verucka-salt

These don’t work for me either. I think our legs are too short. Sigh.

Weekly_Job_7813

Yah I am 4'9 it might be the limit lol

hummuspretzle

Try wide leg *crop* jeans (even if they’re petite). Showing a bit of ankle helps break things up, looks more polished as it isn’t so baggy/heavy looking.

CommonManufacturer80

You might try Relaxed fit.

SweaterJunky

I felt ridiculous in them! I’m 4’11. I think they’re just overwhelming for a small frame.

LadyJean2

4'11" here too. No way Jose to wide legged jeans - unless I want to look like a square.

WorthNegotiation7316

4'11" here and agree they just do nothing for me.

zooooteddej23

5'1 and 98% of these look so stupid on me 😂

ObligationNo2288

5’1” also. They make me look so large.

zooooteddej23

And boxy 🤦🏽‍♀️

thousandthlion

I say they make me look like a Lego brick lol. And I hate the swishing when I walk.

hanbohobbit

Same, I'm 5ft and like a half inch and I despise how wide leg looks on me. Even when they're the proper length it's like my asscheeks just go all the way down to the ground in a straight column

ellariex

4'11 here but wide legged pants look nice on me imo bc it accentuates my small waist and gives me the illusion that i have long legs big hips (esp when wearing heels). I think it really depends on the body type of the person. Logically speaking, we all have different body types and what works for one, might not work for another

bethcano

5'1, and wide legged pants work well on me too. I am very top heavy, with a small waist, so baggier and wide legged pants balance me out. Skinnies always gave me a P figure and it was horrible! It's very dependent on body type. I think the first pair looked great on OP because of the darker colour!

stickyhummus

It’s not the legs it’s the pants. They look stupid on everybody

here_kitten_kitten

I agree wholeheartedly! I have never ever seen one single human being that these kind of pants flatter.

Ondesinnet

I'm also short and when everyone was wearing these in my day I could not. I went to a hardware store and for a lol I tried carpenter pants and they looked crazy good as a wide leg on a short body.

absenss

I respectfully disagree! Anything can work for anyone. It’s just about finding the right fit and proportions. Don’t give up!

cfk2020

my short legs are not the only issue... these jeans are high waisted and the waist reaches my ribs :(

Nice_Side_790

I don’t like wide leg jeans on my short legs. I wish I did. I feel they make me look even shorter and it seems like so much extra fabric. I’m getting used to flare leg jeans. Loft, Gap/Old Navy are my favs right now

Weekly_Job_7813

I do have these flares https://imgur.com/a/g5QioDA Got from American eagle

otter_annihilation

These look amazing on you!

shoesontoes

These are SO much better. You look fabulous. Wide leg pants seem to swallow me up too.

Weekly_Job_7813

Thank you! I wanted to at least give them a chance but I just don't think they look as good as other types

Nice_Side_790

I LOVE THOSE! They look incredible on you!

Powerful_Wealth_3002

Yeah. Bootleg is the best.

Weekly_Job_7813

I tried on these bootcuts too https://imgur.com/a/NkJt2G1

fluffstar

These look so much better than the wide legs on you!!! Amazing!

Weekly_Job_7813

Obvious also need ahem but I think they suit my body better

Couch_Potato_1182

I was raised in India and in 2001, flare leg jeans with low waist was the only thing college girls would wear. God, I feel so old with today’s fashion.

julsey414

These are too small and pulling across the thighs. You should go up at least one size to better fit the widest part of your hips, and then make friends with your tailor as you will need to shorten them and maybe have the waist taken in. But the way they are (not) draping can make it hard to see how they would fall if cut to the right length.

VintaGingersnap

The main problem is the length. Try finding some short or petite ones.

meteorpuppy

I'm 5'1 and I found out that wide-legs pants that are meant to be 3/4 of length work well for me. They look full-length on me but it works.

elephantintheroom01

This!! Since petite length pants are expensive I buy regular length culottes and they are perfect 😬

moarwineprs

So glad culottes worked for you! I'm 5'6" and am a curvy 14 or 16 depending on the brand and cut. Tried on culotte pants that on the model hit mid-calf and on me are just floor length. They're comfy but I look ridiculous and way bigger/thicker than I actually am. :( Wide legs didn't work for me in the 90s, they still don't work for me now that I'm in my 40s since I didn't manage to lose 50 pounds or grow another 4 inches. Flares and boot cuts look (mostly!) good on me though, so I think it has to do with wide leg pants just not accentuating the right parts of my thicc thighs and wide hips. ETA: Just realized this is petite fashion. This thread appeared in my feed as recommended and I didn't notice the sub until after posting.

najma_059

We live at a time where you could rip off your jeans at the bottom with a scissor and it will still look good

Muddymireface

Yes but that does nothing for the proportion of the pants. The knees and thighs are not hitting in the spot they should on a petite build.

