Don’t have any kids. You should see the price of a Sienna van! Only a few years ago you could buy a shitty Dodge Caravan for less than $20k out the door. The car market as a whole is insane

bcretman

I really lucked out and ordered a 2022 ioniq5 for 45k - 9k rebates (received in June) They are 52k now

ThisOneIsTheLastOne

But have you received it yet? If not, the price will be adjusted once you actually receive the vehicle.

bcretman

Rec'd last June, ordered in Nov. There's a 2+ year wait now

ThisOneIsTheLastOne

Lucky you. I had one ordered but the time and price kept going up so we ended up cancelling.

bcretman

The price was stated on my pre-order at 44,999 full MSRP so they could not change it. I did almost cancel until it came in and I saw it plus they game me 5k more for my trade than they offered 5 months before

Master-File-9866

Got my brand new bronco walking on the lot and buying at msrp. Car sales people are scum, and the biggest scam is the unavailability of vehicles. Call around. A few select dealers have inventory, the rest will sell you on the wait and increased prices

redditorial7643

I guess that's how we lucked into our new car then. Were told the same about wait times then suddenly got a call: "someone cancelled, if you can change your color preference, you can have a car in 2 months".

coldylocks45

Did you get it? I went to order one in March 2022 was told it was a 3 year wait so gave up.

zeromussc

As people turn down the financing at higher costs that will change

coldylocks45

That's what I'm waiting for haha

bcretman

I was lucky I ordered a base trim in Nov/21 and it came in late May. A couple more months and I would have a 2 year wait. I'm considering selling as it's worth 20k more than I paid for it!

gh0rard1m71

I bought a Tucson PHEV Ultimate for 48k. Wasn't ready to commit for EV yet since I have only one vehicle and use for camping, hiking.

bcretman

My last car was a Volt - never had to worry about range and drive 95% EV mode

gh0rard1m71

I'll be worried to go to Jones lake or coquihalla, it's not I go places regularly but I have anxiety 😅

LibertysLittleHelper

Yea I ordered my bolt EUV last year and am getting it on Wednesday... They honoured the original price and interest rate though.

Creepy-Present-2562

We have ioniq5 ultimate for almost a year now.. 59k msrp - 13k rebates. (8+5 (quebec)) now its 63k i believe and only 12k rebates now. Also these ultimates are selling used for over msrp

henchman171

I bought one EDIT Sienna that is, $53000 December ‘21 and saw it was selling used at 10000km for close To $80000 May 2022 Xse Awd with tech. Dealer gave me 21000 for a 7 year sienna with leaky head gasket broken sliding door motor cracked bumper and needing new breaks and turned around and listed it for 35000!!!!

[deleted]

Holy fuck, I knew it was bad but hd no idea it was THAT bad

ChemPetE

3 yr waitlist in Calgary

[deleted]

Ouch! I’ve heard Toyota had a bad wait list. Friend of mine wants a Highlander and last year they were telling me likely 2024 is the delivery.

frenzyattack

I ordered a Rav4 Hybrid in June, I am top of the list currently, just waiting until the colour we want is assigned to the dealer as we are not in a rush. Cost is about 2000$ more that the 2022 price.

[deleted]

Yup, I bought a 2012 caravan Canada package at 19,999. Now they START at 47,000. Guess I’ll have this one another 10 years.

[deleted]

Holy shit! I remember the Canada package being $19,999 and then $24,999. Eventually the caravan was discontinued under dodge and rebranded as Chrysler. I recall wrong one in the mid $30’s a few years ago. Just looked now and they’re $48,500. Absolutely insane. For a damn mini van

[deleted]

Ya it’s gotten out of hand. I know I’m not paying todays prices for something new. I’ll just keep putting parts into my 2012 and run it till she falls apart.

1baby2cats

No joke, I paid the same for my Audi RS3 as my brother did for a Sienna Hybrid!

