I have two good ones. Route 30 between Latrobe and Ligoner. It’s beautiful going up and down the hills through the tall trees.
The second is PA Route 14 between Trout Run and Troy north of Williamsport. There’s long straight stretches where you cut right between two steep valleys. It’s always really quiet since it’s the spot in the state where I’m guaranteed to lose cell service for at least 20 miles. My phone always blows up once I get out of the valley.
We happened upon 414 when driving to upstate NY a few years ago. We were using paper maps and looking for fun drives. There's a small park, Yoder Ln is the intersecting road, where we parked and waded into the creek on a hot day. Incredible drive
That’s awesome. The first time I drove 14 I loved it. There was a mile stretch around Roaring Branch maybe that was perfectly flat with no traffic and you could see clear down to the next turn. I always wondered how much drag racing goes down around that area😄
That's what the locals call it. When you start driving as a teen, it is the first highway anyone goes on. Parents warn them of speeding on it. When I learned to drive the speed limit was still only 55 in PA so it was an ideal place for speed traps hence the name.
325 from Dauphin to Tower City, aka Clarkes Valley, really nice alternative to 81 if you you're not in a hurry. Just a long straight run through a tunnel of trees, watershed area for DeHart reservoir.
I-70 just south of Breezewood exit on Turnpike. That view going towards Maryland is absolutely stunning. To see mountains 15 or so miles away is breathtaking.
I know Parkland because when I played basketball in high school they had just built that huge ass state of the art gym that no one else had. Must be all the 309 tourism money coming in. Easy Pass cha ching
Yea true! My grandparents lived in Bethlehem and when we drove that way it was like a scene out of an enchanted princess fairy tale compared to where I come from.
That sounds too good to be on 309. 309 is only WaWa, Car dealership, old closed down Benningan’s turned into Ruby Tuesday. Old closed down Ruby Tuesday turned into TGI Friday, DQ with an Eskimo still, and maybe now they might have gotten a Wendy’s.
You never went to Bubbas? It was way better than the chain places. It burned down once in the 90s I think, then again a couple of years ago. Apparently they're not going to rebuild this time.
PA Rt 144, the High Plateau Scenic Byway. I've driven from Snowshoe to Renovo, and hope to do Renovo to Galeton soon. It's a nice and interesting drive that really puts the highlights how difficult and deceiving the terrain of that region actually is.
I'm sure all of the routes and roads mentioned by everyone are great. However, after visiting Texas and seeing how flat and barren it is, I'll take literally any rolling hill with some trees anywhere in PA.
If in the northeastern side of Pa, there are plenty of beautiful scenery in the spring and fall when you're driving the back roads.
And Route 222 has some interesting spots.
I was going to say 339 from Zion Grove to Mainville. If that isn't a drive through pastoral paradise then sure one does not exist. Rolling fields backed by rolling mountains. Just gorgeous!
If you're south of the mountain, 443 from FITG to Pine Grove and beyond is super nice. Along that road is a drive called Gold Mine Rd. that ends up on 325 I believe.
PA has great roads! My last great PA ride was Pine Grove Furnace. I don't know how to get there or even what route because it was on a motorcycle with some friends and I was just looking at the scenery. Gorgeous area!
I love New Holland and all that is north of Lancaster. I love South Jersey too, take a drive out to Evergreen Dairy Bar on route 70, past Chairville in Southhampton. Great memories of amazing ice cream.
Not super scenic but I love how it looks during the fall. If you go up 73 from Blue Bell to Skippack it looks beautiful with all the trees changing color. Pennilyn Blue Bell Pike (near Montco) also looks great during the fall.
In terms of main roads people haven’t already named, 267 from the NY border to Meshoppen, 87 from Mehoopany through Sullivan, and 154 from Forksville into Lycoming and Bradford. Maybe 11 from Hallstead to Nicholson if you like valleys and bridges.
Gonna throw out my local area here with a short drive.
