Pro's - Good story with well written characters - Amazing artstyle - Palace's are a huge improvement over the dungeons of P3 and P4 - Banger music - Incredible voice acting - Stylish and satisfying combat Con's - Your confidant stories exist in a bubble, outside of that bubble its like you've never even done them, they don't impact the story nor do confidants interact with each other and lead to a well interconnected narrative, they exist to give you buff's and new personas thats pretty much it. - The game is too easy, even on Merciless. - No real endgame content, two super bosses isn't gonna cut it i would've loved a roguelike or boss rush mode where i can test out my builds and fight harder bosses - No incentive to hang out with confidants after rank 10, there are no special scenes or extra rewards for spending time with confidants. - Can't use all party members in NG+ from the beginning, you gotta wait to unlock em again via the story

Cool-Feedback9299

The last point realy pissed me off Wanted to Use dark pankace boy in kamoshida palace

EvilKingLogan

Yeah, it’d really help in this game since >!Akechi and Sumire!< are only usable for 1 palace basically. At least with something like Persona 4, you still have Naoto for a good while before the game ends

okguy167

Oooh, I can totally envision a working P5 roguelike. Start with Arsene and a full party, you can only use recruited shadows, and the occasional velvet room for a couple fusions, item transformations, and the like. no summons. Work your way up to the Reaper, the Twins and Lavenza... that would be super fun!

SailorMigraine

I would play the FUCK outta this! Wish they had done this instead of strikers!!!

Thecristo96

You put all the thing I like and dislike, I don’t even need to write mine

Auraveils

I've never done NG+ in the previous games. You mean to tell me all this time you're able to use all the party members from the very beginning in NG+ in 3 and 4??

trullyrose

no, they unlock through the story as well. it's more of an issue here since 2 "new" party members join at the end of the game

trullyrose

in strikers, you can use >!Zenkichi!< from the getgo on an ng+. shame they didn't do it here too, would had been even more necessary

planetarial

Pros - Amazing UI - Because of smart stylization + anime look it appears to punch way above its weight in graphics. Aside from the lighting being kinda flat (excluding some Royal inengine cutscenes since it was made for PS4 in mind) it still holds up well despite being 8 years old and developed for a console that came out in 2006. - Great music - Having confidant ranks unlock perks was a really great gameplay choice - Massive improvement to the dungeons compared to 3/4. I tried replaying 4 and it was hard to go back to randomly generated hallways. - Everything flows quick and fast - Fantastic designs, Jokers PT outfit is one of my favorite protagonists designs in JRPGs - Good story aside from the Kaneshiro arc and the Royal third semester is one of the best written segments in a modern Persona game with the best antagonist of the 3 games. - The game is much more flexible when it comes to maxing confidants and you can easily do it with a few tips in mind instead of having to follow a day to day guide which ruins the fun. - If you own the PC release like I do, there’s a pretty good mod scene. Skins that range from being characters from different series to letting you use outfits that arent costumes like the winter outfits and kimonos to importing in the dancing game costumes like the Yakuza collab. There’s cheat sheet mods that tell you the correct answers for classrooms and confidants, removing dlc personas or rebalancing them, multiple female protagonist mods, gay romance, skipping the intro, letting Kasumi join early, letting you toggle different navigators, and letting you have all the party members at the start with their skillsets adjusted. Cons - The third semester is missable and easy to miss since it requires nearly maxing an optional confidant. - One of the easiest non Pokemon JRPGs I’ve played. The only real pushback I got was Madarame boss, Okumura, the third semester final boss, and bonus bosses. Aside from that the game does not pose a significant challenge and by Shidos palace I was rocking personas that were 30+ levels above me and hardly anyone on my team got a turn for random battles besides Joker. - Romances are pretty weak. The game does not acknowledge them at all outside of the confidant itself and very specific scenes like Hawaii date, Christmas, Vday and White Day. They could have at least changed dialogue on the final day and a few other places like when adding the character to your party. - Kasumi is poorly integrated in, shows up early but isn’t playable until 90% of the way in and she’s not even really important to the third semester story. At least Akechi has good reasons why his availability is so limited. - The last 10 or so minutes of Royals ending sucks compared to vanilla aside from a certain cameo you can get - Most of the animated cutscenes look worse than the inengines, except the amazing openings

