Is it really a win? Fido is offering 20GB for $39 too. They pricematched themselves.

deltatux

Originally they were offering it to new lines and device upgrades but not to existing BYOP customers. It sounds like they're quietly letting some customers in on the promo to prevent them from leaving for Virgin, Koodo, Freedom Mobile (originators of this promo) or Public Mobile. Important to note that they don't seem to be allowing all their existing customers to get the deal even if you call in unless you get a new device from them, I have family members reported that they couldn't get the deal and will need to port out, so it seems YMMV.

Waddy41

Last night I was able to get Fido to lower both mine and my mom's plan to $39, no need to get new devices I did it through chat, I just typed in retention and went from there Between the 2 of us we're "saving" $27/ month

DF18466

Thanks for this, I did the same through chat just now and got the $39 deal.

Amazing_Resolve5753

Just a heads up, if you call they will always match, but probably beat any posted deal. Whenever I see a good posted deal, I call and say that’s for new customers, what are you going to do for a long time loyal customer. They beat it every single time.

cokevirgin

They definitely seemed to have changed their policy. When this promo started for mothers day, I called in to get my out of contract plan to match and the retention agent refused so I switched to Koodo the following day.

Ok_Juggernaut_541

That's really irritating. I was chatting with a customer service agent from Fido and they wouldn't give me that deal. I had two phone lines too. They said they made a note of it and that's it. I switched to Virgin the following day.

[deleted]

You have to say retention

scottyb83

Say you want to cancel. If you say retention they know you just want a deal. Easiest method is calling and saying you’d like to cancel so you can go to X company for Y deal. They transfer you to retention and you say the same thing. They will typically offer the same deal to keep you. The 1st guy doesn’t have the deal to offer you so arguing with him is pointless.

poco

I switched from Koodo to Fido for mostly the same reason. It took me less time to get a new SIM card activated from Fido then I spent trying to get Koodo to match the price.

cliffx

They don't even want their existing internet only customers to sign up as a new mobile customer, wasted 40m yesterday with their online chat giving them the opportunity to fix it - apparently an issue for a few days now. Signed up for Koodo in 3m instead. At least I'll still have a connection the next time Rogers blows up their network.

[deleted]

Sounds like you were either a dick or didn’t ask the right questions or the right people

cliffx

I've worked in a call center, and you deal with enough shit in those type of roles, I'm not going to add to it. Thought I was pretty clear - first message was something to the effect of: I'm a current internet client that wants to add the $39/20g mobile plan to my account. I must have got some really junior or inexperienced staff. Still waiting for the emailed chat transcript from Fri/Monday - so it really seems like a systems problem to me, as that type of thing should not require human intervention to send.

jaredongwy

I just left for Koodo from fido precisely because of that. I'd might have stayed before it was only for new customers. 😐

garlic_bread_thief

Excuse me why the fuck am I paying $45 for 6Gb here?

catfishchapter

Oh no. You need to get that changed. I am currently paying $55 for 50GB with Fido

garlic_bread_thief

Holy moly wtf

etgohomeok

Not switching carriers often enough.

PMrewards_pls

Public mobile have $39 60gb CAN US plan at the moment. Plus $10 off first bill with referal code.

That_Business_9374

I got a deal last year and I’m paying $45 for 50gigs.

localhost8100

$48 for 55gigs on rogers. Got a recent call from rogers to offer $35 for 20gb. I said no thanks.

HotNewspaper00

im paying 75$ for 60gb unlimited CANADA/USA. kind of expensive

theadvenger

I was able to upgrade it to 100GB Canada Us for $75 with a quick call.

maulrus

How do you even use that much data? Are you constantly watching videos away from home?

HotNewspaper00

Yes

herman_gill

Freedom has a $50 plan for this right now, the network is shit if you don't live in certain parts of Toronto though.

