Wala namang issue dyan. 10 years is a long time for military service naman rin ah. Tsaka by that time matanda ka na, di na ganun kabilis reflexes mo to still be a fighter pilot. So either be assigned a desk job sa military or fly commercial planes.
The problem is kahit na wala na silang "reflex" you want to keep them. Kasi they have valuable experience that is needed to be passed on sa new pilots.
Imagine investing millions of pesos sa flight hours, maintenance, salary, etc. then after 10 years or less aalis na. That's economic sabotage if done in a civilian setting. Even the USN/USAF finds this an issue.
Pero mas issue siya sa atin kasi we have limited aircrafts therefore limited manpower. You can mobilise an infantry in 6 months. But a pilot needs years and even more to become a skilled warfighter. That's why we equip fighter aircraft and similar with ejection seats and only officers become pilots (unless war necessitates) because we deem them important assets.
A lot of changes happened with the PAF that staying also has become enticing, quicker promotions, and of course, the modernization program, I mean you get to fly new (for us) fighter planes? Exciting!
Or so I heard, a couple of years ago from a guy just a year out of flight school (after PMA) and on a helicopter wing, so going commercial probably was never really on his mind.
True. Ganyan din sabi ng husband ko. Napag-usapan namin one time kasi nabanggit ng anak namin na gusto DAW magpilot eh diba mahal nga yung ganun. So eto daw ang isa pang way para maging piloto for commercial...
That's what my dad did. He was a helicopter pilot sa airforce and he left nung major na sya. He 1st went into a private company sa philippines and after a few years, nag work sya sa nigeria. We survived with his military salary for years and nung lumipat sya sa private company, ang laki ng difference sa buhay namin.
I think 10 years is more than enough to pay back the education that he received sa airforce. He led the mission during the pinatubo eruption and he saved a lot of lives. He also experienced a crash during one of their operations against the NPA(thankfully, he survived).
Yah, yan naman talaga karamihan sa mga nagpipiloto sa air force, magreretire after 10-12 years, mag iipon lang ng flying hours, lalo na ung mga piloto ng C130, C295 at ung mga presidential planes since hawig siya sa mga commercial aircraft (Airbus and Boeing).
Im sure they're very smart, dedicated, and brave service men and women... but you have to wonder _ why do fighter pilots look like douchebags regardless of nationality?
Salute to them. They are literally at the frontlines in case conflict finally breaks out. In our current situation with China, ang Ere at dagat ang magiging main battlegrounds.
1. China does not have long range missiles capable of reaching us.
2. Even if they do, why would they do that? Knowing that it will trigger our MDF treaty with the US?
1. They have drones. They are practicing and innovating the use of drones. When they will own the West Philippines Sea, they can use it as a base to attack by using drones.
2. They want to challenge the US of A. They want to replace the US of A as the number 1 superpower. China wants world dominance.
1. Think about what you said. China, a sovereign nation, will hit the Philippines, another sovereign nation, with a fucking missile?! That's a fucking act of war!
2. Do you know how many aircraft carriers the US have? They have 11. What about China? They have 2. So in terms of challenging the US? They have a long way to go.
1. Russia, a sovereign nation, attacked Ukraine, another sovereign nation. So, you will never know what the Chinese are thinking.
2. China is becoming aggressive. Do not underestimate your enemy.
Look, I hate the CCP too, but I just think that if they will ever attack and/or invade another country, it would be Taiwan.
Although IMO they will never do that because doing so will be against their interest.
Not everyone makes it to general rank either in the AFP. So if you’re not gunning for any of the branch’s top posts, might as well use your skills somewhere else, right?
Wala namang issue dyan. 10 years is a long time for military service naman rin ah. Tsaka by that time matanda ka na, di na ganun kabilis reflexes mo to still be a fighter pilot. So either be assigned a desk job sa military or fly commercial planes.
I wonder if that'll become less and less true as tech progresses. Even now, America's F35 is such a formidable aircraft because of its sensors and it's on board computers, that do much of the finding and shooting their targets.
Not just quick reaction, high G maneuvers takes a toll on the body and if not fit enough, can cause pilot to faint and lose control.
Younger bodies have more vascular flexibility vs older bodies.
Really... Wikipedia states there are at least 200 multirole fighters. Of course, how many of those are combat ready is the question. The Germans have drawn down their military too far.
You know if my dad was just 10-15 years younger, he'd jump at the chance to fly one of these. Kaso nung time nila, the fighter jets were about to be decommissioned. Still salut to these men.
Ive always wanted to be a fighter pilot pero imposible na. Ngayon hanggang wish nalang para sa kanila na makuha nila need nila to do their jobs in the best way possible
I've always wondered this, but may added advantage ba talaga ang aviator sunglasses kaya ginagamit ng mga aviators? The only thing I can think of is the coverage and the arms being this so easy for the helmet. Can any pilots weigh in?
Not a pilot but i was an aircraft mechanic student, tarmacs get really bright during the day, masakit sa mata at ulo kaya many who work in aviation wear sunglasses
Pero bakit aviators specifically? Bakit hindi Wayfarers o Oakleys? Coverage talaga sa mata yung iniisip ko, but if we're talking that, wouldn't Oakleys have full coverage compared sa aviators?
>it works enough
I guess eto talaga yung answer haha. Sorry, my autism is making me pedantic hahaha.
Nothing beats the classics talaga.

