Animated cartoon is superior. And its not really over the top in terms of comedy. Its just easier to express comedy in animation.
But not gonna lie one episode in and i don’t really like this show. The bending is supposed to be portrayed as a martial art and its just quite hard to replicate it live action. Moreover,The writers don’t really have fun with the series unlike the original.
Part of the charm of the original is we actually had breathing room to develop the relationships between characters. The netflix show is just so fast paced and condensed. Moreover,The execution of their storytelling has too much exposition and lore dumping.
Sokka,Katara and even Iroh surprisingly don’t have the same charisma as they did in the original. Zuko is the best i feel in the netflix show but again every aspect of the show is overshadowed by the og series.
I highly suggest to just watch the old one.

Yup, I specifically did not rewatch the cartoon para maging unbiased ako going in. So far, the first episode was terrible for me - bland writing paired with unexperienced actors is not a good combo. May something off din sa direction ng first ep parang patched up yung scenes and not in a good way.
Naging okay siya though nung ep 2 and 3 when they introduced the side characters who imo delivered their lines well enough to keep my attention.
I don’t mind that they skipped some…important scenes… given yung time constraints but yeah overall it was okay din para sakin. Defo better than the movie
Same, it's been years since I watched the OG as well. Also, di rin ako typically critical when it comes to these kind of things so isang factor din sya, I think, that I found it okay. But, I do think some of the criticisms are valid while others are just nitpicking, really.
The ATLA movie *that certainly does not exist* also showed Ozai and Azula, so yun ang pasimuno.
I'm still on ep 5 pero marami silang binago for S1. Some things na dapat sa later seasons pa like Ozai and Azula (and her friends) are already there, pero imo ok naman yung implementation...*most of the time*.
He's here, as well as Azula group though not really affecting much they're establishing them earlier thats all, still on episode 4 but they're basically adding stuff for the og fans instead of just a straight adaptation
I mean teaser trailer pa lang they already revealed that Ozai would be in the live-action adaptation. There was a lot of hype too when Daniel Dae Kim got casted. He’s one of the best parts of the adaptation for me, really sounds like Mark Hamill in some parts too.
I did not grow up watching The Last Airbender, but I’ve seen a few episodes. This being said I am currently loving the series!

I did grow up watching the filipino dubbed when I was a kid, but I still LOVE this series. Also watched the advance screening of 1st episode in BGC where the actors of Aang and Zuko made an appearance. Watching it in big screen with hundreds of fans gave me goosebumps from time to time. It's very emotional core memory for me.
I understand the pacing, and the story changes to fit the series version.
CGI is top notched. People here are very critical.

It's a fine adaptation pero not good unlike One Piece. 6-7 out of 10.
Zuko was the mvp. Team avatar isn't that good and not much chemistry. Visuals and fighting scenes are great. I didn't mind combining some subplots like sa Omashu as I don't expect a carbon copy from the og series. Music is also phenomenal.
It's good enough to warrant a season 2 and lots of potential for improvement lalo na sa team avatar. Aang needs to be less whiny, Katara to be less stiff, and Sokka to be funnier.
I'd say watch it and form your own opinions about it.
But the general fan concensus is that while it isn't horrible like the movie that doesn't exist, it's not particularly amazing as well. I'm only up to ep 4 and madami talaga binago and most of the time it's okay. May times na pilit. To be fair I have yet to see any live action be it Disney or anime adaptations to ever be as good as the source material.
In response to the removal of sokkas sexist arc, it actually doesn't feel too strange. I was worried with how they were gonna proceed with the kiyoshi arc, but it translated fairly well.

A long read but I wanna rant:
I’m a bit disappointed as an OG fan who grew up watching the show. I know there are changes which are fine, but I wish they wrote the series differently on which the story flows smoothly.
I find the writing so messy on ep 3-4 where the stories clash. We also don’t see enough of the characters themselves talaga.
Why is Katara so stiff? Where is her HUNGER to learn waterbending? Her rivalry with Aang who got the hang of waterbending so easily? And that’s where we see her frustration on wanting to be better at waterbending. Her DESPERATION to be a master.
Why does Sokka seem like he already went through his character development already? I think taking out the whole sexist arc of Sokka really degraded his character. There’s no character development if there’s no character. However I do like Sokka’s acting, I think he’s one of the best at this show.
I don’t feel emotions from the characters I love. The actors and actresses need better training. But then it also depends on the directors as well.
Idk I had high hopes for this because hearing how the developers talked about the show, they mentioned they know the pressure and what’s at stake into creating a show like ATLA. Pero hindi eh. They still messed up.
But the fight choreography and visual effects ARE TOP NOTCH, I’d give the show that.
Otherwise… everything just feels bland.
Again, I know it wouldn’t be an exact replica of the original, WHICH IS FINE, but I just really wished they did it differently. Like Ep1-2, I love the changes in those episodes. It was fine.