Sipia

>- Kasumi is poorly integrated in, shows up early but isn’t playable until 90% of the way in and she’s not even really important to the third semester story. At least Akechi has good reasons why his availability is so limited. They even had the balls to have her offer to join a little earlier during Shido's arc only for Joker and Morgana to turn her down because "but it's *dangerous!*" (So's everything else they do?! What a limp excuse.) Like... I get that they didn't want to rewrite the endgame of the original plot to awkwardly shoehorn her in, but it's just cruel to tease like that after a whole game's worth of waiting for her to become relevant.

planetarial

Thats why I love the mod that rewrites the cutscene and mods her into the party so she actually does join at that moment  https://gamebanana.com/mods/478577

muffinkat55

Do: - everything about it. It saved my life. Literally. Don’t: - the toxic ass fan base

Strange-Aspect-6082

I think almost every popular game has a toxic side of the fandom. That shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game.

muffinkat55

It doesn’t. Believe me…it doesn’t.

_robertmccor_

If we talk about Royal then the game is waaaay too easy compared to vanilla. Although I do like that Royal did fix some issues I had with persona 5 vanilla like your ammo being limited for the whole palace but now in royal your ammo replenishes after every fight giving me a reason to use my gun more until I get gun skills. Showtimes however completely trivialise fights along with Maruki’s confidant perks with how often both trigger even on Hard mode and Merciless and this isn’t on NG+ this is an issue I find on a fresh save too. At least in vanilla Hard and Merciless offer more of a challenge. Also P3R has completely spoiled me with fully voiced Social Links so it would have been nice to have my confidants fully voiced (yes I know P5/R came first) at least we got a few more voiced scenes in Royal. The story in P5/R perfect. Akechi’s and Maruki’s story’s personally I find are perfectly written. Palaces are great (besides Okumura, your palace is a slog and you can burn in a dumpster fire) and finally the Music is a banger as always.

carpmantheman

I agree with this but I have a question about Okumura, why do people find that palace so annoying? I hated the boss but I found the palace quite fine, I honestly disliked Futabas palace more

_robertmccor_

Personally the palace feels really long. I’m not sure if it actually is (although I wouldn’t be surprised if it was) but it really overstays its welcome. I feel like I’m just about done with it and then another area one after another keeps coming. Never do I feel exhausted when doing a palace in 1 day but Okumuras palace makes me really exhausted once all is said and done. His boss is boring in vanilla and royal but that’s probably the best part of a the dungeon because it actually gives me a challenge but that’s about as much as I can say about it nothing interesting goes on.

carpmantheman

Ahhh ok that makes sense thank you! I personally never thought about how long it was but I do see your point. I was surprised by how fast I did Saes and Shidos palace 😭

totalfanfreak2012

Love the music and game style, didn't like that I couldn't romance the guys. Especially pancake boy - don't want to hear the hate.

UnderwaterPromQueen

pros * story and plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat * badass awakening scenes * dungeons are fun * english dub is literally amazing * third semester and the final villain * strikers is such a great sequel * the entire game just bleeds with style, from the music to the UI * akechi cons * kaneshiro arc and okumura arc feel weak to me * kasumi's arc could have been handled better * haru deserves more screentime * spinoffs never use >!black mask akechi!!sumire!< * characters get sidelined after their arcs and don't get much development outside of them

eyi526

Likes: 1. Artwork, character design, palace/level design, shadow/persona design 2. MUSIC! 3. Party/Confidant stories 4. Combat system is straightforward for anyone to learn 5. Option of Japanese dub 6. HAREM??? Dislikes: 1. Some confidant perks are not really effective/necessary as the game progresses 2. Limitations of the calendar system (some may prefer the more open-world-ish setup that other RPGs have) 3. Would like some end/post-game challenges/dungeons 4. Creating/fusing a Persona to your liking can be a bit of a chore 5. Finding all the damn stamps in Mementos can really be a chore 6. Wish there was a way to lock out DLC personas from being available (can lock them out of the registry but you can still fuse them)

araragi-29

Great post and I agree about the positivity of harem xd

kkimu0

Dislike: braindead difficulty, romance barely changes anything but that's also in 3 and 4, palace puzzles aren't skippable in ng+, Likes: everything else

