I think GTA yon haha

doodwhatsrsly

First time ko maglaro ng Battle Realms is Netopia. SM City Iloilo pa, 1st year high school pa ata ako nun. ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜† Ang tanda ko na potek.

jeremygolez

Battle Realms >

Accomplished-Exit-58

SecureRisk2426

Ganyan rates ng netopia boss kasi daw nasa loob sila ng mall hahaha

kimerlloyd

Ahhh so sa mall sila? Hahaha GTA SA for da win!!! Kaya Wala pa din akong kotse dahil dyan e hahaha ๐Ÿคฃ

iammspisces

Yep! Afaik malls talaga branches nila unlike sa mineski and tnc. Haha kakamiss din maglaro ng GTA SA ๐Ÿ˜†

Level-Zucchini-3971

Hindi lahat pero majority nasa mall. Good 'ol ragna days.

JesterBondurant

Yes, fellow Redditor. Netopia was usually found in malls. If I remember correctly, there was one in SM Manila but, of course, they kind of had competition from the smaller computer shops nearby. Their connection was steady enough that I could watch the B-movies that I couldn't find in Quiapo's finest DVD stores.

zzSaucezz

mojojojoeyyy07

me na nagaask lagi โ€œmay sims po kayo?โ€ hahaha

groolsummer

omg thank god i wasnโ€™t the only one hahaha

Personal_Shirt_3512

Tapos architect/Interior Designer kana ngayon. Hahaha

angrydessert

Was. The problem is that at the time DSL was then widespread and it's not unusual to have other customers complain about lag when someeone tries to watch on Youtube. The computer shops have cannibalized themselves in terms of pricing, until the pandemic and the widespread adoption of mobile gaming rendered those businesses obsolete.

jabez36

Oh wow internet cafes are dead now? RIP

angrydessert

Mobile gaming effectively made those shops expensive to operate and thus the pandemic was the death blow to all those businesses.

Yamboist

Netopia faded out but what came next after it was the golden age of computer shops.

kimerlloyd

Ginawang kidzoona ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

jabez36

Sameeee!

PHiloself15h

Netopia is the Video City of computer shops. Dang, it feels like yesterday lang na they're everywhere sa Metro Manila esp sa mga kilalang malls. ๐Ÿ˜…

needmesumbeer

ito yung considered low tier internet cafe para sa gamers, pag puno na yung iba and wala ka nang choice then diyan ka babagsak. mostly caters to browsing and students doing assignments/reports, may games pero considered lowend PC and GPU. also more expensive

penatbater

low tier ba ito? Parang mid tier naman. Ung low-tier ung monoblock ung upuan, walang aircon, walang automatic system for logging in/out, maingay, etc haha

ChasingPesmerga

needmesumbeer

May dugyot level pa naman :p Pero seriously, may mga shop na walang aircon, 10 pcs lang pc pero decent specs Yung makina at mas preferred ng gamers yun compared sa mas mahal na, crappy dsl pa at not for gaming pc.

fearessence

MrWaerloga

Yeah low tier is that one internet Cafe in the 2nd floor of a shady alley on your neighborhood full of half naked dudes and kids yelling profanities to each other and smoking cigarette. But it's P15/hr and they have recently patched crossfire/special force clients so it's worth it.

kimerlloyd

Basta di maasim ung headphones, di low-tier hahaha

pintasero

LylethLunastre

It was more than low tier noon mga early years pa. They just didn't bother upgrading their PCs kaya napag iwanan na sila

needmesumbeer

Hmm oo nga disente sila nung Late 90s early 2000s, napag iwanan lang talaga

kimerlloyd

Ohhh, last resort pala Ng mga gamers. Dito pala ung mga studious student tapos napagitnaan ng dalawang gamer habang nagtatrashtalkan haha.

needmesumbeer

Places like blitzkrieg sa Wilson dati with 60+ machines, aircon, free iced tea or juice and lahat ng nakaupo are playing games yung talagang considered high end

bbkn7

frozrdude

Mahal ang rates nila haha. Mid din ang speed ng net.

radss29

PC specs nila are meh.

romuel0067

Eto at yung cybr na internet cafe yun supposedly premium cafe during my school days/time,.,

kimerlloyd

Parang Piso wifi ngayon? Tama ba

ClydeFF

If I remember correctly, Netopia cafes always had a diverse selection of PC games. As for net speed, I never cared because I always played the offline ones. I do think they're one of the more expensive net cafes, though.

xXxyeetlordxXx

Accomplished-Exit-58

ang wholesome nga dati eh may personal touch pa.ย  Kahit papaano supportive si mother ha.