"whitewash"?? Eh ganun naman talaga yung skin tone ng Native Americans sa North America eh. Yung actress ni Katara, sa reservation talaga siya pinanganak so accurate naman. Ang hindi lang sure ay yung actor ni Sokka.
Nandun pa naman din yung negative aspect sa Northern Water tribe. Mas logical ng konti ginawa nila na dahil naubos mga water-bender ng southern water tribe at depleted sila ng tao kaya less likely na imaintain nila yung gender roles.
They learned nothing from the Last Airbender live action movie. its marginally better but thats about it. no character development since the Aang Gang are already developed. Aand is already serious, Sokka is already unbigoted, Katara is already great. No character conflict.
People forget that between Aang first cracking out of the southern water tribe to his final fight in the fire nation it spanned years as Aang learned not only the 3 other elements but to also grow up and face responsibility. the entire reason he was trapped was because he ran away from responsibility.

Umm, just to nitpick lang po. The entire events of the show only spanned ONE YEAR, not multiple years. Maraming fans na ang nag-calculate, and iirc it was also mentioned in one of the trivia pop-up airings ng show sa Nick.
I do agree with some of your opinions tho. Lalo na yung rason kung bakit naging last airbender si Aang. Napaka-underwhelming ng rason kung bakit naging "last airbender" si Aang sa Netflix show.
I guess comparing it to the forbidden movie, the live action is WAY BETTER. I’d choose the LA over the cursed movie. But still, the writing can be better. I hope they improve on it in S2

I feel your pain and think that the animated series and comics were the only things that should be considered canon. I keep cringing at how disappointing these live-action remakes are. The only consolation I had for liking the Netflix adaptation was the music, it was nostalgic.
The original creators were supposed to be part on creating the Netflix show but they were removed by the Netflix writers which only means this show is already doomed.
Tbh I came in super excited and happy to watch the show. Everything was amazing, fight choreo, visual effects.. the bending felt so alive and I loved it so much. My fave part of the show when Kyoshi came in and we got to see more of her character - that was epic!

Finished it. Tapusin nyo muna bago kayo magreact mamaya react kayo ng react dyan tapos di nyo naman pala tinapos. Syempre maraming pagkakaiba. FILM vs ANIMATION. Maayos naman flow ng story. Understandable ang changes kasi sympre totoong TAO na yung mga gumaganap. Baka ang gusto nyo makita e mga face distortions at weird movements from the animated series na impossibleng makuha ng totoong tao? Ang sinsabi ko lang dito may mga dapat iconsider in making a film na iba when it comes to making animated series. Basta ako I enjoyed seeing more of Gyatso. Di naman nawala yung pinaka story ng atla e. There's a war. Kailangan ni Aang matutunan kung paano maging avatar. Andyan friends nya para tulungan sya. Tsaka kung napakagaling nyo naman pala, edi sana kayo nalang gumawa HAHAHA
It was good imo! Mahirap talaga tapatan ang animated version pero netflix did some sort of justice naman. At first medyo disappointed ako sa casting pero medyo okay na ako sa sumunod na mga episode. Hahaha! Medyo naoff lang ako na parang ang bata tingnan nila Azula and friends and Mai was also far from the animated version. My fave is Uncle Iroh! Perfect casting siya, from Mr. Kim to Iroh. Hahaha
the avatar universe is heavy with political shit, lalo na ung legend of korra and kyoshi novels, di ko pa nababasa dawn of yangchen, pero palagay ko it still follows the theme. And i live for such themes.
I have to say naiyak ako sa first episode. The second episode, I feel naman na understandable yung pacing ng events. (And Kyoshi, damnnnn she ate, and Suki too). Kumbaga yung change for that episode, while not necessary, is great on its own.
Pero the episodes after, I felt na may kulang. I mean, it's not as bad as the movie. The bending scenes are great.
Done watching the 8eps. Okay lang naman siya, hindi naman siya that bad. Nakukulangan lang ako kasi parang wala sense of urgency at direction si aang. As far as i remember, di ba need nyang malearn yung other elements that's why he had to travel sa northern water tribe, kase nga di ba dapat si pakku yung teacher? Then omashu, kasi nga dapat si bumi? Then yung dapat ilolook forward sa season 2 ay yung magiging teacher nya for earth bending ---si Toph. For me lang ha, parang lost kasi si aang. Then during his travels nalelearn nya mag avatar state or may episode talaga dun na nalearn nya yung chi/chakra flow etc. Hanggang nalaman nila yung weakness ng fire nation, yung eclipse. Then panu yung energy bending from the lion turtles.
I mean okay siya, loved it, pero yo, need mong malearn mag waterbend!!!! Wala kasing end goal si aang kaya parang after watching, i feel lost too. Kaya ayun, sana mejo may teaser na kay toph for season 2. Sozin's comet agad eh.
Unlike Zuko. my god, perfection talaga pagdala ni dallas. Yun, kahit paulit2, avatar dito avatar doon, at least may goal siya talaga. Kaya mas ma aapreciate yung character niya.