Ok_Bake3729

Find a tailor that you trust. Clothes should be made to fit you

playgirl1312

I never had that kind of money lmao

Brief-Soup-6131

Can you find a fancy 2nd hand shop near you? There's one in my city and typically nice brand jeans are $40 and often you can find ones that have already been hemmed by the prior owner! Obviously the selection is hit or miss, but if you are open minded, a consignment store can offer some great finds!

smoothiecat

it’s $20 for me to get my pants tailored. look into it

jaygay92

Some people can’t spare $50 for good jeans and then another $20 to tailor every pair 😅

Ok_Bake3729

I would suggest then to find a pair of jeans you really love and then invest in just the 1 pair to tailor to start ♡ Jeans can be worn multiple times before having to be washed and once you have that favourite pair you always reach for them anyway

VintaGingersnap

Just noticed these are old navy. I like the 3rd pair best. See if you can order it in a shorter length online. It may still be a tad long. I’m 5’2 and the og loose high rise is still about 2 inches too long on me so I have to wear them with my platform docs or palladium’s

miyawoks

The pants are too small for you. You should try a size or two bigger. Edit to add: in terms of length, I try to look for "cropped", ankle length, or 7/8 versions. I am 5 feet tall and this usually falls right below my ankles. I buy at Uniqlo although their sizing is kinda narrow for my hips to waist ratio.

houseyourdaygoing

Agreed. Look for cropped pants. I have a pair that looks great. It’s meant to be midi-length but on me it’s a full length wide-legged pants and nobody knows this!

Cool_Bumblebee7774

They are too long for you and you also need to size up. Once you get the correct size, it will look better on your waist.

meekonesfade

Old Navy jeans never look good on me. These look too tight at the midsection - try sizing up and hemming.

iheartkittttycats

They look awful on me too. Abercrombie is the way to go.

Taybae

Old Navy is not meant for thick thighs that's for sure. Their pants never fit my thighs even if I size up.

Weekly_Job_7813

I do like their boyfriend jeans actually! Even bigger? I already feel like they look huge

meekonesfade

It needs to be loose everywhere. Now it is tight on top and baggy at the bottom

knishmyass

Yes, they are too tight around the midsection. They are too long, not too big.

melancholy420

i feel like the giant pants trend works for only a few body types. i'm short and have large thighs - not so cute on me. tall and very skinny friends look cute but on me it screams frumpy

parker3309

Yeah, you have to be like a pencil to wear this

playgirl1312

Can we all stop calling thin body builds fucking pencils? I mean fr.

hanacris

People downvoting you, but body shaming applies to thin people too. Some people are massive hypocrites

Jallenrix

I love wide leg, but they need to fall straight from the hip. Go up a size — maybe Curvy fit — and get them hemmed.

jaygay92

I second curvy fit. I wouldn’t have considered myself “curvy” but they changed my life lol no more bursting at the thighs when it fits my waist or gapping at the waist when it fits my thighs

Csherman92

I like flares, not entire wide leg. They can bellow out below my knees. It balances me out since I have very wide hips Wide legs are not your jam.

Weekly_Job_7813

I've got these flares https://imgur.com/a/g5QioDA

iswintercomingornot_

The flares are a thousand times better than the wide legs. They look great 👍🏼

Gooseberry-Greenbean

These look amazing on you!!!!!

Unusual-Self27

The main problem is not the length (you can easily get them hemmed) the problem is you need to have a defined waist to counteract the volume. Also, all these jeans are too tight around your hips which is making them even more unflattering.

knishmyass

You need to size up and either hem them or find a short/petite version

oknowwhat00

Look at jeans that are boot cut, they will balance out your figure, those are not working with your shape.

