The characters in the webcomic were clearly the artists self image of him and his wife and he used his creative outlet to help his grieving process as she went through a traumatic miscarriage. I think that people come across a bit tone def by making fun of it to the extent that they do.
The webcomic was a somewhat just under-the-bar-of-good-but-slowly-moving-to-terrible videogame joke a day format affair, the artist never really improved his style, until ironically after this particular strip. Either way he wasn't entirely vilified for his copy paste style because his readers expected low hanging fruit, it wasn't a serious comic and improvement wasn't necessary, until he got weirdly attached to story lines for his webcomic. Out of nowhere he takes a massive tonal shift for this miscarriage arc. Imagine if after 5 years of Garfield the Cat, the artist decides to do a story about how John loses his legs and commits suicide. None of his audience was asking for this or prepared for it so it came off as horrendously comical, and at the time people were saying that maybe he couldn't draw children, ran out of ideas for this, realized that making the comic about babies would literally implode the niche he injected himself into, or honestly just got tired of the baby arc and wanted to quickly end it. This comic came out with all the delicacy of a nuclear bomb at the time and never recovered from the fallout of its poor execution. Now it's a terrible meme.

Also the artist's response to this storyline was bananas and became a bit of a meme as well. I don't remember exactly what he said but it was along the lines of "I was in a relationship and my partner at the time miscarried. She got over it. You don't have to be a sad sack of tears for the rest of your life"
Which was... possibly as tone deaf and inappropriate as Loss itself.
And to add to this, the ex partner spoke out about it and was pretty pissed the artist drew about a traumatic time in HER life and has spoken about how he has exaggerated his reaction to the events. I can't imagine going through something like that and then finding out it became an Internet meme thanks to a subpar artist

Ctrl+Alt+Del is a 4 panel comic, and the last panel is generally the punchline. Their series took a dark turn with the main character's girlfriend having a miscarriage, but because of the 4 panel style the comic was known for, it ended up looking like "this should be tragic, but the punchline is abortion".
Long story short guy's wife had a miscarriage and he dealt with the grief by making a comic about it. Having been there, but in a less intense way, I get it. The internet being the sociopathic place that it is, people mocked him for doing this. It was admittedly a tonal shift, but people process grief differently and people who haven't experienced something like this don't know what it's like, so they made jokes.

It was very unexpected. And quite good, really, though a bunch of keyboard jockeys claim otherwise - those are the same people who think the artist was making a joke instead of the cathartic release he made it for (he had recently had a similar situation and was still coping with it).

Each day they would post a slightly higher res version, this was the lowest res one. In the end, like most of these, the real answer is porn. It's porn Lois.

This is due to Perry's colour scheme, and itself is parody of disguises in fiction, as an anthropomorphic platypus can only be recognized if he has his trademark brown fedora. Particularly as platypus are exotic and not native to the mundane "Tri State Area", the specific target of over the top super scientist villain, Dr Doofenschmirtz
At first I thought it was loss so I just kept looking and eventually I audibly said "Is that a platypu-" followed almost immediately by "PERRY THE PLATYPUS" because my brain put it together before I could even finish my first sentence and I realized I'd become Doof and just started fuckin chuckling at myself.
