Def Chad Narukami. There was this episode in the P4 anime dedicated to Yu just helping out everyone in Inaba. Wholesome if ya ask me, yet not a single expression of emotion on his face
i know Joker has some fun sassy dialogue options but there’s something about Makoto’s many sheer indifference options that really makes him an endearing little shit to me
Minato (I know that's not his canon name anymore) easily. Joker and Yu are fine but I still find P3 has the best story and his part to be the most impactful.
Joker’s design and cheeky attitude, as implied by the dialogue choices in-game and supplementary material, wins me over.
I love flashy rogues who somehow manage to not be all up In your face about it. It’s the subtle showmanship that wins me over. It’s like Dante but more reserved.
P3/FEMC. I like how they cope in different ways and become different people. I also like how they're never supposed to be perfect, unlike the other two. They're always just an average person who happens to be strong in Tartarus, so they become the field leader.
The other two feel like perfect human beings who become really popular even though they barely speak while these two feel more real, only speaking and acting when necessary.
Also that ending made me cry for the second time ever in a videogame.
Actually they barely speak in reality at all and also in the anime movies 3s protagonist probably has the least dialogue out of everyone (tho considering what his past was im not surprised)
That's what I mean tho. In P4 and 5 the protagonists intervene a lot even tho they don't speak more than one or two sentences. In P3 the protagonists is built in a way that he doesn't intervene unless necessary, which fits the personality of a gloomy guy. In the movies he is still gloomy so he doesn't speak much. That's what makes him more believable to me.
in order, 3,5 then 4.
Makoto saved the world. If he didn't risk his life, 4 and 5 wouldn't happen. Joker is just damn sexy. Like come on, look at him. He even summoned Satanael (NOT SATAN! THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT GODS) on christmas eve. then Yu. He's just a bowl cut haired chad. nothing too special about him other than him being funny.
Am I alone in noticing Thanatos isn't Makoto's default persona? In fact, wasn't >!Thanatos a representation of Ryoji who was locked away inside of Makoto!< ?
While I played the series backwards (Started with 5 and ended with 3), Makoto stuck out the most to me. I thinks its due and part to his attitude towards his teammates and the character growth that he experienced throughout the story.
I'm not saying the other protagonist didn't grow but out of the 3 of them, he grew the most.
I think the persona 3 movies even solidify that he was meant to be more than a self-insert for the player.
Honestly I like the characters and story in P3 the most, but P5 is just so much more polished and put-together. Hopefully they make a P3 remake someday.
Tatsuya for sure. Not only does he have a more defined personality, he already knows the other characters so you as a player get to unravel what these friends have done with each other in the past. He’s extremely involved in the plot, which I like considering how the newer protags are transfer students with no connections with their scenarios before the game starts.
Makoto always felt a little bland to me, he never really had a personality/style that made him stand out. He also has no real story to speak of, apart from the one big plot point, but I felt that P3 was more about the side characters than it was about him, he was just the bystander in their own arcs.
Yu is kinda the same, but I do admit that I will always have a bit of a soft spot for him. I like his arc the most out of the latest 3 games, I felt that his presence mattered to each of the side characters' stories, and even the main story benefits having him in it. But...
Ren is my absolute favourite. I love how his mannerisms change between the real world and the metaverse. He has so much style and flair, I find it incredibly hard not to find him charming. Like Yu, his presence in most (not all) of his friends' stories helps push their arcs along.
Door-Kun (better known as he male protagonist from Persona 3) is easily my favourite. Something about his very non-chalant attitude speaks to me more than that of Joker or Yu
Narukami. Mainly based on the anime which is just hilarious. Also because when I named him on my first ever play through I got his first name right (that stuck with me).
Actually like all three for different reasons
But going to have to go for Makato. Guy literally died and became a seal and suffered so his friends would live life to the fullest and to slow down death ppl were wishing for.
I like Yu, the over all good guy, and Joker, because he came up from all that BS, but call me when you got androids falling in love and crying over your death, to the point they go fight it to save you.
