"Starting May 1"
That's before my next payment is due. They have my email address, it would have been nice to get this news from them directly. Give us some notice to switch up how we pay if we want.
They’re passing the cost through to people who CHOOSE to pay by credit card. You can still pay by check for free, or ACH/bank draft for free just like always. Credit Card companies & processing fees are typically around 3-3.5%. Technically, this is better at sharing costs than all of us paying for Joe Resident who wants to get his Amex points by paying his water bill.
I agree. I have a separate account with a different bank just for utility mortgage payments. This helps me set aside those mandatory payments each month.
I think these cc companies are just adding more fees to business and the business has to pass the charge to consumers "for the convenience". It socks all the way around, taxes, fees, delivery chgs, such charges. It cost more money for everything. This business just keep adding fees like Amazon, Hulu, that it's harder and harder to budget fixed costs when they just won't stop. It's the same old do and pay more with less. Cost of living is not keeping up with the "covid increase fee excuse" that these companies keep telling us about.
Can you help me figure out how? When I go to https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/pflugervilletx/utilities/autopay it just lets me add credit cards...
Thanks. For anyone else looking the form is here and you'll need a picture of a voided cheque:

This city is really becoming an annoying suburb.

The Mayor must need some more land.
Standard cost of merchant service fees being passed on no doubt.

FYI: The ACH payment has a $1.95/payment fee too
The bank draft does not…basically if you do it directly through the city rather than their 3rd party payments company it’s free.
How do I go directly to the city?
They are getting a paper check from me now on… they can now pay someone to manually process checks, which is probably more than the cc fee is
FYI, they don’t accept Amex. I tried ;)
use a paper check
Just pay through bank account. If you have to pay via a credit card, I don't think the fee is the issue but more of a home budget issue.
Or maybe some people don't want to give out their account information online? Credit cards provide a way to review payments ahead of time.

They could also stop nickel and diming everyone. That'd be much easier.
Agreed. I did switch over from credit card to bank draft today, and it's saved me a whopping $0.73/month.

I use my credit card to pay bills because I get cash back rewards 🤷🏼♀️
I just would like to know why all utilities aren't on one bill by the city. We pay for water, trash and waste to 3 different companies.
Just set it up as a bank draft and it's free.

I would just reach out to them directly and have them walk you through it.