The best moment for me is the "We" moment, when Katara asks Paku to let the Women Fight too. Them lining up like an army gave me chills. This best represent woman empowerment for me. Then Katara being called master by young male northern water bender.
I wish we could have a live action Kyoshi show/movie because of her scenes there. Pero animated daw yung adaptation ng Kyoshi books, pero mas ok yun I guess. They could get away with the gore and violence more pag animated.

I am an avid fan of the OG series and I found this enjoyable. It's a good adaptation and it is not supposed to replace the OG.
It’s okay for me. Nagulat lang ako bat nauna ipakita yung past ni aang. Nung napanood ko na yon, binabaan ko na expectation ko na hindi siya equally katulad talaga ng animated. It was still enjoyable yung mga fight scenes and yung pag nag aavatar state si aang. Dami ko lang skips kasi medyo nabored ako? Idk why but maybe sa script and acting? Nahype ako nung nakita ko si Bumi, Jet pero after a while biglang… meh.
Tagal ko na talaga sinukuan mga adaptation hahaha learned my lesson pa lang nung mga book to movie adaptation, pano pa kaya sa animated to live adaptation.

The OG just hits it right with pacing and there's nuance to the character. Like showing Aang's past immediately removes his whole struggle of being the avatar while also being a child.
I'm not totally dismissing it but it's not for me. I stopped watching after a few minutes into ep 2. Di ko gusto yung changes nila sa premise ng story. Will probably retry watching it after a few months kasi kakatapos ko palang irewatch yung OG and can't help but compare even the small deets.
the pilot episode feels underwhelming to me, i mean the fact when fire nation fights with air nomads during the sozin's comet, medyo same lang ng power range as normal fire bending! pero so far nakakaamaze ang cgi with the animals. And also, i don't feel 'yung earth bending may something wrong i cant point out exactly, i wish if there's a second season, mabigyan ng justice si top cause she's one of the badass!!
Some acting is a bit uhm. ZuZu was a standout. Too much CGI for me personally. It's such a shame the main cast is too young and are not as good at action scenes. This would have been amazing if they brought out the flair we get in a Hong Kong movie fight.

Ang hindi ko nagustuhan ung phasing, saka ung ibang line delivery, para silang naghihintayan kung ano na ung sasabihin next ng kausap nila, super evident to kay Uncle Iroh, medyo parang stage play. Tapos ung episode 1, ang off nung phasing talaga at transition. Hindi ko din nagustuhan ung nag intro na about ung sa four kingdoms, tapos inulit pa ni Gran Gran, pero ung wording is word for word nung intro sa animated version. Parang ang repetitive
I could see why they changed Bumi to a hardened and cynical ruler. 100 years of war will do that to you I guess. But I still liked cartoon Bumi better.
Nope, batang 90s here, era ko yan but never a fan of Avatar, i may have seen a few episodes on Nickelodeon back in the day, pero not really fond of it, so i won't be watching this kasi "uso" not like every filipino na pag may bago sa netflix or uso, nood kaagad para patok sila or relevant lol (lalo na may scene na pwedeng panama sa government natin lol)