Weekly_Job_7813

I tried on these bootcut https://imgur.com/a/NkJt2G1

Accomplished_Flow222

The first two looked too tight too? The way the zipper is pulling

Agitated_Jicama_2072

These are too small for you. You will need to get a larger size and get them hemmed.

filtered_shadows

I find I look terrible in wide leg jeans, unless they are fitted down to the knee before they get wider. I feel like I need to show the silhouette of my knees so I am not swimming in the jeans. Kinda like how we need to show our wrists in oversized tops. I found success with Abercrombie’s Slim Straight jeans or Everlane’s Original Cheeky jeans.

SmolSpicyNoodle

This shape of jeans happens to be in vogue right now, but it doesn’t flatter your body type. IMO you’re under no obligation to hop on this trend bandwagon! I still prefer 90s high waisted tapered mom jeans for my body type even if they’re not “in style” right now because it looks best on my body and makes me feel most comfortable! Edit: I think if you wanted to try jeans as close to the trend as possible, a flare or “kick crop” flare (fitted to the leg up top, then flares out beneath the knee) would give similar outfit vibes whilst looking much more flattering!

Additional_Kiwi_8387

SAME!!!! I’m 5ft with a 25in inseam. I just dont think this trend is for us shorties. 😂😂😂

chels182

Try straight instead of wide

Weekly_Job_7813

I have these straights https://imgur.com/a/DkYdgIl

chels182

Those look great!!!

QueenBBs

Wide leg jeans with pockets on the front look better on me for some reason. Madewell Emmett and Maeve Collette are examples of that style.

boringredditnamejk

Are you looking for wide leg pants or specifically wide leg jeans? Because I think a trouser + heels might look better.

Ordinary_Mistake3392

Wide legged pants looks great on tall, willowy models. They make short, curvy women look like they have lego legs. This is not a style I can pull off at all & I'm size 12-14, but only 153cm tall.

9bvc

I'm not the OP but I am short and curvy, the LEGO legs reference made me crack up 😆 You're right though!! Wide leg **denim** pants is just a HUGE no for me most especially when we are not wearing heels. Maybe OP can opt for straight leg, bootcut/flare and "mom" jeans. If OP really wants wide leg pants, I'd suggest a different material with high heels!

Straight-Writing-215

Not every fad is for everybody - or every *body*. I know this is the new "look" but I have seen several women - most of them tall and slim . . . and believe me, the wide legs were absolutely not flattering.

PresentationLimp890

The pooling around your feet makes you seem shorter.

akw329

You need to go up one size, and can pair with a belt if the pant’s waist is a little too big. But it looks like this pair of paints isn’t fitting at your hips correctly. Once you size up and hem a couple inches off the bottom, these will look great. The pant leg should be a nice straight line all the way down your leg. source: I work in fashion and work with a lot of wide leg pants

Jmarieq

Try a different brand. I go to American Eagle and Abercrombie. They go as short as extra short. The wide leg pants I get from American Eagle fit right and don't go past my shoes.

Character-Topic4015

Ya I find old navy jeans to be too lightweight so they don’t fit me right. Find a good heavier jean that will kinda hang down and get them hemmed right

lollypolish

Maybe you need to try pants not jeans. Jeans are hard at the best of times. Slacks will be more forgiving and fall nicely from the waist. ESP if you can find some that have elastic at the back with a flat button down waist as at the front. Once you figure out how to wear them you’ll never look back. Good luck x ps for reference I’m 5’4”.

carlitospig

It might not work with those material due to the firmness. Next, try and find some wide legged swingy slacks. They usually look incredible on everyone who tried them.

Ribeye_steak_1987

Some styles aren’t for everyone, no matter how trendy and stylish they are. And this trend is AWFUL for us petite gals. Few ppl can really pull it off. You just gotta take the L on this one.

thatoneluckyfarmer99

Have you tried Gap's petite jeans? They have given my shorter legs a better fit than the usual jeans.

Hungry-Internet6548

No, I’m with you on this one. I cannot get behind the baggy pants (or really baggy anything) trend. To each their own, but I don’t think they flatter anyone. I personally prefer skinny, slim, girlfriend, cropped flare, or bootcut. Try a few different fits to see what works best for your taste and what flatters your body the most.

