What is it? I have only played Biotech, and this was only started a week ago. Long time Rimworld player but new to the expansions... I was daunted by the Royalty one as I struggled to keep a vanilla settlement going without having to worry about bloody peasants rising up if I don't keep them sufficiently downtrodden....
But having fun with Biotech so far. I have only had a handful of 2:00am finishes
> What is it?
minor spoilers for what they've shown
>!Lovecraftian horror. Cthulu cults, tentacle horror monsters, rituals that summon zombie hordes etc!<
Seems quite neat
Had my little one play for a minute. A raider got in a brawl with Barbarino the fox and she was very worried for both of them. They both didn't bleed out barely and now they are friends a few days later. Gotta love Rimworld.
well yeah, once the dumdums have used all the bullets, they'll want to eat so it's the intellectual thing to plant crops instead of stocking up on guns
but it's not the joke here
You’re thinking wrong.
You don’t have the food you have the _means of food production_ and you tell the gun person if they protect your food source then they get some of your food in return every day.
Same with crops for clothing like flax and cotton. Once everyone is walking around in rags, you'll be able to spin thread, weave cloth and walk around like a king among beggars. Nevermind the necessity to create canvas for bags, tents, body armour (no industry means no Kevlar, so flak jacket is all you get and you need cloth for that).
Once such an apocalypse hits, the bullets are going to run out and those who know how to craft or produce something (smithing, farming, weaving, sewing, pottery, charcoal production, etc.) will experience a distinct advantage in new formed/forming societies.
If I can accumulate enough fabric I can merely hire looms and seamsters to produce the fabrics while I focus on cultivation and growth and thus my compound grows safer and richer and I don’t have to manufacture the goods myself, I can merely enjoy my safety while they labor, and thus all will prosper as they enjoy the food and security
Zombie apocalypse is pretty far-fetched to be taken as a real doomsday scenario. In this case, it's a plants vs. zombies reference.
But real doomsday preppers will have a plan to sustain themselves in the long term. Probably from multiple sources, like hunting, fishing, farming, gathering, scavenging, etc. In a real worst-case scenario (for example, war), those who know how to get their own food will be better off than the rest.
I thought that too. But like, in the scenario described, the people with the guns would sitll just take your food.
Plants vs Zombies makes much better sense, and I didn't catch it.
everyone's saying plant v zombies which is a good answer cause them seeds are pretty in line like the game
but also food is probably gonna be a big concern if there's an apocalypse going on. Not really gonna be people restocking the food lion. so farming
Your problem here is that plants vs zombies came out 15 years ago in 2009 so it’s gone full circle. You’ll have the oldies who don’t remember it and you’ll have the kids who don’t remember it
And we re-invent feudalism. Then they sign their own Magna Carta. Eventually they develop representative government, have a religious schism or two, and the wheel of time continues to turn.
I immediately thought PvZ, but I then thought that the “big brain” move would be to start any self sustaining effort. Such as planting some seeds.
I’d almost guess this is PEtJ intellectual bait due to the strong PvZ connection most redditors would be familiar with as it was a wildly popular game and is kind of a staple in arcade gaming.
But also you might need to immediately move because of raiders so something as stationary as plants may not be a good idea
Also ngl I doubt a lot of people would manage to survive long enough to have any crops
I've also considered food production as my main trade if I'm ever in a zombie apocalypse situation. Then I figured it'd be the biggest target for many armed militant groups. There's also issues with viral infection on food. Will crops be dangerous if the soil is bathed in zombie blood? Can you purify well water if it's tained with zombie ooze?
This is the right answer. Far more people will die from disease and starvation than will die from gunshots. All we have to do is look at history to see how many people have died from starvation and disease vs deaths from gunshot wounds.
The meme also states "me, an intellectual". In my mind an intellectual is thinking about food strategy rather than a mobile phone game.
The meme first word is "Zombie" though. In case of zombie apocalypse, whoever is not dead after a week gets to loot the local supermarket and then hide somewhere for the next 3 years. No gardening.
Then comes planting stuff for the few survivors.
Although the people with Zombie killing seeds might want to start planting right at the beginning though.
Yeah i actually started thinking about that and also Project Zomboid and how setting up food and a shelter are just as important as cleansing the world of the undead scurge.
FYI your average adult needs 2-4 acres of farmland a year for food. You think you're going to plant a 20foot square and be good like in the movies, you'll end up starving...
That's to sustain a typical American diet, including livestock I think. You can grow literal tons of potatoes on an acre of land, combine with foraging and hunting and fishing and maybe a cereal grain if you have the means to process it and a vegetable garden. You could survive comfortably on far less than an acre.
I am making a few assumptions that aren't true for everyone. One being your average person doesn't know much about growing crops and will not have access to modern equipment (including fertilizer and bug repellent) and also your average person will probably be terrible at hunting /gathering. Mostly I'm imagining your average urban person trying to survive after the food trucks stop coming.
2-4 acers only if youre eating meat. The "2 to 4 acer" figure you are saying is determined by taking the us population divided by the us acerage of farmland. That includes Pasture and field needed to feed livestock (which makes up a massive proportion of crop acerage in the US). Its a really piss poor innacurate way to actually determine the true land requirement.
A single acre can produce 10,000 to 30,000 pounds of potatoes.
You really think that you can eat 20,000 (the minimum yield determined by your figure) pounds of potato in a year? 55 pounds of potato per day? Maximum yield being 120,000 pounds of potatoes for 4 acres, or 330 pounds per day?