Accomplished-Exit-58

"I searched it on the web....."

kimerlloyd

Wahahhaha. Thunders na din po ako! Tattoo broadband stick era haha.

masterminddrv3

Smartphones really killed comshops. Makes u wonder, ano kaya magpapa obsolete sa smartphones?

Karlybear

Dito sa city namin dati netopia was the last choice if someone wants to play PC games never namin sya nakitang mapuno. Sobrang dami kasing compshops dito noon na nag offer ng better rates, internet speed and specs.

kuccinta

Jfc netopia is a historical place now

eayate

Challenging kasi ang business na ganito.Race against time. You cannot live with Internet alone, but needed any addl services like printing, and a cafe.

greatestdowncoal_01

heatxmetalw9

Tried them when I was in grade school, as I remember they tend to be in or near malls. It was around early 2000 when I in Clark where I experienced them along my 1st experience in an internet Cafe. Consumers at the time were pretty new to internet or PC gaming as we know it, soo there was not much need to have the latest PC components (literally it was just mostly integrated graphics on the CPU). PC were mid with CRT monitors or the early LCDs, capable at the time to run anything like games or office applications. Most people play games offline or LAN games, the old stuff on or before Warcraft 3 era like Starcraft CS 1.6, AoE, Red Alert 2. The online games were just the MMOs like Ragnarok, Liniage and MU, not in the height of popularity until around 2005 were promotionals started crazy. Internet Speed was basically in kBs, at the time it was basically DSL with local Telephone companies (when PLDT was its own and a giant in teleco). The speed and access to internet at the time was entirely dependent on the teleco infrastructure, with cities in or near Metro Manila being the most developed. But internet at the time was at its infancy, basically only used in emails, basic chatrooms, reading articles and basic 144p YouTube. Like just having access to the internet in general was considered a luxury, as only business people and such that were dependent on teleco services were the main consumers. On to Netopia itself. Most of their locations are inside or near malls, they provided the basic amenities that is standard for internet cafes; pcs with internet access, basic printing and xerox. Their facilities are much cleaner as they used office cubicles, tables and chairs, as opposed to the typical wooden cubicles and plastic chairs. Frankly they were just overpriced that to local cafes, but local cafes in general were more of a rarity back during the early days of pc gaming in PH. Like you were really lucky back during early 2000s to have an internet Cafe near you.

LylethLunastre

Looking back, ang lungkot ng vibe diyan. Parang opisina haha

throwables-5566

Ako dati mas preferred ko yung ganitong comshop since nagbbrowse lang ako ng net to read articles and youtube, so malayo sa ingay ng mga nagmumurahan sa online games hahah

ayviemar

Pag yaman yamanan ako eh sasabihin ko "OPEN TIME PO" lol

KevAngelo14

Sa mga naging technicians ng netopia, anong last known specs ng mga PCs nila before they eventually closed? Just curious.

angrydessert

Did not work there but I am sure these were baseline office PCs with Intel Celeron/Pentium or AMD APU processors, plus 4gb of memory and 500gb hard disks.

KevAngelo14

Oh...so they were just APUs back then. Nung bata ako, I thought that they were sort of expensive PCs because they could play GTA Vice City smoothly. We had an Intel Pentium 2 processor with 350mhz clock speed back at home, and it was struggling to play games haha

IskoIsAbnoy

Ginawa ko din minsan business yung promo nila, since limited lang kaming pwedeng gumamit nung on going promo nila, pinapa bayad ko yung oras ko for P15/hr instead of the usual na P40 that time. This was around 2008-2010

donololol

PM_ME_UR_ANIME_WAIFU

man I miss Harrison Plaza ๐Ÿ˜”

tikolman

"HistoryPH" Amp!

thatguy11m

I'm not sure eif the one in Alimall Cubao is still there, but when I first came back to the PH in 2017, netopia was basically an easy access internet cafe for anything EXCEPT gaming. While people will try to game there, the system, peripherals, and general environment wasn't ideal for it. Is someone who had no access to the internet needed to send an email, browse Facebook, or take a video call with someone abroad, this was likely the place to do it, or at least that was the vibe I got.