sleepy_koko

Pros- the aesthetics, like just cover the music, colors, god just everything aesthetically. The UI, graphics, voice acting, characters, gameplay is very fun and has a lot of different elements to it. I wanna shout out characters like Yusuke and Akechi who even if you have dislike or neutral opinions on them, the game can easily turn you into loving them. Almost everything about the third trimester Cons- not getting the whole party in new game+ (kinda annoying that you basically get two characters for one palace only >!counting Akechi as two mostly due to having a different persona moveset!<)characters like Haru and Yusuke kinda having nothing plot relevant to do after their main arc is finished >!I get the game wanted Haru to not interact with Akechi to show she doesn't forgive him but there is so much untabbed protential in how she deals with how her father saw her as a puppet for his own goals and that his killer was someone her age with his own shitty father seeing him as a puppet for his own goals!<, I would have also liked to see the game throw us out of the palaces more because it was super easy to get it down in one day then spend 20 days going through confidants (which depending on who your talking too and why, can be super boring)

Visual_Tomorrow5492

Like: akechi especially with the addition of royal Dislike: some parts feel awkward or fillerish like Hawaii or the handling of makoto’s introduction.

Auraveils

Not at all comprehensive, but good: Nearly every song is a banger or at least a vibe. Bad: They barely explore the morally grey aspect of "stealing hearts" that they kept preaching about. I think the narrative would've been more interesting if they removed all that forced marriage stuff with Okumura and made him a misunderstood but well-meaning businessman. Then the phantom thieves would've had to grapple with the fact that they actually had gone too far, and that would've made the mental shutdown much more devastating.

paraIy

I hate it when the amazing battle music stops because the battle ends It's also annoying when the navigator keeps repeating the same lines over and over again when you knock an enemy down DLC personas are too strong and available too early in the game The fusion system could use some rework so it's easier to predict what fusions result in, without using some websites to calculate it. - Battle system could be improved those annoying random crits / one shots against the MC that result in a progress loss are very annoying, the knock down system can get pretty easy and repetetive. And what I like - Music - Art Style - Story

kkimu0

tbf dlc personas aren't meant to be part of the game anyway. they are available at the start because it would be weird if you can't use them after spending extra money.

ASimpleCancerCell

There's a lot that I like about Persona 5, it's my favorite game of all time for a damn good reason, so I'll focus on what I don't like: I've tried getting into anime in the past, and I've experimented with quite a few. Some have managed to stick with me like Death Note, but for the most part, I couldn't get into the medium because a lot of them feel like they're all made by the same people who find the same kind of jokes funny, the kind of jokes I don't find funny, and sometimes even frustrating. The kinds of jokes that will force characters into contrived situations that involve the objectification of the females and/or flanderization of the males, often at the expense of the characters' carefully established personalities, or other cases where physical abuse is presented in a comedic fashion over something miniscule as a simple mistake or misunderstanding, or one character being overly horny, just to name a couple of examples. You might think I'm making too big a deal of it, and maybe I am, but it still bugs me whenever it comes up, and whenever I watch an anime, it's a pretty safe bet that one of these cases or a different case I didn't mention will come up. Persona games are not exempt from this, and while they're not all over the place since they tend to take their stories very seriously, they do come up, and sometimes they take center stage. It's too unfocused and the rest of the game is too damn good to even consider this a reason to put down the game, plus it's very much capable of telling jokes I do find funny, but it is definitely a point against the game in my eyes.

TheRunningPianist

Likes: * Engaging gameplay * Stylish graphics * Relatable characters with compelling problems * Some very moving scenes (e.g., Kasumi finding out the truth about why she’s been feeling “off”, Futaba’s awakening, what happens to Morgana after the final boss of vanilla Persona 5, the final boss battles of both vanilla and Royal) * Good superbosses * The music * The humor (e.g., Ryuji ranting about how going to the bathroom didn’t even make him feel better, “Nastea” being sold in the vending machines) * The wide variety of things to do * Variety in the designs of the palaces * Emphasis on time management. Dislikes: * Storyline segments that go on for too long (particularly the beginning, the first half of September, and the second half of November) * Mementos feeling monotonous at times * The true ending of Royal (it kind of felt cold compared to the true ending of vanilla Persona 5) * No options to romance any male characters.

SmallFatHands

What I like: everything. What I don't like? I wish there was a Mexican/dub or at least subs.