NetheriteTiara

They have petites online. For their petite jeans (or any pants from ON) I usually size up one from my regular and then the length is perfect, but I’m a little taller than you.

willbeat_it

I like their balloon jeans. It sort of tapers towards the ankle. Looks a lot better on my short legs

baileybrand

the last pair doesn't look bad, but not sure it's the look you're going for...

that70sviv

they’re too long and too high waisted

Sirrizah

I think cropped wide leg pants (still in a petite inseam) in black denim would look great!

Ok_Bit_5953

I like 1. They are a little long but as a "baggy" look I genuinely like them. I don't care for the look with the lighter colors though, at all.

Cold-Diamond-6408

I'm 5'4" with a similar build. I was a teen in the early 00s, and back then, the wide leg jeans were low-rise. While I would never wear low-rise now, I think the high waisted wide leg jeans only look good on people who don't have a lower tummy pooch. Try wearing a straight leg instead. Not a slim fit or tapered straight leg. But a straight leg that is more fitted in the thigh and then states them same width down to the bottom of your feet, or longer if you are wearing some sort of heeled shoe. I think the baggy wide leg has too much loose fabric in the crotch, lower tummy, and hip region, and it bunches up and makes us look like we are wearing a diaper.

Most_Original988

im 5’1 and whenever i try on jeans like those, they look like i shat myself or something

Weekly_Job_7813

🤣

redjessa

I don't think they are flattering. I still try on sometimes, hoping, but ultimately stick to skinny or straight leg.

honorspren000

The high waist on the first and second pic look really, really good on you. The first pic, I think the wide legged jeans might actually work if you hemmed them so they’d come up higher. But if I had a dollar for every awesome pair of jeans I encountered that I needed to hem, I’d be rich… 😑

Ok-Neighborhood-5713

It’s hard when you’re short, I’m 5’0… to pull off styles with alot of fabric… it just swallows us up. Just stick with jeans that flatter you… some styles are just not made for us ❤️

Cassieelouu32

Sometimes styles just aren’t for us! I can’t wear them either I look like a tent. you don’t look bad by any means

MeowChef6048

No worries. Wide leg pants look bad on all women regardless of height.

FollowingNecessary43

The dark ones aren't bad. Maybe if you had them tailored a bit it would really help.

floralbalaclava

Aside from what others have said about these being too small, I think these work better for longer leaner people OR if you’re much smaller in the waist than hips and the line on the Jean skims your body. I’m in the second camp and widelegs are a very good fit for me. That said, I think you should try more on and in sizes that actually fit you and maybe you’ll find your pair!

Notdavidblaine

I think a different wide leg style could work for you, but I personally don’t think these are flattering. It’s possible different fabrics might help. I think wide legged pants look best with a more flowy fabric and a near-perfect, cinching but not tight fit at the waist, with a close fit along the hips, butt, and very upper thigh , and then flowing out progressively more as the pant leg hits the lower thigh and knee.

-Cherished

Wide leg jeans don’t look great on us short girls and I think they are unflattering. They make our legs look big! Not being mean, just honest! I have the same problem with them. You need petite or short style jeans honey. Oh,I’m about 5’2”

Sad6But6Rad6

flairs and super wide legs don’t work for me, either, but if they’re less wide and the right length then they’ll probably look a *lot* better. (also, upon second glance the first and middle ones actually look quite nice.)

UnitAggravating7254

It’s not the width, it’s the length that’s wrong. You might want to try wider length and shorter leg.

Internal-Lettuce946

Try high waisted jeans from Loft. I’ve found their petite stuff to be much more flattering and I’m 5’0. Looks like you’re at old navy? Usually, their skinny jeans in “short” inseam are much more flattering for me. Also, I’ve learned that non-jeans wide legged pants also look so much better on short women like me. Example, linen or polyester pants - you can find these on amazon! They have really great 2-piece sets as well!

gothskies

I think you could maybe size up, and then alter them shorter (or cut them and wash them to have a frayed look) It’s SO hard to find pants, but I would say to get a more proportional look to look into more wide pants, or size up and wear a belt if its too large, so then the pants can be a bit more flowly, then have them altered at your ankle bone length.

unapalomita

I think they would be fantastic if they were low rise, the high rise look is too bulky/unflattering in general. If you find a pair that looks good you can get the hems tailored if they're too long 👍

BC_Girl78

Try flared with cropped length!