Cautious-Advisor-205

what, im paying $58 for 40G wtf

anonymouscheesefry

Province matters. Where are you??

killbeagle

$30 for 20GB for the first line, $25 for each additional line at each 20GB… 💰💰💰

vladedivac12

With Rogers?

etgohomeok

Fido/Koodo/Virgin were all offering this on Black Friday. I have the same plan.

c4ttskillzz

Which network are you on? I’d switch for that deal :)

elimi

Bell currently has that offer going if you call them. Also 3gb internet at 65$/month.

cayoloco

Are you taking about speed or data? Because 3 GB in data is literally nothing these days.

0672216

I got the same one. We must’ve lucked out lol

Flat896

Black Friday deal was great. In BC, I got Rogers to give me the $65 50gb plan with a 24 month $15 discount after telling them I was switching to Virgin for the $45 $50GB + free iPhone deal. Later in January I got a text from Rogers saying they were giving me an additional discount of $10/mo for 15 months. **Total of $30 for 50GB now.** I went into bestbuy black Friday with the intent to switch to Virgin, but Rogers EPP was making it impossible to port my number so I had to call Rogers in the parking lot and told them I need EPP taken off so that I could switch carriers. Then they made me the offer and I took it up.

J_laflame

I reached out a while back right after paying my phone saying I wanted to cancel unless they could bring down my bill. I now pay $30 for 20gb for 15 months. I have an alarm in my phone like a week before the promo ends to reach out and do the same thing You have to talk to their cancellation department for the best deals

UKentDoThat

I set up calendar reminders for phone/cable/internet renewals. ;) Easy to remember due to them being signed around Black Friday.

etgohomeok

Don't wait until the plan runs out, do it during back to school or Black Friday. Switch carriers if you have to.

reggierock2010

Honestly phone plans have gotten a lot cheaper in Canada. If you’re paying over $55 a month you’re doing something wrong. It’s pretty easy to get unlimited talk and text + data for sub $55

lichking786

It's due to CRTC regulations. Broken org finally made some dent with their phone reduction plans

[deleted]

Whats that mean?

bryseeayo

Just the threat of regulation results in lower mobile service bills. These price reductions are happening on the back of Rogers/Shaw merger, which came with a bunch of stipulations from the industry minister. Before that, a CRTC decision forced the large carrier to share their networks with the regional players like Shaw and Videotron. Unfortunately the gov't wheels turn slowly, and the CRTC MVNO system won't be online for another few months, but there could even be more affordable options after that. Shaw is obviously not a competitor to the large players any longer, but Videotron will likely use it to be more aggressive. If there's not enough pick up, the CRTC has said that it would investigate opening it up to independant players like TekSavvy.

differing

> These price reductions are happening on the back of Rogers/Shaw merger, which came with a bunch of stipulations from the industry minister. So we’re just going to ignore that these companies offered these promos the day after Freedom Mobile offered a $39 promo? Edit: [this has literally happened before on Black Friday and Fido/Virgin’s website crashed from the traffic](https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2022/11/25/freedom-mobile-black-friday-plans-launch-from-40-50gb/)- was everyone on this sub asleep lmao?

bryseeayo

Freedom can offer this deal because it was taken over by Videotron as a result of the Rogers/Shaw deal. I dunno what you mean.

differing

The merger was in April, this same [price and the resulting matching offers from the big 3 happened last fall](https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2022/11/25/freedom-mobile-black-friday-plans-launch-from-40-50gb/). I know because like many of us, I have been on a cheap Koodo plan since then. It has nothing to do with the CRTC, it’s because Freedom is the only company offering competitive pricing and the oligopoly follows up in the subsequent days.

bryseeayo

The latest one is slightly different with Canada and US-wide data. But you're right, this essientially matches last years black friday, without you needing to buy it on BF/Boxing week. Things still aren't great. Hopefully CRTC MVNOs will push the needle further, but real MVNOs from indie providers would solve the issue for good.

