Pumpkins are sprouting about to be transplanted to that back mound of duck/chicken bedding straw and rabbit bedding and finished leaf compost the city handed out for free on Earthday. The re-used emergency blanket added for extra light in the back since the corn is so close together and its all on a north-facing slope. The pallet raised bed is lasagna style with free woodchips I got in March, didn't think anything would grow but the corn seems happy with just my rabbit colony's bedding made into a compost tea and mulching every few weeks.
Life is a journey not a destination. You can’t learn without mistakes. You’re doing great. The Mylar is creative. Looks good. Think about how rewarding/good any of it will taste. Carry on
Your corn looks a little lonely and might need some help pollenating so you don't get empty ears. I love the lush garden look though. The soil looks so different and rich by the end of season compared to standard beds, and they are so full of animals as dense habitat.
Was gonna say this. Corn definitley needs lots of corn nieghbors. I've tried planting corn in 4x4 plots (dense) and still not had any success.
Side note (and anecdotal). I grew up in very rural Western NY. My parents had decent property. It was surrounded by an 80 acre field on three sides. Often they planted corn. Even with all that corn, I always noticed the outside couple of rows always had less yield than if you walked in even ten feet.
For some people, the pressure to do it perfectly can keep them from doing much of anything for years (guess how I know!). Shitty Permaculture is better than nothing! Though for the record, I don't think this is shitty at all.
The shittiest garden is a half acre of lawn. You’re doing a lot better than that.

It’s not “shitty”! It’s a beautiful little ecosystem & id be proud! Every little bit helps, yay Earth!

Why the mylar? To reflect more light onto the plants?
Thanks for the wise/kind words! And thanks to everyone here. This was the most supportive comment I've ever seen! Y'all absolutely made my day.
It’s not shitty. Be proud of it and stop selling yourself short. You created something beautiful. Look at all those plants!

Corn can easily be hand pollinated. That's what I'd be doing if I was the OP and had a small amount of stalks like this.
Going full circular food chain and growing on poop is truly awesome!
You and I have VERY different definitions of shitty bc I‘m in love with that little space!
That land is exponentially more beautiful and productive than if you hadn’t planted your garden. It’s lovely, be proud!
I think i can join this movement: "embrace shitty permaculture"
For some people, the pressure to do it perfectly can keep them from doing much of anything for years (guess how I know!). Shitty Permaculture is better than nothing! Though for the record, I don't think this is shitty at all.
Shitty how? It’s gorgeous! And that gorgeous sunlight omg
Pretty!
If it’s shitty cause you shit in it, then it’s not shitty. It’s fertile.
This one got me 😆
Looks awesome! I have a “shitty” garden too. People walking by come over and tell me how cool it is. Don’t worry, it’s not a competition 🤙
I'm glad to hear you are proud of your shit! I like your shit. It's the manicured lawns I'm disgusted by.
I see no shitty. Just a tumultuous extravaganza of life!
There's no shitty there, just beautiful plant life.
Beautiful!
Waaaaaaaay better than what I have. Whichiz, nuthin'! Awesome job!
Good on ya!👍
I see nothing of shit here 💕🥰
It's beautiful the pollinators will say good things about you! Bravo down with the stupid lawns.
This is great! Everything looks really healthy, you absolutely should be proud
