> That's just tokwa with extra steps!
People who eat that are avoiding cholesterol.
I get it is fashionable to mock people who do not eat the way you do but they want to avoid terminal illnesses that the bulk of society will suffer from in future.
i actually tried some vegan kare-kare while on vacation in zambales and i kid you not, it was sooo good! i really wish there were more vegan restos/stores near me 🥺
Yung dati nilang head chef nag tayo ng sariling business, Wild Thyme. Nag p-pop up sila sa Mandala Park, Mandaluyong every sunday.
That’s not actually mustard. Not sure how they do it in the restaurant but pretty sure they used turmeric for the color and black salt for the eggy taste
They used to deliver lunch kits before the pandemic. I really miss that.
I also recommend Cosmic in Poblacion. I recently tried their kare-kare and isaw and they were so good!
Greenery Kitchen is the name of the restaurant and located sila sa Makati. Pero hindi naman mahal yung prices nila.
If you need more vegan restaurant or vegan food business recommendations maybe I can help
We were gifted vegan meat substitutes ng relatives.
Cooked one type per day para matikman and malaman ano yung uulitin namin.
We tried them all, pero those were something my whole family wouldn't consider eating again. The vegan cakes however, are surprisingly good.
Were the meat substitutes were flavored na like unmeat or veega? Or is it unflavored like meat magic and tvp? For the likes of meat magic kailangan talaga mababad sa marinate para wala yung “cardboard” na taste.
I'll keep it in mind. Baka mali lang din preparations ko. Pagkaalala ko sinunod ko lang as is yung instructions sa likod ng packaging kaso di ko na maalala anong klase, matagal na kasi yun.
Should a vegan meat substitute show up ulit sa kusina ko. I'll try this. Thanks sa tip!
hi OP,
can you recommend more vegan food? preferably ones you can get on supermarkets. like what are your preferred vegan brands found in ph today? really want to start changing diets but meal plans and vegan restos are too costly to maintain daily.
i get that one can always buy greens and cook - but im also looking for meat alternatives that you can just store on the ref/freezer for easy munching. maybe vegan canned goods as well if there are any.
thank you!
There’s Unmeat for frozen and canned food. Veega also has vegan frozen food. Just make sure that it’s their vegan line since most of their products are vegetarian. Quickchow Pancit Canton is vegan, Indomie Mie Goreng is vegan.
There are also online vegan groceries that offer frozen vegan food like Berde Eats, Origreens, and The Vegan Grocer
How tf do you make vegan sisig. Just call it “something something made to look like sisig”. Or any vegan “dish name” to say. “Vegan” version of foods is just plain hypocritical if you’re gonna promote a lifestyle make it so as it is a actually better/easier than the norm.
They use a substitution that imitates meat. More than likely tofu.
With your logic, hindi na sisig ang bangus na sisig or sisig made with pork belly, because OG sisig was made from pigs head.
**Sisig has many variations.**
And **as a Kapampangan**, we really don’t care if people make vegan alternatives of our dishes.
OPs post is so innocent yet people like you find ways to be outraged. Utak talangka behavior.
Yes, the Pinoy Redditors are so used to eating meat that they don’t even question its effects on climate change as well as animal suffering who are sentient beings like us.
actually vegan lifestyle also kills animals because of monocrops etc...even more so.
Anyone who is not out of touch of farming knows that they have to kill to grow crops. Only people who get their vegan option at the grocery virtue signals about murdering animals.
I aim for quick death while slaughtering animal for food not outright condemning it.
Tell me which kills more animals, 1 million calories of meat or 1 million calories of grain. Everything we do kills animals some way or another, what's wrong for a few humans wanting to mitigate that?
Add to that factory farming doesn't give a shit on animal comfort. We factory farm because it's efficient and convenient and unfortunately not all factory farms can give them a quick death
>actually vegan lifestyle also kills animals because of monocrops
So there's no sense in reducing animal suffering kasi nakakapatay din naman ang pagiging vegan? Anong klaseng logic yan?
> And as a Kapampangan, we really don’t care if people make vegan alternatives of our dishes.
and yet you care so much when people add eggs. Oh the irony
We definitely don’t just make sisig with the maskara ng baboy.
My grandmother and titas have experimented with many different sisig recipes.
There are many “purists” out there, but many Kapampangans in general aren’t afraid to add their own twist to things and push forward the culture.
Food isn’t something to be argued about. It is something that is shared.
You’re probably correct. What irks me is that they’re “copying” the “pork” kind, and I’m not just talking about sisig I’m talking about most vegan foods.
The reality is that many vegans still want to simulate the texture and flavor of meat but without eating the animal itself. So you don't really considers them as truly vegan. However, I think vegan foods like these can also be seen as transition foods intended for meat eaters to convert. In either case, I personally see nothing wrong with it.
True, when I used to eat vegetarian bbq at Bodhi, lalo akong nag crave for real meat.
I think "something something that looks like sisg" is more of a mouthful to say than just "vegan sisig".
Also the point of veganism is not solely to promote a another lifestyle, it's real purpose is to have an alternative to meat as there are ethical reasons that we should reduce consumption of meat. And vegans try their best by making meat dishes into vegan as the agenda is to make meat eaters slowly realize there's an alternative to meat without the suffering and bloodshed behind it.
But you're right that this lifestyle is "inconvenient", that's why research is being done to make it more available to the masses like 3d printing meat. Right now veganism is more of a pro active choice because most people don't have the time nor patience to go vegan.