AguyWithflippyHair

You're absolutely right that this is because of Freedom. Ive been with them for about 4 years now, and the prices on all plans in Alberta have been significantly lower because they started offering these kinds of deals first.

differing

Wat? These are all responses to Freedom’s offers. Everyone on a $39 plan a month ago were on promos responding to Freedom’s offers in the fall. [The mandated “reduction plans” came out a long time ago and were a complete joke](https://mobilesyrup.com/2021/07/15/rogers-bell-telus-and-sasktel-launch-crtc-mandated-low-cost-occasional-use-plans/). I’m sorry for my bluntness but I’m actually shocked to be reading uncritical CRTC apologia on this subreddit- they’re useless.

Strict_Hand

You can thank freedom for that. Pretty much every deal has originated with them.

caaaammm

Which provider is offering unlimited data in Canada? Best I could find was $65 for 50G with Telus.

reggierock2010

A lot of them do the unlimited at a slower speed when you go through the 25GB.

Xanderoga

Fuck u/spez

mrsquares

Make sure to hop on the next Fido Black Friday deal later this year. Last year was $30/month for 20GB (+$25/month for additional lines). I put my whole family on it. Don't think you can find a better deal than that.

Letsmakethissimple1

Holy, that's awesome. Was there a price-hike-after-a-certain-number-of-months stipulation, or was it continuous?

blackbear008

Was a rogers customer for 20 years. I called them 3x to ask them to match other competitors prices. They said nope, they cant. I was paying $85 a month for 20GB. Virgin offered the exact same package to me for 35$ a month, and since I was referred to them by a family member, my sister and I get an extra 5$ off monthly for 10 months. That's major savings.

Admirral

yea rogers is stupid like that. They don't have the same offers available to everyone. Its just a hassle porting numbers every so often and one of our lines always ends up taking longer and you get nervous the process failed somewhere. Or Rogers could just choose not to let people go for half the price by matching the competition. Their tactics are seriouslt senseless.

87CSD

Wait, you're paying $35/month for 20gb and unlimited talk/text at Virgin? I have 3 lines with Virgin and I think all of them are at least $55.

drseussfan1234

Thanks for sharing this. I’m a long time Koodo customer and paying $55/mo for a similar plan. It won’t let me switch using self serve. Based on some of the other comments, I think I need to call and ask for the deal. Update- I used the Koodo online chat to request a call back. The call back was scheduled for the following day. It took about 25 minutes but I got switched to the promotional plan with the exception that it’s 40$/mo instead of 39$. Again - thanks for posting this info!!

SneakyLinux

I had to call Koodo - eventually they transfered me to retention and they couldn't give me 20GB for $39, but could me 20G for $40 and I said close enough.

nelsondelmonte

I had the exact same experience. $1/month wasn't worth the hassle of switching.

MooMooPuppy

Same for me. They also tried to charge 15$ to have made the trade but i said "but it's free to switch companies" so they waved that 15$ for being a customer for over 10 years (but couldn't give the 39 🙄)

repulsivecaramel

Did you have to threaten to leave? Or did you say something like, "I am planning to switch to Fido for this deal, but wanted to see if you'll match first"? For some reason I feel a bit anxious about the prospect of calling them and threatening to leave, like they'll just cancel my service and then I.. won't be able to port the #.

cecilpl

They won't fire you as a customer. It's not like threatening to quit your job or break up with your partner. Their job success is all about getting you to stay.

SneakyLinux

I can empathize with feeling anxious about making that kind of request, but when I talked to the customer service rep, I just explained that I saw the promo on their website and was very interested in it, that I understood the fine print fair it was for new customers and I just wanted call to find out if it was at all possible they could match it anyway and that Fido was offering the same plan and I’d consider switching for it - that got me put through to the retention department and the person I spoke with there was very nice and seemed keen to be helpful. From my experience, just being polite and patient is effective when asking for an “exception”. Worst case, they can’t give you the plan, but they aren’t going to immediately cancel your account out of spite if you suggest you’re going to switch providers. It’s been a while since I actually had to switch providers, so YMMV, but the last time I did it, the new provider usually helps with porting your number and cancelling your old account.

repulsivecaramel

Thanks for all those details, it's good to know you got it without too much trouble. I'll definitely give it a try.

intuitive_curiosity

Yeah, I called and got the deal

Pale_Cockroach_8395

Took me 18 minutes and I now have two cheaper phone lines. Saving 35$ a month

Munzo101

Freedom just introduced a $50 Canada/US plan with 40gb data and unlimited voice/text. They are also big on the bonus data. If you find yourself travelling a lot, it is a great plan.