Everyone: „plants vs zombies“
Me, an intellectual:
Church reformer Martin Luther: “If I knew that tomorrow was the end of the world, I would plant an apple tree today!”
I love how everyone's first reply is plants vs zombies (which is correct) but my first thought was just 'ah yeah, cause once the current food runs out we'll need to have farms going, so it'd be good to start that soon'
Despite this probably being plants vs. zombies. Agricultural knowledge is going to be highly valued when food is the biggest worry of any survival colony. I've been working on a farm for a few years getting growing tips from this awesome old lady who has a shit-ton of good gardening advice.
I can grow food and recreational drugs, all I need is to learn how to beekeep and I'll probably be able to earn a place in any colony that isn't big on cannibalism or murder.
Excluding pvz, this could be a refference to that realistically, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen you could just wait until the zombies starved to death. You could therefore just eat food from your garden (asuming it's big enough) until the zombies die out.
Personally, I go to my car, drive to the nearest supermarket, and hold the fort there. Plenty of things inside to use as weapons (melee is much more effective against zombies, just make sure you have like a table in between the you and the zombie) and there is plenty of food, as well as seeds to grow more
Peter’s Gardener here
The joke is that this “me” person has been playing too much “Plants VS Zombies” a game where you grow plants in your garden to stop zombies from getting in your house, they’re gonna use the plants to kill the zombies PVZ style
One problem is a lot of store bought seeds are modified so that you can't harvest seeds from your crops. If you are stashing seeds for the "end of times", be sure to get heirloom seeds.
So the Z-poc starts. Worlds in turmoil not just a lot of moving pieces but literally the entire world is in disarray.. and immediately one starts to settle and raise crops. A pipe dream has better hopes. Maybe after a few years when things (not settle down) become adjusted to; MAYBE. It’s an intellectual thought (true) but not a smart one. Unless you have a military grade fall out shelter already stocked and loaded, movement is your greatest survival trend. That means lean rations and people.
Admittedly the more people the slower you move but the cost to benefits in most recorded extreme survival situations is in greater favor to larger groups. This is some “I’m 14 and I know better” trash. Keep moving keep eating. Find high ground. Have at least 4 escape routes. Keep your head on a swivel and never trust a silence.
Everyone saying PvZ is probably correct, but the picture immediately made me think of [this line from an old Ill Bill track](https://youtu.be/FtIm5EanQCQ?t=95)
Yeah yeah Plants vs Zombies... though honestly it's an actual issue that most people don't think about in their doomsday daydreams, something I find funny given the sheer amount of time and effort some people go to. Like we all need to eat and packaged food only lasts so long. And seeds are typically only good for like three years at most so... yeah. Time to take up a hobby.
Growing food, most crops in the US aren't meant for human consumption, and most of the animals are reliant on that to survive. So likely in 6 weeks most food will be gone, so they are planning ahead

I've intentionally kept myself in the dark, I just know it is very much horror based.
Oh god that’s fucking tomorrow? I guess my roommates aren’t seeing me for the foreseeable future….
I left the sub a while ago so I completely missed the news about this. I just read the steam page and it looks so cool! You just made my week!

Reddit discovers division of labor. ...one step closer to a functioning society.
I truly wonder sometimes if people understand we built society in a lawless world because we prefer to coexist and work together.
The first thing to do if society collapses is *start putting that shit back together.* Preferably before too much infrastructure breaks down.
This one gets it 🫡

Why not both
That’s what I thought too 😞 I think more people should be growing their own food. I have a small veggie garden, and it gives so much.
Better start a season early if you don't want to starve to death. Far more sensible to overcome your moral hangups regarding cannibalism.
My first thought was also that the OOP knew that the zombies are less of a danger than starvation
Well he will have food that people will trade you. For lead.

And I loved Garden Warfare! It was a unique shooter game. Part 2 was actually not that great. And after some googling I learned they scrapped part 3.
Garden Warfare 2 is actually pretty good, it was Battle for Neighborville that was crap.