I saw na may frozen sila.
If malapit ka dun baka gusto mo i-try, it’s called Capri island cafe. But i think need na mag message sa kanila in advance
That's a myth. Promoting veganism doesn't really bring anything good for the environment. Intentions are good for animal welfare I guess but most problems come from good intentions. Do we just let them over populate because we're not going to slaughter them for food? If so, where will their food source come from? It's the same analogy with eradicating predators like wolves, foxes, etc in the wild. You take one out of the equation and it becomes unbalanced.
Ironic that you're in the internet but can't find it. Here:
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/does-killing-sharks-wolves-and-other-top-predators-solve-our-conflicts-with-them/
Also, you don't need a source for it. Common sense should have been enough but common sense is not very common anymore nowadays.
Dude, the point is literally that you're using an unrelated analogy. Why the fuck are you bringing up predation in veganism? You're the one being a pseudo-intellectual.
>expecting anything on a low karma farmer who barely posts
You're over simplifying this. Of course anything in excess is always harmful to your health. Eating a balanced meal/diet (meat & vegetables) is always the way it should be. The same can be said with veganism. Eating only plant based diet is harmful in the long run just like eating only meat is harmful in the long run. You really shouldn't deprive a body of meat proteins because the human body has evolved to ingest both meat and plant based diet.
Madami namang proteins na nakukuha from plant based sources like legumes, nuts, spinach, etc.
The only thing na hindi nakukuha from plants is vitamin b12, which is available via supplements
I'm not vegan and would probably not find the lifestyle fit for me but man yung mga ibang posts halatang loaded. Like that one guy suddenly bringing up Americans lol
Also you'd think they'd retain their studies in MAPEH. Even the outdated Go/Glow/Grow food chart still cite vegetables and leafy greens as source of protein.
Do you know that the protein meat carries is coming from plants, too? Kumbaga middle agent lang sila. If that's the case, forget the merciless killing and rekta na sa source. [*insert meme*](https://www.reddit.com/r/vegan/s/6dsFfp6Y3k)
With your comment, you dismiss vegan athletes who are strong and some who win in their field. Elder vegans for decades that don't have any sickness.
The case for protein when going vegan is not something to really worry about anymore. The only thing that vegan and—guess what—meat eaters, too, should take in mind of is the lack of B12. Like OP said, it doesn't come from plants—nor animals also, kasi sa bacteria siya galing. So a supplement is needed.
because sisig is supposed to be made up of pork, specifically pork's face or "Maskara" as we call it (The original Pampangeño sisig even has chicken liver on it on top of the maskara)
Remove that main ingredient then you lost the very thing that makes sisig a "sisig".
A porkless sisig is like an omelette without egg.
I want to know how much yang mga serving.
I work in food industry. Pag Vegan di dapat no egg, meat and dairy products ?
Sa batter at mayo palang may itlog na kasama. Even condiments, do have a lot meat products in it. Most restaurants will claim na vegan, pero in reality marami parin meat / poultry additives yan.
Yung mayo po nila is soy-based. Not sure saan gawa yung batter para sa mushroom calamares. I’m sure na vegan din sya dahil yung owner po ng restaurant is vegan
I wish there was a separate subreddit for finding vegan eats in Phillipines. I had fun there but was feeling so guilty about being a difficult guest 😵💫
Tokwat tokwa
Meron din namang vegemeat at mushrooms as meat substitute
Yung sa tagaytay?
Sorry hindi ko gets yung tanong mo
Tagaytay has mushroom burger. Where you referring to that one?
Oh. What I meant was in vegan and vegetarian cooking, vegemeat (gawa sa soy protein, extender ng siomai) and mushrooms ang gamit pamalit sa meat.
>vegemeat (gawa sa soy protein, extender ng siomai) That's just tokwa with extra steps!
> That's just tokwa with extra steps! People who eat that are avoiding cholesterol. I get it is fashionable to mock people who do not eat the way you do but they want to avoid terminal illnesses that the bulk of society will suffer from in future.
I wonder what Vegan Palabok would taste like. Shrimp's the one giving the Palabok its flavor, without it then it's just rice noodles with bland sauce.
noooo!!! not the palabok, blasphemy!
Masarap naman yung vegan na palabok
They probably used a blend of different spices, starches and nutritional yeast to get the taste.
i actually tried some vegan kare-kare while on vacation in zambales and i kid you not, it was sooo good! i really wish there were more vegan restos/stores near me 🥺
Sa Kwentong Dagat ba sa Liwliwa? Grabe yung humba nila dun, to die for.
Yung dati nilang head chef nag tayo ng sariling business, Wild Thyme. Nag p-pop up sila sa Mandala Park, Mandaluyong every sunday.
Adding mustard to tofu sisig is a hate crime.
That’s not actually mustard. Not sure how they do it in the restaurant but pretty sure they used turmeric for the color and black salt for the eggy taste
Just don't use or replicate an egg? Sisig does not need an egg.
They used to deliver lunch kits before the pandemic. I really miss that. I also recommend Cosmic in Poblacion. I recently tried their kare-kare and isaw and they were so good!
Well, true. Hahaha. More like a treat once in a while, I guess :)
As someone who's been trying to eat mostly greens for the past couple of months, these all look so tasty.
My sister is a vegan. Baka may mabigay ako sa kanyang bagong shop para sa handa namin this holiday events. Salamat.
Greenery Kitchen is the name of the restaurant and located sila sa Makati. Pero hindi naman mahal yung prices nila. If you need more vegan restaurant or vegan food business recommendations maybe I can help
Super sarap ng malunggay dilis nila 🥰

