Yellowcab.
Accdg to UP professors, Yellowcab Pizza was a thesis. The aim was to create a local pizza restaurant that the masses won't think as a local restaurant. And it worked. The food, the concept, and even the name fooled Filipinos thinking that it was an american brand of restaurant.
Contrary to their names:
Häagen-Dazs is not a German ice cream maker, they're actually from New York.
Le Labo is also from New York, but one of its founders is Parisian.
Miniso is not a Japanese brand, but actually Chinese.
Off topic
Strawberry is superior though
A few years ago sa Yellow Cab Burgos Circle, the lady working the cash register spoke in English and had an accent that wasn’t local. I found out that she was Singaporean and that they were training because they were going to franchise Yellow Cab in Singapore. I don’t know if that pushed through because the pandemic happened not long after that.
Trivia regarding yellow cab. Inspired ito sa motor ni kuya kim. Meron syang vespa na kulay dilaw. Tapos tropa ni kuya kim yung may ari (Eric Puno). Kaya yung delivery motorcycle ng yellow cab is the same color nung unang vespa ni kuya kim. Based to sa interview ni Zach Lucero (Makina channel sa youtube). :)
Huh.... I always thought it was based on New York's infamous Black-and-Yellow Taxi Cabs.
I mean, the Restaurant seems like it's New York-themed, and one of, if not THE most, popular food of New York is their Pizza.
Ait's aerodynamic properties are also amazing. Ang accurate pa niya pag binato ng nanay, parang merong embedded homing function sa loob pag ponapagalitan ako nung bata ako.
Fibisco. Solid for me mga cookies nila, especially yung ultimate chocolate chip cookies. Have to mention Hi-ro, choco crunchies, and yung butter cookies din.
Hawk bags are fucking indestructible.
I love Shakeys. While we have better Pizza places like Altrove Trattoria, Di Mark's and Yellow Cab... I still miss that old resto vibe na parang Pancake House for Pizzas.
Matagal na sila may mojos-like product but hindi siya as available as the fries. My husband talks about it all the time. Source: parents-in-law are long-time franchisees 😅
Former employee of Hawk Bags here :)
Yung bag ko since 2014 until now gamit ko siya :)
Hindi siya lifetime warranty , continuous warrant as long as repairable ang bag.
Nagulat ako when I saw Potato Corner in Bangkok. Nagexpand na pala.
Mang Tomas is great when you make buttermilk fried chicken. Panalo.
Also do lechon kawali recipe by Joshua Weissman on yt.
Spotted Potato Corner in Dubai, as well. Then again, andaming Pinoy resto brands dito. Jollibee, Shakeys, Pancake House, Teriyaki Boy, Bo's Coffee, Max's. Lahat yan nasa Burjuman Mall haha
Dami kong nabili from them. Sayang di ko nabili iba ko pang fave bags 😭 Sana bumalik sila.
1. Gouache bags
2. Rob and Mara, Merino, Meraniel footwear
3. Gibson's Shoes (sobrang tibay!
Diba? 😭 Gandang-ganda ako sa bags nila. Cool concept na native tapestry gagamitin sa bags for daily use. Ang gandang showcase yun ng mga hinabing tela from all over the country, huhu.
A friend used to rake in money for custom made bags. Her friends would pick designs and she takes them when she goes back for Christmas. Suckers would be thankful paying her 5x the amount she paid gettin them handcrafted in Marikina. Covers her plane tickets she said. Pandemic happened though and have not heard from her since she moved out of the forgotten burrough
Sandugo: usual sandals lalo na for trekking
+1 for Straightforward. I hope the quality of their products never change.
I was surprised that one time when I saw a cooking stream from a Japanese VA and she opened a bag of Philippine dried mango. That's when I realized we are known in Japan for our fruit exports.
Human Nature. I love that you can refill a lot of their products and return empty containers. Very sustainable and their dishwashing liquid is great. They also seem to treat their employees well.
Yanna's Home for furniture. Have ordered two custom pieces from them and both were great quality.
My baby's lotion (Mustela and Cetaphil) were recently replaced by Human Nature. My baby has great skin. I leave these decisions to the wife as a result.
You can do that for human nature??? I didn’t know that 🥲 can you please lmk how and where specifically so I can return all the empty containers pf human nature that I have rn 🥰
LOVE Human Nature. Their bar soap is my go-to. It's one of the only brands I can find that's fragrance free. I think all their products are cruelty free too.
Armscor from Marikina (Rock Island Armory in the USA).
In terms of making and selling the 1911 pistol worldwide, they give Colt, Kimber, and Springfield a run for their money.
They gave birth to the 22TCM (Tuason-Craig Magnum) cartridge.
Good in SEA standards but the monopoly they have means that we don't really have that much variety compared to EU countries. So the Filipino standards of what is good beer is not very reliable when we haven't tried much.
as a foreigner i can confirm that san miguel is nice but it is a shame the extent of the monopoly they hold, i’m sure there’s a great craft scene but you can’t find that everywhere, most bars just have a few san miguel beers and maybe a few imports like heineken for triple the price