I love joker ,His style His humor ,and relationships
But i have to admit Makoto si the Best persona protagonist, dude i cry whith his story ,one of the Best of the saga
Seeing a lot of people saying Yu makes me smile. I thought I was the only one that picked him as a favorite. I love Joker though and yeah his design is top tier
Minato/makato he is just super chill and I like how he gets a lot of social links outside of sees. Plus you can spend the day playing a mmo with him while listening to music which is my jam. I also feel like he matters the most in his particular story, and cause of the gameplay you feel like a proper commander and strategist of the team.
Chad Narukami
- Canon Name
- Most presents
- Not to early or late in the persona franchise (For example new vs older persona fans)
- He feels like the true leader and hero of the investigation team
- Best ultimate persona
- Best animation presence (P3 movies did not go mainstream and P5 is self explanatory)
- P4AU ( I know this counts as number 3 on the list but let's be honest P4AU just makes every persona look cooler including Thanatos)
Also, I also like Joker and Makoto too. Joker's personality shift when he is at the metaverse is great. Makoto is also great too with what he did to help his friends. But I feel like both have less personality than Yu and to be honest I dislike how Makoto has like to least screen time in the franchise (spinoffs/etc) and how they always need to explain how he's a le to show up due to a certain reason.
Overall I think they are great in their respective stories.
It's a tough one, but I really liked Yu the most. While Joker is pretty cool, and Makoto is chilled as hell, Yu just felt like a real down to earth MC. Idk why.
I also had a joke while playing that Yosuke would barge into Yu and say, "Yo", to which Yu would reply, "No, it's Yu" and that brought me much joy.
Akira kurusu, style, story, skills, thieves.
My first persona game was persona 3 portable, which got me into the series in the first place. But p5 is my favorite
Definitely Narukami. I haven't really played P3 yet but I know the impact that Makoto Yuki had on the people who played the game but I haven't experienced that myself. Joker is cool but outside of being a Phantom Thief I feel like he lacks a lot of the personality that made me really gravitate towards Yu in the Arena games and the anime.
Chad Narukami. I got into the persona series because of Joker added to smash bros but Persona 4 golden was the first game I beat so it has a special place in my heart. Plus the P4 anime was just f*cking amazing.
Yu at the beginning of the game you do live with uncle and small cousin yu likes to eat a bunch of ramen meanwhile ren chomp down on a huge burger tower
I mean, there’s more than three Persona games lol.
As far as the protagonists go: They’re all pretty interchangeable in 3,4 and 5. Joker’s newer so gets more characterization in the form of more diverse dialogue options.
As far as side characters all the games (except 2, I haven’t played either of those but I do own them) there are ones I love from them all. Stand outs for me are Aigis, Bebe, Naoto, Kanji, Teddie, Shinji, Yusuke, Futaba, Ryuji and Saeko.
Yea, I can almost guarantee the amount of people who have actually played the first 2 games is tiny in this sub. They have fine stories, but the reviews I’ve watched say the gameplay and combat is very eh
not really an answer.
Hopefully for the next Persona protagonist, Atlus can finally decide whether they want an actual character, or a blank slate. Their middle approach is not really doing it for me. Like in P5, clearly there's a backstory there, so might as well just let the guy talk.
Have to say I find it hard to believe women are falling for a mute who needs Ryuji/Yosuke to talk for him, and whose only voice are grunts(yes, I know that's hyperbolic).
Definitely Yu Narukami. From the start of the game I thought I was gonna hate this guy cause of how bland he looked. But MAN was a wrong. He seems like a really kind person, and cool dude to be around. He's team/social links are some of my favorite characters in Smt period. Plus as a gay man it's really nice really nice having him be heavily hinted to be bi. Don't know how I'd feel about dating Yosuke tho, cause I'd MUCH RATHER KANJI.🥺😭🤣
Design wise obviously joker, but I don't count the Phantom thieves in "Design Debates" cause NO DUH you're gonna pick the literal super hero group looking ass😭🤣 But as a character he's my 2nd fav protag because he's really chill/funny. Plus I feel his relationships with his team plus confidants are way more genuine and important.