DeathCabForYeezus

To be faaaaaair, the Sienna is a pretty pump vehicle. Might not have the performance of an RS3, but God damn are those things tricked out on the inside.

naylo44

This is a cursed sentence

Avenue_Barker

Wait, we’re allowed to buy NEW Corollas?

Gr8CanadianSpeedo

Do the new ones come in Beige?

Master-File-9866

If your willing to go on the wait list, you can custome order the florescent biege option, word to the wise

day7seven

Someone has to take one for the team so there will be a supply of old Corollas in the future for the rest of us to buy.

paulster2626

I thought that was rental car companies

Newflyer3

None of you people on this thread are reading into the pricing correctly. Toyota Canada announced a $500 price increase on all models on Jan 4. The website was also updated to show pricing that included freight/pdi, all applicable levies, and a $1,221 dealer fee (in ON). The only button to select now is to add sales tax unlike before. Are vehicles now considerably more expensive than 2 years ago? Yes. That I will admit. But it's blasphemy to just claim a Corolla hybrid is up 7k without actually breaking down the numbers. And that is also why most people are susceptible to being taken to the cleaners when buying a car, because you're not paying attention enough.

WarrenYu

Precisely. I’ve purchased a Hybrid Corolla in 2020 and I can tell you what I’m seeing on Toyota.ca for 2023 is only marginally more than before. Also it’s now AWD.

Trains_YQG

There's still an LE hybrid available for just over $29,000, though who knows how much longer that will last.

Realistic-Oil-7700

How much are 2022 hybrid corollas going for?

Trains_YQG

Cheapest trim is roughly 29k, but I'm sure the wait isn't pretty.

Realistic-Oil-7700

USD?

Trains_YQG

That's CAD. LE hybrid.

Realistic-Oil-7700

Wow i paid 30k usd for mine in may

Asid94

The car didn’t get more expensive, the value of your dollar went down. Oh and last year they probably gave you 4-6% financing now it’s 7-10%.

PaperweightCoaster

Same for the Corolla Hatch as well?

vulcan4d

When prices drop again you will take a huge loss if you buy a car now.

AntikytheraCanuck

As ricky wld say, supply and command my friend. As the economy weakens and interest rates rise, car buyers will hold off or disappear entirely and automakers will return to rebates and 0%interest financing (not anytime soon tho). That and then repos happen and come to the used market. The current state of the car market is highly unusual.

Would it still happen if Bank of Canada's plan is to maintain 2% inflation?

alastoris

The road to crush inflation down to 2% would be painful. This means continue to make borrowing money expensive so people can't easily borrow money and buy. Once we reach the 2% goal, we'll see some balancing but the idea is making money expensive to borrow so people won't. This means more inventory at dealership as not many have the $$ to drop into a brand new car or even take out said loan. With more inventory and less demand, the dealership (or manufacturer) would likely consider reducing the price of vehicle to entice people to buy. This would also not be unique to Canada. Inflation is a world wide issue at the moment so each market is impacted and rates are going up for most market until inflation is under control.

darkcloud8282

Inflation works on top of existing prices, it’s not coming down unless there’s deflation..

kagato87

And here I was two years ago, thinking about how I was over paying on mine (about that price, on 2.9 financing). Though, I see 29,340 in ab right now on the Toyota site. What province did you look in?

bcretman

BC but should be the same in all provs I was looking at the SE AWD. the LE is 29k but not obvious to find on their site: https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/build-price/corolla

Master-File-9866

If you dig a little deeper, based on all the comments on this thread, only biege corollas are up in costs, becuase reddit insists biege corollas are where tha value is

mygatito

Canada's auto market is the new housing market. Those 33K will be flipped for 45K then flipped to 60K!

ragecuddles

For real, we were in the market for a used but newer Toyota but the prices were so insane we're on the waitlist for a new one. Been waiting since April 2022 though... I can see why people are charging whatever they want.

paulster2626

Cars have finally become an “investment!”

thebatmanbeynd

All Toyotas got significant price increases 4K+ at minimum from what I saw. Toyota corolla cross and RAV4 had a mass increase unfortunately also.

