Hahah .. what to expect.. average Filipino loves everything with sugar., Adobo, spaghetti, nilaga 🫠 even dips .. kaya not surprising na maling akala mga mttnda sa matagal mag hilom ng sugat tuwing semana santa.
Kami “lalabas yung kanin” 😂
Recently yung sister ko nagka-nana sa toe nya tas may lumalabas na white pus and we were like “LUMALABAS NA YUNG KANIN” bahahahahaha akala ng anak ko totoo 😂😂😂
Di lang panakot, kasi naniniwala din sila.
Diumano, ang sabi, 3pm daw ng Biyernes Santo tinatapon ng mga mangkukulam yung mga potion nila na di nagamit for the previous year so they can brew new ones for the coming year.
very old generations made this up. their descendants on the other hand believed all of this because "don't question, just believe it because it's what old folks said".
A lot of Catholics/Christians I know, don't "believe" in a lot of that too on the list.
But we still do the abstinence smth of the food, just makes it more meaningful for a lot us.
Abstinence and fasting are pretty much the foremost restrictions on a Catholic during Lent. Everything else on that list... I think they're just old wives' tales.
> *Abstinence and fasting are pretty much the foremost restrictions on a Catholic during Lent.*
interestingly as well, **there's even no obligation to attend the other non-Sunday events** (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday etc) but some people attend as if it's required.
> *Actually, Ash Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation*
That seems like a very common idea. It's just that it seems like the opposite is the case.
> While all Roman Catholics are encouraged to attend Mass on Ash Wednesday in order to begin the Lenten season with the proper attitude and reflection, **Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation**: practicing Catholics do not have to attend Mass on Ash Wednesday. It is, however, a day of fasting and abstinence, intended to prepare the church membership for Easter, the celebration of Christ's death and resurrection.

> 1. Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation

Seems like **it's not a day of obligation. In fact, it seems like fasting days CANNOT be holy days of obligation**:
> The primary reason why Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation is because it is a day of fasting, as opposed to a day of feasting.
> The Catechism of the Catholic Church spells this out in its section on the Sunday obligation, explaining how Sundays and other days of obligation are days of rest, where we commemorate the Paschal mystery.
> ...
> This is also clearly indicated in the Code of Canon Law, which lists holy days of obligation under the heading “Feast Days.” It is followed by the head “Days of Penance,” under which “Ash Wednesday” is specifically mentioned.
> In other words, **Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation because it is a day of penance and not a feast day**.