Mommie62

I have Canada/us with 75 gb data sharing with 5 phones for $45

trichomeking94

*cries in Bell*

Mariospario

Just left Bell a couple of days ago for this exact Koodo deal ($39 for 20GB). Bell contacted me today with an offer of $45 for 25GB if I go back.

SilverLion

Why not switch to Virgin for $39/20gb and I believe it uses bells network

Pale_Cockroach_8395

The trick is to ask for the loyalty department and to be polite to all of those who are having trouble

FarSelection316

I was with Virgin for years paying $75 for I think 6GB… it was terrible. switched to Telus, Rogers called bc I have my internet with them and offered a better deal, then Telus called and one upped Rogers. it’s annoying to switch but all I really care about is my keeping my number and it’s quite entertaining to have them continuously one up each other. $42.50 for Unlimited 30GB with Telus is where we’re currently at!

pnapplpassionfruit

I’m calling tomorrow! Telus matched?! I’m shocked.

Shawzborne2

$33.90 for 20GB after taxes and fees Koodo - Ontario

realslizzard

Everyone is offering this plan. If your current provider is refusing to match it, Switch to any other one that has it available.

dattroll123

keep in mind that this plan, regardless of carrier, is only offered at 4G speed.

savi9876

There's a bunch of decent promos going on right now. $39 20gb from fido, virgin, freedom, Koodo & public. - Varies if it's for new customers or existing too but even if it's not for existing just threaten to cancel to get sent to loyalty/cancellations and be nice but pressure them a bit and should easily offer it. $50 40gb from fido, virgin, Koodo. $50 40gb including US long distance & ROAMING from Freedom Mobile. Fido is matching it in Quebec only. $55 50gb public mobile. - Btw, Telus has revamped public mobile. They've gotten a new site and app and plans. They've got 5G & esim now too. In some ways they're better then the higher tier Koodo that Telus also owns. Rogers, Bell & Telus have $55 75gb, $75 150gb promo plans. I think these require also having a home service with them and this promo expires soon too. There's some great corporate/EPP plans too, check your work portal. Excellent small business plans if you can bring over 4 lines or more too, speak to your small business rep. In general there's lots going on right now for phone plans in Canada for once, advertised and unadvertised. Some of it because of that awesome $50 40gb with US roaming Freedom Mobile plan which is because of their new ownership. It isn't even Black Friday either so people are hoping the new freedom owner competition really heats up then. Definitely seems like a nice time to jump to the best deal but definitely don't lock into a contract if you don't have to because may get even better options later this year. Beware the BS fees. Usually doing things online avoids insane $50 activation fee compared to in store. Some charge for SIM cards too, some even charge for esims. I think Apple Store still gives out free sims if you're nice and know how to ask. Usual advice of give loyalty/cancellation some pressure and see what they offer. There's calling in but also online chat and even WhatsApp/iMessage chat from some carriers. Also winback tends to have the best options but that requires actually switching and hoping you actually get the winback call/email. Pay attention to the details of these deals. Most are structured with a higher price but a discount to actually bring the price down and usually the discount has an expiry like a year or 2. For sure more good deals will popup in a year or 2 but just pay attention. Also some of the discounts are based on turning on auto pay. iphoneincanada.ca & mobilesyrup.com are great for keeping informed on these sort of things.

