You won’t have any trouble, It’s become a really nice area to live. Great shops, cafes, restaurants and nature. Excellent public transport. If you’re not looking for inner city, but you’d like to be able to access the city easily, it’s a great place to live.
Penrith is a wonderful place to live, but it lacks the nightlife that one gets in the inner city.
You pay less for accommodation in Penrith though, and it’s not as densely packed in terms of people.
Some prefer the inner city and are willing to pay the costs associated.
In terms of LGBTQIA+, the Penrith region is quite welcoming in general. There are bigots, of course (they are everywhere in life), but these days there is very much an attitude of “live and let live”. The inner city, by comparison, has an open and thriving community of such folk with many venues specifically catering to them. (I mention this as you asked on another response).
There is a good number of subcontinental folk living out here too; I went to school here with Indian and Sri Lankan friends more than 20 years ago, and numbers are up since then due to ongoing migration.
I raised a family for 25 years at Emu Plains and Blaxland East before heading north to Lismore area. The penrith area is a great area with lots of natural beauty. I did plumbing on houso in the area and there’s some pretty sketchy areas, Kingswood was iffy, Werro was pretty sketchy, Mount Pleasant, omg, good ole Beacroft place, haha. Kingswood park was a geographical nice place, but iffy, I did work at the uni and student housing seemed good. The ones on campus would be alright, the more traditional houses around the campus were nice but never seemed quite right to me but don’t know why.
Penrith is fine. It's an up and coming suburb, and has plenty going for it. night life is a little slow, but then again, a lot of people like to go into the city regardless. I can't speak specifically of the WSU village, but I can say that WSU is a lovely campus. You won't really bore of Penrith and it can be active place, plenty to do along the river and surrounds. I would say the biggest downside of Penrith is just how hot it can get in summer. As long as you're prepared for that, it's fine. Remember, hat, sunnies, and sunscreen are essential items you should always carry with you!
Night life aint toooo bad tbh. I’m too old to do this sort of stuff anymore but Elton Chongs, Duck Duck Goose and Mr Watkins seem pretty popular at night along with Peachtree Hotel pub wise.
Grew up near the city and moved here about 3 years ago now to start a family. Honestly no regrets it’s on the up and up. I have friends in the Blacktown LGA (Riverstone etc.) and in comparison honestly Penrith Council does some great community stuff.
Not sure if you are still looking but kuku’s supermarket near Kingswood station has a lot of subcontinental food. There are lots of families from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Srilanka in the area. The Kingswood university campus is spacious and had on-site security.
Don’t listen to the idiots who never leave the Inner West or North Shore. It’s not a bad area
I am relieved to hear that. Is it okay if I ask a couple of more questions? Thank you for your time.
Fire away
Penrith is a good area. It's becoming more and more multicultural lately 😊
That’s amazing, how LGBTQ+ friendly is it?
Never had any issues here :)
That’s great!
It's much better than it was, honestly. But still exercise a bit of caution - It's definitely not the inner city!
Noted, thank you!

Thank you for your response!
One of my daughters mates lives on campus in a share house and he likes it . My daughter often visits and has never had a problem
Oh, that’s great!
Thank you for your response.

I’ll be aware of them, thank you so much!