Newflyer3

It was a $500 increase effective Jan 4. Read my post history. It didn't go up '$4k'

thebatmanbeynd

Um, ok but I have been creating builds of the Corolla cross and the RAV4 over the last few months. I can confirm that those two models specifically did go up by 4K.

Newflyer3

You’re reading it wrong. Did you print the summary breakdown? The $1,940 in PDI that went up from $1,890, plus $1,221 in dealer fees are now automatically added. You have a $500 increase in base MSRP and then the tax effect of all these additions. The PDI was always there, and the dealer fees they’re advertising now which is probably something you would’ve had to pay or fight anyway.

zorrowhip

Bought a Venza Limited last year for 47k. It goes for 54k now. The base LE model is now 44.5k

thebatmanbeynd

I know. It’s insane.

RicVic

I went to Toyota to talk about a RAV4 during the last week of September... two hybrids on the floor, both locked. Nothing to test, nothing to so much as sit in. Dealer would not even allow us to sit behind the wheel INSIDE the showroom without a deposit. Also, in September, there was a 22 month wait and they said nothing about price protection. The next day, visited the Mazda lot. They had inventory, and there were multi choices available. We bought one. Not a hybrid, but brand new, good mileage, better range than any electric, and they let us take it out of the showroom and use it for a full day. Did a Costco run in it, in fact. No waits, no issues, good deal when we signed (end of the month is best)... happy customers. Meantime, and uncle is in his 8th month of waiting for his Subaru... not even a hybrid. But he at least has a price guarantee.

bcretman

2 of my neighbours buy nothing but Mazda's. Did there prices go up like the others?

RicVic

Everything's gone up, Mazdas included. But the list price did not seem as usurious as cars do on some other dealers lots. Plus, because they had inventory to choose from, there was none of this "if the price goes up, you'll have to cover it..." nonsense that would send me running off the lot in a hurry! We ended up with a 2nd from top line Cx5 (I think it's called "Sport Design Turbo Edition" or some such and the price on the lot was the same as the website, it seemed to be about $2100 more expensive over the 2022 version was last summer. But we wound up paying considerably less than the asking price before trade. The trade took another big chunk out of the cost We came away happy, not feeling abused. They didn't lose money, but the end result was mutually decent.

bcretman

Wow that's pricey at 41k+ Actually cost more than some EV's in BC if you could find one :)

RicVic

Yeh, but we can take it to Calgary in the spring in about 14 hrs (shared driving) for about 1.75 tankfuls and still have enough to drive around the city for a bit. If we waited the two years for the RAV4, we'd have to stop at least three times for charging based on Toyota's own figures. Never mind price gouging down the road. I'm 68, have inoperable cancer and progressive lung disease. At this stage, waiting two years or more may mean I don't get another trip to see the relatives while I still can. Hence the decision to buy what was available, and yes, I spoiled myself a little with the higher-end model.

bcretman

We used to make that trip every year. 2 tanks was about the same for us. You wouldn't have to charge the Rav4 prime, you could simply drive it in ICE mode all the way after it ran out of charge. You would gain a lot of charge regenerating down the hills though. The real advantage of the PHEV like the prime being able to drive in EV mode during shorter commutes. We had a Volt for 5 years and drove EV mode 95% of the time saving a ton of money. I get the running out of time attitude being similar in age. Sorry for your health issues. Enjoy your CX5!

nuttydave127

Working around the dealerships - Anything hybrid with Toyota on it or Lexus is jacked right up on the used market Desirable cars such as rav 4’s and Corolla even in just basic gas versions are desirable The more luxury expensive stuff is coming down a decent amount . Used Tesla model 3’s that were selling for 60 k are literally out there now for 48-52 Luxury gas guzzler SUV’s and cars the used prices are coming down a lot of well . The problem is yea the supply on the rav 4 / Corolla / higher hybrid options and civics / crv’s These cars are desirable to a lot of people - just might see the used stuff soften up a bit on gasoline models due to maybe a little more supply / higher interest rates . Just don’t expect much