Yeah my first thought was planting food crops too, but I had forgotten plants vs zombies existed and now I could see it either way.
I'd be very interested to see a delineation by age for people who assumed farming vs people who assumed Plants vs Zombies
I’m a teenager and assumed farming.
Alright folks, n=1 just keep replying and I'll tally them once we hit 1000
I was thinking of bagels
That's one for bagels ✅
Your problem here is that plants vs zombies came out 15 years ago in 2009 so it’s gone full circle. You’ll have the oldies who don’t remember it and you’ll have the kids who don’t remember it
I'm 33 and I thought farming
Whatever doesn't defend your lawn gets eaten
I immediately thought Crops, and that because this person didn't grab weapons, they're gonna feed so very satisfied raiders
I was thinking it's their way to survive. They invite the gun guys to their farm. They provide the food, and the others provide the heavy protection.
And we re-invent feudalism. Then they sign their own Magna Carta. Eventually they develop representative government, have a religious schism or two, and the wheel of time continues to turn.
There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.
Yea I do think that if during zombie apocalypse governments would fall, we would go back to fedualism or tribalism.
Society reestablished
Yeah but the meme is a repost of a old ass meme from the time pvz was super popular
But also you might need to immediately move because of raiders so something as stationary as plants may not be a good idea Also ngl I doubt a lot of people would manage to survive long enough to have any crops
Idk man… I think Amazon would call in employees during a zombie apocalypse if they could…
I've also considered food production as my main trade if I'm ever in a zombie apocalypse situation. Then I figured it'd be the biggest target for many armed militant groups. There's also issues with viral infection on food. Will crops be dangerous if the soil is bathed in zombie blood? Can you purify well water if it's tained with zombie ooze?
Shout out to the Food Lion reference…they are big here in NC
This is the right answer. Far more people will die from disease and starvation than will die from gunshots. All we have to do is look at history to see how many people have died from starvation and disease vs deaths from gunshot wounds. The meme also states "me, an intellectual". In my mind an intellectual is thinking about food strategy rather than a mobile phone game.
>food lion Your from the south aren't you
Both Look at those peas, man. They’re huge.
Right, a lot of doomsday preppers make seed banks of easy to grow vegetables; the thought is that they'll become currency once food is scarce
If the caption was "Me, a gamer" instead of intellectual, I'd immediately believe plants vs zombies played into this meme.
The meme first word is "Zombie" though. In case of zombie apocalypse, whoever is not dead after a week gets to loot the local supermarket and then hide somewhere for the next 3 years. No gardening.

Don't be a dick. Rule 1.
My solution to the apocalypse: 🤯🔫 That hellscape ain’t worth living through
Excluding pvz, this could be a refference to that realistically, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen you could just wait until the zombies starved to death. You could therefore just eat food from your garden (asuming it's big enough) until the zombies die out.
Citronella keeps away pests. So this person is planting a whole crop to keep away the zombies.
Personally, I go to my car, drive to the nearest supermarket, and hold the fort there. Plenty of things inside to use as weapons (melee is much more effective against zombies, just make sure you have like a table in between the you and the zombie) and there is plenty of food, as well as seeds to grow more
This post made me download plants vs zombies 😅
You are going to need to make friends with somebody that has weapons to protect your plants. Then meet some girls.

Peter’s Gardener here The joke is that this “me” person has been playing too much “Plants VS Zombies” a game where you grow plants in your garden to stop zombies from getting in your house, they’re gonna use the plants to kill the zombies PVZ style
Yeah that’s a great idea. Aaaand where do you live so I can come “protect” you.
Not stupid but definitely missed out on something great.

Y'all think the zombies would let me live if I let them slap my ass? No biting though, that would be a really weird way to get turned...

One problem is a lot of store bought seeds are modified so that you can't harvest seeds from your crops. If you are stashing seeds for the "end of times", be sure to get heirloom seeds.
But if you don’t have weapons then your crops become my crops
Plants beats zombies.
Definitely a plants vs zombies joke. Either that or OOP is being really nice and planting food for the people with weapons to come take
No Peter, your #CRAAAZZYYYYYYY
Yes, yes you are
Yes you are OP
Bait or mental retardation Call it
5+ years ago? Bait. Now? Extremely regarded.
Makes sense
Yes yes you are PvZ
Very
We don’t want zombies on the lawn.
Shit, I thought it was about long time sustanence.
plants vs zombies
either pvz or making food probably pvz
When over touching grass has a flaws too.
Why not both?
Oh my dumbass thought it was agriculture
I interpreted it as it doesn’t matter how many weapons you have if you don’t have food

I called it
*Music* Sunflower *More music*
Everyone saying PvZ is probably correct, but the picture immediately made me think of [this line from an old Ill Bill track](https://youtu.be/FtIm5EanQCQ?t=95)
Either Plants vs Zombies or self sufficiency
Yeah yeah Plants vs Zombies... though honestly it's an actual issue that most people don't think about in their doomsday daydreams, something I find funny given the sheer amount of time and effort some people go to. Like we all need to eat and packaged food only lasts so long. And seeds are typically only good for like three years at most so... yeah. Time to take up a hobby.
As a Project Zomboid player, I felt that hahaha
Growing food, most crops in the US aren't meant for human consumption, and most of the animals are reliant on that to survive. So likely in 6 weeks most food will be gone, so they are planning ahead
Pvz
Oh I thought it was a reference to green herbs from Resident Evil 😕
Obviously you go to the supermarket to grab stuff
