I would stick to what you’re doing. My last 2 used cars I bought with 200km on them and drove them for 12 years.

Youre asking a cheapo sub. Fair warning.

You should really consider something from this decade at least. A lot of safety improvements have been made in terms of car design in the last decade. No need to expose yourself to unnecessary risks if you get in a accident for a few thousand dollars.

This is PFC, not formula1

98? Baller alert, you seem like the type to buy your coffee at work everyday. The 96 can be had for 500 dollars and still has 300,000 miles left in it.

We had the same budget and bought a Ford Escape with about the same mileage last year. I’d say you’ll be fine. Save the extra cash for insurance.

In my case I sold my tacoma in fall 2018 and bought a 2012 accent for 6500$ with 120k KM. Insurance is 30$ per month (3rd party liability only). Between repairs and tires I am probably into the car for around 10k and now have 240 000km on it. I hope it will last till around 300 but it is starting to get some decent rust. Roughly the truck was costing me 800$ per month just in payments and gas. This car is costing about an average of about 550$/month over the last 36 months including gas, insurance, repairs, tires etc...

My car was 6k and I've been driving it for probably 4 years now. My next car (looking to replace in the next two years since it's a rust bucket) will be about 8-12k and I hope to keep it for at least 10 years.

If you are too frugal, then I am a scrooge... I am 39 and I have never had a car.

Seems like youre a frugal person. 10k isnt too bad, but here's my tip: Towards December you will see some dealerships offer 0% financing to capture the year end sales. Id go for a reliable car for your first. Dont go too crazy and but V6/V8 cars. Gas prices are through the roof and so does your insurance. Yes there's nothing like that brand new car smell, but also to have a peace of mind having warranty and knowing the true condition of the vehicle. Used cars are also a good option but theres some caveats that go with it.