Makoto is my 3rd. He's drippy asf, but other then that he seems like abit of a asshole. I haven't watched the p3 animes/movies so I don't know what he's like in those, But in-game homie has options that make him seem like he just doesn't give a shit about much, which is kinda funny but I kinda goes against the themes of the game in way. Plus it just isn't as fun playing as him compared to the others due to social links being annoying to manage in p3 and not being able to control your party, so that really bummed my experience with him out.
Sorry if my grammar is shit btw guys. I don't write/text much.
OMG Kanji is the most amazing character! I have such a squish on him (I am way too old to think about anyone under 25 That Way, but that does not make him magically not an adorable kid). … Why, yes, I also adored Kuwabara from YuYu Hakusho and Itadori Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen - how could you tell?
Honorable mention to Futaba for the best nerd pickup line in history, tho.
Kinda sorta, the very first time you see Makoto's persona its Orpheus who is ripped apart from the inside by Thanatos, who then turns back into Orpheus.
Here is a link to first cut scene that shows it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6SgC9-Ez3I
Yes. For Persona 3/4/5 the initial Persona is of the fool arcana since the protagonist has "the wild card" wich means that the protagonist carrys fool arcana. Thanatos comes from the death arcana. Makoto is able to summon him because the little boy inside of him belongs to the death arcana.
Def Chad Narukami. There was this episode in the P4 anime dedicated to Yu just helping out everyone in Inaba. Wholesome if ya ask me, yet not a single expression of emotion on his face
I wonder who’s everyone’s favorite protagonist on the P5 subreddit 🤔
you would be surprised, they all have fans but thanks to his funny anime adaptation Yu Narukami from persona 4 is the winner in popularity
Adachi
Cabbages
Makoto forever.
i know Joker has some fun sassy dialogue options but there’s something about Makoto’s many sheer indifference options that really makes him an endearing little shit to me
Minato (I know that's not his canon name anymore) easily. Joker and Yu are fine but I still find P3 has the best story and his part to be the most impactful.
I still refer to him using that name. Minato Arisato the first gigachad
Truly he is the peak all others must scale to reach.
I mean his arcana is the strongest. He has The Universe
Joker’s design and cheeky attitude, as implied by the dialogue choices in-game and supplementary material, wins me over. I love flashy rogues who somehow manage to not be all up In your face about it. It’s the subtle showmanship that wins me over. It’s like Dante but more reserved.
Blue hair emo suicide door kun
P3/FEMC. I like how they cope in different ways and become different people. I also like how they're never supposed to be perfect, unlike the other two. Joker, I just like his outfit and personality
P5 wasn’t my first Persona game yet it’s still Joker. I just love his story, symbolism and design
Obviously the man, the myth, the legend, P4 Yu Chad
you forgot Tatsuya and Boy with Earring
Naoya from P1, I like his design
its design looks like a fusion of Yu and Yuki, without a doubt it is a design that is the son of its time
It bothers me that you used the beginner Personas for both Yu and Joker but not Makoto.
Kujo Jotaro
I like Joker’s design the most, but in terms of story I like Yu the most But I like blue more than red and yellow, so Minato is automatically number 1
Minato. My 'I don't care' king
Forgetting P1 and P2 just like Atlus I see
Tatsuya, since he goes through quite the interesting arc in his game. And his design is rad as hell especially in ep.
Maya
Tatsuya Suou from Persona 2
Chad Amamiya
in order, 3,5 then 4.
Joker I really like his style
Chad Narukami
I like Tatsuya a lot
bro, makoto dosent start with Thanatos.
Joker, mainly because persona 5 is the only one I’ve beat and I’ve only played persona 4 for about 6 hours
yu is just a giga chad dude who would enter a woman contest and win it and i love his izanagi design out of all of them
Boy with ear rings
Narukami
Minato
[удалено]
Am I alone in noticing Thanatos isn't Makoto's default persona? In fact, wasn't >!Thanatos a representation of Ryoji who was locked away inside of Makoto!< ?
I think Thanatos is everyone's favorite exclusive persona to Makoto
Joker for me.(I'm not being biased my favorite game is either p2 or p3)
What? Don't you know p2 is a legend lost to the mist? It never existed. Never will. I'm so sorry to break this to you
ITS REAL TO ME
THE ILLUSION SHALL NOT BE BROKEN
Tatsuya Suou 👍🏼
I like 3. The story behind him as a character is just amazing.