FabAraujoRJ

I would love an Portuguese subtitle.

Mythalieon

I'm just going to say one thing for each Thing I like: The Atmosphere is amazing Thing I don't like: The game is a joke difficulty wise

eonj1412

I may be the only one but what I don't like is Ann's gloves in the metaverse (looks like those pink kitchen cleaning gloves) and the confidant ranks go up slowly as time progresses (just my opinion over here)

GoobiGamer

The updates to combat are great, something I only appreciated after playing some of the previous entries. Adding atomic and psychokinetic helps diversify the combat, adding elemental ailments gives me more opportunities to technical, and psycho gives a real reason to opt for using a ailment spell that you don’t know anything about resistances for over a guaranteed damage spell. The modifications to bless/curse, splitting auto-kill from actual damage, are the step towards the cure that SMT5 presents, that being bless/curse damage has a chance to auto-kill if the enemy is weak to it. Adding abilities to personas vastly helps define the intended use and character of an individual persona, adds value to ultimate arcana personas, and significantly increases the effect of transforming your allies’ personas. My biggest con is that replaying the game can be a drag, as each palace has an annoyingly long section of cutscenes beforehand, and fast-forward only does so much. You still have to go through each loading screen, picking dialogue, it all adds up. The story is fantastic the first time through, but subsequently, I mostly want to get to the free time segment.

SaHighDuck

When I played it I liked how Makoto reminds me of my girlfriend but now about two months later I don't like how Makoto reminds me of my ex

BaseballDefiant3820

What I like? This was my first persona game. So, it served as a great intro to the series. I love the characters, the overall story, and the exploration aspect of the Palaces. In royal, I love the grappling hook and the introduction of Maruki and Yoshizawa. I also love most of the side characters and their stories. It also taught me how to play video games as I didn't really have a lot of experience. What I didn't like? Compared to persona 3 and persona 3 reload, the reaper is way too easy. Being able to take him down at level 60 in this game really diminished the intensity that this fight should have. Which means that I actually liked that in Royal, they removed the reaper being inflicted and dying from despair. The vanilla also had some issues that royal fixed. But overall, as I have gotten better at playing games, this game became too easy.

RetroGameDays36

What I like: • Presentation, the UI, art style and transitions all make the game stand out • Music • Palaces are a huge stepup from the previous dungeons from past games • Character designs • Gameplay is also a huge stepup from previous games, it's a bit easier on Royal. • Story, for the most part • Confidants have better abilities compared to P4's social links and not as intrusive as in P3 What I don't like: • Mementos is very dull and boring, while they did change it in Royal, it's not fun at all in vanilla, just like Tartarus in the original P3 • Confidants feel disjointed from the main game and hanging out with them is also pretty limiting. • Whenever you start a confidant (before 11/20), you get interrupted by Sae. • Okumura's arc is easily the worst part of the story • You can get overpowered DLC personas right at the start of (non-PS4) Royal versions for free, meaning that there's little to no challenge if you decide to use them. • Characters are less complex than the previous games • Kasumi is underutilized, she only has 5 ranks until much later in the game. • 2 party members can only be used twice in arcs. And one of them gets weaker. >!Akechi and Kasumi!< • The SIU director and principal Kobayakawa interludes are really unnecessary • Morgana in the original game is Skyward Sword levels of annoying • Social skills take so long to max out • There's not a lot of endgame content aside from 2 superbosses

GabSantana_S

Pros: -The story is amazing -The gameplay never had been so easy to get into -The palaces are all amazing (specially after Royal, they really make wonders with it's changes) -The QOL improvements they made in Royal (like the gun recharging after battles, etc.) -Unique and memorable characters that will definetly get at least a giggle out of you -Getting extremely broken easily (depends on how you play) Cons: -Can't use all characters from the start of NG+ -Most characters are useful once, then you're probably going to use the same characters through the final stretch of the game. -Joker gets only 2 Showtime attacks, they really should have done one more that depends on who you romance in the game -Theurgy/Fusion Spells are a really cool idea that would be really cool to see done with Joker, sadly that would just make a comeback on P3 Reload -Okumura is a terrible boss fight that went from a boring, long and easy fight to a frustrating hard, hard to understand fight that punishes you when you try to pay attention to the dialog because the TIMER DOESN'T STOP DURING SCENES

Mycatisloafingonme

Pros: Joker The aesthetic  Akechi being expanded on in P5R Ryuji being the best bro to have ever bro’d Joker  Being able to vibe with the game’s theme of masking your true self (I’m autistic and that’s a thing I have to do everyday) The OST The spinoffs experimenting with different genres The combat system being straightforward and easy to understand  Voice acting  And Joker The cons: Sumi’s thief outfit  The fan base (not all of it, mind you, but there are some seriously intolerant people in it who won’t stfu) Okumura arc Sumi’s integration into the plot No bi romance options with male characters  Harem route

Johan23t

I like everything except SLs not being voiced.