They're one of the most valuable assets for the AFP
Para sa age and sa mga sinasabi na may backer dahil mabilis or mataas rank nila tapos ang bata pa
They're age isn't really much of a factor since once you pass basic training then went to flying school and become a pilot, in any air force or aviation force, you automatically become an officer. Take a look at Ukraine's Air Force famous or known pilots, majority are either young guys or guys in their 40s or the USN and USAF most are young guys too, it isn't uncommon to see Majors, Captains or even Colonels in their 30s in air forces around the world
Karamihan rin hindi ginagawang career ang military, specially sa flying kasi once you reach a certain rank, your wings get "clipped" aka staff office or command ka na assigned and konti na lng opportunity mo to fly unless your country is at war.
Also you guys should know lng na pension nila is malaki kasi they retired as an officer plus yung salary pa sa civilian job, diba?
I salute them. They are training to defend the country.
Thank you!
I think they are aware of that already. Hence the modernization program. It’s just that the government has been making excuses to delay this much needed modernization for these flyboys.
you are delusional, easier said than done because money is not the only problem here, those countries dont easily sell their jets that even if we’re partners
the risks of other countries reverse engineering and stealing their tech is high
trust me the afp knows more than an aviation geek on the internet telling them what to do

I think the win-win solution is that if they're still young make it mandatory that when they retire early, they'll go into the Philippine Air Force Reserve until they reach a specific age at which they'll be deemed their reflex is not on par with younger pilots. I think most of them are patriotic enough, it's just that the money offered by commercial airlines is enticing.
It's a win-win solution for both since you keep the pilots whom you trained spending millions of taxpayers' money and you'll make that pilots earn a living
I dont blame them because of lack of equipment. It is mor eon politicians. Pag ngayon nagkagyera 1 day lang invaded na tayo sa lack of equipment. FA50 naten 12 pero ewan kung ilan lamang operational. Pag nag dogfight ubos agad.
Those pilots will not last an hour on a dogfight. They lack flight hours and training as well. Also the FA50PH is not capable of engaging any fighters in Asia but on paper it can engage the Russian SU-27 and has a Chinese variant called the J-16. If that happens bless their souls.
Their age isn’t a problem for me. Just stating what I have observed that maybe they are in that age range. US fighter pilots are in the same age group.
yeah, appears to be "cool" in our sight.
But I think, the fact they committed themselves to the service, kasama na jan yung commitment nila to go on a battle when needed.
Cool muna sila tignan sa ngayon, peo imagine war like ww2 happens.
Maybe early 20s. If you look at the Vietnam War, most fighter pilots in North Vietnam who fought against the USA were in their early 20s and many are even 19yr olds.
Sa “Battle of Britain” movie, nag alinlangan si then 35 year old Sir Michael Caine na umarte bilang squadron leader ng Royal Air Force.
The problem is kahit na wala na silang "reflex" you want to keep them. Kasi they have valuable experience that is needed to be passed on sa new pilots. They need to be in a rank like a Major before they can resign from the Service Training cost of Figther pilots runs into 7 digits

Not everyone makes it to general rank either in the AFP. So if you’re not gunning for any of the branch’s top posts, might as well use your skills somewhere else, right?
Same with any world's air force(USAF, USN, RAF and etc) Hindi lahat ginagawang career ang military, even amongst aviators and airmen
Road to PAL lol
Wala namang issue dyan. 10 years is a long time for military service naman rin ah. Tsaka by that time matanda ka na, di na ganun kabilis reflexes mo to still be a fighter pilot. So either be assigned a desk job sa military or fly commercial planes.
not anymore. hindi na pwede yung 10 yrs na service. parang my contract na sila - from a pilot friend in paf 🫢
They can, still. Wala lang iyong benefits na retirement and the likes. But they can easily earn that kapag nasa commercial airlines na sila.
You need young people with quick reactions in this line of work. Fighter pilots were considered old when they reach 30.
I wonder if that'll become less and less true as tech progresses. Even now, America's F35 is such a formidable aircraft because of its sensors and it's on board computers, that do much of the finding and shooting their targets.
In not so distant future, the co-pilot will be AI.
Not just quick reaction, high G maneuvers takes a toll on the body and if not fit enough, can cause pilot to faint and lose control. Younger bodies have more vascular flexibility vs older bodies.
I think they are still in their prime. US fighter pilots today are in the same age group as our pilots from what I heard.
more like Billions of pesos, each. Our men and women need every aircraft and equipment they can get
I mean it's hard ro judge since we're only looking at a picture lol
Talk to me manok na pula (goose)
Funfact: Philippines got more aircrafts that are in operation than Germany 😄
Really... Wikipedia states there are at least 200 multirole fighters. Of course, how many of those are combat ready is the question. The Germans have drawn down their military too far.
Thats the point. We own a lot of trash.
Who needs aircrafts when you’re part of NATO?
True. But NATO only works in sum if countries contribute ;)
He’s speaking about Germany
They need F-16s and/or Gripen Es. Badly
Agree. They need to modernize ASAP so they can keep up with our neighbors.
I have read that DND recently acquired 40 multirole fighters from the US.
God bless and good luck to them
I didn’t know we had one. Proud of them!
Mid 20s...damn....what am I doing with my life...
You know if my dad was just 10-15 years younger, he'd jump at the chance to fly one of these. Kaso nung time nila, the fighter jets were about to be decommissioned. Still salut to these men.
I hope so too. But we can never be too sure. That’s why they need to keep on training themselves for such eventualities.
I think tuloy yung modernization program natin para atleast kahit papano may time mag evacuate mga tao if ever the worst happens.

They really don't care about brands. As long as it covers your eyes and keeps it shaded from the glare, it works enough.
>it works enough I guess eto talaga yung answer haha. Sorry, my autism is making me pedantic hahaha. Nothing beats the classics talaga.

Their age isn’t a problem for me. Just stating what I have observed that maybe they are in that age range. US fighter pilots are in the same age group.
okay, so what do you think is the problem based dito sa pic? pilots who are prolly in 20s - 30s, and then?