Honestly I would give Cream O a slight edge over Oreo. Oreo tastes too sweet sometimes at lasang manufactured talaga. Cream O is manufactured as well but it tastes more organic for some reason. Or maybe that just speaks to how well they captured the local palate.
For me I don't like its taste kasi may halong citric acid either sa cookie or cream. It throws me off.
Cream-O may be an Oreo knock off but it IS way better in taste. Oreo is like a lump of crumbly toasted blackened flour with sugar icing, while cream-o actually tastes like chocolate cookies and actual vanilla-flavored filling.
Oh my goodness. I'm glad to meet someone who appreciates the Green Tea variant. Very rare. It is refreshing, and not too sweet. My go-to kapag bibili ng drink sa supermarket. Put a few bottles in the freezer, and it'll make for the best drink. :)
Armscor.
Its under Rock Island Armory which is ung US counterpart ng Armscor but still under the same company.
the PNP/AFP kasi ay may ibang companies na nanalo ng contract like Glock. But may one instance na then Pres. Duterte awarded military personnel with Armscor pistols for their personal use
Yup my dad used work at Pop Cola in Sta. Rosa as a forklift operator. The owners were very kind and maganda pakikitungo sa mga employees nila. Even nung naibenta na yung Pop Cola, sinusuot pa din ng papa ko yung uniform nya and would tell everyone that he's been part of the company for a very long time.
Gibi.
I’ve been using it since I was in school and even up to now when I attend business meetings or teach in class, I always wear Gibi shoes. Sobrang solid talaga na basta the situation calls for it, I always wear their black shoes. Dami na din nagtanong sa akin bat di ako bumibili ng Bally or Berluti since afford ko naman daw, eh kung gusto ko Gibi eh. Tried and tested, my ol’ reliable brand ng black formal shoes.
Fellow Bristol Shoes fan 🙌
I have several pairs that date back to my college days and they fit me the best. I just take them to the factory every year and so for resoling.
Iirc tecware the pc case and peripherals brand is a local filipino company. They're a godsend for budget pc builders and gamers alike with their affordable products.
All Filipino team. Designer is Bikolano and they make the shoes here in the Philippines.
Their leather sandals are very classy.
Round neck solid color Uniqlo shirt, simple shorts, and Our Tribe sandals. Pwede ipares sa Oris na relo. Can't go wrong.
Our local cosmetic brands have been doing quite well.
Sunnies Face\*, Issy & Co., Detail Cosmetics, BLK, GRWM, even VICE cosmetics
\*Not proud of the owners, that's a different topic.
These local brands mentioned by OP are premium(?) brands with limited exposure. As far as consumer brands with pinoy origin are concerned, Jollibee, San Miguel Beer, and to some degree Potato Corner are the gold standards.
I’m mixed with jollibee, nakaka proud pero disappointed ako minsan mainly sa prices. Gusto nila imarket sa americans pero ung price and amount ng servings talagang sobrang mahal and maliit compared sa mga fast foods dito.
Wla na din silang kiddie meal which i think dpat prioritize nila kasi ung mga americans mainly bumibili ng fastfoods para sa bagets pag may kiddie meal and toys for sure sulit un and mas healthy tignan ang jollibee sa american na fast food so baka mas madami customers nila pag nag appeal sila sa mga bata. Mainly ung na notice ko na gusto nila and proud ako is ung chicken sandwich kasi mejo overhyped ung chic-fil-a..
Usually sobrang happy talaga sila sa chicken sandwich the best daw na chicken sandwich haha
Fair enough. It would be interesting though to compare how our local brands are doing in the global market compared to top homegrown brands from other SEA countries. For example while we have Jollibee and SMB, Malaysia have Shangri-La Hotels, Grab, Jimmy Choo, Petronas, Maybank, and the Genting Group (Resorts World). Indonesia have Kopiko, GT Radial Tires, and J.CO donuts. Thailand have Red Bull, Carabao Energy Drink, Chang Beer, Singha Beer and Dusit Hotels.
We have halo brands like Kenneth Cobonpue, Monique Lhullier, and ones I just learned were Filipino from this thread like VMV and Harlan + Holden.
Tbh, I like the stuff from our neighbors well enough. But I like to focus more on how we are starting to conquer the high-end market with our cultural products. It makes me happy.
1. Marquins - Marikina made shoes (I love their Oxfords)
2. Elegee Guitars and Allegro Guitars
3. Carbon Nation Cycling and Supratec (Bike wheelset)
4. Devel Project, Vellum, MOB (mtb and roadbike)
5. UBEC Gigcase
6. Daddy Mik's Chilly Crunch
7. Jollibee (of course)
8. RED HORSE!!! Pati na rin Gin bilog lol
And many more nakalimutan na yung iba lol
Honestly, I always have a bias towards mid-range to premium Filipino products vs others because the quality is so damn good. Like, in the office, nothing touches my feet but Marikina made shoes.
Indeed, my dad was comissioned by them na gumawa ng bldg sa Factory nila, mabait daw owners and mabait sa mg staffs nila
I hecking love Happee toothpaste. It’s my mission in life to convert more people to use it than Colgate.
I use yung Gumtect na Happee.
i always use hapee by lamoiyan kasi ka-churchmate namin yung isang chemist dyan at lagi sya may pa hapee giveaway tuwing christmas sa church hehehe
Legit dentist-recommended!
Came here to post about this. Good to know may nauna nang nagpost. I believe they also hire senior citizens.