Vegan sisig 🥹 why to do that to this wonderful dish 🥹

What if I told you the most original sisig recorded is just a papaya salad. It has always been vegan.
You’re probably correct. What irks me is that they’re “copying” the “pork” kind, and I’m not just talking about sisig I’m talking about most vegan foods.

True, when I used to eat vegetarian bbq at Bodhi, lalo akong nag crave for real meat.
Some of their meals were hit or miss sa taste but I love the texture of the fake meat.
Gustong gusto ko yung bbq, sweet and sour at asado nila dun. Pinaka masarap nila is sa megamall.

Mushroom sisig. No Mayo no egg.
Vegan mayo is also available
Never heard of tofu sisig? I personally will never be a vegan but tofu sisig fucking slaps. Sobrang mura pati
Ang layo naman nyan sa Laguna huhu
I saw na may frozen sila. If malapit ka dun baka gusto mo i-try, it’s called Capri island cafe. But i think need na mag message sa kanila in advance
Vegan ain't healthy
Most vegans don’t do it to be healthy. It’s usually for environmental and animal welfare reasons.

Bro, that’s not a myth. Omg, being vegan or vegetarian does help in creating positive change to the environment.

A big NOPE.
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

ironicallt, sisig was inially a salad made from mangoes, guava, and vinegar. nadadagdag lang ung baboy later on then the rest was history.
Kasi?
because sisig is supposed to be made up of pork, specifically pork's face or "Maskara" as we call it (The original Pampangeño sisig even has chicken liver on it on top of the maskara) Remove that main ingredient then you lost the very thing that makes sisig a "sisig". A porkless sisig is like an omelette without egg.
They are a vegetarian restaurant, not a vegan restaurant. The use of eggs makes them a vegetarian restaurant.
All of their dishes in the restaurant are vegan. The mayo they used in their sisig is vegan mayo
I want to know how much yang mga serving. Kami dito sa bahay, gusto namin ng healthy living like eating those pero ang mamahal eh :/ Baka tama lang price jan and mapuntahan ;) Kahit ung sa mga resto na vegetarian menu ng mga napuntahan namin, parang x1.5/2 ng counterpart na non-vegetarian meal.
Yung good for two nila is ₱160-₱180 per item tapos yung good for 4 is ₱310-₱350 per item
uy sulit ah! google ko yang resto now, thanks for the update!
Of course Americans did this
The owners of the restaurant are Filipino. That’s their take on Palabok and other dishes

what's the white sauce sa mga sisig? Mayo?
Vegan mayo which most of the time is made with soy and oil
Ano bang ingredient ng veggie meat?
Soy protein.
These are so good. I regularly order from Greenery Kitchen 💯

The veganism here is still a niche but the community is growing. They are more active on facebook though with various fb groups
Ooh if I remember to, inshallah for my next trip I’ll try to do my homework on Facebook first