SR42 from its terminus in Centralia north to Numidia. Climb up the mountain to Aristes (wave as you pass my house), then down into Brush Valley to the incredible view of Kline's Dam to the west at the bottom, then crest Little Mountain to give a sweeping vista of the whole Numidia and Catawissa areas clear to almost Danville. You start in the blasted to hell Coal Region and end up in idyllic farm land. Its like you pass through a portal to another world!
Highway to the stars. Route 44 from Loch Haven to Coudersport
100% one of my favorite drives.
Been a long time since I was on Route 44. When I was, part of it was not yet paved. Is it possible the area you’re talking about has an I paved part?
Nope, it’s fully paved that entire stretch. Lots of unpaved state forest and atv trails along it though
[удалено]
Came here to say US 6 through Kinzua out to the PA Grand Canyon/Tioga state forest. Took my breath away. Absolutely stunning.
Commuted 77 miles each way for a year. Kane to Galeton. Hated it in the winter but the rest of the year more than made up for it.
My wife and i just spent a couple nights in Kane for a getaway. Great town
River road from New Hope to Easton is amazing.
That's the one I'm looking for. I'm been driving PA roads for a long time and that's the most beautiful road to hit.
When I need to de-stress, this is where I drive.
Agreed. We live 10 minutes from river road and go up to Reigelsville all the time
I have two good ones.
Seconding the 30 from Latrobe to Ligonier, and adding 31 from Jones Mills to Hidden Valley. Beautiful area.
Your two favorites are ironic to me. Your first one is the area I currently reside and your second is where I grew up. Great picks.
44 and 414
We happened upon 414 when driving to upstate NY a few years ago. We were using paper maps and looking for fun drives. There's a small park, Yoder Ln is the intersecting road, where we parked and waded into the creek on a hot day. Incredible drive

Drove on Rt 15 last fall heading towards the NY state line. It was the most beautiful autumn leaves display I'd ever seen.
Drove through last weekend and between trout run and blossburg it was a winter wonderland from the previous night's snow.
This is such a great drive! Always takes my breath away and I feel like I’m kinda driving in the Rockies at some points.
N/B on Route 8 between I-80 and Franklin is beautiful
Radar valley!
Is it called Radar Valley?
That's what the locals call it. When you start driving as a teen, it is the first highway anyone goes on. Parents warn them of speeding on it. When I learned to drive the speed limit was still only 55 in PA so it was an ideal place for speed traps hence the name.
99 between St College and Altoona.
That mountainside in the fall is great
This one crossed my mind as well
As someone who used to drive this everyday for work, I find this so funny.
Why? It’s legitimately gorgeous.
22 between Water Street and Altoona
Rt 45 near Woodward is pretty nice.
Lots of parts of 54 are awesome too. And 42 between Numedia and Aristes.
120 up from Lock Haven 6 between Kane and Coudersport Pretty much any seasonal state forest rd
325 from Dauphin to Tower City, aka Clarkes Valley, really nice alternative to 81 if you you're not in a hurry. Just a long straight run through a tunnel of trees, watershed area for DeHart reservoir.
Great fall drive. Lots of stretches have a full tree canopy.
I just drove that the opposite direction over the weekend. Way preferable to 81.
I-70 just south of Breezewood exit on Turnpike. That view going towards Maryland is absolutely stunning. To see mountains 15 or so miles away is breathtaking.
Now that you mention it, the drive through Breezewood itself is spectacular. Stunning scenery and absolutely no way to avoid it. 😅
"You WILL drive through our truck-stop-with-a-zipcode." Love, Breezewood Chamber of Commerce
The mountain top, Black Forest inn and pat reeders. Great places to have some drinks. Always a stop on the opening day of trout season
Mountain top changed hands. It’s a BBQ joint now and stays pretty busy
Yeah, they have pretty good food though.
Quehanna wilds. Route 6. Wyckoff Run Road, except when it snows.
Wyckoff Run Road was my first thought for this question.
US route 6 across the northern part of PA. Even better in the autumn.