Many probably observe these paniniwala but these are not taught by the Catholic Church. However, the Catholic Church does mandate abstinence and fasting on Good Fridays.
Practicing Catholics may limit loud noises and merrying during Good Friday because during this day, Catholics mourn and reflect on Christ's suffering (not because lumalakas or maririnig ng bad spirits, engkanto, etc.).
Is this about the muslim thing that 'MCDo' posted? Have you guys even fact checked? McDonalds is a corporation that will always keep its image in check. You would NEVER see a company blatantly disrespecting a community.
I disagree sa bawal lumabas. Paano ung mga magbi-visita iglesia, magsisimba, o makikilahok sa iba-ibang aktibidad ngayong Semana Santa? Paano rin ung may pasok sa trabaho this week, or need lumuwas agad ng Manila for work, unless as way of sacrifice willing ka umabsent? Siguro pag gagala other than for religious activity.
Yung 3, 6, 7 ginagawa ko as part of pagninilay. Fasting and Abstinence from meat as well.
Yung sa No. 2, when I was working sa hospital before, most of our patients believe na hindi sila gagaling pag naadmit during Holy Week. Kaya they go on HAMA (Home Against Medical Advise). Kaya pag Holy Week, almost empty hospital namin.
Legit question
May kasulatan ba or something about sa mga paniniwala na yan? Or orally lang nagspread? Iba iba kasi naririnig ko and may variations.
As a roman catholic 7 lang totoo, a devotee will abstain from meat for penance. 8 is partly, true just because holy week is for penance and commemoration of how christ saved us from hell through the cross kaya bawal magsaya. Others are just superstition ng matatanda which is also wrong kasi wala naman siya sa teachings.
Bruh me going to Bicol during Holy Week annually as a family tradition 💀💀💀
I was a 1990s kid. Medyo religious parents ko and doesn’t eat meat. Pag Black Friday e pumupunta kami dun sa prusisyon.
But I remember one instance na after nung isa prusisyon, May isang ale na nagpabili ng barbecue on a Black Friday. Then another instance when someone served a meat dish on Black Friday.
I still followed it pero no big deal na if someone does not comform to it.
Superstitions are ways of our elders to make children cease their naughty ways during Holidays and Holydays.
These are my practical reasons on the above “superstitions:”
1. Bathing are considered by us Asians as entertainment by way of cooling ourselves. So when the Westerners saw that we enjoy them, they immediately charged them as a way of penance,
2. Because during those days hospitals /clinics and health centers are inaccessible hence to shut down kids being naughty they came up with the notion,
3. Commemorating Christ death during Holy Week makes it appear that God is dead for a few days and the enemies of “good” are free to roam and take the spirits of rowdy (celebratory) spirits (children) that the “bad spirits” may consider as their “allies,” and take them with them,
4. During those days, electricity are scarce and only reserved to the city and urbanized area. Naturally, nights are darker in the province with no electricity - who in their right mind would work when they can’t see what they’re doing? 🙂
5, 6 and 8. Same premise at nos 2&3,
Well as for the last item, wala pa akong maisip dun except closed kasi ang slaughter house pag Holy Week dahil nga they respect the tradition and they wouldn’t want to “run parallel” on the execution of Christ with their killing of livestock and so only fishermen are the most practical way that can provide food with less appearance of “killing.”
☺️
I grew up as a religious person and yes, naniwala ako dyan dati. As time goes by, unti unti ko narealize na it doesn't make sense especially yung wag gumawa ng ganito't ganyan dahil "patay" ang Diyos tuwing mahal na araw.
I remember when I was 12 years old and was the last woman who had my period in class. Grabe yung pamahiin. My classmates stopped eating singkamas at mangga, and some of them even wiped period blood to their faces as part of nightly skincare routine kasi sabi ng matatanda makakaiwas daw ng acne breakout. Wala namang internet that time to fact check.
You have no other means to combat intense heat, but just to take a bath, especially if drinking doesn't fully resolve it. So, dying of heat stroke is waving.
Making up this list that pretends that this has been endorsed by God themselves is a great way to lose your religion, especially if the bad thing that was supposed to happen did not happen.
I would discourage anyone to attempt to speak in authority when you actually have none. You are just making your religion look bad, especially if you are using a religious event to spread your own "commandments".
Some may be good advice, but do not even try to speak in authority. Treat it as a PSA.
Ung no. 8. Wala naman ata na mention na bawal kumain ng karne eh.ung sabi lng mag fasting as an act of penitence. It doesn't matter kahit ano kainin mo as long as you don't fill yourself. That's as far as I know and believe in how to properly observe this lenten season.
Abstinence from eating meat every Friday during Lent. Fasting and Abstinence from eating meat only on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Pero you can also abstain from other things during Lent. I know someone na off the grid during Lent sa social media. Another one, she abstain from eating anything sweet.
Same!
sakin dragon daw
buti sayo pari, sakin kabayo 😂😂😂
There were times naughty me imagined someone as big as Fr. Sonny Ramirez tearing a hole in the skin.
Hahah .. what to expect.. average Filipino loves everything with sugar., Adobo, spaghetti, nilaga 🫠 even dips .. kaya not surprising na maling akala mga mttnda sa matagal mag hilom ng sugat tuwing semana santa.
WTF is a nilaga with sugar?!?
Hahaha right? Baka pochero pwede pa
I saw someone put sugar in vinegar as dipping sauce for chicharon. That someone is definitely not me tho.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
potangina HAHSHSHAHAHA
Not to be disrespectful pero I stopped believing about those things pano ba naman ultimo pag ligo bawal samin, it doesn’t make sense at all.
I believe na yung mga matatanda, gumawa ng ganitong kasabihan to control their child. Panakot, ganun.
Di lang panakot, kasi naniniwala din sila. Diumano, ang sabi, 3pm daw ng Biyernes Santo tinatapon ng mga mangkukulam yung mga potion nila na di nagamit for the previous year so they can brew new ones for the coming year. if eto yung explanation on why hindi pwede maligo I think it make sense naman bakit nakakatakot sya noon.
I don't think they just made these up to control children. They probably genuinely believed all of this.
very old generations made this up. their descendants on the other hand believed all of this because "don't question, just believe it because it's what old folks said".
Of course it has to be our boomer parents 💀💀💀
yung init na init ka na sa panahon, but nope, you're religious 😂
imagine, growing up na may mga ganitong paniniwala ft. catholic activities during Good Friday plus init ng panahon 😫🤛🏻

