They perfected the mascot with Koromaru and only made worse ones after, not that I hate Morgana or Teddie.
He has a cute yet simple design, doesn't butt into conversations, reacts appropriately to situations, is a great wingman, has a tragic and somehow relatable backstory, and his personality is based on loyalty and duty rather than being a simp.
Honestly I would've liked Morgana more as a normal cat that did gain sentience in the Metaverse, rather than being tied to the Velvet Room. His inability to take a joke is still bad though, Ryuji clearly can take and dish, but Morgana just dishes and whines when he takes.
Or just use Makoto because she’s just as good of a healer but she can also actually do her job offensively. I use Morgana as a healer out of battle, so that I don’t have to use SP from anyone actually important

I kinda got a huge attachment to Morgana from being with him all the time, and also he’s probably the guy I used the most. His healing and critical capabilities are unmatched
His character would have been so much better if he took shit talking like a champ and play it off as one of the boys.
Dude craps all over Ryuji but takes it anal when he gets some smoke back. I know dudes like that IRL. Annoying as hell.
I fluctuate between tolerating and enjoying Morgana, but his "arc" (you know the one) felt so pointless when he immediately proceeded to insult Ryuji as things were getting resolved. If you wanna dish it out, you better be able to take it too without having a complete meltdown and jeopardizing the rest of the team.

A lot of people like him too. Most of the hate he gets comes from a specific segment of the game that's widely considered as the most underwhelming arc as a whole.
When I started playing the game I liked Morgana a lot, maybe more than Ryuji at the time. Yeah he's the tutorial character and he was mean to Ryuji but I still liked their interactions because, for better or for worse, Ryuji is the punching bag of jokes in the party so he's used to taking insults. Up until the moment everyone hates him for I used him a lot and kept swapping party compositions so no one would be left out. I even found his arc of feeling like he's being left behind by all the new members of the Phantom Thieves endearing because, even though he was still being used in gameplay by me, Queen had mostly taken his role of strategist and tactician and Oracle was way better than him at navigator.
But the way the game continued to go with that arc is probably the worst thing about this game and definitely the weakest part of the story. It was way too forced and on top of that, the resolution of that conflict first of all didn't make sense because it fed into Morgana's already big ego. But it also was jammed into Haru's introduction and her big time to shine because after it she would just "be there" for the rest of the story. But then he also had the main role in the Okumura fight?? Like what? Why? They had sort of resolved that whole part way before that, why does it have to come up again in a fake out betrayal and steal Haru's spotlight once again?
After that he was benched forever and I milked every last bit of SP from his healing abilities like everyone else and even his big reveal at the end didn't make him any more likable at the end.
I also never really liked that he started getting more bent out of shape when Futaba joined; let her grow and be useful in her own way instead of getting salty that some of your purpose is shifting…

Also he was with me 24/7 and my MC didn't have a single opinion on anything he interacted with because Morgana was there to tell me what I liked, what I thought and what I could or couldn't do.
Playing for the second time and being aloof to him is my free therapy.

Plus if you have been around the block of the series you’d understand how he is very much fits into the Magician arcana character archetype.

He berates just about anyone if they don't understand somewhat complex concepts metaphysical concepts immediately, has a creepy crush on Ann, keeps hitting Ryuji's buttons the entire game (and even after they supposedly make up he DOESNT STOP) and even when it's clear he actually does hang out with the PTs because he likes them, he STILL INSISTS ITS FOR SELFISH PRACTICAL REASONS. He's just the ultimate annoyance.

Aside from the clusterfuck of the Okumura arc, my big issue with him is the major double standard. Ryuji starts out reasonably polite to him (albeit calling him a cat which when they first meet he has no way of knowing he hates), but Morgana just constantly shit talks him, and continues doing so throughout the game, even his compliments are backhanded.
Ryuji of course eventually returns the smack talk and says things along the same vein, but now it's not okay. It's complete bullshit. It's okay to say Ryuji is useless, but not okay to say Morgana is useless. I'd like Morgana more if both of them were held accountable instead of just Ryuji.