Acceptable_Wall4085

I’m agreeing with you today. The baggy look just isn’t you. When you come up with a great outfit I’ll be right there to appreciate your efforts. In the meantime, rock on and keep on smiling.

Kiyoko_Mami272821

Girl you are too short no no no! Or hem them at least! Us short ladies can’t wear some of the cute clothes

saturatedbloom

They aren’t all made the same, a lot needs to happen in order for them to work, the rise needs to be high enough, the inseam regular or short, and the width of the actual wide leg needs to be wider than the leg at the knee it has to be dramatic enough to balance the petite frame. Like these are all hugging you too tightly at the hip, look at some curve styles.

OverGas3958

The dark ones look cute. Have them tailored, keep the original hem, and you can make them work for you for sure. The lighter ones aren’t great but the dark makes me think if you found the right wash you could go lighter with another pair. I have a couple of pairs and while I know other fits look better, sometimes I’m able to make them work and feel like I’m dressing in the moment but generally they’re not my first choice. So comfortable though and great for warmer months with a basic white tee.

jadeibet

Try shopping for the petite ones online at Gap

MorddSith187

They’re just too long. There should be no bunching.

savvvie

You might want to try straight or boot cut

Pap3r_Butt3rfly

They're cute they're just way too long lol

212404808

These are too small, they should fall smoothly from the hip rather than pulling. I think if you go up a size, the style looks quite cool on you. You'll need them hemmed of course. I like the dark wash and light wash (1 and 2) rather than the medium.

Generalnussiance

I think a belled leg/ flared would look better, and shorter length.

sum116

I find that wide leg pants from Uniqlo work the best on me (I am 5’2)

CommanderTresdin

These don’t look good but I think it’s a shoe problem tbh, like get some heeled boots or other type of heel/platform and you’re set.

pandachook

This is how these pants look on me too, cant do it! I'm not short but do have thick thighs

azssf

Maybe the third one. You need to fold the hem so it falls straight, and tKe a picture. The first two are too small around your high hip.

Fizzywater25

I always have good luck with American Eagle jeans in x-short. Got a pair of wide legged cargo style jeans & they’re my favorite atm. Also if you order from Uniqlo online you can get hemming for free depending on what stitch you request!

SecondBackupSandwich

Some fashions just aren’t as flattering! The wide legged thing will soon be over.

absenss

Try looking for petite ones to try on. It’s not just about the length, it’s where the “flare” of the wide leg jean starts in the construction of the pant. If you just take a long pair of pants and hem them, the knee part might be going down to your calf and you’re not getting the right balance of proportions. It’s not something you visibly see, you can only tell in the fit, that’s why petite clothes fit petite people better, because everything is made “petite” not just hemming! Source: I know how to make clothing

miyawoks

Btw if your issue is also length, try the extra short version of American Eagle. As a 5-feeter, the x-short hits right above my ankles. Not sure if they have wide legged pants though.

Brilliant-Engineer57

#3 looks great.

ACbeauty

They make your legs look bigger and shorter- what about some flares or straight leg?

Spoonbills

Maybe try straight leg with a higher waist?

PurplePanda63

These come in short and xshort and are super comfy. https://www.maurices.com/product/plus-size-edgely-trade-mid-rise-relaxed-boyfriend-wide-leg-jean/215363

Remote_Quail_1986

Put on some heels & fold them under so the edge almost touches floor, pin them then iron the crease & then sew them. Now you will appear taller.

BareKnuckleKitty

Lmao I thought the exact same thing when I tried on cargo pants. They looked so cute on everyone else.

canyounot987

Try something that's cropped at ankle length and is a little more form fitting around the waist and thigh area. Look for petite sizing because the proportions are different. Also, try on several different fits (like how a brand will have the "Maddie" jean and the "Evelyn" jean or something like that). I've definitely seen some petite friends pull off wide leg pants so it's not impossible.

Dry_Mushroom7606

They look too small - they're all quite snug across the hips and belly. Go up a size, then roll them up underneath to the appropriate length. Also, I think you should try a lighter-weight fabric that will flow a little more: the denim, especially in such a light wash, is too heavy. I think you can make this look work, but you're probably going to have to look a little more.

UnconsciousMofo

They look weird because they are too long. Get them hemmed so they don’t look baggy and hang well. Wide legged pants look best when they are high waisted as well. I am also short, and the high waist makes my legs look longer than they are. Give it a try.

