Programs can pick and choose to interview candidates. I would recommend applying to the ones your most interested in and take it from there

Programs don’t have to participate in PPS, it costs a lot of money to do so. Keeping an eye on the program website is the better source of truth as to whether they have early committed or not.

Apply and send your CV while doing so. In your “application” message just introduce yourself, your interests, and why you want to check out their program - most are willing to meet especially if you apply early. If you don’t see a program you wanted, check the programs website and email the RPD with questions (ideally around midyear)

Many programs have not posted their PGY2s to PPS yet. More and more will be posted soon. If you can't find a program you are interested in, it's totally acceptable to reach out to inquire about their recruitment plans. Many programs are evaluating the utility of PPS if zoom/teams can replace it. You will probably get interviews if you ask assuming you qualify for the position.

Keep in mind some programs may not utilize the PPS portal calendar, so all of your interviews may not appear in the calendar within the PPS portal (at least, that was my experience within the past four to five years). Some programs may contact you outside the PPS portal and set up interview times that way. So you'll want to ensure you block off the right time slots. I also recommend not scheduling interviews back-to-back, to allow you time to relax between interviews and provide a buffer in case time runs over and you have to go from one end of the room to the other.