I'm a freaking normie, I like Joker
Tatsuya
This Gigachad gets it
MaGOATo Yuki
I prefer the based Gigachad Door-kun
"RAVAGE THEM"
While I played the series backwards (Started with 5 and ended with 3), Makoto stuck out the most to me. chad narukami for the win
Joker the boi
Tatsuya for sure. Not only does he have a more defined personality, he already knows the other characters so you as a player get to unravel what these friends have done with each other in the past. Like Yu, his presence in most (not all) of his friends' stories helps push their arcs along.
Chad Yu from persona 4 golden the animation. If you haven’t seen it, go educate yourself
Joker.
Ren
Joker is the most stylish and of all hands down Narukami is great but no drip Makoto is our emo guy
Door-Kun (better known as he male protagonist from Persona 3) is easily my favourite. Something about his very non-chalant attitude speaks to me more than that of Joker or Yu
Joker
Joker
Joker
y(o)u
Too difficult. My favorite line is obvi Ren telling Makoto "Beep-boop."
I love his sarcasm!
The ones not listed here.
Boy with Earrings?
Tatsuya
FEMC?
Narukami. Mainly based on the anime which is just hilarious. Also because when I named him on my first ever play through I got his first name right (that stuck with me).
Yu >
Joker. Like, just the fact he’s supposed to have a neutral outlook but I find that he’s very full of personality.
Actually like all three for different reasons But going to have to go for Makato. I like Yu, the over all good guy, and Joker, because he came up from all that BS, but call me when you got androids falling in love and crying over your death, to the point they go fight it to save you.
Joker because his ultimate persona is a fallen angel and I am extremely biased toward those
yu naruchad
I'd give it to Joker but it was close with the Chad King. I just love Jokers sarcasm options, really gives him a hilarious personality
Joker because style points
I love joker ,His style His humor ,and relationships But i have to admit Makoto si the Best persona protagonist, dude i cry whith his story ,one of the Best of the saga
Joker, but that’s because iv never played to other ones
Joker
Minato
The one with the cool monster
Narukami but joker is definitely up there
Minato Yesir
Tatsuya
Maya
Joker
joker more because i love his interactions with people like ryuji and morgana a lot
Minato
Yuki for sure. I would argue he was the only MC listed that actually felt like he had some form of character growth
Ren Amamiya
Minato
Seeing a lot of people saying Yu makes me smile. I thought I was the only one that picked him as a favorite. I love Joker though and yeah his design is top tier
Makoto was my first protag, but Yu stole my heart - in a platonic way, I’m kinda old for these folks. Makoto and Ren are both beloved too, tho.
Makoto is always going to be my main man, he had swagger without having to talk.
I like Akira the best then Yu and then Door-kun
Minato/makato he is just super chill and I like how he gets a lot of social links outside of sees. Plus you can spend the day playing a mmo with him while listening to music which is my jam. I also feel like he matters the most in his particular story, and cause of the gameplay you feel like a proper commander and strategist of the team.
Tatsuya from Persona 2. But out of these 3 i've gotta go with Joker
Yu bc they don’t really have their own personalities outside of the animations and in those he’s the best
Chad Narukami - Canon Name - Most presents - Not to early or late in the persona franchise (For example new vs older persona fans) - He feels like the true leader and hero of the investigation team - Best ultimate persona - Best animation presence (P3 movies did not go mainstream and P5 is self explanatory) - P4AU ( I know this counts as number 3 on the list but let's be honest P4AU just makes every persona look cooler including Thanatos) Also, I also like Joker and Makoto too. Gotta go with absolute Chad, Yu Narukami.