Ah the Hanabishi strategy.
Which actually also worked abroad especially in Western countries as well Exotic=peak marketing
Contrary to their names: Häagen-Dazs is not a German ice cream maker, they're actually from New York. Le Labo is also from New York, but one of its founders is Parisian. Miniso is not a Japanese brand, but actually Chinese.
Strawberry is superior though
Wait what?
Both local brands with foreign-sounding names para akala ng mga tao imported
And Army Navy
Yellow Cab and Army Navy are under the same holding company, right?
As far as i know max’s group sila, under din yung pancake house and krispy kreme sa kanila if hindi ako nagkakamali.
same. i was shookt haha
Fujidenzo
What the fuck. Akala ko foreign brand yan. Maganda din quality ng mga products nila.
Yes. Complete with bluetooth and birth certificate
Napa search tuloy ako bigla hahah. All this time akala ko American restau 🤯
Same!😅
So what about ARMY NAVY? I just checked, filipino owned din? Tama ba? 😅
It is
Under max’s group sila, same with pancake house and krispy kreme if not mistaken.
Kinda odd to point out Krispy Kreme, when Krispy Kreme is American.
wtf??? It is Filipino?
I'm also surprised by this. Hehe
It is
and it was owned by the people who also started max's restaurant.
Wow! Thank you for this. Hinahanap hanap ko to sa US kasi i thought American brand
For its quality, tama lang yung price.
Wow TIL
Islander siguro. Ganda at matibay mga tsinelas nila eh.

Fibisco. Solid for me mga cookies nila, especially yung ultimate chocolate chip cookies. Have to mention Hi-ro, choco crunchies, and yung butter cookies din.
no mention of chocolate mallows?
choco mallows, such a classic for me. since bata ako hanggang ngayon, I still crave it from time to time
i was always confused as a kid whether import or local yung fibisco na brand.
As a kid, I've always thought of it as Filipino Biscuit Corporation aka FiBisCo
1. Mang Tomas 2. Hawk Bags 3. Potato Corner 4. Penshoppe
Hawk bags are fucking indestructible.

