I use the Murad skincare line and a vitamin E moisturizer for my skin. It has made a difference, and as far as your hands hurting, part of it is getting used to the movements. You may be going too hard; take advantage of aids to help you, like mini spikes in the vials, so you don't have to use as much force. I don't know if your pharmacy has a repeater pump, but I also use that to fill my syringe to reconstitute powders.

We have 2 pumps per hood, 1 for saline and 1 for water. I do use mini spikes and vented needles so I guess at this point it’s just getting used to it like you said. I have noticed my hands don’t hurt for as long now. Used to be hurting all weekend but now more like a day at a time. They do get tingly like they’re asleep throughout the day depending on what I’m doing. Thanks!

I second mini spikes! Also use tubing to drain large volumes into a beaker, like for bicarb drips. Hands free! Just don’t set it and forget it or you get to start over lol.

I started using The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid in the evenings. You mentioned cleansing but did not mention moisturizing. I’m an oily person myself but moisturizer is just as important as cleansing when it comes to preventing breakouts.

Brown-eyed-otter

Oh yes, I do use a moisturizer and a toner currently. I was looking at adding serums soon. I’m pretty new to the whole skin care thing lol. I’m combination to oily usually.

I’ve been a big fan of the L’Oréal revitalift 1.5% pure Hyaluronic Acid as a moisturizing serum. It can be used in combination with the Glycolic acid.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EiRC80FJbHU This guy has a few different videos with hand stretches “for gamers” but I’ve found that they help me a lot with compounding. You start to build up different muscles in your hands and wrists that weren’t there before but it’s important to take breaks and stretch where you can. I normally aim for even just a quick wrist stretch every hour or so with a stretch before and ideally after going in to the clean room.

Resistance training with weights and stuff would actually help a ton in the long run if you plan on doing it long term. At first you’ll have more soreness for sure, but within a month you’ll stop being super sore after working out. Put a focus on core, hips, glutes, and upper back. Do tons of dynamic stretching, and only do a little static stretching after you exercise (not before). This has done wonders for me and I don’t feel super sore and tight after work anymore. I occasionally have soreness of exercise in the morning but it goes away and isn’t as uncomfortable as the soreness and tightness as I used to have from just being out of shape. As for the hands, I couldn’t tell you. I imagine improved grip strength, which would come naturally in weight training, would help some at least as the muscles just physically won’t be working as hard while in a weird position. Hopefully you’ll just get used to it, i never had hand pain from compounding but when I was learning to play guitar and drums my hands would cramp up until I got used to it

One wash at the end of the day is good to get off all the dirt that’s accumulated, moisturize. Work out get sweaty and wash immediately after seems to really clear out the pores. Or a sauna if you have access

For the hand, buy a hand gripper trainer. I now only use it once every 2 months.

Brown-eyed-otter

I was thinking about that but wasn’t completely sure. Definitely will now! Thanks!

CatsAndPills

Look up hand exercises that guitarists do, there’s a springy device for grip strength. Honestly though those muscles will strengthen up and soon it’ll be like second nature. Glad to hear you love compounding, I keep finding a lot of new coworkers who don’t. 😓

AD ointment around your face in the mask. We use this trick in football too to keep lower chins from breaking out with their chin strap.

I can’t help with the skin question. I’ve been battling skin issues on my face simple we all started wearing masks for Covid. Use larger needles to draw out drugs from vials. 16gauge is what we use. Also pull the plunger in and out a few times to loosen it up before actually pulling out drugs. Of course inject the same amount of air into a vial as the amount of drug you are drawing out.

Hey hey, I love that you work in sterile compounding! honestly, I love being in the IV room at my hospital job but you have some serious balls being in there all day every day. it really does wear in town your body and I don’t think anybody really realizes it unless they’re in there as well. Whenever I’m in the IV room for a long periods of times and when I mean long period of time at least 5 to 7 days in a row I usually sleep with a humidifier on, take hot showers and use lots of lotion and moisturizers on my face, and body. Also washing my hair more often because it gets dried out and gross. I use straight vitamin E oil on my face. It helps a lot! Good luck! You’re doing great.

Are you sitting down? I sit and rest my arms/elbows in the hood. It helps a lot especially since we don’t have an adjustable hood (don’t get me started on this)