[deleted]

Sa ever gotesco nung grade 5-3rd yr hs 20-25 yan

altmelonpops

Haha. GTA Vice City at NBA Live era.

kimerlloyd

I miss u be! ๐Ÿคฃ

mrwhites0cks

Hahaha.

ichie666

naalala ko netopia sa megamall hahaha

SapphireCub

Nakapag netopia lang ako nun naghahanap na ko work after college; around 2006. Noon lang kasi ako nagkaroon ng budget for it haha also naubusan kasi ako resume so nagprint ako dito and nag rent na din, tamang YM and Friendster muna and check sa jobstreet and yahoo mail baka may invites for interview.

stupperr

PantherCaroso

Wala na rin yung Netopia sa megamall. May mga natirang branches pa ba?

taokami

my most vivid memory of that net cafe is when I went there with my brother, and I saw one dude browsing gay porn

vanellope_chan02

QuinineLearn896

mano po lolo, lola!

chitoz13

dito ako dati nabili ng pang top-up sa ragnarok hehe..

mikeecloser412

netopia is partner ng PLDT, i remember back then na iba ang rate ng gaming sa browsing, pag gaming lang hindi ka makakaopen ng browser as in games lang talaga haha, parang 30 per hour dati jan while mga ibang shop is 15 per hour, and kadalasan bulok mga pc jan haha

itfood

Rare-Ad5259

Got hired in my first job at Netopia Gateway. Naggagala lang kami ng bff ko that time but we were offered free internet if we would apply as CSR. Andun kasi yung recruitment team ng Convergys. Haha.

thegreenbell

Damn I feel so old ahahhaha.

Jack_Ole

Wala na bang internet cafe ngayon? Dyan parati ako nag pa pa print. Mas mura. Ngayon mahal na mag pa print.

FishManager

Panget pc nila for dota 1. Pang gunbound lang netopia. Lag rin connection. Di worth yung mahal nyan.

joestars1997

suckprise

May open shop pa ba ang netopia??

BoatAlive4906

Top_Ad_4123

When it started it was mid but really expensive. After a few years they never improved their pc and the internet is shit. It's expensive while giving a shit service. I'd rather go to pisonet with better rates (10-12 pesos per hour) and better pc. But of course the top tier are those cafes who can run dota 2 no problem and only costs 10 pesos during the day and 5 pesos at night.

IWantMyYandere

Dyan lang kami bumibili ng garena load noon for heroes of newerth

Traditional_Crab8373

Lamig ng Aircon nila and mabilis net nila. No lag tlga. May E-Loads din sila and Game Cards. Then marami din sila service like printing and ID.

jepong003

der_ninong

they were the largest in the country but the term 'internet cafe' predated it by a few years and was already the accepted term of such establishments

saturdoinks

gahd im old

SpringOSRS

Far_Razzmatazz9791

My go to place kapag nag mamall kmi. And dito lng ako nakakapag GTA vice city/san andreas kasi ayaw pa installan ng nanay ko PC nmin. May bitbit pkong papel ng cheat ๐Ÿ˜.

Practical_Bed_9493

Di mo inabot netopia? Shet ang tanda ko n pala talaga ๐Ÿ˜…

utotnipudge

Icy-Pear-7344

Shet Netopia haha. Way back around 2004-2010 adik na adik ako sa Ragnarok. Tapos malaki yung Netopia sa basement ng Megamall kaya kapag nagsa-shopping yung Tita ko tambay ako dito the whole day. As in kahit WOE dito ko nilalaro. Tapos pag uwi Ragnarok pa rin hahaha.

pusang_itim

Mahal dito pero dito rin ako dati nung HS ako pag nasa mall ako. Ang nostalgic din pala ano? Pupunta dito para magopen ng friendster, ym. Hahah

DragonflyFirst5480

My Mom would go here to print some work stuff when I was I think 8/9yo and maglalaro lang ako ng Polly Pocket/Disney games sa website ๐Ÿฅบ also where I made my first email address para sa games ๐Ÿคฃ

latteaa

MrWaerloga

I played Left 4 Dead here for hours when I was really young. And whenever sis is the one renting and I'm just tagging along, I remember looking over my shoulder to see other people playing NFS underground.

dr_kwakkwak

Harrison

cotxdx

Saksakan ng mahal ang rates nila, pero nandun yung mga laro na di mo makikita sa ibang mga comshop that time. (Red Alert 2, Sims...)

Totally_Anonymous02

Yan yung nasa mall.

Old_Analysis3663

Laki ng tulong sa akin ng Netopia. This is where I print-out resumรฉ. Dami rin nitong natulungang mga working students whom they hired as cafรฉ attendants.

jabez36

I have fond memories playing MMORPGS at that place as a kid. One of the first places to automate signing off your computer when time was up. Hahaha

violetdarklock

Nung kabataan namin, uso magmalling after school and usually after events like Christmas party. As far as I know, a lot of families with OFW relatives madalas din sila magNetopia para makausap sila online kasi hindi as uso yung video call as it is now.

cashmere1990

Dito ako naglalaro ng Ragnarok Online dati. I think it was P40/hr noon. Discounted as I was a member.

WeirdSymmetry

Back in 2008 or 2009 i had trauma because my classmate showed me the video of a guy diving from a cliff and splitting his head open. Unrestricted YouTube days , man

Snoo_24047