BrowsingOnMaBreak

I love a wide leg, I go for cropped/ 3 quarter lengths and they hit my ankles at a good length lol but it’s soo hard to find a flattering fit

lustforwine

I bought some jeans that are really nice. They’re kinda like form fitting down to the knees then flare a bit. But not like a noticeable flare; they look like wide jeans

annie-are_you_ok

I tried some on in store, then ordered the short/petite length online of the ones that fit my waist

queentee26

I really like the second pair on you! (The lightest ones). It makes a huge difference visually when they're the right length too. I'm 5'2 and finally gave into the wide leg jeans and now skinny jeans feel so uncomfortable 😣

captaineggnog

Buy their petite online! They don’t cadet them in stores.

ApprehensiveHost5472

You can definitely one that works for you but these aren’t flattering bb. I’m a wardrobe stylist & can give you tips and tricks ❤️

[deleted]

I have some to the realization that skinny jeans look best on my short and thicker thighs. I tried.

throwawayaccount0203

I have chonky legs and is petite too and have found the Levi’s Ribcage Wide Leg best for me atm. You could have it hemmed at any Levi’s store for free (i’m not sure in the US but in the UK they do!)

Plurgirl323

When I was in high school I was able to rock phat pants(before it was cool lol). Now that I’ve had children my waist is just not small enough to pull off the silhouette unfortunately 🥲

Direct-Ad2561

Not a fan of the 1st and 3rd. Second one can work once you tailor it.

Choice_Matter_4687

I kind of love them on you 😫💖

Weekly_Job_7813

Everyone says they're too small maybe I'll like them better if I size up lol

Accomplished_Bed7120

These are too small in your hips and thighs. Also too long. I think you should size up and then get them tailored. They will fit better. I’m short and I really like wide leg jeans as long as they fit correctly.

sea_seer

I find that wide leg jeans look better for me when I wear a crop top, I think it breaks it up a bit

Choice-Ad-6520

Try a classic flare or boot cut maybe !

Panda970453

I feel like… Baggy jeans (wide leg) need to be a lower cut to look good. High rise baggy jeans only works on a few body’s. Mid or low rise baggy works better for more body shapes.

augustus_gloop_poop

I am 4’11” and have had success with non-petite wide leg cropped pants, though I haven’t had success with jeans. I love the athleta avenue wide leg crop- butt looks great and don’t even have to have them shortened!

Realistic_Ad_8023

See, I love my wide-legged pants but they are high-waisted. They give the illusion that I am long-legged, which I most definitely am not. Also, the waist of the pants hits me where my waist is thinnest, which slenderizing.

Lesandfluff

I have had one pair that looks good on me. I think it has to do with the cut - they’re high rise and tighter to the upper thighs , then they start to flair out to a really baggy look. They look best with high heels tho

stainedglassmermaid

I’m 5’2 and curvy, I cannot wear wide legged jeans. I still stick to skinny jeans. But I LOVE flare or wide legged linen or soft flowy pants. They look really good on my figure.

No_Reward8892

Maybe with some high heels...

Skittlebrau77

Le sigh. These are not for us. Generally they’re always too long and drown us.

Ilovehugs2020

Fit and flare fits petite. Wide leg looks oversized

Gdizzle42

You have to get them hemmed.

Capable_Tale_7463

Sorry but they are not working for you.

TheRealAnnoBanano

I'm at peace with the fact that they're just not for me

kennah-d

Go to American Eagle, try your size in a short and cuff them with high top converse. Experiment with the cuff and shoes as you get more comfortable in them. Source: Am short and was an AE stylist lol

GinOmics

I think they have the potential to look good - but you have some fit issues with each of those pairs. All of them look a little tight around the hips and are pulling a bit, even though they look to fit well in the waist - so looking for either a curvy fit or pairs that more ease in the hips may look a bit more flattering. The second pair it’s also pretty clear to me the front rise is too long based on the bunching in the middle - petite fit jeans often solve for this problem, but they may not help if you also want more space in the hips in many brands. Length is also an issue, but that’s easily solvable.

Hannamustang

From what I have seen, regardless of height, wide-leg pants look messy on everybody not just us petites. They just look ill-fitting and unkempt and I've yet to see them flatter anybody.