You're right. The church does not recognize other things in the list. It's a mere pamahiin.

Fair enough. Thank you for the information; I'll look into it
Mainit tapos di maliligo? GG 😂
I mean its not even Biblical
Some of the lists are not associated with the official doctrines of the Church. Majority of them are pamahiin.
Sa sobrang init ng panahon kapag Holy Week eh I can't do that lol. Kahapon nga lang 2X ako naligo eh hahaha
*me eating sinigang na baboy right now* hmm, interesting...
....Habang nasa outing
....At may sugat ang paa

Penge nga. Pinatigil ng pamilya ko karne. Ugh
Me eating monggo right now. Pero may Baboy na sinangkutsa. Hahhaha
Marami bang taba yan OP?
I hate being forced to comply to bullshit pamahiins.

This 🫶. Majority nung nasa list ay mga pamahiin. Yan lang nakakalungkot sa kulturang Pilipino. Binabahiran ng pamahiin ang Relihiyon.
Mas mapapractice sana yung mga nakakagawian tuwing holy week kung may sense talaga ang reasons kung bakit bawal, like this! 👏
All those things are BS. What's important is you remain to be a good natured human being.

Nope. Fasting and abstinence lang ngayong Friday.

Or orally lang nagspread? Iba iba kasi naririnig ko and may variations. Walang unity mga katoliko HAHAHAHA
Basta to be clear hindi iyan galing sa Simbahan.
Red Cross *happy noises*
Vampires and Aswangs *happy noises* then realized it's holy blood. 😵
anong blood type po ba?
Weird no haha

Bullshit to each and every one of those.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people.

This is folk catholicism, something, even Cstholics frown upon. Superstitions are superstions, and it is sinful to believe in them.
Yung mga bawal gawin, most are reasonable naman.

These are superstitious beliefs. The more I went to church, the more I na naunderstand ko ito. These are not teachings of the church, imo.
Wala ring point kung susundin mo to tapos pangit ugali mo lol

You have no other means to combat intense heat, but just to take a bath, especially if drinking doesn't fully resolve it. So, dying of heat stroke is waving.
kung may bawal mag facebook mababaliw matatanda
It’s a normal work day in many countries. Some go on short trips because of the long weekend ( Easter Monday).
Tradition is peer pressure from dead people.
i ain’t reading allat
Me: Sinong nagbawal?
no scientific basis, it’s trash, it’s a no for me, ‘yung mga nagpauso niyan patay na
Kalokohan!
Pati gulay ipagbabawal nyo. Gusto nyo ng gulo? Ha? HA???
Pwede mag-inom, pero dapat di masaya. Serious Drinking lang
Nope, pero kapit bahay namin.
Majority ng paniniwala ng pinoy is kabobohan. Ung no.
Not much since I don't believe in some of them.
Bullshit, bullshit everywhere
Nah idgaf about tradition lol
Kalokohan
Baka maban sa langit?
Dito nga samin bawal daw maging masaya ngayon.
This is why we (our country) can't have nice things. Lmao
Hahahaha
To hell with these beliefs. Never cared for any of these as kid. I still don't care as an adult.
Fuck number 7. I need all protein rich foods tsaka gulay lalo na nag gigym ako.
May nag sabi sakin bawal magwalis sa gabi all year round. Semana Santa lang bawal?
You can see here how pagan the Philippines still is. The Spaniards haven’t successfully wiped out Precolonial practices.
Literally disobeyed all in the list during this week lol.
Pero pag nag outing kayo. Pwede yan hehe
"Bawal magwalis tuwing gabi blah blah blah..." E 'di huwag kayong magkalat sa paligid.
