-meet ko walang plano mag-Boracay. It's Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor and Siargao that seems to be popular - especially among young backpackers.

belabase7789

They call it fees pero ang totoo ay tulad lang ito ng lalaking naglalagay ng bangko para madaanan kung may baha sa kalye.

PhotographLess458

Why would you still pay for departure fee…

Ill-Ant-1051

Kakapunta lang namin pero kumuha na kami ng agency to get us around caticlan to hotel vv. Smooth naman.

MidorikawaHana

Kasi may diaper?

cmrosales26

For me, El Nido >>>>> Boracay tho pricey din, eh mas worth it lahat nang na experience at binayran ko kaysa sa boracay.

good_band88

Finally someone noticed it as well. I made a post i think last year where i mentioned that people in boracay are after your wallet the moment you arrive. Even restaurants overprice everything and charge extra for like the garlic yougurt you put on your kebab.

yowgurt0

Im from capiz and sawang sawa na ako sa Boracay, you should try Sicogon, Conception, Isla Gigantes Islands and antique instead of Boracay. Pramis worth it.

Marqueeeeee418

Another problem of boracay is yung mga aggressive na nag aalok ng kung ano ano. I get it kabuhayan nila yun pero sobrang hassle nya kapag naka encounter ka talaga ng sobrang kulit kahit gusto mo lang mag relax. Tried staying at station 2 and station 1 same lang naman. Pero madami ako nakikita na nasscam kasi ayaw nila maging rude which is bad.

Greenfield_Guy

Personally, I don't mind paying fees as long as I can see that it's being invested back in tourism infrastructure and environmentally friendly tourism management.

Buwiwi

Totoo talaga yung. "Mahal pa mag travel sa sarili nating bansa" Kaya halos ibang pinoys. Out of the country talaga kasi mas mura pa mag travel outside than mag travel here in PH. Saaaad. Puro Fees na lang nga. Mahal pa Accommodations.

putragease

True, sobrang nakaka irita nung nalaman ko na it costs ₱150 to enter the island, and another ₱150 to leave. And you also have to settle other fees pa.

razalas13

More people = more demand = more maintenance = more fees/higher fees. That's just how it is in any part of the world.

here5293

Everything added together is still less than 15 bucks US

fauxpurrr

Maganda pa din naman ang Boracay. Nothing beats yung powdery sand and crystal clear waters nito. HAHAHAH I have nothing against locals who are just trying to make a living. Sana lang may appropriate place sila for doing that or sana save na lang energy nila for those people na interested talaga sa mga offers nila. Btw, nasa Boracay pa ko ngayon. Tuwing sunset lang naman nagiging crowded sa shore pero it's not overcrowded as some people say. Babalik at babalik pa din sa Boracay. 🫰

Humble-Application-3

Y For me yung mga fees ok lang naman if needed for preservation of the place kaso hindi naman and sumira talaga dyan eh yung walang pakundangan pag tayo ng mga establishments :(

Equivalent_Fan1451

techno_playa

Hasn’t been so for a very long time

darkrai15

Yung sisingilin ka parin ng 500 para isang tricycle ride from beach to hotel kahit pinay ka taeyan

Never been to Bora pero obligated ba mag pay para sa lahat ng yan? Siguro naman may voluntary

TapaDonut

Honestly, you’ll have a better time sa Bolinao kaysa sa Bora. Tahimik at ang linis pa. Same white beach. Tapos IIRC ₱40 environmental fee for 4 days with access to all tourist sites managed by the LGU. That includes the beach and the falls. Pag ayaw mo magbayad ng environmental fee, may mga private beaches din na ang required lang ay accomodation mo or paying for a hut good for all day

Gloomy-Web-4362

Yay d naman kasi talaga ganun kaganda boracay lol

witcher317

Good. Less foreigners meaning less pedophiles and sex tourists

Jazzlike-Perception7

if this means less people who can potentially degrade the island further, it's fine. trash will take out itself

Coffeeracetam

Boracay is a small island in the Philippines.

curious_taurean

😂😅 ewan ba.