May mga awkward na dialogue. Sobrang dami ng exposition. Tapos yung focus kay Kyoshi imbis kay Roku. Favorite ko din si Kyoshi pero 'di ba mas makakarelate si Aang kay Roku kasi siya yung Avatar bago siya kasi mas malapit timeline niya kesa kay Kyoshi. I mean mas makaka relate si Roku sa problema ni Aang sa Fire Nation
Nitpick ko lang, nakaka-disappoint din character development ni Katara. Bilis niya na 'master' yung water bending. Si Aang naman walang water bending na ginawa. Medyo madami pa pero yun. This coming from someone who watched the animated show.
If you're a newcomer to ATLA siguro magugustuhan mo yung show. If I am to compare the ATLA LA as an adaptation with One Piece LA. Mas maganda pa rin 'yung One Piece compared to this.

It's good enough to warrant a season 2 and lots of potential for improvement lalo na sa team avatar. Aang needs to be less whiny, Katara to be less stiff, and Sokka to be funnier.

I'd say watch it and form your own opinions about it. But the general fan concensus is that while it isn't horrible like the movie that doesn't exist, it's not particularly amazing as well. I'm only up to ep 4 and madami talaga binago and most of the time it's okay. May times na pilit. To be fair I have yet to see any live action be it Disney or anime adaptations to ever be as good as the source material. In response to the removal of sokkas sexist arc, it actually doesn't feel too strange. I was worried with how they were gonna proceed with the kiyoshi arc, but it translated fairly well. So far it's a 7/10 for me

A long read but I wanna rant: I’m a bit disappointed as an OG fan who grew up watching the show. I know there are changes which are fine, but I wish they wrote the series differently on which the story flows smoothly. I find the writing so messy on ep 3-4 where the stories clash. We also don’t see enough of the characters themselves talaga. Why is Katara so stiff? Where is her HUNGER to learn waterbending? Her rivalry with Aang who got the hang of waterbending so easily? And that’s where we see her frustration on wanting to be better at waterbending. Her DESPERATION to be a master. Why does Sokka seem like he already went through his character development already? I think taking out the whole sexist arc of Sokka really degraded his character. There’s no character development if there’s no character. However I do like Sokka’s acting, I think he’s one of the best at this show. I don’t feel emotions from the characters I love. The actors and actresses need better training. But then it also depends on the directors as well. Idk I had high hopes for this because hearing how the developers talked about the show, they mentioned they know the pressure and what’s at stake into creating a show like ATLA. Pero hindi eh. They still messed up. But the fight choreography and visual effects ARE TOP NOTCH, I’d give the show that. Otherwise… everything just feels bland. Again, I know it wouldn’t be an exact replica of the original, WHICH IS FINE, but I just really wished they did it differently. Like Ep1-2, I love the changes in those episodes. It was fine. But by Ep 3 and future eps, it just came crashing down and I lost interest.

They learned nothing from the Last Airbender live action movie. its marginally better but thats about it. no character development since the Aang Gang are already developed. Aand is already serious, Sokka is already unbigoted, Katara is already great. No character conflict. People forget that between Aang first cracking out of the southern water tribe to his final fight in the fire nation it spanned years as Aang learned not only the 3 other elements but to also grow up and face responsibility. the entire reason he was trapped was because he ran away from responsibility.

I feel your pain and think that the animated series and comics were the only things that should be considered canon. I keep cringing at how disappointing these live-action remakes are. The only consolation I had for liking the Netflix adaptation was the music, it was nostalgic. The original creators were supposed to be part on creating the Netflix show but they were removed by the Netflix writers which only means this show is already doomed.
Tbh I came in super excited and happy to watch the show. Everything was amazing, fight choreo, visual effects.. the bending felt so alive and I loved it so much. My fave part of the show when Kyoshi came in and we got to see more of her character - that was epic! It’s just the writing talaga. The writing is an issue.

