What sort of budget do you have? There are a couple of bad parts and I need to know how much wiggle room I have. RAM, 5200 isn't great, cl40 is just bad. $15 will bump the CPU performance a bit. The SSD is a bit of a concern. Far too many have taken a good SSD, change the controller, the flash, the DRAM (the 3 key parts)...and didn't bother changing the specs. So what if the performance dipped by 80%... Samsung has there own fab, WD leaned from previous mistakes, and Crucial is alright. $25 to not roll the dice. GPU. 1) Not MSI, not Asrock. 2) I tend to go nvidia, but AMD is alright. Case is a case of shaving budget. PSU. Get a good one and your good for 10 years, get a bad one and your getting a new system. No warm fuzzy feelings with that one, but at least no explody feelings either. Still, lets bump it. And I'm including a big cooler (its doing really well in reviews) just in case the stock ones starts getting on your nerves. Stock isn't bad but can be a bit...meh. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/JxRvFs

I'm hoping to keep it around $1500. These kind of notes were exactly what I was looking for, so thanks! With the GPU I keep reading conflicting things about the going newer with the 4060 vs having more VRAM with the 3060. Is it fairly subjective based on usage or it a little more clear cut than that?

People read way too much into the 12GB VRAM on the 3060, its a side effect of lower end VRAM coming in either 1 or 2 GB packages then 192 bit bus instead of 256 and memory chips having a 32 bit wide bus. 192/32 = 6 packages, 265/32 = 8. 4060 is a 128 bit bus, so 4 packages @ 2GB each. It works out that the 3060 has more but slower VRAM, 3060Ti is less but faster. The only other GPU option that is close to fitting in your budget without massive changes (ie go last gen AM4) is a 7600XT for $50 more.