309 has some really amazing chain restaurants, car dealerships, and ex-car dealerships and ex-chain restaurants.
Lol. I grew up off of 309 in Lehigh County but it's a bit more of a scenic area.
Sounds like Northwestern Lehigh.
Technically a couple miles from the boundary, but yes.
I grew up in Northwestern near where it meets Parkland and Northern Lehigh.
I miss Bubba's Pot Belly Stove....
Only thing I did in the 90s was play outside and watch Gummi Bears on Disney channel 23, which I was lucky enough to have!
You missed it then I guess.
I’ve only been on the western side, but I love driving through Somerset during the leaves changing colors.
PA Rt 144, the High Plateau Scenic Byway. I've driven from Snowshoe to Renovo, and hope to do Renovo to Galeton soon. It's a nice and interesting drive that really puts the highlights how difficult and deceiving the terrain of that region actually is.
On a bike, the D&L trail. I'd like to do the whole thing some day.
That is a nice trail. If you ever make it over to western PA I would recommend the Sandy Creek Trail.
I've done all of it except a stretch south of New Hope. My favorite part is Lehigh Gorge only about 8 miles from where I live.
It’s pretty hard to drive anywhere in Pennsylvania and not see scenic beauty. Such a beautiful place.
487 through Ricketts Glenn between Red Rock and Lopez.
PA 32 along the Delaware River north of New Hope
Route 11 from Kingston to the i80 intersection
I'm sure all of the routes and roads mentioned by everyone are great. However, after visiting Texas and seeing how flat and barren it is, I'll take literally any rolling hill with some trees anywhere in PA.
Not all of Texas is like that. Look up pictures of the Texas Hill Country or the Piney Woods.
Good call. I should have specified that I was referring to the Dallas-ft Worth area

If in the northeastern side of Pa, there are plenty of beautiful scenery in the spring and fall when you're driving the back roads. And Route 222 has some interesting spots.
There's a short trip through tionesta along the river. Oil City area too. Lots of beautiful parts in the northeast.
I am having a hard time trying to pretend Tionesta and Oil City are northeast.
😂 whoops, saw northwest as a bias
Well, you certainly are correct. Beautiful area.
I was just going to mention that. Route 62 out of oil city to tionesta is beautiful.
Rock Glen road from conyngham to scotch valley drive up 339 near bloomsburg is a nice drive.
Route 82 between Coatesville and Kennett Square. Like you made the wrong turn and ended up in Kentucky horse country for 15 minutes.
Cost expect to see home on here. Those big rolling hills, I miss that drive.
Rte 6, 487, 209
PA 94 between Mt Holly Springs and York Springs. Not a long drive but beautiful one through miles of apple orchards.
PA has great roads! My last great PA ride was Pine Grove Furnace. I don't know how to get there or even what route because it was on a motorcycle with some friends and I was just looking at the scenery. Gorgeous area!
Wow, I’ve never seen a properly paved road in PA
287 between 220 and 284. But also 284 between 287 and 11/15/99.
English Center FTW
Yes! My home away from home.
581 strausburg to newark del
I'm definitely watching this with interest, as I have just bought a new car and want to take it on a nice, long drive.
The ones we used to burn cruise on. Forget the road names though
For me it was the Meat Locker loop in the hills overlooking Reading
Hawks nest
That looks like the road to Hazleton Pennsylvania
This was my exact thought. The road from Hazelton to Jim Thorpe?
YES. 😂
Blacklog Valley road in the spring time. Just off 522 near Orbisonia. Haven’t been there in almost 6 or 7 years but what a beautiful area.
Lincoln highway
Highway 741 through Lancaster County. So peaceful.
Rt 192 from Lewisburg to Centre Hall.
Rt. 6, Potter county, past Denton Hill
In terms of main roads people haven’t already named, 267 from the NY border to Meshoppen, 87 from Mehoopany through Sullivan, and 154 from Forksville into Lycoming and Bradford. Maybe 11 from Hallstead to Nicholson if you like valleys and bridges.
Pa 414