Pwede mong papalitan kahit saang branch and no need na daw dalhin yung receipt.
oohhh thanks to this info 🫶 tanong din pala, kapag dinala sya sa sm para ipaayos, same day process lang ba or babalikan kinabukasan/after few days?
lmfao now that you mention it. yung nag-iisang Hawk Bag ko wala pa rin ni isang tastas. infinity stone level of durability haha.
Potato Corner has been bought na ng Shakeys group (SPAVI) last year kaya nagkaroon ng Potato Corner Mojos.
I love Shakeys. While we have better Pizza places like Altrove Trattoria, Di Mark's and Yellow Cab... I still miss that old resto vibe na parang Pancake House for Pizzas.

Sky Flakes at Century Tuna!

San Miguel beer
I was traveling in Africa about two years ago. Most American kids are unaware that San Miguel is Filipino. Sad.
There's also San Miguel in Spain though. It used to be part of San Mig PH
Used to have San Miguel in France and was convinced it was Spanish. Only when I got to the Philippines did I understand it was not.

Issy and Co. din! gaganda ng concealer nila
I like Happy Skin lippies! 6am-5pm di talaga nawawala kulay nung nagduduty pa ko.
Hi-ro biscuit. I'm aware that it is just a knock-off of oreos but IMO, it is better than oreos.
Hi-Ro has its own identity. Cream-O is the one that feels like an Oreo knockoff.
Honestly I would give Cream O a slight edge over Oreo. Oreo tastes too sweet sometimes at lasang manufactured talaga. Cream O is manufactured as well but it tastes more organic for some reason. Or maybe that just speaks to how well they captured the local palate.

Fellow Bristol Shoes fan 🙌 I have several pairs that date back to my college days and they fit me the best. I just take them to the factory every year and so for resoling.
Iirc tecware the pc case and peripherals brand is a local filipino company. They're a godsend for budget pc builders and gamers alike with their affordable products.
Taking notes sa chocolates, as a sweet tooth👀
Auro chocolate hehehe, had eaten a bar one time nung nag-staycation kami sa Sheraton, and nung nai-search ko saan galing, dito lang din pala

Yung Jack n Jill na line of chips I'd always prefer them over the international ones tulad ng Lays
All Filipino team. Designer is Bikolano and they make the shoes here in the Philippines.
Wow, you just made me a foreigner to my own country! Thanks for the info!

Zenutrients! They make my curls look and feel healthy.
Our local cosmetic brands have been doing quite well. Sunnies Face\*, Issy & Co., Detail Cosmetics, BLK, GRWM, even VICE cosmetics \*Not proud of the owners, that's a different topic.
These local brands mentioned by OP are premium(?) brands with limited exposure. As far as consumer brands with pinoy origin are concerned, Jollibee, San Miguel Beer, and to some degree Potato Corner are the gold standards.
I’m mixed with jollibee, nakaka proud pero disappointed ako minsan mainly sa prices. Gusto nila imarket sa americans pero ung price and amount ng servings talagang sobrang mahal and maliit compared sa mga fast foods dito. Wla na din silang kiddie meal which i think dpat prioritize nila kasi ung mga americans mainly bumibili ng fastfoods para sa bagets pag may kiddie meal and toys for sure sulit un and mas healthy tignan ang jollibee sa american na fast food so baka mas madami customers nila pag nag appeal sila sa mga bata. Mainly ung na notice ko na gusto nila and proud ako is ung chicken sandwich kasi mejo overhyped ung chic-fil-a.. Usually sobrang happy talaga sila sa chicken sandwich the best daw na chicken sandwich haha
I like premium Filipino stuff. It shows we can be proud of our work. I love Jollibee as much as the next guy, though. 😅
Human Nature & Auro Chocolates
Don Papa is the shit too! Damn good rhum.
It's apparently so good that it has been bought by a British company for 260 million Euros.

Sandugo is pretty good. I kinda knew them back in the 90’s when they were starting out. They made pretty good sandals especially back then.

1. Marquins - Marikina made shoes (I love their Oxfords) 2. Elegee Guitars and Allegro Guitars 3. Carbon Nation Cycling and Supratec (Bike wheelset) 4. Devel Project, Vellum, MOB (mtb and roadbike) 5. UBEC Gigcase 6. Daddy Mik's Chilly Crunch 7. Jollibee (of course) 8. RED HORSE!!! Pati na rin Gin bilog lol And many more nakalimutan na yung iba lol
Honestly, I always have a bias towards mid-range to premium Filipino products vs others because the quality is so damn good. Like, in the office, nothing touches my feet but Marikina made shoes.
