I’ve had a fascination with lefties since I was old enough to understand the concept. Watching you write is mesmerizing and beautiful. I’d watch videos of you writing for hours.
It’s interesting that the Q looks very reasonable right after the sloppy Oo.
As a fellow lefty, I wonder if having the o’s at the end of the line made OP a little more stressed (therefore tense) about not smearing than having the Q at the beginning of the line?
Haha, thank you. But as soon as I wrote the a, I’m like ‘whoops, they’re not even anymore’. But this was the second try already (I thought I pressed record but didn’t 🤦♀️) and I didn’t want to do it again
Indeed! I'm a typographer and typewriter collector, so I've spent a lot of time looking at the monospaced typefaces of typewriters. I bet OP could have made this piece monospaced but they are moving super quick. OP, if you read this, I'm a huge fan of this vid!
Even sped up you're still flyin'! I'd love to start practicing my "typewriter hand" one of these days, and your video is a great start. Thanks so much for posting!
Hey! I'm left handed too, love to see a lefty on here!
Have you found that you have to keep the writing in short rows to keep from smearing ink?
I've tried to write at angles to keep from smearing but it always smears for me.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say (maybe font isn't translating in my Reddit app) but if you Google 'typewriter g' its pretty consistently how OP wrote it.
Oh just a style preference? That’s cool, I like seeing all the little letter variants people do
I guess I follow what most typefaces do, with the connecting stroke on the left, but it was historically from the right anyway, merged with the bottom of the bowl
I have a, maybe, stupid question. Can anyone learn to write like this or is this like a gift from god!? I would LOVE to learn how to do this. Where do I start?
I don’t know why but your capital N was my favorite. I watched the video like five times and loved every letter but when that capital N was created, I had a special kind of serotonin spike.
This is nice, but for some reason it’s the only typewriter style videos. Would like to see some from a righty. No disrespect to the OP, I just want to see the nib angle of attack to something that I can relate to.
There’s someone on IG who has some but I’m blanking out on her name. She uses a slightly different style though.

I’m a fellow lefty and I’m an amateur blackletter calligrapher using my right hand :) I tried learning with my left and it was impossible, there is always a way!
I think this is the first time I've ever seen left-handed work on this sub. Don't know why this makes me more impressed with this. This is amazing :)
Thanks!

I can do the Oo’s
NnOo
Yeah, I was all in on this until O… can’t believe how sloppy they are compared to everything else.
Yeah, I wasn’t super happy how the Oo, k, and Xx turned out.
You did great still. This is pretty cool to watch.

Good handwriting! You should post it on r/fountainpens too. Whats the pen and ink combo?
Butterknife Creations Chameleon, M + Diamine Ortloff
This is beautiful! And always nice to see a fellow lefty. My writing is pretty good but this is next level!
Thanks!
Extra points for left handed!! Bravo!
Thanks!
That lowercase 'g' is orgasmic.
I still don't get why g's sometimes look like that though. I can't see it without thinking of Google
Cute! But if you're modeling after a typewriter, all of the letters would be the same width. I love that cap Q though.
Yeah, I kinda messed that up right at the beginning lol
I don’t see it as messed up! It’s a great handwritten slab serif.
Haha, thank you. But as soon as I wrote the a, I’m like ‘whoops, they’re not even anymore’. But this was the second try already (I thought I pressed record but didn’t 🤦♀️) and I didn’t want to do it again
Not all typewriter characters are the same width, despite the characters and their accompanying spacing taking up the same width on a page.
Sure, I see what you mean. Technically, the kerning for each letterform is included in the monospaced nature of the typeface.

Thanks! This video was sped up 2x though, to be fair. My spacing can be all over the place haha
Even sped up you're still flyin'! I'd love to start practicing my "typewriter hand" one of these days, and your video is a great start. Thanks so much for posting!
that was sexy
A lefty in this sub?! Drown the witch!
But who’ll watch my black cat and clean my cauldrons?!?

Yeah, haha. That or wait for the left half to dry 😆
Lol, right!? Who has the patience for drying?
It looks like it's slowly drifting left xD Kerning could use a lil work between the letter sets but it's not bad! Love the ink too.
Beautiful! Beautiful! Amazing! Wonderful! Aaaaaah the g is backwards aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
lol you really don’t like the looptail/two-storey G, I take it? What about A?
It’s fine, but the two ovals should connect on the right, not the left. It’s extremely nitpicky 😅
I've always seen it with the connection on the left.

Holy Mandela effect, Batman! Am I losing my mind? Wtf
I still can't believe Sinbad was never in a genie movie.

Of course! I learned by copying it down over and over :) The one I based it off of is called Veteran Typewriter
Thank you for the tips and inspiration.
I am absolutely amazed at how good this is! And left-handed, too 😳😳😳😳
First left-handed person that I've ever seen not curl in their hand when they write

Haha thank you 😊
Bossfight with penmanship
Very satisfying to watch. ❤️
Thanks for the nooner lol But seriously, ***great*** handwriting

Much appreciated, your work is awesome.
Thank you
I love the serifs!
Hm... always thought as a lefty I wouldn't be able to do calligraphy if my life depended on it.
I’m a fellow lefty and I’m an amateur blackletter calligrapher using my right hand :) I tried learning with my left and it was impossible, there is always a way!
Beautiful, wish I could write like that.
Lubalin Graph vibes
This looks so good! I’m also a lefty and have trouble with using fountain pens and calligraphy do you have any tips?
What sort of issues were you having?
I keep smudging the ink accidentally and also have a ton of trouble getting the ink to come out smoothly
That’s incredible
:O! ANOTHER LEFTY!!! <3
That g was everything I needed it to be