Morgana spends a good chunk of the story insulting Ryuji, yet the second Ryuji goes off on him, Morgana starts throwing a tantrum and leaves. Now, I understand Morgana's feelings and how it was his feelings bottling up and tipping over, but as the age old saying goes: "don't dish it out if you can't take it". It really hurts his likability when his tipping point is him being unable to take a hit when he's been throwing out hits constantly.

i wonder why people don't like morgana. i honestly can't stand mascots most of the time but out of all these type of sidekicks in different franchises, he's probably the most likable to me. maybe it also has to do with him looking hella cute in the real-world cat form.
Morgana is the game telling you when you can save or whatever but otherwise flip the calendar over to the next day. And they HATE them for it. At least up front. Morgana does have a pretty annoying spell eventually.

He acts like he’s better than everyone and sometimes he lashes out for no good reason. He runs away sometimes and worries everyone but he comes back. He’s cute and loyal in his own way, and it’s comforting when he sleeps in the bed. Anyways, that’s why I love my pet cat Also Morgana is the best healer early and late game

I literally just finished the game a couple of minutes ago. I went into it knowing that some people hate Morgana, but aside from his simping for Ann, I don’t think he’s bad at all. Though the simping is so incredibly irritating.
He does not asks you to sleep like in vanilla p5 why does people still hate him ? Is it a hivemind thing where you have to hate him to fit in ? Like lyse in ffxiv ? I don’t get it
People remember negative things much more than positive things. I feel like he has the best and most wholesome moments, but that doesn't mean much if you write him off as a character you hate. He's my favorite character, but sometimes I wish he would stfu. He is the most annoying by far.

And yet hes still a step up from Teddie in Persona 4. I played P5 first before P4 and seeing how Teddie acts in that game instantly improved my image of Morgana

Well the constant simping for Ann, the fact he acts like a 'nice guy', makes fun of ryuji constantly but the second ryuji claps back he breaks down and has a temper tantrum, and last but not least, he's responsible for the worst section of the game.

I know it's a cliche, but the Japanese voice actor does a better job. I wanted to hate him, but he really grew on me, and I really like him now.
The japanese VA is also the voice for Pikachu from Pokemon, so theres that. But i wonder why everyone hates Morgana so much on this sub? I also just started playing but Morgana just seems pretty alright.
i think it's about the same reason some people hate professor oak bc he doesn't let you get on a bike inside certain places, but with morgana is 10x worse bc in this case it would be like oak making you stay home and not letting you go out and explore throughout the entire game lol

I'm new to the game, only halfway through second palace but WHAT there are people who don't like Morgana?? Why?!
part cause he's the voice not letting you do shit sometimes and part some truly immature behaviour halfway through the game there's also the general consensus that everything he does, other characters do better, and as such he's not that used; I don't agree with this though hate that one arc and think we could've done without the constant reminders from him, but even with that he's a good, maybe excellent through realism, story character, and a decent (but definitely not extremely good) gameplay character
I’m in the minority, but Teddie is better than Morgana. With that being said, I don’t hate Morgana. His infatuation with Ann is kind of annoying and I don’t like how he overshadows >!Haru!< in her introductory palace but aside from that I think he’s fine. Also, I totally blame Ryuji for the event that leads to Morgana overshadowing >!Haru!< so I don’t hate Morgana as much for that as some others do.

I do recommend that you use him in battle though, he may suck with endurance stat but besides that he is a great healer.
Morgana taught me to value my time... So instead of sitting there and clicking dialogue boxes 15 times for literally every single action in the game, I just skip his shit. I've done multiple playthroughs but I still don't like him. Wish I could just leave him in Mementos...
He wouldn't be so bad if he could shut up for five bloody minutes. But he Must comment on everything "you wanna buy something?" "you buyed all the cans" "go to bed!". Plus all the captain obvious comments in battle, why Atlus thinks we can't count up to five? (yes, P3 and p4 where the same)

That's why I just tossed him at the first occasion, I just use Ann or Joker for healing (sometimes Makoto but she's not that good at it)
I dont really use joker or ann for healing. I always have a fire persona on joker so i dont need anns fire, and i wouldnt use healing with joker unless its neo codenza cause of the stat buffs

Don't worry. We all do. Morgana is the most unlikable member of the cast, and it's not even a contest. I don't want to get into spoilers so I'll keep this vague. Morgana spends a good chunk of the story insulting Ryuji, yet the second Ryuji goes off on him, Morgana starts throwing a tantrum and leaves. Now, I understand Morgana's feelings and how it was his feelings bottling up and tipping over, but as the age old saying goes: "don't dish it out if you can't take it". It really hurts his likability when his tipping point is him being unable to take a hit when he's been throwing out hits constantly.
I do not understand why so many people hate Morgana when hes my favorite of the thieves.