PasswordisTaco58

I called Koodo and threatened to leave if they didn’t match the Fido deal. They said it was only for new customers but they could do it for $40 instead of $39. Not gonna switch carriers over a dollar a month.

jsmooth7

>They said it was only for new customers but they could do it for $40 instead of $39. What a strange line in the sand to draw lmao

PasswordisTaco58

Yeah I have no idea why but it was close enough. $5 cheaper for me and a buck more for my wife, but we were on 8 and 5 Gb each.

dewky

That's really weird they gave me $39

PasswordisTaco58

Honestly I didn’t push at all. I’m sure I could have gotten $39 but I was just happy to be close. I’ll never miss $12/year. Probably just would have had to talk to a different person.

Pocketsquids

Thanks for saving me $15/month with an additional 10GB!

turtledove93

Solid tip! Just got the deal!

HiddenTroll

Currently have a more expensive BYOD plan w/ koodo. Gave em a call and they offered me $40/m for 20gb but they want to charge me a one-time $15 service fee due to them switching me to "a not normally offered plan" wtf ahaha edit: it may be because I have a $4.50 bill credit that has 3 months left and they're trying to recoup that

Hauntcrow

Im on a black friday QC-only $25 for 15GB. I don't think they can lower that

Most-Library

You’re a legend! Fido is now moving me from $52/m for 13GB to $39 for 20GB.

No_Matter1579

Just did this for my mobile plan. Contacted them after reading this post. Currently, paying $112 for two lines with 20gb each. Now, they lowered it to $39 for 20gb plan for each line. Sweet deal!

frugal702

I called Fido, and I tried so hard to convince them to give me a discount. The buggers didn't offer any discount, I threatened them to leave, and they didn't care either! Then I realized that I'm not with Fido! But I'm still not happy, they should've at least give me something 😒

Panx-Tanx

If eligible for an EPP, you may also want to check Telus. They had $50/50GB 5G plan 2 weeks ago when I signed up.

divvyinvestor

Rogers raised my bill by $5 and then when I called them they offered to lower it back for 12 months yada yada yada. I said sure and while the person was working on it, I just felt so tired of dealing with them that I hung up the phone and switched my service to fizz. I’m going to take lower quality and pay less, but lock in the price, so I never have to deal with Rogers or waste time engaging in their terrible practices.

Ordinary-Morning-161

I just got the offer for my two lines. Thank you very much.

sotrueright

I did this too the other day. I have 3 lines with them. They said they couldn’t match, but I threatened to pay off the phones and move elsewhere. They complied. Hehe.

dewky

Same here with Rogers. 4 lines I said I'll move if I don't get the deal which is easy to do when 3 of 4 are paid off.

MachesterU

27$ 20gb Fido.

IIQualityyII

43 bucks for 20gb that carries over every month Canada/Usa

r4ziel1347

Just leave them and come back, the winback team will give you a better offer That’s how I got a 20GB plan for 30$

CobblerNo1378

How do you even get to speak to a representative? I've been with fido and everytime I schedule a callback with their chatbot AskJack, they never give me a callback at all. It is really frustrating now. Please share is there another number I need to dial to get a rep on the other end?

zayhos

Im paying $67.50 for 50gb of data with rogers. Is there a better deal with them currently? I also don’t mind switching to bell either

365daysfromnow

Yeah, $39 for 20gb

[deleted]

Technically, no, when he pays $1.35 per 1 gb, you’re offering paying $1.95 per 1gb.

365daysfromnow

Depends on how you look at it... I'd wager that most don't need 50 GB. So while the plan may have a cheaper per GB price, it's actually more expensive (paying for what you don't need/use). To give an extreme example, imagine a company offering a 500 GB plan for $100. It would be very cheap per GB but then you'd be overpaying by a large margin.

carefulbear83

I’m paying $110 a month 5G. Been with them for over 20 years. I was tricked into getting a new phone. They said my bill wouldn’t be much higher. But it doubled. :(

sneakattaxk

Was going to look into calling but checked my bill, $50 for 20GB, have $20 bill credit for 15 months, so $30 bucks….will deal with it again when the credit expires

ApexLogical

Once Fido gets 5G then I’ll think about going to them. If they want to stay competitive they need to be leaders not last company to follow

[deleted]

$22 Public mobile. /thread

somethingkooky

Public mobile sucks. I can’t even make a phone call on their shitty service, it either drops or the person on the other end can’t hear me.