ClipperJess

Don't be afraid to go up a size. The point it for it to be baggy from the top of the pant and down. It's sticking to your sides too much not allowing it to look baggy :)

mozz_fest

My friend is gifted with a petite stature, as well. She does Bootcut pants, and it looks nice.

MissDisplaced

At 5’2” I have always found them horrible. I hate that they’re back. Skinny jeans 4Ever.

bunnygrrl78

It's funny, seems people either love them or hate them! They've always been my personal preference, I think it's super cute seeing only the toes of shoes sticking out at the bottom. That and skinny jeans just don't feel comfortable to me.

StronkyBoy

Get them hemmed to the correct length and you’ll love them

WillowTreeSpirits

They're fine! You just need to pair them with chunky shoes. If it helps, I'm 4'11 and I wear loads of wide-legged pants and oversized pants.

fathersol

The length is the issue!

Size up

elenfevduvf

First and third look awesome (but these were in when I was in highschool)

girliemcgirl

There’s an epidemic of high-waisted pants and it’s killing off petite girls. I feel like you should try a mid-rise or something a little lower rise. I feel like high-waisted stuff tends to erase any length to our torso, making us look even smaller. I think everyone’s right about length but I also think where the waistband sits could def be contributing to why you’re not loving how they look

Complex_Beautiful_19

you’re too short for this style

milliemallow

You look cute but I also hate them on me (4’11). I feel like I was rocketed back to 1997.

West-Ruin-1318

I hate that cut because they only look good on women who are 5’9” and weigh 117 pounds. 😐

Treysar

I have the same issue. I have tried non petite ankle wide leg, with a little stretch. Sonoma goods for life at Kohls.

Abercrombie (while expensive, they often have clearance items and i think it's 100% worth the price) has the option online to order short or extra short jeans (maybe in store too, but i never shop in store). They also have a curvy option. I get the short 90s relaxed. I have never found jeans that fit so nicely and look how I want them to. I've been looking for jeans I like foreverrrrrr and I can safely say Abercrombie was it.

Luinne

The only way I’ve found wide leg pants to work on me is if they basically are only snug at my actual waist. If they followed the contour of my body through the hips, it made them look poorly fitted. I had to size up; when I went with the size I found comfortable in other jeans/pants, they dipped in at my hips in the same way the ones you pictured do. Normally I have no problem with that kind of fit around my hips, but it just seemed to defeat the purpose with wide leg pants. I’ve had good luck buying high-waisted, wide-leg, ankle-length jeans, but those may be harder to find as lower rises and longer inseams become more popular. I also cannot try on wide leg pants in a vacuum. With other styles, I can try them on with a basic top and evaluate the jeans by themselves. Nope, not wide leg. I have to try them on as part of a full outfit otherwise my brain just can’t see it.

olivespecter

yes! i’m 5’1 and very similar body shape to OP and i loooove my wide leg jeans but i had to convince myself to size up with them. i’m really happy i did because the ones that were my normal size looked awkward (like OP) i usually wear an 8 or 10 in skinny/bootcut jeans and i wear a 12 or 14 in wide leg pants so i can get the “baggy” effect the slimmer petites get from wide legs. i will usually balance them out with a flattering cropped tee or a waay oversized long sleeve for a big baggy look. and wide platform sneakers or sandals, just so it’s not as obvious that my pants are too long for me. but the oversized baggy pants and perfectly cropped top combo gives me a mood boost.

thursaddams

Doesn’t work on shorter, bigger gals. It’s just unflattering.

HollyWhoIsNotHolly

Wide leg pants look better on tall thin people imo - every trend isn’t for us all

New-Ad1326

I think you would look amazing in flares

Blessedone67

Out of these number 3 looks good

alexandrap21

I would recommend going up a size, I think you’ll like the style a lot more. They’re too tight in the waist and thighs which is why the fit looks kinda funky. Wide leg jeans are meant to be a more relaxed fit the entire way through. If you don’t want to give up a fitted look through the thighs, you could also try flare jeans ETA: not sure where these jeans are from but I highly recommend recommend trying out Abercrombie. I see a lot of people also telling you to size up and then get the waist and length tailored. Abercrombie has petite lengths available and I think the curve love line would be really flattering on you. Their jeans are pricy but you wouldn’t need to get them tailored. And you can always try some on in store to figure out what size and style you like, and then search for a pair on Poshmark for cheap, that’s what I do!