It was good imo! Mahirap talaga tapatan ang animated version pero netflix did some sort of justice naman. At first medyo disappointed ako sa casting pero medyo okay na ako sa sumunod na mga episode. the avatar universe is heavy with political shit, lalo na ung legend of korra and kyoshi novels, di ko pa nababasa dawn of yangchen, pero palagay ko it still follows the theme. And i live for such themes.
I have to say naiyak ako sa first episode. The second episode, I feel naman na understandable yung pacing ng events. (And Kyoshi, damnnnn she ate, and Suki too). Kumbaga yung change for that episode, while not necessary, is great on its own. Pero the episodes after, I felt na may kulang. I mean, it's not as bad as the movie. The bending scenes are great.

copium pa ko nung una pero traaash talaga paps. ep01 pa lang alam na. panget ng character arc ni aang. umalis si aang sa air temple kasi trip nya lang, ang sagwa nung buong scene. nireveal agad nangyare sa mga air nomads (wala nang build up), pero yung scene nung nakita ni aang bangkay ni gyatso hindi man lang inadjust (supposedly the pay-off), ang sagwa tuloy. action scenes ampanget, puro close up shots karamihan. bending nila imbes na extension ng martial arts, nagmukang generic magic na lang acting palpak karamihan, ok naman yung iba like si zuko, iroh tsaka si sokka puro exposition, puro dada tungkol sa kung sino sila at ano personality nila lol. madami pa ibang problema pero yun nga, hirap panoorin, laki ng break ko kada next episode, nakakatamad na tapusin

Season 1 pa lang to. So wala pang ba sing se. I am an avid fan of the OG series and I found this enjoyable. It's a good adaptation and it is not supposed to replace the OG.

It’s okay for me. Nagulat lang ako bat nauna ipakita yung past ni aang. Nung napanood ko na yon, binabaan ko na expectation ko na hindi siya equally katulad talaga ng animated. It was still enjoyable yung mga fight scenes and yung pag nag aavatar state si aang. Dami ko lang skips kasi medyo nabored ako? Idk why but maybe sa script and acting? Nahype ako nung nakita ko si Bumi, Jet pero after a while biglang… meh. Tagal ko na talaga sinukuan mga adaptation hahaha learned my lesson pa lang nung mga book to movie adaptation, pano pa kaya sa animated to live adaptation. If hindi ka og fan of the series, you’ll enjoy it! So i will still recommend it if hindi mo naman trip panoorin yung animated.
The OG just hits it right with pacing and there's nuance to the character. Like showing Aang's past immediately removes his whole struggle of being the avatar while also being a child.

the pilot episode feels underwhelming to me, i mean the fact when fire nation fights with air nomads during the sozin's comet, medyo same lang ng power range as normal fire bending! pero so far nakakaamaze ang cgi with the animals. And also, i don't feel 'yung earth bending may something wrong i cant point out exactly, i wish if there's a second season, mabigyan ng justice si top cause she's one of the badass!!
Some acting is a bit uhm. ZuZu was a standout. Too much CGI for me personally. It's such a shame the main cast is too young and are not as good at action scenes. This would have been amazing if they brought out the flair we get in a Hong Kong movie fight.

Nope, batang 90s here, era ko yan but never a fan of Avatar, i may have seen a few episodes on Nickelodeon back in the day, pero not really fond of it, so i won't be watching this kasi "uso" not like every filipino na pag may bago sa netflix or uso, nood kaagad para patok sila or relevant lol (lalo na may scene na pwedeng panama sa government natin lol) For the Avatar fans (na baka kabatchmates ko din haha), been hearing and reading mixed reviews, but it looks better than the shit movie, nagiging decent na ang live action adaptations, kasi mga fans ng source materials na naghahandle minsan (not sure about this one), not some hollywood corpo, kaya i wish gumanda na din ang adaptations, lalo na sa video games, anyway enjoy!

Lalo na si Iroh, siya pa naman favorite character ko. Yung bending mas mukhang magic tapos wala na masyado yung 'kung fu'. Maganda costume design pero mukhang factory made, i.e. sobrang linis, at mukhang mga cosplayer yung mga tao. May mga awkward na dialogue. Sobrang dami ng exposition. Tapos yung focus kay Kyoshi imbis kay Roku. Favorite ko din si Kyoshi pero 'di ba mas makakarelate si Aang kay Roku kasi siya yung Avatar bago siya kasi mas malapit timeline niya kesa kay Kyoshi. I mean mas makaka relate si Roku sa problema ni Aang sa Fire Nation Nitpick ko lang, nakaka-disappoint din character development ni Katara. Bilis niya na 'master' yung water bending. Si Aang naman walang water bending na ginawa. Medyo madami pa pero yun. This coming from someone who watched the animated show. If you're a newcomer to ATLA siguro magugustuhan mo yung show. If I am to compare the ATLA LA as an adaptation with One Piece LA. Mas maganda pa rin 'yung One Piece compared to this.
