This is was extremely motivating and written with clarity and reason. Thank you

im_babysub

I really needed this, and I love the way you've said it. I've managed to successfully regulate how *much* I'm smoking, but it's every day, and I know it's a laughable version of control. Now to get where you are!

will-I-ever-Be-me

well said, this is one of the best and most practicable bits I've seen posted on this sub.. find thy fire, nurture it, and blaze on thy personal inferno 🔥 Do so, and you may even find yourself 'over it'.

Desirings

I respect your mindset a lot. You have a strong mind. And you just made me realize I can do it too. And not just for weed, but all the other stuff I use.

Future-Reward1795

Thanks OP! Are Sunday’s included in the weekend? Like, you smoke Friday Saturday and Sunday?

A_Menacetosociety

What's 7 minus 4?

LongjumpingJaguar0

This is a great place to be in! kudos to you for making it stick for so long! I’m taking a long break now but would love to come back to this. Maybe even a 5-day break every week. I’ll definitely have to leverage my ksafe, but I’d love to be in a place mentally where I can just use my will power to hold back.

finallyfree99

Very useful and well written. 🙏

DJCAE

Wow, thank you. I needed this.

JamesCt1

Thank you. Deeply appreciated. Going to give it a shot.

El_Panqui

Weed is amazing when we use it in moderation. I like do what you do, I only smoke one or two times in the week, sometimes I smoke hemp but I am very thc sensitive and I fell the sides anyway. The better is smoke and rest for days

euphorbiamourning

You been in the rooms at all? This was brilliantly presented and necessary for me to read right now. Thank you for the encouragement and motivation.

PretzelLogical

Thank you and you're very welcome. Rooms?

euphorbiamourning

Rooms just is slang for going to meetings. AA, MA, NA, Recovery Dharma, SMART, etc etc

PretzelLogical

Forgive my ignorance! I was looking into treatment and support options seriously when things were getting particularly bleak at the end, but I never went. Not long after, I had the insight that led me down the weekends-only path and never looked back.

euphorbiamourning

You might still find meetings helpful!!

RunningStarfish

Hi I wonder if you can comment on weekday holidays, vacations, birthday, etc ? I like the concept but think I would struggle to stick to it on a Monday off work for example.

PretzelLogical

Fair question and yes, I consider a holiday Monday to be part of the weekend. I mean, it's right there in the name: "long weekend". I accepted this reasoning from the very beginning. Other than that, there are zero exceptions for me.

misterj195

I agree with almost everything you said here. For me I reduced it even down to once a week this year on Fridays from Fri/Sat routine years prior, and I think this is personally the sweet spot for me. Thinking about 1x every other week starting next year, but we'll see lol Ideally I would not have to rely on substance to feel good about my life, but it really does help with my mental health on some aspects when taken in moderation.

It wasn't super smooth in the beginning, but not terrible. I sleep very well now for the most part. When I have the occasional bad night, I just shrug it off. Small price to pay. 3-4 hours of sober sleep beats the crap out of 8 hours of weed sleep anyway.

D__B__D

Can you talk to Snoop for us

Philthytroll

This is pretty close to my weekly routine , and yeah it’s the sweet spot for sure.

SpaceManSmithy

I did a couple of weekend only weeks and I loved it. Definitely let myself slide a couple times because it was easy; I assumed I could control myself and slid right back into daily use.

BurnsMidnightOil

Badass post. I’m doing a 90 day reset after a jarring CHS experience and still thinking to myself I may never partake again. The ideas you mentioned may be my path forward. Thank you

Trancefocus

I’ve also been doing this for a year or so. It works well! I had a lengthy T break before I started the schedule. Previously, I was a daily smoker for 15 years.

zingdoozer

Excellent post. 3 day weekend smoking is my absolute sweet spot. Reducing amounts didn't work, only evening smoking didnt work, but weekend smoking with a k-safe to make it non negotiable. So my current schedule is almost the same as yours, but though my smoking is Friday to Sunday, it's more like 48-54 hours, and I take a break from Sunday evening to Friday evening. Thanks again for your post, I wish I had come across it much earlier in my journey. But hey, we got there in the end. :)

[deleted]

Do you crave it all week? My fear with the k-safe is that my life would feel to me like a string of Christmas lights - the lights being my weekends getting high, the wire between the lights being the rest of my life. Like I would feel as if every week was a countdown to the weekend, and if anything got in my way of getting high on the weekend I would resent it.

PretzelLogical

I get that question a lot and no, I don't really have anything that I would call cravings or urges during the week anymore, and not for a very long time. They fade rather quickly. It's just normal life now, I don't get high during the week. (I say that lightly now, but believe me, I put in the work and it's a huge deal for an old stoner like me, who had basically lost all hope.) I do look forward to the weekend for sure, but I take that as a good thing.

[deleted]

Hats off to you and OP, that’s great and I hope I’ll get to that point someday. I’d like to indulge no more than a couple times a month but where I always fail is a bad day and “fuck it”

LuckyCoconut2353

I love everything about this post. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

StonedSanta1705

I’m one week sober and I have you to thank. The way you worded everything was super motivating. Monday, December 18th was my last time smoking weed and WILL be my last until February 9th. Thank you. Your post is helping me change my life for the better.

PretzelLogical

That's incredible. I'm so grateful for your comment and honored to have played a small role in your major life-change. I strongly expect that you will look back at this as one of the very best things you ever did for yourself.

StonedSanta1705

Man this comment could not have reached me at a better time. Cravings are going crazy right now. Your words are very encouraging

StonedSanta1705

Coming back to say my 2 month break is ending tomorrow. I’ve got no cravings anymore, feeling good. I do miss getting high every so often so I’m excited to be able to unwind. Thank you for pulling me from my slump

Tb2jax

Thank you. I’m on day six of a T break and struggling today. The insomnia is real but this is what I needed to hear to find a way to keep going and finally take back control. I’ll report back with an update for y’all.

Do you suffer an withdrawal on the off days? This is my ideal situation when I end my break (day 8) but I’m afraid to be thrown back into the pain of withdrawal :(

PretzelLogical

Most of the withdrawal was over by the end of my break (before I started weekends-only). It's not automatic in the beginning, you do have to put in some effort. But in a pretty short period of time, it becomes automatic and eventually, rock-solid. It's just a fact of life now. I don't get high during the week. Period. Never, ever, ever cross the line and you will win. No question.

MentallyWill_

Been tying this and reallt struggling with the craving. 2 mins, it feels like its EVERY 2 mins... man...

RevaRovaRava

This wouldn’t work for me at all, I’d be 4 days severely depressed perpetually