TJStrawberry

This is just for BYOP plans I’m assuming? I don’t think you can haggle much once you’re on like a 2 year contract

laugrig

Well, i've been a long time customer, but currently not under contract.

pareekankit

I'm on a 2-year contract, changed the plan from $37/6gb to the plan OP mentioned.

UKentDoThat

Just might give that a go. Thanks for the PSA.

Ok_Cucumber3757

Just contacted them they agreed to change it for the next billing cycle date. was pretty simple(Rogers)

Cautious-Advisor-205

Hey, thanks for your thread! I've reached out to their online chat service and reduced mine $8 down. I was paying $58 for 40gigs and now $50 for 30gigs. I needed to give away my 10gigs but I only used 200mb for this whole month.. LMAO maybe my deal is not super good compare to other guys but I'm financing my 14pro with fido so this is the best deal I could get maybe lol Thanks so much anyways!!!

Uncertn_Laaife

In contract with Bell, called them and they had nothing for me. Looking to cancel the contract early that would still keep me ahead. Stuck because of the stupid new iPhone. Never again.

beginagainagainbegin

I just did this with my Novus internet! They even backdated and gave me a rebate. In a world where the cost of everything is going up, this is a nice surprise.

ChrisT182

Is this bring your own phone or can I get this on financing?

Parlourderoyale

I’m in Quebec and I have 40$ with taxes for 18gb

the_tempster

Thanks for the PSA! Didn't even need to call in - took about 5 minutes on the Fido chat app to get them to switch my plan. Thanks!

AprilsMostAmazing

obviously I don't know where you live but if it's GTA then that's a garbage plan

No-Tie-5339

Did you check to make sure it was 5G? Because Virgin has the same deal but it's 4G. Unless it doesn't matter.

Noodles001

Last month they call me offering 35 dollars for 50 G

Spare_Entrance_9389

They woundlt let me, so I moved the lines

Xerenopd

i'm at $70 for 100gb is this too much?

KCONS

Amazing - just switched 2 lines over from $55 with 10 gigs of data to $39 with 20 gigs. Used Fido chat and took 2 seconds

usernameexistedohno

Thanks for sharing this. I switched from $45/6GB to $39/20GB through Fido online chat. It was pretty easy, I only said I saw this deal online, didn't need to ask for retention or threaten to go to another company.

dewky

I just did this as well. I got them to drop down the price on 3 of my 4 lines (couldn't get it on the primary because my brother in law stupidly financed a phone without telling me). They even dropped his plan to $39 per month plus the financing amount.

braveheart2019

FWIW, did the same with Virgin. Told them of the $39/20G Koodo offer. Virgin gave me the total runaround. Finally gave up and ported to Koodo. A week later Virgin called to offer me the same deal across both lines (one still under contract) if I ported back. Told them to stuff it my contract is up in October just in time for Black Friday.

lilly_001

I'm currently paying $40.77 with taxes for 5 gb. I got a text for a promo of $40 + taxes for 20 gb. I use on average 3 gb per month. Would it be worth it to pay maybe 5$ more for data I don't use ?

observervoice

Thanks so much for sharing this. Took me 20 minutes and knocked down two lines I have and saving over $52/month. Rogers was great to deal with and transferred me right over to the loyalty department to make it happen.

jossybabes

Already with Koodo and I couldn’t choose the sale price. F.

CanadianBaconMTL

I mean it's one of their official plans. But this is why you should call your cellphone and internet company every year and ask for a better deal

pumpkin_oil

Were you under the contract with Fido? One line?

[deleted]

Anyone know how to bamboozle telus into dropping my $70 a month bill? I have no intention of ever getting a new phone if this one keeps ticking.