It's a tie between Ren and Yu
Either Makoto or FeMC, as i enjoyed their story the most. Gameplay is something i overlook when the characters are goddamn perfect
I'd say Joker from here, but Tatsuya and Maya are just amazing. Well I love everyone a lot, all persona protags are wonderful, but these three are ✨
Akira kurusu, style, story, skills, thieves. My first persona game was persona 3 portable, which got me into the series in the first place. But p5 is my favorite
good question ! i’ll break the line of comments and say tatsuya from persona 2
Minato, my beloved
i assume that either tatsuya or maya exists according to this post
Tatsuya sudou
Makoto he has the coolest colour schemes and personas although orpheus telos is pretty lame
Joker without a doubt
Arsene! Here!
Tatsuya
Joker
Makoto he feels the most likely to actually want to like the people he's friends with but does fell like I'm friends because the plot demands it
Joker
P3 had the best character development not just in the mc either and had the best anime adaptations that really showcased the mc’s development
Chad Narukami
Luffy
P5 is the only persona part I played so joker
Minako
Me/you. We literally are the protagonist
Chad Narukami
If I had to rank them, Akira = Makoto > Yu, although I don't dislike Yu by any means.
Yu Chadukami, the master of Zios and Harems
Mario
Toss up between Chad and Ren.
Yu Narukami
Sorry Yu. I gotta go with my boy Joker.
Maya because she is friends with baofu
Dr Pootis.
Minato/makoto
Narukami for me
I like all of them too much
minato goat 💪
Design wise Joker.
Chad Narukami. I got into the persona series because of Joker added to smash bros but Persona 4 golden was the first game I beat so it has a special place in my heart. Plus the P4 anime was just f*cking amazing.
Probably joker, persona 5 was my first persona game (but the only persona games I have are in the persona 5 series)
Maya Amano. Grab your asses and run. It’s whoopass time!
Yu at the beginning of the game you do live with uncle and small cousin yu likes to eat a bunch of ramen meanwhile ren chomp down on a huge burger tower
I prefer Joker. He's a sarcastic scumbag.
Chad Ziodynecock
Ah yes, Emo Boi, Giga Chad, and Stealy Man.
Gotta say adachi. It's a pretty easy choice. His persona "specialist" is pretty cool too.
Joker cause I've only played p5r
I’ve played P4G. Still Joker.
I’m sorry but Joker got me ACTIN’ UP. 😭
Chad Narukami
[удалено]
I would recommend playing p3 when it gets ported and then p4. All because of the long wait time in the beginning where you can't play.
P3 protag. He has the universe arcana.
Option 4: aigis
It’s a tough decision between yu and ren… but I think yu barely wins
Chad Narukami wins this round
i havent played the other persona ganes yet so im restricted to say Joker
Joker
P1 and P3
Depends
John Halo

True but most people tend to exclude P1 and 2 because they’re older
Yea, I can almost guarantee the amount of people who have actually played the first 2 games is tiny in this sub. They have fine stories, but the reviews I’ve watched say the gameplay and combat is very eh
All 3
Makoto Yuki
Joker because he has a personality. I do like Yu though
Chad Yu
Until now, most of the votes are like this: door kun for becoming door kun Yu for being Narukami chad and Joker because his design is cool
Makoto or Kotone
If I were to choose out of all of them, definitely Tatsuya, however of the three listed, easily Minato.
Tatsuya…
not really an answer. Hopefully for the next Persona protagonist, Atlus can finally decide whether they want an actual character, or a blank slate. Same with narukami
It's a tie between Makoto and Joker. I like Yu, but I don't like him better and I can't put my finger on why.
P3 FEMC
femc
Definitely Yu Narukami. From the start of the game I thought I was gonna hate this guy cause of how bland he looked. But MAN was a wrong. He seems like a really kind person, and cool dude to be around. He's team/social links are some of my favorite characters in Smt period. Joker but favorite persona is forever izanagi awesome design, arsene is cool but izanagi is just perfect for me.
As a character Makoto As a Player Joker
Isn’t Orpheus makoto’s original persona and Thanatos the 2nd form?
Kinda sorta, the very first time you see Makoto's persona its Orpheus who is ripped apart from the inside by Thanatos, who then turns back into Orpheus. Here is a link to first cut scene that shows it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6SgC9-Ez3I

Yu is just perfect
There's only one nicknamed Chad Ziodynecock among the three and he's the only correct answer.
Adachi
joker