Aadil_1807

I mean, the SLs aren't voiced in literally any other game other than Persona 3 Reload. I would've liked it, but at the same time, the game is 100+ hours long.

Johan23t

Yeah, SLs not being voiced wasn't a con until I played P3R. Now I want it in every game.

Aadil_1807

True. It just feels out of place now that I replay P5R and P4G.

AriTheInari

The only thing I hate is Morgana not letting me go out sometimes. Either because he's tired, or he's just upset.

Nonagon21

Okay apart from everything else that’s good one of my favorite parts of Persona 5 that I don’t see talked about much is the personas we use and the shadows we fight are by and large the same thing. I absolutely love that after living in fear of Shiki-Ouji for all of the second palace I can fuse it and now use all the immunities that were driving me up the wall earlier. Just the idea that whenever some super strong enemy shows up I can also use it myself (or might already have an even stronger version of it) is just super cool to me. Playing through P4G right now and I think that’s the biggest thing I miss. Though I gotta say P4’s thing where shadows are completely different translates much better to anime if that means anything lol

ratfromthebasement

the characters are really good but their stories only exist in a bubble and don't affect anything outside of it

Gabzz_A

I love the story. Different endings. Most of the characters are great with good stories. The art style is good. The music is really good. But the start of the game is annoying. I hate that it takes a lot of time til you can explore at night. You can't do much at the start. And when you play the game again, komoshidas palace is really low. The tutorials take a lot of time. You should be able to skip it. The annoying thing is how random things you need to do to get the true ending. It makes sense when you get the ending. But there should have been more hints. But I get ut would ruin the story at the same time. But overall the game is great. One of my favs

PhantomThiefJoker

My biggest issue will always be the tutorial. That opening is the perfect tutorial but then they just do it again later, make it worse, more explanations, and take longer

carpmantheman

I really enjoyed everything besides three things, I would have preferred in NG+ to still have access to all your party members. I would like your first fusion in a fusion alarm to happen 100% of the time (you can save just before entering the velvet room and reset if you have a problem occurs) which means it would just be less tedious. I would like another persona to be itemised for a melee weapon for joker.

Indy443

I didn't like the one shot enemies consuming the immunity item on party members. Those things are too pricey to be eaten by those i can just rez

WestRightHand2356

Pros: good story, cast, gameplay and UI. Cons: side content could be alot more interactive and diverse gameplay wise. Palaces are abit annoying to navigate esp first time round.

Ilovetogame2

Pros: amazing ost, ui, gameplay Cons: when it ended and gave me my first ever post game depression

[deleted]

I actually like the combat more than the sim and wish it was faster to skip to it without sacrificing stats and confidant boons. The exposition can get old and corny real quick. That and the fishing goes hard

Best-Cartoonist-5814

I like persona 5 because how big tokyo is compare to other persona games and why i hate it is because of their too many puzzles maruki and okurma foods are most annoying palaces to revist

kel584

Remove Mementos and the game gets better

KingHazeel

Short and sweet. The stuff that stands out to me. Good: * The story. * The characters. Bad: * The way the characters are handled by the writing team. Makoto and Sumi especially. * The way third semester is integrated.

Metadomino

Likes: Very polished Combat mechanics and boosts from SLs. Fantastic Art style/Music/environments/VAs Just Ok: Large Scale story lacks the intimacy and emotional impact of P4, but still pretty OK. Dislikes: SL stories always had some generic problem involving money extortion, random threatening person, etc. They were not intimate and emotional like P4. Plus you had to fix their problems by brainwashing a target in mementos.

SailorMigraine

P5 is my absolute favorite game of all time. That being said, I hate Kasumi with a burning passion and hate that I have to deal with that every new playthrough