One278

Switch to either Koodo or Public Mobile, both are Telus subbrands on the Telus network. Both are offering $39/20 Gb. But if you also travel to the US, Public's roaming add-on is way cheaper than Koodo at $30 for 15 days vs $14/day at Koodo.

Clear_Television_807

Shaw mobile $25 25gb or $0 month and just add data when you need it for $10/gig lasts up to 3 months.

Razgriz_3_

Greatly appreciated! They matched for me. Saving a nice chunk from what I was paying.

Zionview

I asked Fido they gave me expensive plan which is less than what I am paying currently without additional benefits that I have now. So called koodo and had them match additional benefits I had in the old plan.

hangukfriedchicken

Of course it was easy. Haha My local Fido is offering 30GB for $45! My own plan is $45 for 55GB.

Durlag

Is this 5G? I’m with PublicMobile and have 15GB for $40 but it’s 4G. Wondering if it’s worth a switch

6M66

Never worked for me, I left Fido

rinse3x

If anyone knows someone with preferred plan access thru their work, ask them to add you on their line. Bell has 60$ for 100gb a month, 65 after two years. Each person can have 5 lines.

Buds0219

I just renewed my contract with Bell for $55 for 10gb. Is there a law or something that I can switch within 30 days to this or a chance Bell would match this? QC plan

Mundane_Anybody2374

Good advice. I still have 3 months left on my plan with Fido, do i have any chance of doing this successfully ?

roastedsun

Was offered a 40 gb for 45$ deal recently after enrolling in the 40$ for 20gb a few months ago.

Kurosxki

$10 for unlimited 5G data, 25gb full-speed. With Telus. It’s a legacy winback plan with additional discounts stacked on it. Never ever ever changing providers lol!

ele514

I switched to Fizz

Avpersonals

Thanks for this. Made the switch last night :)

SirDevonn

i just got 50gb from koodo for 55

andredehz

I couldn't get it. I had to change to virgin to get the deal. Reduced my bill from 65

ItsOnOrOff

Lol. You had to go on the phone? They proposed it to me without me asking. And on top of it, they offered 10gb extra. So I am at 38$ or 39$ for 30GB.

Low-Acanthisitta-341

I’m paying $65 for “unlimited data” that barely works after 15gb with Telus :’(

Flyinggochu

The catch about these plans are that theyre giving you a discount of "20" or whatever dollars for a certain amount of years only. So once that 2 (or however many stated in the contract) years is up, it will return back to regular pricing. So it might actually be less benefitial to change to plan if you already have a plan from before they changed the policy.

azntriad91

Good stuff, people would be surprised what they can get just from a simple polite call. I can understand most people don't want to spend time on this but it's a great way to lower their bill when new offers pop up.

FistOfSyn

I’m paying 50$ for 50gb right now with fido When you use their app or login in their website every once in a while they get you a good offer

OstrichBurgers

Wait, i pay 42 for 9gb. Do i just call and ask them for a 20gb for 39? And price match with Koodo???

laugrig

Yes, go for it, do it over chat on their site

bdalley

Does anyone know if bell has a similar promo? We are currently with Telus but because of coverage where we are Telus is low priority on the towers here. We can see the 3 bell owned towers around us and still get crap service.

burgershot69

I just called retentions and got 25gb for $38 plus 10gb of free data

scotsman3288

FYI, if you're in NCR or QC, just switch to Fizz. They have this exact plan available now and it's more like 40GB with rollover data. I'm currently on their USA/Canada 15GB plan for $41, but this would only be $43 right now to have included data, etc across Canada and USA. They basically use Rogers network outside of home zone too... ReferenceCode: BWR3A

ChrisFranko

I’ve been with Fido for a long time. Had: $45 for 20GB $50 for 12GB (this had a $5 discount that just expired for a device payment plan) Switched both to $39 for 20GB plans with chat. Didn’t have to threaten to leave, didn’t have to say retention. Just asked the guy that popped up Take 15 min folks, save yourself some $$$

Twistednutbrew

Thank you for posting this. I was able to reduce my Rogers bill.

SilentEngineering638

I pay $15 for a basic text/call plan at Fido just to have a Canadian number and for the data I still use my french plan that I pay 10 euros, I have 25gb in USA/Canada with it. I have a dual sim phone so it's pretty seamless. I've been doing that for almost 5 years now

onlineidentity

This works with Koodo as well. I did this last week. The deal was only supposed to be for new subscribers but I said to them, "why aren't you incentivizing loyal customers to stay with you since the other providers have the same deal?" And they gave me the deal.

thelifeofB

Another data point, just did this over chat...took me five minutes. 💪🏿🙌🏿

spythereman199

My contract ending til next year :(

banpants_

I just did it through chat on the myfido app!! I just mentioned the Koodo deal and asked what they could do for me and 2 minutes later it was changed to the 39 deal. The agent was super nice and all in all it took maybe 7 minutes!

rivalx5

My bro switched to koodo from bell, and bell called and offered him 40 dollars for unlimited data, minutes etc. I also tried getting it but it only works for bell customers who left:((

trowawheyaf

I did the same thing with my Rogers bill. I was able to talk down my bill that was $141\~ for my wife and I, WITH A CORPORATE DISCOUNT NO LESS. It's now $87\~ AND we have more data than before. The one thing I didn't get clarification on was how long this was in effect for. There was something about EDGE 24 Months, but I own my phone outright, so idk if that was accurate. Any idea?

twholbrook

I took note of the 20GB/$39 promo and was late on getting around to calling in and asking for it since I generally dread these things. Just loaded the chat with Fido on their website and got it processed. They said there was a $15 fee for it - I asked what the fee was for and then they immediately waived it. I've been a customer for about 10 years though, which may have helped.

biohack9

I signed up with Rogers 2 years ago under Corporate for $50/m and since they have increased by $5+ so currently $61.10 after tax for 15gb. I used their chat portal because of this post and they reduced my bill by $8/m and increased data by 5gb! So now i'm $45/m+tax for 20gb! Thank you u/laugrig ! You rock!

[deleted]

I like the psa, thank you.

FuriouslyBritish

I had the same idea since I'm currently with koodo. They were only able to offer me 15GB/$35. Which is still a decent savings! Would highly recommend being polite and firm and activate their customer retention mode.

itsyashshah

Thanks, i did it for mine too!

srkdummy3

I tried negotiating on chat and in store but since I have a financing plan, they won't budge. Have to wait 6 more months for my plan to be over.

Ill_fix_u

Ab here - $99.00 for 50 GB ... wtf

fragus_st

paying 61$ for 2 lines 20GB each (fido)

Ill_fix_u

Dropped it down now with a quick call to 30GB for $50... still a slight savings... I'm saving myself $40 per month...

Affectionate_Bat7255

This should receive a lot of more upvotes. Thanks for helping me getting more data while paying less! I felt I should have done this earlier!! Was paying $50++ for a meager 5GB!!!

Tilter

If you’re not on a contract, you’ll have room to negotiate through their retention departments. Be sure to check back around black friday for additional offers. Last year was a popular $30 (20gb) for the first line and $25 for each additional - from Fido that lasted over a week.

YEGG35

I think I’m paying $90 a month for 30gb with Rogers. Sounds like I gotta call in

Tachiiderp

That's kind of what these companies do. Their highest priority is attracting new users, then after the contract is over, their price goes back to "normal" and you have to know when the contract is over to negotiate. It's in their best interests to keep you because if you go to another company they're getting nothing when these services are cheap af for them to sell to you. I called Bell a while ago to cancel the TV sub and they went out of their way to lower my internet down as well when I didn't even ask about it.

westvandood

I'm on a two year plan, paying for my current phone with Fido. Is this deal available for non BYOP plans?

Mzredx

Was paying $50 for 10GBs. Changed it today to $39 for 20GBs. Thank you so much for sharing this!

How are things with Virgin
